Every 3 mo over last 5 years I try Dayz Again...

A PC is a fully programmable computer.. No one in their right mind would use a machine where you (..er..) "cant" choose your own platform, and you are (.. cough ..) "forbidden" root/admin access to the OS. I class that as "NO FUN" & "BIG BROTHER" & "NON-DEMOCRATIC EXPLOITATION" etc, etc, blah blah woof woof (you know the score). However this is ONLY my personal opinion. And I'm writing this so who the hell else's would it be? I am ABSOLUTELY sure some xbox users ARE in their right minds. Purely statistically, this is inevitable. I assume a standard Gaussian normal distribution among xbox users where the y axis tends towards "in their right minds" as it tends away from the thundering roar towards infinity and as point probability tends towards zero. Meaning there MUST be some in there but from the norm they are pretty FAR AWAY xxp -
Check your other keybindings, especially the ones you THINK you already know how they act - sometimes it is REALLY not obvious what they do. - I set one single keypress to "stand up from prone and run forward" (sometimes useful ? ) - but other key settings were stopping it - It took a while to understand which keys were preventing it from working as I wanted. - The key descriptions are "misleading" in some cases, until you are used to their real action. I did some tests and I found what was blocking the combo. Now it works. For instance (dumb example) if you want to look back over your shoulder when running you need "look up left", not "look left" ..etc.. Seems strange to me but that's how it works. Check other keybind pages as well as the movement page. xxp

You don't like niche markets? You have something against small companies? You love in the world of Big Player Short Lifetime Max Profit Globalism? You have shares in Sony? You always buy your clothes off the peg mass produced in Pakistan? - No "harm" in any of those things, we all do SOME of that. But it pays to be thoughtful, IMO, and be thoughtful even BEFORE you buy - crazy idea hu? - ask around, get opinions you respect BEFORE you pay for a game? - you started way back in ArmA (you say) and already all their other games were "meh" at best.. but then you went ahead and paid for DayZ.. was that YOUR choice ? ) .. Perhaps you have a short attention span? And would you REALLY be pleased if DayZ was a pay to play, a DLC, or a Doomlike built fast for quick bucks on any bought-in engine? (quick turnover for short attention span buyers). Do you NEVER go to a specialist because they specialize in ONE thing? Or does all your stuff HAVE to be Wallmart? as you say: "the sooner we can move on and never buy anything again from them" - 1= I don't understand what's stopping you moving on? You play a game you DONT LIKE ! (why? - are you CRAZY? In your free time, TRY playing a game YOU LIKE, ok? I think that would be more fun for you.) 2 = I notice there are still a lot of fans and clubs who play ArmA ... I know one or two, they are total cult fans after ALL this TIME .. Are they ignorant, or fools, or being ripped off? - Or perhaps they hate playing but their mother won't let them move on? Or perhaps they know what they are doing? (is it a mystery or is it about attention span?) 3= Do you think Sony is NOT making you PAY for their endless big buck next products their engines their games their cheap budget throwaways their advertising their built in obsolescence their mega PROFIT ? - Realize it and accept it and move on and never buy anything from them again. [see you in the game, dude] xxp -
What is this thing 'xbox' of which you speak ?

DayZ is actually a great game.. you paid for it (once) .. you get free updates, stuff changes, different parameters, new toys (nothing extra to pay) for years, maybe decades .. It's a fine game and certain kinds of people get their kicks in this game .. it's not a MASS game - it is not designed to sell millions in 2 years, then get dumped and DayZ II will come out and sell millions, and then DayZ 3, etc.. no DLCs, no mass advertising, no built in obsolescence, it can be peaceful (go fishing) or dangerous, or REALLY dangerous ... or shocking or deadly.. .. It just trucks along and the people who like it play it a lot..There are some servers with a queue of FPSs panting to get in, there are some with lone hunters who like being in an empty land and wear deerskin, there are severs you have to be careful, and cult severs and (some definitely unfair servers) and open-but-clan clan servers.. and strange servers, and people to meet, or eat, or eat with, and the people in those DayZ places definitely play a lot.. they spent TIME in there.. So who CARES what number is written in the top corner of your screen when you log in - you only see it for 5 seconds... WHY are some people waiting for the day when DayZ STOPS changing, reaches an end, nothing new added, no more debate? Why do people want to know this is version 10.000 ? After this point Nothing New, No, Stop, End. Finish. In THIS game that is NOT the place you START playing. Hey - maybe this game will still be developing and changing in 10 years? - Why is that bad? The only answer to "why is that bad?" - is "because that's not like other games". So, if DayZ is not on the Sony Ideal Curve of the Mega Buck Mass Development chart ? ... who gives a stinking mongoose baked flat in the desert noon sun on life's lonely highway if DayZ ain't following the same railroad as other games? xxp

It would would be nice to be able to get in or out of windows ? I know it will never happen but would be .. nice.

.. the disaster happened a few days or maybe weeks ago: (this is not "canon" you can tell by looking) In game there used to be piles of corpses from time to time - [they took them out (like the flies around bodies) to not offend]. Car's aren't rusted, the chrome is shiny and the boots and doors work. Buildings are intact. Roads are not cracked - there is no grass or trees growing through road surfaces or pavements, or blocking doorways or back yards, even dirt roads are still 100% clear, no trees have fallen across them, no brambles or undergrowth pushing through. Army tents have not rotted at all. No blown dirt or leaves. Stairs and doors, and window frames in wooden building are solid and not hanging loose, glass not missing , floors are not dangerous or broken, roofs do not leak. No wallpaper or plaster or paint has not peeled or fallen. Nothing has decayed or collapsed, nothing is hanging loose. Ladders and platforms are solid, even wooden ladders on hunting stands are not slightly rotten, not a rung gives way. All new. The gardens don't show ONE summer's overgrowth. Grass is short, the fields don't need harvesting, All the well pumps work, well water is clean - The entire infrastructure has not even STARTED collapsing. Obviously this disaster happened at the LATEST days or a month ago. Look at photos of Chernobyl to see what a town looks like YEARS after abandonment (there are plenty on the web) = nothing like DayZ at all. Changes of the DayZ map have been discussed in detail and argued over, here on this Blog, with Dev involvement - things like cellars, house placement, the dilapidated/tended/abandoned look of the environment, why the forests are so thin you can drive a car through them, all the new towns that sprang up in the "wild" north, if maps should be joined edgeways between servers, if roads should be overgrown, different locations, what the modders want .. all that stuff is right here in the Blog if you check. There are SEVERAL threads about this stuff. xxP

direction of barrel is more significant then perspective of player .... stands to reason Lets run through the argument again ... it's the only way to be sure xxP

Are there any reliable statistics to show how long on average any online game player sticks with the same game before changing to a new game? I know the big games companies spend big money to encourage turnover, boost their revenue, so they have the exact gen. but don't release it, for obvious reasons. AND they know what to do with it, AND they put a solid 8-10% of their projected revenue into advertising in the right places. Any public info, or non-profit-making surveys? And so? - How many thousand hours on average before ANY game starts to feel like you could try something else? AND how do you encourage new players to join? - Well - the same way you got folk to watch "Han Solo" I guess.. maybe not a good example, but .. heh.. you plug a lot of project money into publicity. The report Online Game Market Forecasts estimated worldwide revenue from online games to reach $35 billion by 2017. Should be about $50 billion this year. .. hmmm ... I guess there ARE people who play Flight Simulator ALL their lives? .. that means they COULD have been playing Fight Simulator for .. er .. 39 years? Is BI looking to keep the same players forever, or focusing to bring in new players? I can' tell by looking at their marketing strategy. [just saying this with no plus/minus attitude, because I used to work in PR. I did some things with two modest-sized games companies, before the giant companies ate up what the giants were interested in.] xxp

Trucking a 25kg (55lb) Bergen & all you PLCE & your weapon (& a fire axe??) - be CAREFUL about "hopping" over fences or going fast (or even slow) down steep slopes, ya know? IRL that can snap or fracture one or both bones in your lower leg above your ankle, boot or not. Seen it happen. (same as ice-hockey injury caused by stress or collision, right?) Not really nice. - Maybe injury and stamina should be linked?

why are server prices higher than other games
pilgrim* replied to robbyj's topic in General Discussion
60 player private hive? .. dude! - share the price by 60 [2.33 dollars a month per private player] I think "resource intensive" is the key lego-block you have missing from the Weltanschauung -
no insult intended - some folk like to hangout in crowded places with streets and big buildings etc.. I'm a backwoods solo type myself.. usually if anyone turns up in mil kit I see them before they see me.. so then I'll probably throw their stuf in a bush and - ya know - eat them

why are server prices higher than other games
pilgrim* replied to robbyj's topic in General Discussion
OK dude - a physical server is a piece of equipment - its a computer. It has live memory and it has storage. NOW - each of those single hardware computers will run a CERTAIN NUMBER of game "instances" on the one real-world server. A game "instance" is one complete example of the game, players have access to it, the person who pays for it has special access to it. So DayZ players tend to say "my server" or "I hire a server" or "I play on a server" - when they mean a LIMITED SPACE and SHARED TIME on a physical server (REAL server) - in fact they hire or play on an INSTANCE of DayZ which may be one of perhaps 7 instances all playing at the same time on the same server. That hardware server has fixed live memory, fixed processing power, and backup storage of a certain speed (slower than the live memory). Depending on the Server rules.. the allocation of processing power and live memory between the DayZ INSTANCES can be done in several ways. EG - If there are 7 instances on the server, but only ONE of them is playing, why not let that ONE use all the available processing power and live memory, and reduce it's allocation if another instance starts playing heavily, and needs it's share of processing power and live memory. Or how do you share the processing and live memory if all 7 instances are running with 20 players, some games doing a lot more than others..?? OK so DayZ fans talk about "my dayz server" when they mean a virtual server (a DayZ instance), running on a real hardware server that has several of these common parlance "servers" loaded up and hired out, all on ONE machine. shiny ? -
<<emuthreat reacted (confused)>> .. to my reply. Sorry emuthreat - I deeply apologist if stuff like wolves, barrels, tanning, spears, cars, etc (and the crafting & all the cooking variations) and MANY changes and additions to all kinds of stuff - SCUSE me deeply, if that-all has NOT happened in the last three years - 2015-2018. I kind of thought there had been some changes? .. Maybe I'm just plain wrong? - you should know when wolves were added to the game? What version? - And I know you're a vehicle freak & deep survival fan. Tell me REALLY "nothing changed" in the last three years ?? ("except visual stuff") Maybe I'm wrong? I guess its mainly changes and updates that would not impress city FPS fans - (like serious rain and that shit, lol). You never wrecked your car on a country road and had to fight off wolves with crafted weapons, soaked to the skin? (And I thought you were a guy who liked cooking with lard). In case REALLY nothing has happened to the gameplay in the last 3 YEARS, I apologize ABJECTLY to everyone concerned. xxP
-
Your screen has gamma too.. <sigh>
-
3 years? - You mainly a city boy? You never dove your old car clean off a back road in the dark and the rain and had to fight of a pack of wolves with a flint and a pointed stick you made for yourself when thy started howlin'?
-
Well - shooting bicycle-tourists on "tourist roads" could get pretty important

they LISTENED to you - that's a Good Thing, right? WOW dude ! - Have you really NOT EVER read a MICROSOFT Disclaimer... ?? - Microsoft tell you UP FRONT that if Nothing works at ALL or does totally unexpected things, or EATS your computer, your data and your dog, bankrupts you, drives you to a life of crime, does not perform in ANY way as "you the client" expect, and/or ANYTHING that MIGHT happen of which they have LEGALLY NO IDEA (and you signed to AGREE they HAVE no idea) that this thing you are buying is NOT "fit for purpose" in any way shape or form, its YOUR responsibility to know this - it MIGHT work, it could do ANYTHING, but you Signed for that GLITCH or 50 GLITCHES or that ARMAGEDDON - and they have cast iron GIANT law firms to back them if you try to sue them for recovery, death, or loss or ANYTHING at all related to, or "caused by" or concerning "the software" - BUT you won't get mad with them because you're FINE with that contract AND you LEGALLY sign to say that too - ie <<YOU bought it, we warned you, it's YOUR problem>>. Maybe Microsoft will fix something, maybe Microsoft won't.. If it really REALLY doesn't work and this is known worldwide by, say 330 million users - (like Vista) - ie its a TOTAL mess, MS will look at its profit margin and put out a new different OS and ignore ALL comments and COMPLAINTS about the last one, as if it never existed, and then you can SIGN UP, and ADMIT you were HONESTLY WARNED, pay your cash and buy that new one too. MICROSOFT = zero guarantee about anything.. you REALLY never ever READ that MS contract? .. did you? NOW - Have an interesting evening finding out how much Microsoft backs YOU up when you have problems with THEIR software. It's all in writing. * You had a problem - Bohemia LISTENED to you - that's a Good Thing, right? - & how LONG did that solution take? xxp
