    Tents?

I don't think you paid to do a beta test on Bombarding .. Everyone likes to hear your comments on the game, no one is trying to stop you playing ..er.. understood ? So - "the game is no fun at all" - that's your view, I guess some other players share it too.. other folk maybe don't .. Pretty SOON a LOT of stuff is going to be added in to the Xbox version.. you have the first iteration on Xbox.. Baty Alquawen has said the focus is to bring the PC and Xbox game versions together, so they move in parallel, so that gameplay on one will be the same gameplay on the other, each time new stuff/changes are introduced on one platform they also become new stuff on the other .. So you have a simple version (and PC Experimental is a simple version too, right now). As soon as BI has Xbox 1st Iteration ironed out, (secure and solid) they will add in ALL the other stuff that PC players have lived with. So if you like PVP you've got a game already for PVP with some angles that other PVP games don't have - it's like living in a war zone, right? In this game you can get lost and starve before you ever come under fire. That's realistic, that's part of the game. Get to know your way around, this is a big place - then when the 2nd Iteration comes in (SOON) you'll be an old tough player compared to the new people who jump in - and DayZ will be a lot harder & more complicated when that happens. - just a thought.

Unable to resume play after restarting console

Shut the game down when you've finished playing. Steam likes that.

Game was fun for a while

So choose anther sever and STAY on it... Or beg BI to lock you to one server for all your life. Problem solved.. But is there really ANYBODY who has ALWAYS played on just one server since they started the game? How you ever going to find out what other servers and the local folk on those servers are like ? Maybe your favourite DayZ gameplay is just one server away from where you are now, but if you don't go look, you'll never find out about it ?

    Severograd freezing and lagging

Right - the further from your location, the lower the texture is set: so when you scope in, it's like you have instantly relocated into a whole are that had "distant textures" a moment ago. . There is (on PC) a slight fps effect while the textures are replaced in your scope sight view.. but on PC we are used to that, and it has a "kind of" realism? .. On PC it's an effect players adapt to .. I think there are three levels of textures in use - close, medium and distant. Going into a city, there is a lot more info in the "close" surroundings than in the country or in a village. Not only the textures, other info and interactive objects too have to be uploaded to you- [eg that loot doesn't just spring into existence when you lay eyes on it, - it's got to be there waiting for you, the cars are located with open or shut boots and doors, and all that stuff] and DayZ has to set this up rapidly at your local end. it was always true (a year or more back) that play in cities dropped the frame-rate a bit, compared to play out in the country.. BI worked on this a lot, and now I see some folk on PC have started boasting about the frame-rate they get in cities, instead of complaining. To see if this is reproducible : All you have to do, anywhere.. out in the country too.. is spin around non -stop and look at different stuff, look at the sky look at the ground, look all around 360 fast, different directions, keep turning, put the scope to your eye and take it away again., get as much of the environment as you can going across your screen all the time in all directions and scope in and out .. see how much your frame-rate drops. On PC you would see a temporary dip. Doing that on PC you CAN definitely drop your frame rate to check the effect, see how low it goes. But if doing that drops Xbox to ONE frame every 10 secs. Then that's a problem.. but I WOULD be amazed if you can get it down to that by this method. (if you really can, I don't envy the devs.. rather them than me). Doing this 'little test' gives you a baseline, and it is reproducible. (On PC it is a fast check of your rig and your graphics settings - but Xbox are "all the same rig" ) If it is a problem, then go do it in a DayZ city street and see what happens. If you can reproducibility get your frame-rate LOW then report it. Plus estimate how many other players are in your zone, and note the sever cap. (ya know that stuff) if If a spread of different Xbox users talk about it and report it - then BI will soon decide if it is a real Xbox problem, or the server software, and not just one person with a messed up connection or a local ping jumping up and down for some local reason. If you can tell them how to reproduce it, then someone will do exactly that (like; today) and see if it happens. If it's 'real' they will def have a whole team on it , very fast, very seriously. So go for it - Anyone know of any other 'similar' Xbox games that have a "0.1 fps" problem ? ps - I guess you know you can use a scope without a gun, as a spyglass.. right? Make life easy on yourselves.

Game was fun for a while

Log in to some other server - even a medium-slow ping server. Move inland and hide behind a bush or somewhere in a town (get some bandages on the way, ya know?).. have fun, then log out. Log in to one of your top five servers and you'll be far away from the campers, behind a bush, or in a village. Start playing from there. Also its a good way to check out other servers that aren't the fastest or aren't your top choice. Sometimes they are interesting, and they seem to play ok even if the ping is not fantastic, so you might even add them to your list of faves and hang around there for a while.. ?? ENJOY
  6. You can send the refund request to me with a $48 processing charge and a stamped self addressed envelope, and I'll send the refund back return of post, as long as you can get the game effaced from your Steam list and show proof. Disclaimer: I have nothing to do with BI or Steam or etc, and nothing recent going with any software/hardware/manufacturer/designer/distributor/cable company/freak/blackhat/ISP/reverse engineer/factory/or wiring diagram, and I'm not married or sleeping with anyone who does. Also I never worked for Apple, just for the record.

    Advance notice about character wipes?

Right - BI are now dealing with 2 different platforms- that's a major ongoing event, just for planning and assigning workload and looking at gameplay development tech, habitual assumptions, and dual platform file structures .. hmm ?? I have a kind of suspicion that PC Experimental has been cut back to a nub, a core game.; with at least PARTLY the intention that that "core" will be "cleaned & checked" to be used on BOTH platforms - to provide the same experience on PC and Xbox.. and when THAT kind of cross platform stability is reached.. then add on all the missing bells and whistles stage by stage, to get both PC and Xbox back in parallel to 0.62-0.63 .. the SAME game on each platform, and go on from there.. You develop "the game" to a fork.. when it reaches the fork it goes left and right to the Xbox platform and to the PC platform.. anything new you add in before the fork, and when the process is smoothly running, and the fork tech is in place, it comes out after the fork working on both versions... this is just an idea I have .. I talked it over with Yoda, he may be right: .. if that "cross-platform realignment of the core game" isn't "exactly" going on the design instructions for the file-by-file game you play (whatever you play on), it for sure IS going on in the heads of the programmers. ... plus organisation & it comes to the same thing.. xxP

    Advance notice about character wipes?

With advanced notice, what would you do? - just STOP playing and sit around for a couple of days waiting for it to happen, and then check to make sure you'd lost your character and your stuff? - or would you keep playing anyway right up to X hour, knowing that when you logged back in after X hour it would all be gone? You know - in DayZ starting off on the beach in your underwear is not the WORST THING that can happen in the world - or HEY ! maybe it IS the Worst Thing.. but either way, if you play this game you are going to new spawn in your underwear REALLY 100s of Times (and throw away the damned flare 100s of times, and go get some rags for bandages... ) so there aint NO HARM in that.. it's an integral part of the game.. You WILL go through that freshspawn underwear stage REALLY REALLY a LOT of TIMES if you are a DayZ player ... so now 1 small bit of extra practice wont do you no harm.. will it ? really ? pinch of salt

I'd be AMAZED and GOBSTRUCK if DayZ were BENDING the UTTER LIMITS of Xbox "rendering or gpu and graphics memory".. Are you claiming Xbox cant DEAL with DayZ at 60 frames and has to drop to ONE frame every 10 secs because of the infinite detail and graphics complexity of this MEGA GPU-EATING game ?? - sorry mate, I just cant see that (I try, but I CANT wrap my head round that, I read the MS ads and specs..I swear..) .. DayZ plays for me OK on a 10 year old 2 core PC with a decent graphics card.. You claim Xbox aint even up to THAT standard?? - jeez how much did you pay for it? I got my PC out of a trash bin 5 or 6 years ago and put a 'new' fairly-high end GPU in <back then>. Maybe .. just a suggestion ... the problem is NOT the inability of Xbox to deal with DayZ graphics ? Will be very interesting if that IS the problem.

how long have you been building online games bent? I gave up working for games & tech companies a few years ago, so you're definitely more up to speed than I am. I am perfectly sure of the facts I stated, if they are helpful or NOT, I'll leave to you to decide. I made it as simple as I could because most of youz have ZERO IDEA how stuff works. Put in a report to feedback tracker - or give us YOUR suggestion. Make it very simple so we can understand. - thanx for the useful input. ENJOY

    Public Shard/Hive?

Hang on a mo.. The Hive stores player info.. the GAME software updates the Hive regularly on the player state = location and carried gear & player condition (health etc) - thats ALL. the Game updates the Hive regularly (often), AND immediately when the player is killed AND when the player logs out. This is why, if you are suddenly dropped from the server, when you log back in you are a few seconds behind your previous location and state, because the server has requested your player-state from the Hive when you log in and got the last stored player state. BUT you'll find the car you were driving a way down the road.. it's position is stored by the Game instance, not by the Hive. It does not matter WHICH game instance does the updating - the Hive does NOT even need to know which server the player is on. So with 100 GAME instances connected to a Hive, only ONE Game will ever query or get info on a player state at ONE TIME... because the player-state is IN USE by that single Game and not any other. The GAME instance has it's OWN database (which is NOT the Hive) so it knows where everything is, inside that one game, but it does NOT need to tell the Hive about it. eg The Hive does NOT know where all the cars are on any server at all. (why would it need to know?) Each Game instance knows where it's OWN stuff is. The Game also knows where the player is in that one Game, and what kit he has etc etc (and tells the Hive frequently) .. because only the player and the kit he carries can LEAVE that instance and log in to another.. cars and zombies cant. The Hive has NO IDEA where THEY are on each server - why should it? .. that info is stored in the Single Game instance, in it's own database (which is part of the installed GAME Software) - that's why when you log back in, the zombie that was standing next to is NOT there anymore.. the HIVE doesn't give a damn where the zomb is, it has no idea. And the Hive has no idea where you left your car or your tent either. The local Game instance Database knows that. So you have a Game (one instance) and you have a Hive. These are two separate things, even if they are both on the same server. A player with server space running a private hive has a Game instance and a Hive both on the same server. Other game instances on other servers can share that Hive if they agree to (if they point their Game at it). So when any GAME instance is talking to a Hive - it is only talking about a player-status (player health, location, and all his carried kit). At any time, only ONE game instance ever talks to ONE Hive about that ONE player - because you CANT have one player with one player-state playing on TWO GAMES at the same time - that would be a NON-sense. And you CANT have two GAMES "linked" as you suggest - or if a player drove a car a mile in THIS game instance, then the car in the OTHER game would drive a mile for no reason. This is also a NON-Sense. You are mixing up the Game instance's own database ( what you call "single file local-only database") with the Hive database. They are separate software entities. The distance between these two DISTINCT software entities does not matter - they can be on one server or half the internet apart. Right now, if you HIRE a private DayZ server, you get a private Hive (a "shard") with it.- costs you more - Several DayZ Games can - right now - run using that same Private Hive - if they decide to. Then their player-states can be moved to (requested by/and then modified by) any ONE of the instances using that Hive. Only one DayZ instance ever uses a player-state at ONE time, so there is no "locked file" problem. The Hive has nothing to do with the "local-only" database, the Hive is a =Different= database. One software CAN send info backwards and forwards between two different databases at "the same time".. right? Zero problem.

    Severograd freezing and lagging

On PC there is always some frame-rate drop in cites, but BI got it under control.. has been GOOD for a while. (and the zoom works as TYB says above .. is not a problem) Also - I live in a tourist region (next to French ski resorts) - out of season I can connect to MANY servers with a ping of 30-50. In the season, in every ski hotel at 5pm (all week) about a million consoles get turned on and my best ping drops to 150-200 (if I'm lucky) .. every server goes red. That's the traffic bottleneck through the ISP's regional servers.. Between 11pm-midnight, the million local tourists all go to bed and I'm OK again. so if you're in a city with 1000 local consoles within a block or so, who all play at the same time of day (they do, right?) - check your ping - try connecting at 6am on Tuesday, or 3pm on Wednesday, or 3 am - just to see if that makes a difference ?? Then at least you know if you should be looking for other problems, or shouting at your ISP.
  16. << someone help! This is the 3rd day I'm fighting the control settings and I can not change anything. My new keybinds are listed, but the character does not perform the action. What can I do about this? >> У меня такая же проблема (I have the same problem) - in Experimental ?? I'm left handed - so I use the number pad and right-end keys for actions like movement and 'look' and other quick actions (my standard layout for games) .. movement works, stand/lie/crouch works but /look left /right/look up left/look up right/free look/ inventory/ .. for instance - these don't operate in Experimental when the keys are bound to the numeric pad. .. and listed as bound and OK. no joy. don't know why

1 frame per 10 seconds must be a record .. I ain't never heard of ONE frame per TEN seconds on PC.. You sure your Xbox is not playing by wifi on a shared ISP home-box with your bro doing something else and your dad watching football at the same time, plus your sis video chatting ?? That will slow you down, for sure. Ethernet connection ONLY, to the ISP, definitely. Less devices in the house running different stuff through the ISP box at the same time is GOOD - turn off you antivirus (if Xbox HAS that option), disable auto updates on everything (if Xbox can do that) and don't run other software while you play.. hey, I'm a PC player, not an Xbox expert at all .. but at least the ISP home bottleneck is the same for all of us. - just suggesting
  18. That is a good point Consoles have always been under the control of a Big Corp, and the games have to have the Big Corp stamp of approval before they are permitted on that console (goes for single player games too). Console players think they are on the internet but in fact they are on a subset of the internet CAREFULLY filtered by Big Corp (eg Microsoft, for instance) - and those rules, that filter, is put in place for PROFIT , plus the "moral" oversight of <how our kids should act, according to the Microsoft USA Public Opinion Department> (that's for profit too, in the long run). A Console is kind of like reaching the internet by using the Wifi at MacDonalds .. except maybe not ..<exactly> that bad... nothing could be THAT bad... er, could it? Consoles are designed (bottom line ) as a pay machine - like any tablet phone, via profitable forced choice censorship. And this is EXACTLY why you can't root your console.. you are NOT ALLOWED to "do what you like with it" This makes the PC users (the PC generation?) just LAFF.. <jeez>.. I "can't" do WHAT I WANT with MY PC.. ?? = LOL... that's what it's FOR.. I can even imitate Consoles on it if I WANT. I can run multi OS and I can MESS with them.. why the EF else would I have a PC? .. I can do any-thing with it, limited only by my mind and my skills and what-ever is out there.. and if it's NOT out there I can damn well make my own and PUT it out, any way I like. Don't need no Big Corp to tell me how to mess with my own rig and the rest of the world - even on Internet TWO.. (grach .. pthooow! ) * So - it's real interesting to see Microsoft accepting to run a game that has Cannibalism in it.. and handcuffing players, putting bags on their heads, and breaking their legs with sticks.. I was SURPRISED that got MS approval !! ... maybe things are changing? Bottom line is MS will go where the money is, they just want to stay in control of the money and that includes not getting bad comments in the non-player mass popular press. (say, I wonder - does that make MS more like Trump, or more like the Spanish Inquisition [keeping out of sight but PRESENT] ?) Still - I don't see any way that Console players and PC players could BOTH log into the SAME DayZ server - standard DayZ public Hive - THAT would be Great, but I think MS RULES would forbid it - it would be .. contamination..! (I know there are/have been a couple of cross platform MMOs.. but they seem pretty much anodyne and under control. (eg Angel Love Online ?) I remember playing Anarchy Online : It was a Europe-based games publisher - NOT USA - and it was the first online game I found where you could say fuck and not get auto-kicked or kicked by a referee.. it was full of (I guess) student to adult level players.. and player language was about 'Game of Thrones' level.. players didn't much go for violent extended abuse, and if they did, other players laughed at them or left them alone or a referee told them to STFU.. That was a non-USA attitude.. That was a GOOD game, but at it's time I don't think Microsoft would have accepted that attitude and style ( at all). So maybe times are changing - and Microsoft are realising that to keep their profit margin, they have to revise the Microsoft Bible? Players have to be let more into the "real world".. <but that's dangerous for kids! and the parents don't like it, and sales go down.. .. or maybe not?> and consoles move towards "controlled" PC options and play less in the Microsoft / Disney World playpen. Average age of a gamer is about 35 now. This is mainstream entertainment. Young players have to grow up or stay out, or even not be allowed in? [moral choice..whoooo.. spooky stuff in the online media/profit world] So it will be very interesting to see what happens. - to the market and the players. attitude is everything xxP

    Public Shard/Hive?

The DayZ instance on a server doesn't have to share with other DayZ servers - they just have to use the same Hive. We know this works because we can right now play the same DayZ version on many servers all using the Official Hive. Any group (shard) of DayZ servers only has one Hive, they use it to store/retrieve the player state, so the player can 'move' between DayZ servers. The player is only ever on one server. The game instance servers don't communicate with each other.
  20. pilgrim*

Need a way to stop Combat Loggers on Xbox One.

If you read memoirs from the First World War - a lot of people in the trenches say exactly the same thing as you (real people, not game avatars) .. and it's a theme that turns up in many war stories, and war films and apocalypse films .. and philosophers have discussed exactly that since the ancient Greeks.. ""this guy is the same as me, why do I have to kill him (or be killed by him)""? One theory says - From the time homo sapiens developed, from the stone age to today .. the only ONE dangerous deadly animal that he ever had to face and deal with ALL the time, anywhere - was other human beings. So we never had a reason to get together against an outside danger, we were our own danger, and that's become a kind of instinct. Like, why did generations of Vikings turn up totally geared up and kill & loot & pillage & burn monasteries full of peaceful monks, who just wanted a quiet thoughtful life.. and why are hundreds of Syrian civilian families (plenty of them completely non-violent innocent, especially the kids, right?) - why are THEY being bombed flat by totally geared up foreigners, as well as their own government? Hey the pilot of that warplane ain't never even SEEN or MET those people he's bombing to death.. he don't know them. The Vikings didn't have a chat with the monks about their fave books before the battle, either. Maybe their King got together a raid for profit and some of the crew were just there because they needed the work? .. List all the words that mean "raider" "footpad" "bandit" "highwayman "invader" "terrorist" "killer" "outlaw" .. there are a few hundred of those words going back in time right to the first tribes and families.. If you look at human beings, all the way from Real Life through to Mad Max.. killing a person who has done nothing to you - it seems to happen. So what's new? For hundreds of years, some folk have chosen NOT to do that, too.. It's your game. Play it xxP
  22. pilgrim*

    Public Shard/Hive?

Seems unlikely - if you had your server on the public hive, you could create all kinds of non-standard stuff (instant gear spawns, backpacks full of ammo, whatever) on your home server, and folk could gear up with that and move to another public server. Can't see how that could happen. If you mod the game in any way (and who's to say you won't) you can link up with other private shard servers running the same mod. Don't see that would be a problem ?
