  1. never heard of "mojang" friend .. but I'm sure you pray to him every night (or light incense, whatever) just like you should. So, about those Minecraft Mods .. er.. who gets paid when someone needs a copy of minecraft to mod? do they buy it off the modder? How many copies of mojang Minecraft have mojang sold (if thats what they do? ) just by sitting around on a beach drinking cool drinks and watching the modders convince folk to buy a billion copies of a game those buyers don't ever intend ever to play.. they just NEED it to play the mod ?? or is mojang (blessed be his name) into some other kind of business ? xx nice day

    Forum

Also what is this "beanz" thing - is it some kind of weapon? I have seen it before? Was there some kind of logo on the page header of this forum once.. ? Jello ? - is that spawning in NWA now? or is it helicrash stuff ?
  3. OK - let's "actively support" - lets all send in MORE MONEY.. another $30 to go on playing... ?? Look - The BOTTOM LINE - A games company has staff and electricity bills, and it has to have PCs, desks, & servers, and it has to pay window cleaners (and other stuff) printer paper, technicians, directors, artists .. .. ya know? You have to have MONEY COMING IN all the time JUST to keep going, NOT to make a profit, JUST to break even on your forever-daily wage bill and expenses. OK? So where is the DayZ SA money coming from - from it's sales? So here is a PRACTICAL (it works) BI model of "how to stay running as a company" __ You SELL a game AND you develop it until it is built enough for the MODERS to take over Then you have very little expense anymore, you don't have to develop it much past the Mod Release, so you can put most of your team on something else, the next game. BUT the moders will come out with MODS !! - and to play whatever THEY build, the punters will have to BUY THE GAME .. So your company keeps on selling the game, every time an interesting mode starts to trend your company sells more copies of the basic game. EVEN if NO ONE plays the basic game.. Anyone remember a minority game called ArmA ?? It was just about played out and MOST gamers had never heard much about it at all, and wouldn't have paid to play it even if they knew it existed - But then an INTERESTING MOD turned up and news went around - You just had to buy this obscure "ArmA" game to be able to install the MOD... so suddenly ArmA was a best seller !! - wow.. it went right UP the charts. Aint that a good way to Pay The Bills and keep your business going? AND in this "business model" it does NOT MATTER if you reach RELEASE or whatever you call RELEASE..because no one will even be playing "the base game" It just matters that it has enough STUFF in it to catch the interest of the MODDERS... then you can go on selling it for as long as interesting mods turn up .. the money comes in.. even if NO ONE plays the damn, "original" DayZ release EVER. They have to buy it to play any mod that is trending. They may NEVER play DayZ - I played ArmA for about 5 hours total - maybe less - I played DayZ the Mod for about 2000+ hours. just saying To run a company you have staff and expenses to pay ALL THE TIME - you have to break even - to do that you have to have money coming in. So what would YOU do with DayZ right now if it was your business? real question - any suggestions? ( wow hey a player gave me a HEART right here on the forum - I never had a HEART before.. that's so CUTE!!! - thanx dude = BEANZ for that Heart! )
  4. Seems a reasonable response to me. The BIG question that no one is addressing is this: 1) So you/me paid our $30 dollars 2) Does this give you/me the right to play DayZ FOREVER with every update, with a company spending money on it, with software engineers and coders driving in to work on it day after day ? 3) will you EVER have to pay any more or will you still be able to play DayZ in - 100 YEARS FROM NOW - just for that one down payment ? 4) Where will BI get their money from to support DayZ for the next 100 YEARS without any payment except the new-player once-only lifetime entry fee ? 5) will there ever be a DayZ II (that you pay to buy) ? 6) WHEN will it end, because it MUST end .. right ? just asking the obvious * * * xxP
  5. There was already a DayZ game going around, a Mod that attracted a lot of fairly smart people (mod players) - BI wanted to continue the momentum. DayZ Mod was falling apart at the seams (hacks etc) and was way too complex to try to fix, and it was a Mod (after all) more than an in-house product. BI didn't want to take the DayZ experience off the market for a couple of years - when they came back the competition would already be around with crud imitations Also they relied on the unusual quality of their players (who were NOT "average players" to help them through the SA launch - those were almost 100% the same players who were with the mod, those players moved straight from the Mod to the SA.. It seemed reasonable to bring that community along from the broken Mod to the new half made up-and-running SA and continue straight on from there. I guess BI didn't expect the Steam treatment, they definitely didn't expect the treatment they got from the SPs (we KNOW that) and didn't expect to becoime "just one game" on a list of a few hundred that new games players pick over on a one-a-week basis, slag off, collect, throw away, diss.. And they did NOT do the "big game big publicity" hype that is now expected in the game market. (You spend 30-50% of your 'development budget' on advertising in this mass market, or you get no mass buyers) They did not pull new players into this new "anti-game" experience that DELIBERATELY should NOT be like the 500 others your statistical average players might buy around the world this week. So it is obvious why they wanted to go straight from the unfixable Mod to the early access SA without a break - they REALLY didn't have a choice - and its obvious what went wrong with the process. What is funny is how people take these words, "alpha", "beta", "pay to play", "DLC", and "full release", "early access", "first day DLC", "upgrade" "add-ons" "payable" , GamexI, GamexIII, GamexVII "buy Gamex II New World DLC".. etc.. Players take these words as normal steps through a game as though the "word" is MORE important than the game content and the cost and the content turnover and what action it it is supposed to describe and support and free updates. - (those words mainly describe how much you pay and how fast you pay it) BUT - There WILL NOT be a big change when SA is "released" as a full game, and BI WILL go on developing it free of charge after release. Look at their track record. This is how they have always worked. They are a SMALL company. & They are honest. & They are not good at sales communication. And of course MEANWHILE the big companies that push mega-publicity and milk their "big" games for all they are worth, just throw away those games after only a couple of years (max) and come out with "Game II & DLCs" . Those main league companies don't WANT you to play for more than a year or so without BUYING the next version and buying the upgrades and then BUYING the next version again, every 8 months you pay for something. Would everyone be happy if we called <SA Final Release> tomorrow, then dropped DayZ and released a game called <DayZ II Early Access> by next year. With DLCs every couple of months ? - With the right publicity that would make BI double the cash, a steady cash flow, SELL it and milk the whole new generation of "normal" mass market kid players. And DONT ever try to be original, it's expensive. Compete with the stuff that is already there and make it look flash. Easy pay easy play. Next year play some more pay some more. (no insult to "normal players" - whoever is the majority always has to be the norm, right? - that's science for ya) xxP
  6. Very enlightening - I'm totally impressed .. I don't know what you're on about but I'm sure its cool. .. er.. and have a nice day ! =SMILEY= So let me answer That with This : Britain FINALLY finished paying back the loan from the USA they borrowed to help the totally broke Empire go on fighting WWII - guess when - in 2002 !! At LAST. A nice investment for the USA. ( .. and well may you ask what that has to do with anything. Some Brits will still say they won the war). Keep posting the super-cosmic - enigmatic - comments, man, and the top o' the morning to ya. "All's fair", right?. This comment is not intended to make sense, it's an answer to yours.
  7. Sega AM2 began work on a role-playing game for the Sega Saturn set in the Virtua Fighter world. In 1997, development moved to the Dreamcast and the Virtua Fighter connection was dropped. Shenmue became the most expensive video game at that time ever developed, with an estimated production and marketing cost near $70 million USD, though the development cost also covered some parallel work on Shenmue II (2001). Shenmue was published by Sega for the Dreamcaster in 1999. .. and 18 years (= EIGHTEEN YEARS =) later ... it's "glorious". They took their time .. or what? How much has the mega-corporation spent on Shenmue since 1999 ... in the last <EIGHTEEN> years ?
  8. Don't forget that a lot of the zombies are ex marines and special intervention forces who caught the disease - which is why there are so many guns and ammo littered around - the plague got them but their trained deadly reflexes are the last thing to rot away.. some of them might go on attacking you after you blow out their "thinking" brains before they even fall over. Maybe aim for the base of the neck and brain stem to sever the nervous system instead shooting or hitting the front of the forehead? Or just WORRY about how dangerous and uncertain zomb encounters can be.. you know they can one-hit kill ya stone dead? Take CARE around those poor suffering critters they can sometimes be VERY DANGEROUS in UNEXPECTED strange ways. One day you might be surprised by one that remembers how to open doors, or meet one wandering around with a grenade or a butcher's knife.

  12. I paid my $30 just as payback for all the free fun I had on DayZ the Mod, that was already a fair donation - for me - way back then. I'd do the same for anyone or any team who gave me a thousand hours or so of fun for free, thanks to THEIR sweat and work. Since then I've played another 1500+ hours of DayZ the SA... And NOTHING, these days, just NOTHING, is that cheap EVER. So if DayZ floats face down, sinks completely or comes up trumps and rises shining with the pure white divine light of the eternal endless game .. makes no difference to ME in value. Where else on THIS planet would I get 2000 or 3000 HOURS of anything at all for $30 ?? It's paid for itself a long time ago, anything from now on in is totally free and extra plus. I wish it well whatever happens. Hope it does good, Hey, for that one time payment of $30 all that time ago, maybe my great-grandson will still be playing it. Whichever way it goes I already got my value in full. xxp
  13. Put up a tent in a forest then check with binocs or a scope how far away you can see it

    Heavy rain.

Ernest Hemingway said << Don't strain and you won't get piles >> . That SHOULD be taken both ways in a "survival" scenario. And like the mountaineers say << If you are warm, in shelter, with dry socks, well fed and you just had a good shit - you aren't on a mountain >>. So three things to the GAMEPLAY OF RAIN are: - 1 ) It seems like the rain has to be really heavy now to refill your canteeen.. heavier than just "you are damp" - am I right? - 2 ) And exactly when your head cover gets damp; all the stuff in your pockets, your ammo, your pants, jacket and your boots ALL get damp, then WET, at exactly that same moment. That's kind of odd and unnatural if you ever spent any time out in rain or woods. - 3 ) VERY Important = NEVER underestimate the power of rain as a TACTICAL TOOL. You can use it to your advantage in plenty of ways - EVEN (at the lowest game level) if it just means waiting until the loot-tent kids get fed up and log off. If they log because of rain they probably won't be back on this server for a while. If they 'play it through' and take shelter or build a fire (or even party around the campfire) you have them dead to rights. If they shelter in a tent, a house or a vehicle you have them. In the woods their overwatch (even if they have one) will be under a tree and not concentrating. If they are cold and wet, you know they will be "shaking" in a very short time unless they worry about that right now - and they will pay much less attention to their environment. Eg - stay under dry cover and shoot the first guy who crouches to light the campfire. If you see firelight, when you approach they will be stripping off gear and helmets, packs on the ground. And because of the timing on public hive ATM a lot of the action takes place after dark. You can see a fire a good way off, further than smoke in daylight. Everyone with a loot tent or a camp or barrels needs fire now regularly unless they hop all the time (and that's easy to deal with too). Few are organized enough to cook and dry safely far from their stash. And their locations are in the obvious places, not too far from good loot points, but not too near. Under cover close to a path but somewhere easy to remember. If they use cars for greater mobility you can hear them and follow on foot - by the third time you hear the car you know more or less where they are holed up. And THEN rain is your best friend. - Also .. yep, rain makes your pumpkins grow, you just sit under a tree and watch.. xxP
  16. You mean merge then debate it or debate about merging it ? - As its about modding shouldn't everyone have the right to start their own different version of the thread and put in comments they like and dump comments they don't like and leave the original thread with just some vanilla thread comments on it, called the "old school vanilla thread. Then we could have 20 or 50 threads threads on the same thing and everyone could argue about how different each thread was and how cr@p most of them were except the one we were on. And put some of the same comments in different threads and different comments in the same thread, and see which one got popular and which one just faded away only had a few fans, and which one was full of loonies and which one was boring. ?? That's what DayZ is for isn't it, modders ? (hmm?)

    How To Win Playerbase Back

~ did someone really say in the DayZ context ..."the unwashed masses of griefing wankers" ... he he, sounds like a bunch of biscuit crumbling OLD gone-generation geriatric folk having a toothless squabble One day there will be a million kid noobs playing this game dewy-eyed and breathless or there won't xx

Lens Flare 3rd person - on or off

In both 1st & 3d you are "looking" at the rendering through exactly what programmers call "the camera" - so there is zero technical reason that it should exist in one view and not in the other. 1st person view is just 3d person view from a location corresponding to the front of your avatar's head position. It is the same camera. Today lens flare is every bit as popular in games as it is in image and video editing because it heightens the <perceived realism> for players - BECAUSE they are habituated to equating their sense of "realism" to digitally processed video TV and film for excitement & visual relaxation - They are conditioned to entertainment where lens flare is added de facto ( automatically, even to football matches and live reports etc). So DayZ in 3pp without lens flare effect would <temporarily> seem to look "less real" and less "finished" than most other games. Players would tend to the subjective opinion that it seemed "drab" and less realistic. BUT nl is totally correct. Lens flare is a "film effect" and unnatural in the game. It is not only a fake effect, it is a added 'fake' of a fake effect, just one that people unconsciously expect. It makes Dayz more like 'Mission Impossible' and 'Star Trek', right? Those things use lens flare ALL the time. Instead of using digital tech to totally defeat lens flare it was used to exaggerate it (especially when there wasn't any) to prove that the viewer was watching a big budget FILM experience through an expensive camera. And who doesn't do that now (its so cheap!) ? The BBC and CNN both love it. It's has become what the viewers expect for their money. For standard player camera it should definitely be taken away. But plenty of players will think the game graphics are "worse" even without ever noticing why. - It should be deliberately and usefully (realistically) limited and added only to sunglasses, binocs and scopes. xxp

    Noobs Hate Rain

On every public hive server it starts raining less than 5 mins after I log on. So I assumed it rained on all servers at the same time across the public hive. I'm telling you this so you know who's fault it is. OK? It rains when I'm online. Now you know. On the other hand, if you spot movement or you are overlooking other players, rain is a perfect time gain the advantage. They are in their tent, or even sitting in their car (like real teenagers on Saturday night) or standing under a tree. This is a good time to move. You get soaked but you can dry off when they are dead. Or wait until they build a fire to get dry, then pick them off while their gear is scattered around. Or get them at gunpoint while they are in their underwear. The point is - Rain changes player behavior. Use it. And I guess you know you can fill your canteen by holding it out in a rainstorm? Maybe many players have not got round to noticing this (I don't see it mentioned much these days?) - . It means you can spend a lot longer moving through isolated areas without either catching cholera from unboiled stream water, or getting a player or a zombie on your back at a village pump. Rain is totally tactical. Use it for survival or use it as a weapon.
  21. pilgrim*

    think about it.

Do a lot of people play the mods of the Mod? Official Epoch looks to be the top with a total of 45 players on 90 servers (last time I looked) Spooling through their blogs they seem to be ATM still mainly technical snafu problems and glitches and complaints ?

Why don't we spawn along the southern coast?

That's TRUE - You really do fail to see the point of having a third of the map be nothing but forest and hills. The DayZ map: Real European Forest is a TOTAL waste of time. What good is it to anybody? we need more roads plus an extra few thousand abandoned rusted cars spread over the place. we need more tower blocks everywhere on the roads (for the bears to live in) what's the point of forest - for base building, hunting, hiding and warfare? Who wants that stuff?
  23. pilgrim*

Why don't we spawn along the southern coast?

That should be "travelling through a forest" for an hour Now the whole norhtern qua
  24. pilgrim*

Why don't we spawn along the southern coast?

Yep - pup tents (were already in the DayZ Mod = way back) were great.. much smaller, a lot easier easier to to hide.. enough room to keep interesting stuff. And then in the game there were Stashes too, a shallow hole with branches and leaves spread over it, flat with the forest floor - hard to see (as hard to see as anything can be in dayZ) .. you could keep maybe a rifle and 3 or 4 small objects in there. Stashes were smaller than a barrel but flat on the ground, easy to make, and ground colored.. hard to spot them under tree branches or from any distance in a wood.. .. good place to keep your spare knife and an emergency food stash. You old survivor folks remember those back in the DayZ Mod? Before stone knives could be picked up anywhere and you needed a damned real object to open a can (ever opened a can with a sledgehammer?, ever had a fistfight over who gets the knife? .. ever starved with food you couldn't open in your pack? Sure you did, right, damn! difficult to starve now ain't it? Life is so Easy in DayZ these days) lol Little Pup Tents and Stashes are very useful and good gameplay.. For some reason SA switched to bright-colored barrels that don't like to get too close under trees or in hiding at all, they like to stay out away from roots and branches - And for SOME REASON you cant even cut three or 4 pine branches to cover them, you cant wrap them in netting, you cant camo paint them, you cant bury them.. I don't know why you cant do any of these things with barrels.. they are all actions based on " barrel + existing crafting actions ". For a stash IRL, all you need is a plastic bag; a waterproof bag, a box, even a plastic raincoat, and a place to put it where you can drag some leaves or dirt over it = a stash. For another SIMPLE type of stash all you need is PERSISTENCE for backpacks while they have gear in them - so you can leave them under a tree and they are there next time you log in. but yes = pup tents - camo pup tents = yes.
