Say - lets just change the name of the current iteration to < Beta 1.0 > - then everyone can STFU

A room 3m x 5m has a surface area of 15 square meters - a landing ground 1km x 1km has a surface area of 1 square kilometer - Also an enclosure of 100m x 100m = 1000 square meters of surface area, and a strip 50m by 200m has a surface area of 1000 square meters. A square of 1 km per side encloses 1 square kilometer and also contains 1000000 square meters of surface area. So guys, what's the problem? A square with sides of 700 m x 700m contains roughly half a square kilometer of ground, right? - heh

good summary - how long have you been a game developer? Players and builders often have a VERY different take on even "minor" gameplay mechanics. or, put it another way: 1) What is your ideal game? - name just one single game ( thanx ). 2) Why do you play it, what SPECIFICALLY are it's main points of interest for you (.. take your time with this one! ) 3) How many hours playing time do you have with that game? xxp

The zeitgeist of DayZ was not the zeitgeist of gameplayers - they are a pretty conservative bunch. This is why DayZ has occasionally been called an "anti-game". But statistically the average gameplayer is the majority and the majority are the players who play the statistically most-played game, and the most played is named "best". So the majority gameplayers who stumble across DayZ want to push DayZ out of it's zeitgeist into average gameplayer normality. This is where it will make most money and be most boring. I like to think DayZ attracted - and will attract? - non-standard non-normal players. There are already plenty of games to meet standard expectations.

In the REAL world, there is no base or construction of any kind that can "stop" the entry of anyone - if they have access to the same or similar tech equipment as the builders - except if that location is under real-time manned surveillance when the outsiders try to enter. This is just a rock bottom real-world security fact. So are we looking for fantasy indestructible bases with a magic doorkey that cannot be take off the dead body of a player ?

You ever read the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyam ? .. Alike for those who for TODAY prepare, And those that after a TOMORROW stare, A Muezzin from the Tower of Darkness cries "Fools! your Reward is neither Here nor There." For in and out, above, about, below, 'Tis nothing but a Magic Shadow-show, Play'd in a Box whose Candle is the Sun, Round which we Phantom Figures come and go. xxp -
Get under a tree - not too close and not too far away, about a step away from the trunk ; and make a simple fire with sticks ("search for sticks"), NOT logs or stones etc - make firestarter - start fire - DROP ALL your gear & clothes on the ground - every bit, just DROP it - until you are naked. Keep picking up sticks and feeding the fire (crouch close to fire) you begin to warm up until you are DRY. Just keep turning and search for sticks without moving from place, turn and feed them on the fire - The trick is = As soon as YOU are dry all your gear on the ground is DRY TOO, you can put it back on. (but hey - don't do this anywhere you're likely to meet anyone)
-
Raincoat - but also plastic sheet, or groundsheet + any kind of headcover should keep you functionally dry - BUT these should go OVER the top of whatever you are already wearing, you should not have to EXCHANGE them for your jacket - This is realistic, everyone has seen photos of troops wearing groundsheets over their heads or wrapped around their bodies, etc. right?? In rain or snow, no one takes off any top clothes to put on a waterproof or raincoat or poncho. (all these things are standard army issue, every military in the world has them) Also BLANKETS can be used for many things, as well as keeping you warm, for shelter, ponchos (again), making backpacks, but there are NO blankets in the whole country !! All those houses, but zero blankets = this is one very STRANGE European country. NO blankets? Already a while ago it was mooted that boots and shoes should wear out progressively (-slowly-) as you walked - but that never showed up in the game. xxp

OK - you mean simulated pvp like chess - where there are only a dozen fixed moves that you can learn in less than half an hour because they are so totally simplistic ? Definitely not worth doing. No smart person would ever play such a clunky simplistic game. -

<< This is why I started playing with my friends. We bought the game to shoot zombies and have fun torturing other people. Pretending to be axe murderers and shit. Killing zombie is fun. Torture and robbery is fun. KoS in DayZ SA is not fun... That is why god made Battle Royale >> - quote scriptfactory 2017 -

Facepunch Studios has 20 full-time employees working directly only on Rust at last count - not including planning, direction, PR, management, or other staff part-timing other projects plus staff full time on other projects(.. just saying). ... Also RUST is really not my choice of game, not even slightly. It is a thoughtless good time game for shouty kids - like those jungle gyms you leave your children in at the McDo -

pr and brand and advertising needs PUSHING.. we all know how much total <cr@p> makes millions because the advertising is over 30+ percent of the total budget - That's how it works (right Walt?) But props and gratz to those fantastic dedicated BI technicians who endlessly change hot valves on the AI -
If you can't ping or trace route - this is def NOT DayZ fault - look at your windows firewall try traceroute to one of the DayZ servers you can reach - compare the firewall entries remember UDP !! Try tracerout to servers one digit out from a DayZ IP in the last two (then three) of the 4 groups, just at random. Also traceroute to other non-DayZ online games in AU (look at the GSP gamer sites for addresses & ports) * - also you should be able to open any UDP or TCP ports you want to in your ISP box, but they still then have to go through windows firewall. Make you sure you haven't blocked off any top level domains in your IP filter ( by mistake or because of incoming porn or other crap ). 'Ensure' you aren't running hackware that has deliberately stopped you linking to something relevant. If you don't use an antivirus, get SPYBOT & RUN a full check.. you are maybe being mal-directed to some dump in Rangoon that doesn't exist anymore And, hell, try changing your DNS servers <there are plenty free public - Search "Public DNS Servers list" to find a few for Australia, rotate them in your DNS list XXP

I'm ignorant & blissful - wow! whazhappnin ?? Did anyone turn off the loot-dupe glitch on the un-official servers yet ? Most I go on have a couple or three of camps of 10+ tents full of the same high-tech gear repeated, plus maybe half a a dozen scruffy redneck survivors like me scattered across the map eating apples and deer solo and gettin nekked at the campfire in rainstorms.. [p.s. - while i'm here - can we please use a STONE to sharpen and hone a spade or an entrenching tool so we can cut folks HEADS off with it.. ya know.. like in real life..] love ya all xx P And a WHOLE cold country without sheets pillows, bedcovers & NOT ONE SINGLE BLANKET effing anywhere AT ALL is just totally weird.. = really =
-
You EVER lived in a whole country that has NO BLANKETS ( = zero bedcovers = ) on any of the beds in ANY of the houses anywhere AT ALL ? Not One. ( This may be part of your answer.. ? ). DayZ is not =entirely= realistic. Don't think of it as "my second life" in wilderness survival. p.s. - BUT can we have THE EMPTY CAN back please, to keep to boil water. I actually do this when I'm off alone in the hills. it's a totally common and OBVIOUS and ordinary survival technique, tramps and the SAS and survivalists and hoboes have been doing it IRL since time began. WHY throw an empty can away when it's SO useful? The way things are going, survival in DayZ will mean hitching a trailer to your camper-van and unfolding it into a 3 room tent with lounge chairs, electric light, & a refrigerator when you reach your hunting/holiday site. - Instead of rags, you'll have a med kit in the car.

Do not pass "Go".. Move straight to Zen, dude

well at thank Sweet Jeeez its not Disney Studios doing this stuff

In fact the programmers are working on the AI that goes under the name "Bohemia", among other names - I saw a solid reactive holographic projection of Bohemia walking around downtown Birmingham, UK last week (the Bull Ring 02 dec 23:59h ) but it may manifest in more than one place at once? I was not in Birmingham at that time. We had a conversation about what happens when a digital clock reads 00:00 . It was interesting but strange, as it was during a previous similar manifestation We also spoke about FORTH. The AI wears MIB shades even at night. xxpilgrim
-
ALL these arguments - every one of them - have been had before. = you can look them all up xxp
-
I'd add in keeping an empty can so we can boil water like we used to. It is easy and realistic. Apart from that everything is roses.

What game is not "take it or leave it"? - ain't that the truth?. - I know folk who are crazy about games I wouldn't touch if i was stuck in a cell for a year with nothing else to do; I'd rather look at a wall for 10 hours a day . Other folk think those same games are great. I have a friend who plays Patience (!!!) on her PC for HOURS to relax when she gets back from work. Many games - like eg the Assassins Creed series (just for instance) & a whole heap of multiplayer games - start off really interesting until you suss the mechanics of the game, then suddenly you notice you don't ever play anymore.. there's no point. You play it when it's exciting and new - then you play for laughs - then you move on. The only "problem" with DayZ is that the "game interest" is spread wide between 1PS military gear freaks at one end (who want action now), and lone survivalists at the other (who want to go fishing and save their 7 clean cartridges). A game that pleases team fortress players and also pleases folk who will walk an hour through forest or looking for deer that they will hunt, cut up, build a fire, cook, and then craft from the guts and bones etc.. pleasing such a wide wide range of diffent folk is not easy. So almost every player finds some parts of the game that do not really interest them right now. There must be players who have never ever farmed or made a bow or used leather, and other players who have never raided a military base or rebuilt a car.. This is a wide range of stuff - so complaining that what YOU like is not the MAIN aim of the game is pointless.. Whatever your personal style or preference, you will find it in the game if you go looking for it - but it is not there on a plate for you as soon as you log on. And perhaps that's a big part of what people don't like.. ?? I'm NOT saying it's perfect (!! duh ).. Im saying there is very much SPACE in this game that lets you play pretty much the sort of game that YOU want, if you LOOK for it .. That is a rare thing. xxp

Good point !! Shouldn't there be an <EAT BEFORE> date stamped on the bottom of every can? ... And a sodium glutamate warning? And a "contains-animal-by-products" statement? & perhaps some Crunchin Crisps Cereal packets that are definitely suffering from damp and looking a bit moldy inside ? .. not crunchy at all, just kind of .. green? Like - << Hey! Look, I found a whole can of peaches under the furniture in a derelict apartment and it's only TWO years past it's sell-by date! Now we can Party! >>
