Cannot start Dayz after being able to.
pilgrim* replied to Kiefer Klieven's topic in Troubleshooting
If you already did this it's not the problem. You are the Administrator, right? Turn off any antivirus while you play. see what happens. You can also reinstall Steam (if you have the passwords the stuff you need) OR - you can tell steam too reinstall DayZ to a different disk or a different folder (the fastest you have on your PC) If you have special settings on your GPU software for DayZ, don't forget to update them if you change the DayZ location. If nothing happens (NO messages) except Steam says DayZ is "running".. and you're sure its not ..like.. running minimized .. (had to ask) .. then look in Task Manager and see if DayZ is Really running on your PC. It's REAL STRANGE that Steam says DayZ is running and you get Nothing appearing on your screen at all? just the desktop STILL as usual ?? Zero Messages?? even for a second ? -
- increase the maximum queue value ?? try 256 items ? (ya never can have enough live memory) & set up a RAID 0

maybe he means the GPU? - totally anything that can run win7 can run win10... ps : Win10 was designed to run on any trash at all, any time you see a device running win10 just tie a rock round it's neck and drown it, club it to death or shoot it.. Do the world a favor - hot damn, I can probably run win 10 on the controller in my washing machine BUT I got my PRIDE & I want to bring up my kids RIGHT. Most USA aircraft carriers and nuke subs run on win10 that's why commanders and techs float around going nowhere kicking the hardware so often (they have a special klaxon for Reboot) & the next USA moon landing will be totally Win 10.5 = embedded avionics, communications, tablet snapshots, ground control and live tweets. So I guess they'll find the Chinese living on the moon mining Uranium and having birthday parties when the USA gets there. They-all USA military folk should at LEAST have stuck with XP - I DUNG WARNT'D THEM -<< CHINA IS about + 250% LINUX ALL DOWN THE LINE >>.. and the shit is going to HIT the fan while it's pointing West. - had to get that off my chest. Good! PlayOnLinux will get round to adding DayZ to their LONG list of games (development tools, and OTHER stuff) now the DayZ server files are available. just a matter of time and interest.. Maybe threalunhinged should put Linux on his spare box and get used to finding his way around it - see how it works (if he's not done that before). A thing like that could change his life.

Pokemon Red on Gameboy -
I think the server trap bug is "Probably" why BI have held off on the log-out and log-in timers for the moment.. They need to have that server problem sorted completely 100%, before they start messing with delays (that's my GUESS). But Xbox is intended to follow PC exactly - when they are brought into phase (which is ongoing) - so whatever turns up on PC will arrive on Xbox too. ..er INELUCTABLY

Quote from the wiki on spawning / de-spawning "The Central Loot Economy (abbreviated "CLE") is DayZ's unique management system for loot spawning and clean-up. It is a complex system of tags, categories, zones, maximums, minimums, averages, and so on. The CLE dictates exactly how many of each item can be present on a single instance of the game at a time (one server), with important factors like randomization and rarity baked in. These values can be adjusted at any time, without requiring players or servers to install a game update." Dancing.Russian.Man already quoted this in > Xbox a couple of weeks back: If you want to, give it a try, test it out : - Find someplace with loot - take the loot well away outside and dump it.. Go to a distance and check the dumped loot through your scope OR/AND keep away from the house but go in and check it every couple of minutes to see how long before new loot spawns. You might find different stuff turns up at different rates (depends what the loot is) .. because different locations have each their own loot lists.. and the server decides when there is not enough of loot X on the whole server. Loot that has been moved and dumped will sooner or later despawn.. up tp you to check the timing, but it will vary for several reasons.. it's "not simple". Stuff you keep in your player's kit or hands is not counted as being "on the server".. etc (also in your car, tent, stash, - when Xbox gets those) ENJOY

(1) We PC players HAVE a timer between logs. When you log OUT you get a 15 second timer - you just stand in the game, can't move but can still see the action, with a countdown window midscreen - This timer window has two buttons, YES and N0.. if you press Yes you go back to the front Game Screen immediately BUT you LEAVE your avatar standing on the server until the timer runs out. While you are ingame with the logout timer window counting down, If you press NO you can move again, the countdown window vanishes, and you're back in the game. In my opinion, 15 seconds , is not enough - it should be at least 30. (think of all the situations where this would make BETTER and MORE INTERESTING & EXCITING play). Life would definitely be more dangerous. More Fear and Stress is GOOD for ya !! (2) ALSO on PC if you log into a game and out again too QUICKLY, and immediately try to log in again anywhere you get a 60 or 90 second waiting countdown, before you are logged into the next (or same) server. SO - (I think this is how it works) - you have to play for a minimum time on one server before you can leave it and log in somewhere else with no penalty. (Check with the experts for the timing details, I don't hardly eve do that). So that knocks Ghosting on the head, for sure.. On PC, if you change servers fast; at the second login (back to your original server if you're ghosting) you get stuck with a 90 second penalty.. Any PC players want to tell me if I've got any of these facts wrong, please ?? I'm not 100% sure about the log-IN timer - what the delay lengths are, and how they are triggered. (thanx) But that's pretty much how it works on PC. It messes with combat loggers and makes it bigger risk (but it should be MORE), and it more or less stops ghosting (because it just ain't worth it, by the time you get back the fight's over). Also it slows down (a BIT) and discourages hoppers.. that's ONE Main reason I want a LONGER logout time.. but also a longer logout makes combat much more dangerous - the player has to THINK before he takes a risk, so stupid risks always HAVE consequences. there is NO eject button. I guess Xbox will be getting this stuff as soon as BI sort it. Ask Baty Alquawen = She Knows Everything xxP

Right Yeti - Use it in your favor as you are (very probably) smarter than the players doing it. North of Electro the hill overlooking the Fire Station/Factory used to be call "sniper hill" because they had a perfect overview of the fire station tower windows from there, and players looking for gear always went up the tower. If you came through the woods down from further back up the hill, at the border of the trees you could find a prone sniper glued to his scope, waiting for the next player to show at a window, and you could just hit him in the head with anything seriously heavy and take all his gear. It was really less difficult than killing a chicken. - Even if they (sometimes) heard you coming or 3pp'd - it was too late, he had a scoped rifle and you were standing next to him with an axe .. Whatever the rules are ATM, players will always find ways to take maximum advantage of them (that's the game, right?) - you just have to find ways of making it a LOT LESS of an advantage than they expected. (heh)

ZOMBIES !! This used to happen in the original DayZ mod. BACK THEN there were PLENTY of Zombs and they ran fast (they had lousy tracking but that made them more zombie-like. They were FAST on the chase, even with no-brain) - if you were trapped on a 2nd floor or in or a high-rise you were in the shit. Also we had IN GAME mikes in DayZ-Mod.. and the Zombs could HEAR YOU TALK... they came running if you spoke .. If you got up on the corner of a roof and just clicked your mike on and off a couple of times, you'd gather a crowd like this waiting below in Beavis3D's photo - It was good to do from the roof corner of the apartment building across from the store, then the next players who ran round the corner to the store found 25 zombs all NOTICING them at once ... AND you could crawl past zombs, or lie motionless when they walked around maybe 4 feet away.. it was a Risk.. I've laid behind trashcans and watched the feet shuffle past.. BUT the best effect was FIRSTLY they moved around ALWAYS , they shambled, they went in and out of barns and through open doors, up stairs, and they turned street corners & walked, they were unpredictable..they didn't stand motionless.. they WALKED the STREETS .. and SECONDLY - & the MOST IMPORTANT - their 'RANDOMLY GENERATED" walk through & around an area was slightly BIASED towards any local PLAYER POSITION. - (and that IS very - totally - easy to program) So if you stayed in one place, the zombs would shamble around town normally, but SLOWLY their 'CONSTANTLY in-movement wanderings' would bring them CLOSER to where you were located. So if you stayed in a house, after a while you would have three, or five zombs, wandering around outside that house, even if they hadn't seen you yet.. like they KNEW there was live meat in the area.. THOSE old ZOMBS from DayZ Mod did everything zombs are SUPPOSED to do (and didn't burn out the server AI either) ... maybe someone should put them BACK in STRESS TEST or EXPERIMENTAL just as an EXPERIMENT ?? * * MOST IMPORTANT = zombs that slowly gather towards player presence will put a WHOLE New Aspect on basebuilding... RIGHT? (think about it). * * Am I right about ZOMBIES ?? = Try out the OLD ZOMBIES .. <give the Xbox players a RUN for their money>.. There were plenty of THOSE OLD Zombs & they didn't EASILY give up the chase. Am I right about FLIES ?? = Bring back the FLIES Yes xxP

How to minimise the risk of betrayal?
pilgrim* replied to bearjew1101's topic in New Player Discussion
techniques: 1) Look at your players' friends on Steam.; draw up a DB list of players/friends/incidents.. then get your resident Boffin (call them 'M') working out the connections. From then on use the Soviet KGB technique, the CIA technique or the Brit M16 technique, or MOSSAD's system.. (these are all "documented" , and all pretty much the same)... [ps. this is boring work] 2) OR - Split your clan into two groups under trusted lieutenants - both go different ways.. If you have one spy and one group has a significant higher number of ambushes, then you know the spy is in THAT group.. so you have 50% innocent players.. now subdivide and mix and do the same again.. that gets your "suspicious group" down to 25%.. rinse and repeat.. eventually you go on a mission with 5 trusted players and the suspect.. see what happens. 3) find out which external group is hassling you and infiltrate one of your players into their group.. (same as (1) - who's online, who is friends, etc) .. [more boring work, from the other end]. Might be fun for the infiltrator. Now I've told you openly, the player would be crazy to fall for any of this - RIGHT ? It's easier to only accept players who are recommended by an Already Trusted player you know, or who is known to another Trusted player. ..<pyramid> .. then each of your members has a sponsor. but hell, - as a general rule of thumb - if a player gets too "chummy" with you, just shoot them. That has always worked. = 3000 years of history can't be wrong!! ENJOY -
What will the next stress tests bring?
pilgrim* replied to Targaryen42's topic in General Discussion
Any time you get in a DayZ vehicle is a stress test .. -
From Lopatino try West to the fields between the railway lines and the road, that area is sometimes OK for deer and boar. Then also from Lopatino, the areas SW across the stream that runs with trees on both banks; also a good place to lurk, look at the open areas SW from there for deer and boar. Also - in the North there is the lake (pond) just NE of Zaprudnoe. you have cover there & I have several times seen boar & deer - & cattle around there and in Zaprudnoe itself - and wolves ..er .. (occasionally). I was in Nagornoe (NE of map) yesterday and saw boar in the fringe of the woods North of there, cows in the open field (3 days running), and then a lone wolf that attacked me (one bite) and then broke off and chased the herd of cows all over the place, until he finally came back into town and had a fight with a zombie that went on for quite a while. They made a lot of noise. Only time I have seen a single wolf on the rampage. Never can tell, things change, spawn rates change too.. but the Zaprudnoe pond has/had a reputation. Is also an interesting area.. xxP

hey dude.. .. .. ... .. what? Do I EVEN LOOK LIKE an =''Ark''= player ??? <good grief> I waste a PAGE of my life explaining the structure behind DayZ to folk who are starting up because I think it may be useful to them, and instead of actually READING it, they come back at me and make .. like .. headless chicken noises. no dude I never played =''Ark''= ... but I played REALLY a LOT of Pokemon Red on Gameboy. OK? xxP

should record some random males running 10 blocks and then use that as the male running breathing (gasping) sound .. would be loud and ugly, I guess - or reduce the female breathing volume a bit..

By "fanboys" do you mean players who like the game? - just wondering

super slow development on console ?

I was eaten by a wolf just before the update: After the update my character has same name, same gear, but a different head (lol) (& wow he is ugly!). First thing I did when I saw myself in-game - I climbed up a dockland crane and jumped off.. (wouldn't you?) - but my choice character is still listed in startup and still has an evil wrong head. If I randomize and recreate him, as I want him, he is called 'Survivor', because "the other guy with my name and the wrong head" is still listed - I can't use his (MY) avatar name to reconstruct my vital TRUE-self-avatar, because "his" play-state includes his name, even if he kills himself. So naturally I have become suicidal for the first time in 5 years of DayZ. Yoda says I am being drawn inexorably to the Dark Side (& it shows in my face), but only BI can help. So .. Is there any way to DELETE unwanted characters from the Experimental log-in avatar list? < thanx ..shudder.. twitch.. >

More Feedback when Getting Shot or Absorbing Melee Hits?
pilgrim* replied to Kynero1's topic in Xbox
Sure why not vibration in melee or zomb attacks, if BI can add that, technically. Go for it. But no death drama.. in DayZ dead means black-screen-end-of-story. You can be suddenly DEAD and Never Know Why - kind of realistic, right ?
