    A+ game!

The YetiBum is telling you that if 90% of the human race said wearing black hats is bad and ugly, then a LOT of businesses would STOP SELLING black hats. And the rest would start pinning bright-colored stuff all over the black hats they had left to sell. And hey! - you only have to look at the Games Market to see that happening - what 90% wants is what 90% gets - and hell, who cares if they change their minds next month as long as you already sold them the game? It's great if they get bored fast, then you can just sell them some other game. Lowest Common Denominator is what sells units. * I did time in PR too (digital for 01Eh years) - if BI wanted to SELL DayZ the "real game" they should start putting out ads saying : MOST OF YOU WONT LIKE THIS GAME question is - Is that a line that would work on Xbox & Playstation game buyers ?

    Status Report - 23 October 2018

SAY - Why not just call it DayZ 3.2 ? (take a hint from Microsoft - they never had any trouble with version numbers, strange names, malfunctions, fit for purpose, or random updates) problem solved ?
  5. Modders will do what thy like and players will follow them or not, as they like. BUT.. just to point out the OBVIOUS - Being in COMBAT & FIREFIGHTS five times a day is totally NOT realistic at all. Nobody seems to have checked the figures for how many firefights a foot soldier had per month during a year in Vietnam, or during the 2nd WW, or in Afghanistan on any tour of duty over the last 17 years - and those are full on real-life combat-zone situations (100% military, not civilian survivors after a disaster) Have some fun looking up the figures, IRL you are fully kitted up military and armed to the teeth, and READY FOR FPS... but MOST days in the front line you don't get to fire a shot. This has always been true, but no players are getting het up about easy FPS being UNREALISTIC in DayZ. - Why is that? - They just complain about having to eat and drink A LOT in "an FPS game" ... they don't ever complain about getting all kitted up fast and shooting each other a lot (except if their gun jams, lol). Maybe they haven't got the idea that DayZ is not an FPS game, it is just a post apocalypse survival game that has shooting in it. The five-times-a-day firefight sessions and the eating and drinking sessions are all just as unrealistic each as the other. If you're a survivor, the first thing you have to do is find drink, food, clothing, shelter, equipment to survive .. NOT go looking for FPS matches. If you don't know this then you won't like DayZ SA and you're going to complain a lot until you find a full-loadout login, small map mod - so you can deathmatch and capture the flag, and not do boring shit like learn how to make a fire or hunt for food, catch diseases or die of dehydration. But, hey, there are plenty of those easy quick FPS games around already. - just saying

    Night Time is Garbage

Weyland Yutani & -Gews- & odin_lowe are three players who have ALWAYS been with DayZ right since the start. Their opinions are ALWAYS worth listening to and thinking about. You may agree or disagree, but between them they have tens of thousands of hours in this game. They have ALWAYS been there. They have seen every change in it from the Mod to the present version. Newer players have their points of view too - that's great - but it's silly to insult any of these three players, for any reason. (hey, I wouldn't do it!) So it's a good idea to check their posts if one of them has something to say,. I always do, because whatever is in those posts is defiantly worth looking at & thinking about. Look back a their old posts, they are full of quality information and opinions about DayZ. Might even help new players to get a better grip on the game, and notice some important interesting stuff you haven't thought about before. - just saying. Put these guys on your read list. Do yourselves a favor. ENJOY xxP

    Night Time is Garbage

I think you could probably put the moon on - say - a 5 day cycle or a 10 day cycle (not 7 day, obviously) instead of the IRL 28 day cycle - so that every 10 days you had a Hunter's Moon.. with moonrise and moonset through each night keyed in to actual IRL timings (it is possible to have 2 moonrises in one night depending on seasons - night length - and orbits, for instance) ... So a realistic moon with the 28 day period speeded up to maybe 8 days (so it did not fall on the same day of the week every week, for players). DayZ is stuck in a permanent "around-summer" time-sky zone .. so variable moonlight shouldn be too difficult to fit into the same "month" as the game appears to take place in.. just speed the phases up.. (would also be great if they were predictable from one day to the next) ..just an idea. anything over half moon gives adequate light in open country (if the moon is in the sky at that time) , and leaves difficult darkness in forested areas.. and I guess most folk still know what a hunter's moon is ? Lighting in built-up areas, I'll leave to the experts on built up areas..but if you are used to street lights you ca'nt see a damn thing in the country - eg if you get out of your car and turn the headlights off.. and that is not only a-few-minutes temporary thing .. seeing at night is more a habit that you adjust to. ps - All full moons rise around the time of sunset. (we DO know this don't we folks?) OK ?
  8. sure, if you want to mod out "surviving".. why not? Could mod DayZ into the first World War western front trenches, or Stalingrad .. plenty of FPS nobody EVER eats or drinks at all.. In fact there are already a LOT of THOSE games around already. That's pretty standard in FPS. But if that's the pleasure of the modder .. I won't be criticizing. IRL water is more important - a more immediate & constant requirement - than food.. That's the way human beings are made. That seems about the same as in DayZ SA, in my experience. But of course modders will have to change stuff to suit themselves, otherwise they wont have modded anything, right? there's no reason a DayZ SA mod should be about "surviving" at all. It's just one important aspect of the game that appeals strongly to me and makes it original. Ain't that why Dean Hall made it in the first place?

    Xbox Update 24/10/2018

    1) for an indie (or anybody) to put a game out on Console .. FIRST they have to go through the WHOLE legal negotiation and presentation and the boardroom meetings & wait for the analysis and the decision on 20 different aspects of the deal, and the technical discussions, and give guarantees & sign the yards of documents with the BIG-BIG DISTRIBUTOR (ie the console companies) - That is a major undertaking for an indie. Even a big company that can totally tool up to turn out Xbox games, cant get a deal like that in a week. That's why so many Xbox games are really same-same but with different sprites and different textures.. simple ideas.. Look at PUBG compared to DayZ and see how 2-D looking and "drab" PUBG is compared to DayZ graphics, even though it's a 90% direct ripoff cut-and-pasted onto a 'Battle Royal' excuse... It's DayZ but made duller and easier to play and less hassle for short time players with short attention spans who want fast kicks and lols .. meaning it's "designed for Console players" ....(heh) ... but maybe that IS NOT what ALL Console players are looking for, not ALL the time - Only 15 million players wanted PUBG - that leaves quite a few who STILL want something 'better', deeper, more skillful, less obvious, not easier, something unique .. Sure there WON'T EVER BE 15 million DayZ players, but maybe that's WHY it's WORTH putting it on Console.. because even 'a niche minority' of console players is still a LOT of people, looking for something they haven't found on Console yet. ] 2) DayZ is really an UNUSUAL game to come out on Consoles, for plenty of reasons (like I suggested above - compare it to "normal" console games) - On DayZ the graphics are different, the gameplay is different, the complexity is higher, it uses techniques are non-standard, and a new engine that has not been tried on console before, it has a different feel, it is not simple, there is no rule about how to win, no power ups, no awards, it's a weird game - if you want it to be .. it was ALREADY a VERY unusual game on PC until imitators started turning out cheap-to-make, easy-to-play IMITATIONS.. And NOW DayZ is starting out as an unusual game on Consoles. More than half that "4 years" comes from Microsoft (and other BIG-BIG Console distributors) analyzing the changing market, charting the changing age-groups, different player styles, different interests, the changing game expectations, and finally deciding round The Big Table that a DayZ game will draw enough players to fill the MARKET HOLE left by PUBG, etc, AND sell enough copies to earn MS some kudos for innovation, AND not show up the limitations of Xbox compared to a decent PC rig, AND make Microsoft a decent profit too ! .. because "profit" is their bottom line. They designed the Xbox in the first place so THEY can control exactly the WHOLE list of what you users CAN play and what you CANT play. If a company wants to put out a game on Xbox or PlayStation they have to jump through ALL the hoops first, and not miss one, otherwise they get dumped right back in the street. Seems like NOW MS think there are enough "grown up" "thoughtful" "strange" Xbox players around that MS can start expanding away from OBVIOUS games, and add maybe a game or two that are NOT usual. They took their time deciding.. but - Hey kids!.. DAD has finally decided - some of you seem like you have brains as well as reaction-times - so tonight he's decided You CAN drive the car. !!! xxP

    Xbox Update 24/10/2018

Gamers who don't understand how a game is built have this problem: (no blame, I'm just explaining how I see it): They say - I live here on the 50th floor and I don't give a damn about the 49 floors holding me up - I just care that my windows are dirty and no one cleaned them yet, and my bedroom door sticks, and the refrigerator makes a noise". Meanwhile underneath you there's a whole team doing heavy structural work on 25 floors of the building from the foundations up - and you say: "that's real boring I don't care if those floors and walls underneath me are solid or not - I just want my windows clean so I can enjoy the view. " So the team announce "This week we just put in 800 tons of new steel girders to hold you up". And you say "to me it looks like nothing is happening".

    Xbox Update 24/10/2018

All the stuff they are doing on PC right now is in fact to get the game to fit with Xbox and work 100% correctly on Xbox. This is why on PC they stopped at 0.63, and took a couple of big jumps backwards and started testing everything in the game mechanics bit by bit. You get the basic game and at the moment AND also PC players get the basic game too - don't forget. As soon as it is tested and RUNNING on PC and they know it will also run on Xbox, then they will bring it into the official 0.63 version on PC, up to date (maybe with a new version number?) and Xbox WILL get it too. Right now, the PC standard game is about the same level as the Xbox game, a lot of stuff is missing - so don't imagine you are losing out on a bunch of stuff that we have on PC, all those standard version things we had, have been taken away - it's being revamped and debugged on stress test and experimental and when it runs as it should on Xbox, then everybody will get it in the standard game, on Xbox AND on PC too. - this is only my opinion, (but based on a fairly long observation, research & experience) - I believe it is obvious this IS what is happening. They are shaping up the existing PC game - chunk by chunk - so it runs perfectly on Xbox. And that is about ALL that is happening. Bottom line : All the effort is for your Xbox benefit. - This is really for you Xbox dudes. Plus they are working specifically focused on your "special" Xbox stuff like controllers and Xbox hardware parameters. So they will be dropping in extra "tested" features from PC every time they can. You won't have to wait any longer for the results on Xbox than we PC players do on PC. We get to play incomplete stuff and send in bug reports.. that's what most PC players are doing right now (except the modders) - read the PC blog. so right now, keep testing your controllers and putting in bug reports.. It can only help you get what you want faster.
  12. Yes, but the game's about Surviving.. if you ate once in 24 hours, then spent 23 hours lying in a field in the sun.. that would not be a fun game and it would be NO WAY difficult at all ... In a survival game you can expect the SURVIVAL to be EMPHASIZED .. otherwise it wouldn't be a survival game ... would it ? ps - water is more important than food - to live, make that your priority.

    shoot for the stars!

bullet drop ? * (ahaha - nah, just kidding. ) Put in a Bug Report if you don't see the same bug already marked up, BI team are working flat out on Xbox - they NEED to hear this stuff. As soon as they know what it is, they fix it.
  14. this is the easy way to get screenshots and photos in your posts on the DayZ blog - Probably a lot of folk know already, but it hasn't been mentioned for a while.. (at least since Xbox joined, I think) so, ya know.. go for it. xxP

well, Brian Hicks left BI at 0.63 because he had "nothing more to do" as he says himself : " I feel DayZ has reached a point in which I, much like how Dean felt years back - am no longer needed. ..// .. now that you have started to see and touch DayZ .63 " ... so I guess it's a happy ending to the thread https://dayz.com/blog/status-report-may-8-2018#/title2 xxP

    Dwindling player base already

https://steamcharts.com/app/221100#7d Was just trying some friendly conversation to make you all feel better about your lives but yeah - I guess Xbox owners count (for something) too.. sorry, dude - ya know ? A little weeny slip like ignoring Xbox could happen to anybody . Still, like the big bad BI says: its interesting to look at BOTH sided of the same game, and pick up info where you can. Folk used to be able to work out from Steam how many copies of a game Steam had sold, total. But since this year, looks like they put a stop to that. (it's all getting big business now - far too important for the players to know). * By the way - I'm JOKING about Xbox players. Just a little friendly JOKE from an old old PC dude, that's all. Would be interesting to KNOW how many copies sold, and how many players online, average.. but really.. WTH.. xxP (& please please don't chase back over to my own half of the Blog - they is all crazy as coots over thar' I swear)

That's for sure ! And not Ingmar, either. Did they smoke cigars ? * Hey, ET.. Isn't there someone else you can talk to, about radical market trends and running an enlarged private company with 350 employees against stiff competition? Thanx buddy. Say, do you know how many <programmers> BI have on their staff, worldwide, and how many individual games & platforms they are working on? Look it up, its on their site - it is important factor, don't you agree, in the context of "software development & support" ? Allocation of resources. What do you think about paid DLCs after 1.0 ? - Do BI ever do that? Pecker up! Everything you want will happen soon ! You couldn't be more sure of it, 100% and that is a very good attitude. I admire that in a man a woman or an emu or wherever it rears it's head. Tatanko & Rustycaddy (et al?) put some interesting entries on Base Building on the [fan-driven] DayZ Wiki a while ago. https://dayz.gamepedia.com/Base_Building xxp

YES !! No - it's not because you're 747 (gratz on that by the way) I went through Privateer (speech pack!!) and DarKStar One (nice simple little game) and got involved in Eve [no comment, earth slugs] avoided all star wars (I have above-average IQ) & now it "seems possible" that Star Citizen is "maybe" going to finally make it to the level of the Elite experience, <a million years later> .. er .. or not.. and HEY.. it's been in development .. since.. 2012.. !! Modern cryogenics is almost wonderful when it works. Glad I made that decision back then to put my money down for a copy of ArmA and get the DayZ Mod instead of putting it into Star Cit.. <hehehe> 2018 woopee fuckin' doo !! xxP

    It's Been 6 Years

Doesn't make any difference to BI what you play if you have ALREADY bought DayZ SA on PC ... what difference does it make now if you play ArmA 3 or an Arma3 mod, you still bought ArmA 3 first. That's what they sell. What are BI's plans to market more copies of DayZ SA ? .. seriously. they sold 3 million before Jan 2015 .. how many more do you (or they) expect to sell now? Perhaps they'll find someone who hasn't ALREADY decided if they want to buy it or not? Do you think many-many NEW never-played-before, how-much-does-it-cost, players will FIRST TIME BUY DayZ SA on PC ... to play "an amazing mod" that they hear about ? really - great optimism - but i DOUBT it.. how many times a decade do a SERIOUS NUMBER of people BUY a game deliberately so they can play a mod? .. People who ALREADY have DayZ SA (PC) will try out mods as they turn up, naturally.. but the mods wont ever become famous outside "the community" the way the ArmA DayZ Mod became famous. .. You imagine a whole bunch of players buying in SA on PC for the first time to play a mod on it ?.. I don't see that happening. * And of course, the more the already existing SA players move to a mod, the less interested it is for BI to be working on the vanilla. Why spend time & money improving the vanilla if nobody plays it? I really don't see DayZ-PC shooting up to an impressive new peak of sales at all, when mods turn up & it leaves EA. It would be nice to think so (& great to be wrong).. but.. nah, it won't happen - everyone interested has already bought it. ** At Gamescom 2014, DayZ was confirmed for the PS4 console . During E3 in 2015, the Xbox One version of the game was announced : - BI NEEDS Sales - if it doesn't sell games it can't exist.. then no more BI, no studio, no staff, no updates, no fans, no games. I DONT criticize them AT ALL for designing and working on new games for PC and console platforms (I count 7+ current marketable games and franchises ATM, others in the pipeline, leaving aside the "no income" DZ on PC). If they don't pay their staff & bring online the studios they've bought up, then they are dead. I'm not faulting them. This is bedrock Reality, right? [edit: damn, I said the same thing I said in my last post - sorry about that.. gaga from explaining how BY CHANCE BI became a BIG indie, and how dangerous that is for them ]

    Dwindling player base already

Check Steam tracker - on Saturday 13 Oct at 19:00 Central European Time (GMT + 1) the"re were ZERO DayZ players online, Worldwide. Unfortunately I logged in just too late to be the only person on the planet playing DayZ.

    It's Been 6 Years

the POINT about DayZ SA for PC is that ALL the copies that will ever be sold have ALREADY BEEN sold. ALL the PC players - who want one thing or another, mods or vanilla, etc - they are ALL HERE NOW, they ALREADY bought their copy. The FUTURE market for DayZ on PC is about close to ZERO. There will never be another generation of NEW players who BUY DayZ SA for PC. About as many new players will BUY SA on PC now as buy ArmA I... The whole player population exists already and no new folk are turning up and BI is making zero income on ANYTHING it does to DayZ-PC ever in the future. And please don't tell me 100s of newcomers will PAY for DayZ-SA on PC so they can play a new mod that someone made. That will NOT happen. The existing - <ageing> - player base HAVE BOUGHT their copies already and they will try out the mods.. some will write the mods, and some will be excited about the mods, and some will like vanilla.. But there will NEVER be more than a PEAK of 4,000 players on DayZ PC at any time, worldwide.. BI is going to introduce "exact placement" of elements so that bases can be constructed. It must do this as it has committed to introducing bases to gaming consoles, where it HOPES the market is NEW and will bring the SALES it NEEDS. It knows perfectly well that DayZ SA on PC will NOT EVER bring in any more sales. So all the folk arguing here are the old hands who already bought into DayZ PC long ago. There is NO NEW BLOOD and will not ever be. If you READ the BI prospectus you can see exactly WHAT you are going to get. If you want to know WHEN - read what is important to BI.. They plan to get the stuff that you have ALREADY seen out onto console. They need to do that to pay the rent. DayZ on PC does NOT and never will pay the rent ever again. BI have five games running, started or coming up, four studios to integrate, the console market to deal with, 350 staff to pay every day - and anything they SPEND on DayZ PC from now on is a LOSS of money. they won't sell a thousand copies in a year. Basebuilding is a form of crafting (that's all it is) PLUS ,an "exact placement" mechanism so you can fit the parts of your base together. As soon as BI has Xbox running properly, THEN they will do Basebuilding on PC and Xbox (..er.. and Playstation) And put back all the stuff you have ALREADY seen.. And that's the end of the PC story. The number of people interested in DayZ on PC in ANY form, mod or not mod - will NEVER be any more than it is now. So there's no point shouting at the other OLD players about that is there? And on PC there sure won't ever be any new ones to shout at. xxP

    Lighting

Set your GPU software back to standard - 50% - or whatever it calls itself in the "Color" settings.. male sure you have not set "Global Settings" and "Game settings" differently (and even inside "Game Settings" you may have different options for each game. Whatever ! = put them ALL on standard, middle of the slider, factory default.. ya know ? THEN 1) Set your screen back to "factory reset" 2) Go to Windows 'Display' and do the "Calibrate Color" actions from start to finish you can also find screen calibration software from folk like ADOBE if you want to check (because pros want their photos to look Right, etc.. instead of looking different on every screen that opens them - which they will anyway, but that's NOT the pro's fault) because you say "even Windows is too dark" - SO then that's where to start. Set your GPU software to <<STOP BEING CLEVER, Just shut the fuck up and ACT NORMAL, STANDARD, jeez OK?>> .. ( see if you can find the button to do this ?) then do the Windows thing. Something is messing with your SCREEN brightness (or screen gamma) , not "only" the "DayZ game brightness"... so get VDU & Windows sorted properly first. Do it by the rule book. The thing is - lots of folk (most folk, and players) just simply MESS with the different controls (any they can find) until they get something that looks OK at the MOMENT.. but if you check, it probably turns out you turned one value about 80% down, and another thing 90% UP, and then messed with your VDU settings because the room was bright, and then did clever stuff with your GPU settings because EVERYONE is REAL PROUD of their GPU so GAMERS ALWAYS MESS with their GPU .. and then your screen looked a bit bright so you turned it DOWN again, and increased the screen contrast so you could still see the icons... And you end up wit a mess that looks ok HERE AND NOW, but give it a different scene, a different game, a photo, or just windows desktop at 2am.. and folk will change "something again" .. and the result is when they load Dayz they cant see anything in broad daylight, or it welds their eyeballs to the back of their heads. So naturally they blame the game.
