What to do after fully geared?

Great multi-beanz, yes !! xxP Forget about "gearing up" - Just concentrate on the essentials.

How to survive the quick timers of hunger and thirst

Worms are poisonous. Eating them will make you sick, but not (yet) in Xbox, I think. Blue berries are no longer poisonous when raw (even on PC.. wow, I didn't know that!) - say droefheid dude, are you following me around ? - You can open a can of tactical bacon with e.g. a Sledgehammer, a Crowbar, a Pipe Wrench or a Flanged Mace if you really NEED to (pretty much anything you can hit a zombie with) .. otherwise find something more like a can opener for better results. Some of the info on Player Stats on the Dayz Wiki might not be up to date OK? : here's the link: https://dayz.gamepedia.com/Character_Status but it's worth a look - whole other bunch of stuff on the Wiki too, on weapons and crafting & etc. I don't know how much has changed (maybe raw worms don't risk giving even PC players food poisoning anymore? - that would be a PITY) and don't know how much real stuff has been implemented in Xbox.. but its a valuable resource.

you're missing about half the game still, far as I can tell, even the sun don't work - did you eat any of the blue berries yet?

jeez - lookout it's behind you !! (naaagh).. hmm.. too late..

nah, in the infantry the Sergeant gives you the entrenching tool and tells you to go find another 40 worms. So desert first (as soon as you've got the entrenching tool) then check out what direction you're heading for later. Don't make a fire until you're a = long way= from those wet cold totally lost guys waiting for their worms
  7. .. on the other hand it takes real skill, thought, knowledge, practice and planning, human knowledge, and observation and time, to become a totally experienced ace sniper and know how to hop from server to server stay hidden and max up your 700+ meter kills maybe that is why folk are always so down on snipers? Even gangs of thugs with axes truly don't like a good sniper with an overview of Cherno .. or the coast road or any fire station tower, or the Balota airfield & camp .. and other places.. sniping is KOS in it's most pure form, ain't it? No one ever gets mad at wolves or zombies. Is that because they are more predictable and less dangerous? Being hunted by a SMART enemy, OR thinking you're safe then being dead without knowing where the headshot came from, OR being jumped by a total psycho pitchfork maniac (jeez, a wierdo!) - is what makes the game - what it is. - sure are some stone cold-hearted mean players out there if those guys have a low-end skill set then your high end skill-set will be knowing how to deal with them them i guess * <one of many> .. Wolverine .. starts at 1:20

wait till its pouring down at night and you're cold wet totally lost and eating your last worm that's when it gets fun think yourselves lucky you got the time for a slow learning curve and easy beginners practice pretty soon it's going to get real xxP
  9. you could have got the drop on him, talked to him from out of the line of fire, or when you spotted the axe just shoot him in the legs, THEN talk .. <just saying> . Everyone plays their own game.. He knew you were armed (you shot) and he took to cover, didnt soot back when you weer in the open (no gun probably) .. then came at you with the axe from desperation when you moved in .. So he ended up with a set of good gear & weapons (lucky guy). But everyone plays as they feel, I'm not criticizing. just suggesting alternatives. - also if you needed to log out soon you would have to - trust him, OR kill him anyway, or get away & make sure you're not followed.

    I'm Lost

Wow - so tht's about as EASY as you can get.. !! Say - You Xbox folk get all the breaks! When I started playing and got really lost (a lot) , we learned that the wind was from the East (watch the clouds) so heading into the wind would eventually bring you to the coast.. and from the coast road it's real HARD to be lost.. That was as easy as it got, and still you had to learn it (as well as the other direction tricks) . But you Xbox players are starting off discovering Chernarus by wandering out there in survival Luxury ! I'll bet drinking from river water or eating raw meat doesn't even give you the chance of catching disease (yet) .. hmm? [mutter, spit, mumble] - sun always in the same place!? dang!! .. and the greenhorns STILL get lost? .. how do they manage to DO that? ENJOY xxP

    I'm Lost

You know how to find direction - North South West East ?? .. Check it out. In DayZ you can find compass directions from sun, moon, & stars .. it's a good survival thing .. (we used to have a prevailing wind too, but I don't know if that works now in the game, not taken heed of it since a long while back). It's worth finding out how to do survival direction-finding [on this Forum or a web wilderness survival beginners guide].. the direction-finding stuff that works in the real world, works in Chernarus. Then (if the sun's strong enough for shadow) it's easiest to align yourself, check the angle that you want to go compared to your shadow or tree shadows, and head straight that way .. In your case you've got a town on the map directly North of you. Go North, in 5 mins you'll be on the road and seeing the town. In Chernarus, when the sun is at it's highest (noon), it is overhead and directly South. At sunrise its just about East, at sunset its just about West. (I don"t know if BI is into equinoxes or not, are they?.. someone have to ask Yoda) And shadows point away from the sun. (heh) At night find the Pole star. It's there in DayZ. * At night if you have a crescent moon (any part of the moon is dark) , draw a line between the two points of the crescent down to meet the earth.. that point is due South. http://blog.outdoorherbivore.com/wilderness/moon-navigation/ And finally, maybe ought to ask BI about this - If the moon rises before the sun sets, the illuminated side is West. If the moon rises after midnight, the illuminated side is East. (right BI?) xxP
  13. good comment - one little point, quoted above, "shooting before someone shoots you is a game of luck" Your instructor would say - "trading shots is only 'luck' IF you come suddenly face to face - and if you do THAT it's 100% YOUR fault.. how come you didn't play it RIGHT and see the other guy first, way before he even knew you were around? You getting sloppy? " 'scuse me mentioning that; your whole comment overall sounded pretty good sense & experience, I thought - good vid, did everything right, plenty of situational awareness, IMO except the end. YOU know there were better ways of dealing with that. moving along: I'm a solo player (= & staying with people you meet with WILL get you into trouble sooner or later .. [so there are exceptions].. but the standard is: You have better sense than they do - Pretty soon someone will do something <not-sane> , and you find yourself in the middle of their cr@p..) Also players (or groups) with all-mill-gear-full-kit, look to ME like an immediate threat. They look like FPS players. For solo, survival, hunting, sniping, intelligent defense, 308 is a good gun. As back up I like the Mauser (red 9) because it don't need a clip.. (one box of ammo for each is FINE) ..OR, for backup instead, a double barrel sawed-off is good for a sudden unexpected face to face (IF it happens). Either way, approaching another player OR an unexpected face to face is down to you. If it don't work out, consider that you did it wrong. You made a poor judgement before you got close. chalk it to YOUR experience count. - this is just my opinion. Everyone plays different. xxP

Why is everyone an ahole in this game?

Why is everyone an ahole in this game? Logically there are only two possible answers, Captain : And what are those, Spock? 1 ) All the players you meet wanted to play that way 2) All online game players are aholes * The REASON for online games is that human players are COMPLETELY UNPREDICTABLE. Otherwise we could all stay home with a single-player game and play against AIs and NPCs. The only possible reason for logging in to an Online, is because other Human Players are there. And THEY can act totally any way at all. They are the ONLY reason it's worth logging in to an Online. It's what online games are FOR. But we do also know IRL Human Beings have just spent 30,000 years being the TOP PREDATOR on the planet. So .. er .. be kind of wary of them .. (eg - check them out from a distance, see how they act.. talk from a place they cant get a shot at you.. or keep them covered and tell them you want to be peaceful .. any first contact is going to have stress in it, specially if it sudden ..& a fight or flight reaction.. don't expect them to trust YOU either.. ) BUT Also because we ARE really unpredictable, there are some players who want to help you out, or have an easy talk, or team up.. (and they may be lying or telling the truth). There ARE players who spend their full-time being medics, or form anti-bandit patrols, or hand out food and advice. - there are also players who 100% ONLY want to be an ace solo hidden long-distance sniper and up their count. That's DayZ. * Figuring ways to approach other players can be helpful.. there are many discussions of this in the PC section ATM if you search you may find advice (they are in the PC section only because it"s been running for years and many folk have already asked the same questions, suggested stuff and talked it over) Also I notice since today (I guess OrLok set it up) - there is an Xbox Recruitement section now. You don't have to be an organized team to advertise, you can put in a line for yourself, maybe say how you play, & ask if anyone around wants get together with you .. Perhaps that is a way for you to go? xxP

    Server Hopping

Search the Forum Content under "All Content' for the words ' server hopping' = use the search box box in top right of screen (I guess you know) You will find 342 Threads giving opinions and suggestions (and rants), and counter-arguments on "hoppers". So you have maybe 3,000 opinions to check out already, right here in the Forum: See what you think of some of them? These include how to stop it, change it, penalize it, why-shouldnt-I-do-it, technical suggestions, log out pause time, private server suggestions, unfair public servers, personal cheating, no-log zones, complaints, loot economy suggestions , and some unworkable ideas as well as some other smart thoughtful ideas.. Meanwhile.. if you'r ever in SE Airport, look out for snipers on the roof of the tower blocks.. (damn, I TOTALLY don't know how that sniper GOT there.. but if they ARE there, you won't ever have a chance to ask them). xxP

No real emphasis on group/clan play

https://forums.dayz.com/forum/127-recruitment/ Up to now this (link) has been the recruitment thread for PC (... obviously) so right now it's under the "PC section" .. don't see why it should stay that way? or maybe BI should start another Recruitment thread for Xbox? - I don't know which way they want to handle it - Recruitment is a pretty ACTIVE topic.

only because your gun problem is an Xbox bug (known) and isn't a PC problem anywhere : so I used it as as an example of PC/Xbox gameplay differences, bugs, & versions : stuff to look out for if you're learning to play or reading geneal forum advice. https://feedback.bistudio.com/project/view/31/ p.s. : xxP
  18. You too, dude! - I hear you. Respect, and I"ll raise a glass to you and to the veterans - that was some PLACE ! . Sometimes I used to catch myself hesitating and taking a breath before I logged in, ya know? Just to get your head exactly straight, and then .. THERE YOU ARE .. right IN IT . And from that moment you couldn't afford to take your eyes off the screen for anything, not a second. That was totally an experience. - And everybody and every thing that was in it. Hey, you Xbox guys and girls - don't listen to the old veterans mumbling stories, you won't understand them anyway , and who cares (except THEM.. because they were there) - Now you just go OUT to that place and find it for yourselves : Hey, before ya go: stay sharp, Don't get fond of your gear, Never give up, Keep your spare eyes in the back of your head, Carry plenty bandages, Stay Human , Fall dead facing whatever the hell just killed ya, & If it eats your boots deal with it. It's a whole new world to learn ! xxP

My thoughts and ideas for improvement

OK .. yes (damn your eyes, Mr Anyeurysm!).. this is 100% the "DayZ on Consoles/ Xbox/ NEW PLAYER" section of the Forum.. not the "DayZ-PC/New Player"... BUT it seems like MOST or nearly ALL new players, by a long way, ARE Xbox players.. When things are sorted out perhaps ALL new players will be able to share experiences or even get advice from ancient(er) players, whatever they play DayZ on .. Seems like Xbox has taken off in a big way.. .. so use whatever section suits you best .. (it sure doesn't say "PC New Players ONLY" in that "PC" header) and for the moment, experienced PC players are more likely to be looking through THOSE topics than the Xbox section.. I guess.. BUT you will find answers to all your questions/problems above, in other parts of the Xbox section .. or at least find players complaining about the same stuff, if you read the other Xbox Thread Categories = & Natch, ALL the players in the Xbox section are also "New Players" too. BUT there ARE real differences right now between PC and Xbox DayZ... (it's useful to be aware of them) - A LOT of PC players are playing the Stress Test version of the PC game - and there is a lot of talk about it on the forums, you'll notice. AND there is the PC Experimental version, which has always attracted a good number of experienced players & given rise to plenty of comments. So at the moment PC has the Standard Stable game, the Experimental game, and now STRESS TESTS to make a third option (you chose in Steam to load up the DIFFERENT files for the game version you want to play today) - which of them you play depends how much you want to be involved in the development, find bugs, or be the first to try new stuff that might be modified or included, or just play the Stable release.) Each of these THREE PC "versions" actually does different stuff and may have unexpected stuff, different controls, different gear, different settings, different BUGS (eg if Bears turn up in the game, they would normally be tried out on Experimental first to see if they were glitchy) .. only the Stable Version is the "end product" -"so far"- and it looks set to change rapidly IMO. - As for Xbox, it is (in fact) a "first" version, with glitches bugs and "built in" new programming problems, that is being ironed out, as the Bug Reports come in and as BI staff read the comments. Xbox definitely has DIFFERENT problems to the problems that show up on PC. so with 4 versions running (3 PC and 1 Xbox) I guess BI have their hands full. But in fact - this is the way it has always been, just more so ATM. Xbox games have an "official structure" (Microsoft certification process, I think .. is that right?) that has to be adhered to - PC games you can program anything any how you want, as long as it (mainly) works. .. Experimental will be the next iteration of PC Stable, and Stress Test is full of a whole HEAP of stuff players can hammer at just to see if it works.. So if you want info on Xbox AND on Gameplay, look around the Xbox forums AND the other forums, look out for BI official announcements and BI comments, (BI will be saying a LOT about Xbox pretty soon) AND sign up for the Bug Report board (it tells you what problems are already listed (which is good to know), and what stage of solution they are at, and you can help out BI if you list a new glitch). Xbox bug report - ya have to log in = https://feedback.bistudio.com/project/view/31/ * Have fun. BI has a way of doing things that some folk don't like - BI don't act like other games designers - but I got to admit I LIKE this company. I believe they are human, they work hard, they are honest, you get to know the Names of folk working on a game aspect, and they TELL you the problems and the solutions they are aiming for. ( & they try things out just to see who likes them or how they play). As well as the bug-solves, the game itself changes bit by bit from one version to the next. That's all great, to me - seems confusing at first but you get the hang of it. Some people want the game "finished" and locked down without any more changes ever (the "Final Version", but I don't personally care about that, I like it moving on), some folk get tired of one particular release version or take some time off, many folk hang out on Experimental all the time, and there is a lot of discussion NOW (swamping the other stuff on the forum ATM) about Xbox and about PC Stress Tests. so that's how it is. Look ALL around, get the hang of this crazy place and this crazy game. Get used to it, & get into the game. Meanwhile =IMO= I think Xbox is going to get 95+% totally solid playable in a very short time. For sure. xxP

Nice .. But be careful around airfields - there is a kind of long tradition that they are shoot on sight areas - BAD people hang out around those places .. It's always been that way, maybe you Xbox folk will play different.. but I wouldn't spend any time wandering around any airfield, except careful and fast IN & fast & careful OUT.. - unless I was holed up in a good place like in the woodline with a sniper rifle. <just mentioning> ENJOY

Please reduce the need to drink and feed

is fishing in on Xbox yet ? .. you can make fires and cook the animal life, right? - fishing is pretty easy if the chance of disease from rivers and lakes hasn't been added to Xbox yet, then you can drink until you "feel really full" anywhere, with no worries - that should hold you for a while. Even on PC where you CAN catch disease from natural water (not pumps) it only happens "occasionally" (like, not always, for sure) .. if you keep drinking from rivers it will get you sooner or later (if it is in the Xbox game yet), but even with disease included, you can chance filling your stomach with river water if you need to (one mouthful or a full belly makes no difference to your chances.) A lot of times you will get away with that. If you do get ill from bad water, or uncooked meat - at the FIRST warning, drink till you vomit, there's a chance that emptying your stomach like that will save you. < never played Xbox, I'm just going from what I've read in this Xbox thread, .. maybe try it out ? >

Yes - as a low grade Under-Uber Master of the PC I felt by my oath of Fealty to the Ultimate PC Beings above me obliged to forthrightly hint at their notice of Xbox users (not that they give it much attention, naturally). When you attain "PC" you will understand ! NOTwithstanding that this is "New Player Discussion" here, and you never once stated that you were an Xbox sufferer user. You are 83% forgiven, for assuming that "new player" means "Xbox owning person"... so you SHOULD have mentioned it.. and I should have mentioned my mega-PC which has TWO CORES (whole!) & runs win 7 (with the memory limit taken off),& XP, and Linux, (& I threw out Win 10, like who Needs it? ) and the Android OS (heh, found THAT somewhere, it is a CRAP Linux, oh my gawd!).. er...& a simulator so I can play Gameboy .. see? We are just used to having PC owners around here.. Sorry I didn't mention - we have to come to some kind of friendly deal about that. HOWEVER you are exactly right, that it is a PITY there is not a center for finding info - or at least for finding out where to look - this FORUM is supposed to be that.. but info is scattered across the web, and even BI staff themselves use other routes sometimes. BRING players INTO the Matrix (or in fact .. er.. OUT of the Matrix, know what I mean?) BRING them to the center. But there is no mention of the Forums UP FRONT where new players can SEE it (and there never has been, far as I know). Put a link on the login title Page, BI people. ONE visible link to a Community Info page would be a fair start, and from there you could find pointers to all kinds of links to useful places & topics. That first link could be to an updated INTRO to THIS forum - A BI locked Topic - (players have written a few intro/guides in the past, they are still around, but getting old) - I have to agree that this would tend to bring plenty new players INTO the community. Then they could find out for themselves about the Chaos. * [ Also .. I guess this is perhaps a different subject?? .. there are language "problems" - I've heard hints of multi language versions of DayZ coming up (interesting for the Xbox World?) .. but the French (for instance) & Taiwanese, S America (Portuguese), Japanese, Spanish .. = Western & Eastern areas of Europe, Plenty of Asia, S America = have their own "local" fan forums & discussions because they are not hot on English, or Russian. Players from those areas turn up here from time to time, with language difficulties (& generally folk help them out, but there must be many not-good-english players who don"t show) This Forum is really 100% the Anglo Saxon speaking forum, plus one section in Russian. - ok, Russian and English covers a lot, and PC owners are usually super-educated (as we know) so that covers plenty of people , but no one can expect every Xbox owner in the world to be multilingual. ] {.. er .. if they were they'd be half way to PC level } in the old days just sometimes, before the USA woke up, when the ping got real low, I played on the Tokyo server (from france) - and that was real interesting. Mainly I played on an Oman server - my main place (they got a world class internet node there), or Prague, & Romania (university of Bucharest I think?).. & France (where everybody speaks french) & UK obviously (tough buggers) & early morning USA .. OK - I agree that Community is a good thing. Hi Anyeuryism. xxP

My thoughts and ideas for improvement

Well: a) If you're an Xbox player you'll find all the answers you asked for in the Xbox section of this blog, where everyone is discussing them (seems to me) b) ? "the game just launched" ? - OK, Maybe most Xbox players don't know about this Forum yet? Has anyone told them where it is? My experience in the PC master-race, is that MOST (but not all) DayZ players never come to the blog, they just dive straight in to the game, and only come here to problem-solve (or complain), .. OR just to hang. AND BI runs the official Bug Report Log you can enter info to if you REALLY want to contribute to improve the game (so JOIN it). * * * That given - to be FAIR - DayZ info IS scattered around, it might turn up on reddit before it arrives here - that's a pity (specially - but not only - if it is info or opinions from a developer for instance, that should be HERE first, IMO.. (but human is human. BI let it play that way - on purpose? - BI ain't Apple, for sure, thank G!). Also, BI does not run the 'DayZ Wiki' (and other fan sites) , it has an alternative site (a kind of roundup of interesting stuff & vids). AND BI run this Forum. BUT against your first header argument (about in-game info) = As well as plenty of Xbox players on this blog (already 1500+ contributions & ideas & explanations & complaints in the Xbox section) I notice from the stats that box-players have NO TROUBLE finding DayZ Xbox info on YouTube.. Like yous-all is pre-programmed to go straight there or something ?? There is a LOT of "how to play" info in the game if you LOOK.. (and recently they have added MORE with bars and stats - things that for YEARS "we" DID NOT WANT TO SEE in-game. That was put forward from the START as ONE of the plus features of DayZ = NO bars or Stats. Try opening a can of beans with a hammer and READ the on screen messages (they aint exactly Tomb Raider instructions, kids, but they ARE there). If you are half way smart you will see how full your water bottle is, and how many beans are left in the can - it's WRITTEN on the screen. And you will figure that maybe a can opener or a knife will do better, next time ? And next time you will TRY that. I see your point, and I STRONGLY disagree. BI are NOT going to run their own HOW TO PLAY MANUAL, because (for one thing) there is all you need already around, they have ADDED instructions and results in-game AND health bars (and stomach contents, .. jeez.. what else do you need? ) Do players need to know before they start, that if they shoot or strike a ground floor plate glass window (like hospitals) it will shatter? One of the main FUN playing points of DayZ is finding out for yourself, and doing some research if you need to, and checking other player experience if you want to.. Survival = Learning. Ain't no rule about how you learn. DayZ = Survival. Ain't no rule about how you learn that, ain't no rule about how you play either, or how you survive. You want to know "crafting" and "objects" - look at DayZ Wikipedia. Then what else is there? Real life experience? - read the Forum, watch the vids, hear the advice, ask questions, look at youtube. Making the game "easier on the player" WILL increase sales.. and it will give the game a shorter lifetime, OK. I call that "making the game less interesting and less unusual to make more money faster". If you give the average player an average-mentality game their average reaction will be 8.6 on Steam. We know that. .. The point of DayZ is not to make BI rich, that's really not why I play. (at well over a thousand hours, it's the cheapest damned game I ever played, no DLCs, no paid upgrades, and a one time payment made me a member for life.. so is that making them rich?) and Xbox players are 100% welcome bringing plenty NEW BLOOD as long as they get the idea it AINT an easy game. BUT perhaps a LOT of Xbox players are tired of the 80+% repetitive mass-sales short-lifetime average stuff they are given as "choice" (exactly the same as we PC-elite were, when DayZ turned up) .. SOME of them must want to join the hard use-your-brains mean-game players, and play a game that STRESSES their HEADS & gives them Nightmares? .. One thing for sure, in DayZ "boredom" won't give them STRESS, FEAR, WORRY, NEED-TO-KNOW, UNFAIR ODDS, DESPERATION, THE KICK of OVERCOMING, VICTORY, ZEN, GREAT SUNSETS, STILLNESS & DEATH Do anything you need, to survive, even if it means finding out how someone else did it. Even if you have to search (a tiny bit) for an answer, & you may find several completely different answers. (ps = IRL Survival situations, boredom is a killer - players who don't have the willpower in them to keep away from boredom won't stay in the game). IRL - you can read the whole set of Survival Instruction Manuals, and then go out there and you will die. You must live it to understand it, find out what works. - Maybe you could suggest a way of pointing Xbox players (in game, in the login?) to the Xbox meeting place on the DayZ blog? Note : DayZ IS AN UNFAIR GAME - don't expect presents, friendlies, waterproofs, free loadouts, a full stomach or or an easy life. It is UNFAIR in so many ways I can't start to tell you. The aim is YOU against THE GAME. ENJOY xxP

You don't have to quote a whole text, mike, you can just quote the lines that interest you, or that you want to particularly comment or you can use " ..//.. " to indicate elisions, like this .. ..//.. <duh> ..//.. This way you make it easier for us players who have a tiny short attention span, no point quoting 30 lines, just to say in 1 line that you don't understand my point and the discussion is boring you OK mate ?.

My thoughts and ideas for improvement

It's tough for Xbox players, that THEY only started a few days ago.. so they cant YET explain to each other their ideas on how to survive a long time (except today's thread on "How To Cook Chicken", maybe?).. and the Xbox game is half built right now - But Xbox players made a CHOICE in life just like PC players made a choice, so please don't blame ME if they find themselves in a PC developed game that is DESIGNED NOT to tell a player how to play. Times you just have to find out stuff for yourself, and DayZ is designed to be one of those. - even Pokémon was pretty tough at the start.. Right? .. but bit by bit folk got the Pokémon idea, except the ones that dropped out. I'm sorry 50% of Xbox players want a complicated game made easy for THEM, and they get frustrated if it isn't, AND then don't want to play OR don't want to look for solutions. I personally think they're missing out and I [think] I expected better of them. But - Maybe it's ME that's WRONG - Ive only been on DayZ SA for 5 or 6 years.. and perhaps I should be playing a less challenging Xbox game with lots of instructions, instead of a complicated PC game with 'few' in-game instructions ? I'm open to being convinced.
