Folk were ranting about BASES a WHILE back and I asked this REALLY OBVIOUS question before. Seems like no one gets the point ? In what way does "a base" help in defence against anything at all? This is a subject that has not been looked at, or answered, or questioned, or mentioned, or discussed.. what is the ADVANTAGE of "a base" in ANY kind of gameplay? Does it "lock", is it vulnerable when you are not online, does it protect you from snipers or does it make you sitting ducks? How do you get in and out? How do other players get in and out? Who does it "belong" to? - what is it FOR ? - Maybe you have bonfires and parties in there while the "enemy" gets under cover with all his weapons trained on your gate and waits for you to come out ? - Or he waits till you log out and then breaks in (or walks in) and takes all your stuff ??? Who "owns" a base ?.. Is one player the owner and permitted to log in and out inside the base, or can he "nominate" other owners who can also log in and out in there.. and can THEY nominate others or cross them off the list? Or can anyone inside that base log out and in there, just by walking through the gate into the base ? How do you "capture" a base so that it is yours and not the previous owners? - the same way you "capture" a tent ? (ie - a tent belongs to anyone who uses it, like a car).. Do you need a key or pass that you carry around in the game, so if someone kills you then can take it and get into your base? So WHAT is this imagined "engame" gameplay around bases? HOW is it different IN ANY WAY from gameplay around any standard military structure already planted in the scenery? Player walks into "your" base while you're logged off - he takes it to pieces and loads it into "your" truck, and drives off.. hmm ? Many folk are shouting "bases bases" because it sounds sooooooooo cool, .. er.. for some reason.. but THEN WHAT ?? no answer ? ANY answer ? does anyone have any clear idea of how they expect a "base" to FUNCTION ?? Or is it just a decoration for private servers ? xxP

You've been in this game - or joined this blog - for a WHOLE EIGHTEEN DAYS ?? - wow dude (and 60 posts already!) - the Stamina ! I'm impressed ! That's a HELL of a long time to WAIT.. wow that's more than TWO WEEKS !! That must be OVER Ten working Days... give them Hell, dude !!
-
they used to say the same thing about helicopters.. now, "it is every citizens right to have a car and fill it with gas" - didn't some President say that? we can give up being "hardcore" and have food handouts too.. If you want a car, go steal one.. if you want a base ( - 'because that is where the cars will be - ) then wait till the base builders log off, go in the base and dismantle it, load it in the car, and DRIVE OFF.. Make the game work for you instead of trying to play against the game. - just my opinion.. Back in the day, I never liked helicopters but I always loved tracking them and fragging them on the ground or shooting them down. If someone wants to go to all the trouble of getting a car working, then wait till they've done it, and then take it or destroy it. - Do yourself a favor.

Spawn less food, allows us to go longer without food.

1) A month without food is really pushing it, dude (don't try this at home kidz) - five days with no food and you'll have difficulty toting your military backpack and your weapons. 2) Break a leg and see if you can run a month later carrying that same gear. -

I think the opposite is true, obviously. If I go through a village I can tell who's been there by what's gone and what's been dropped (you get the feeling for it).; and I know they were there only a short time ago.. reasonable chance they are at the other end of the village right now .. and where there is one player there will be another, drawn to the same stuff. They are in front of me and/or behind me (or waiting for a casual player to run in). Looting the obvious village houses is always a stress moment, searching abandoned cars makes you an easy target, drinking and filling up your canteen at a pump you need to be seriously alert - all this is about looting and other players. Where else would you meet them? So hey, after getting watered, go hunting, don't go for PvP at a military base. if you want PvP there are plenty of games that are only "military base style" PvP - if you want chance encounters, then DayZ is the game. Surviving = looting and hunting (and farming) = that's HOW chance encounters happen. Not from anything else. That's where you get the stress and the kicks. -

What are the rules, how is their ownership listed, how do they change hands, what is their advantage, how do they work, what are they for?

In reply to Weyland Yutani: (my best shot). In MY opinion (not authoritative) - BI have complete control over their own numbering system for DayZ SA on PC.. they can just about call any version anything they like. OK. However, I BELIEVE all this Stress Testing (etc) is mainly aimed at producing a core game that fits Xbox without bugs (AND also fits PC, naturally, but the focus is on Xbox) .. that's a difficult proposition for BI because the game has to be translated to a different end-user platform which is completely rigid - not even the owners can mess with their own machines, they aren't root, Microsoft is root on their own home machine, not them. So, the "naming conventions" for PC are up to BI, totally. However on Xbox, they have an agreement with Microsoft and I am certain this includes a development track and dates. My own (personal) take on Microsoft is that they are like Mormons from an alien planet. I don't think they have much of a sense of humor, they have a hive mind probably, and I think they follow rigid rules (sorry if I offend) . So BI must produce "version numbers" and deliver product on Xbox that suits THEM. They are the Borg in this scenario. What suits MS, we players can only guess (by looking from the outside at the development history of other Xbox games) , as MS have a 'rigorous' policy of saying NOTHING about it. So BI will definitely be in a situation where they cannot mention any specific details of their agreement with MS. Including dates, versions, content. If I'm wrong, someone will say so openly. But I don't think I'm wrong. So BI can say "what they like" about the PC version, they can call releases and updates etc, except that the PC version is being FITTED into Xbox right now - and BI have a clear (binding, default) agreement to deliver DZ Xbox 1.0 on day D, with content XYZ included. - I estimate that they will certainly NOT say what date that is set for, or what will be included in that game. If we look at the effort on PC, and remember that it is focused on delivering a game fully playable on Xbox, then it is fairly easy to see where BI are headed and what will be included in DayZ Xbox 1.0. In the meantime, version numbers on PC don't really have any bearing on anything except keeping the PC fans happy. IMO. Anyone who can find a definitive Xbox release timeline will have the answers Weyland is looking for. At the moment, PC is just the place where Xbox development is taking place. - But that doesn't make the PC game any less fun. xxP ... Update: << - the Experimental BETA patch is hitting the Experimental servers (06 Nov 2018) - The current 0.63 will be moving to the default branch (what we call the Stable branch) - What's in the Experimental build now (06 Nov 2018) - is the list of items we want to hit 1.0 with. - Experimental BETA will go straight to Stable. >> ??

True - Gews is THE MAN and always has been.. Respect.

Xbox will get all the contents that PC has - you must have read that AT LEAST once - and if you've read it once you've read it 20 TIMES ... hmm? .. you can write, so I guess you can read if you bother to. Do it before you write your next header. Why start another new thread on the same old-old same-same. Do you know how to JOIN a conversation ? If you are being pimped out, mate, if I were you I'd change my trade. Enjoy. xxP

remember BI have over 300 staff spread across 5 studios in different countries now, and they have become the biggest Indy game producer worldwide.. I expect they have several projects coming along, as well as the ones that are public knowledge or already released.

wouldn't it be easier to dump Speedfan and just run your fans on max, on the server ? One less thing to worry about.
-
I don't think you can do it. You can turn it to plain text using 'format'.. and you can use the GUID to get the Steam UID .. this stuff is documented on the web and some of it on the BI technical forums, with examples and scripts .. but you cant "calculate" back from a UID to get a player name string. Correct me if I'm wrong. You can - maybe - "hold" the player name when it is entered, while the corresponding UID is calculated - and then link the name with the UID in a table of your own, so you can look it up. But I don't notice anyone doing that ATM.

what cheats are you planning ?

.. er ... you joined the blog almost 4 months ago but you are expert on "WE are five years down the road" ? Xbox players are not five years down the road, so I guess you aren't one ? Lordy - just an old PC fanboy who never had anything to contribute? But sure, maybe you've been reading the blog for all those 5 years down the road (making your mind up) and just now noticed that "things are slightly better" ? - I admire your stamina and willpower.. there were things happening a couple of years ago, you could have given your input. Think how helpful that would have been! Back then. Let me guess - you got mad about DayZ SA on PC when they blocked duping ? .. since then it' never been the same for you, right ? * I paid my money for Dayz SA just as a PAYBACK to BI and DayZ Mod for a thousand hours of enjoyment. I'd pass that same sum to any friend who needed it without thinking twice - in return for the kicks I already got from that game. I would have paid for SA even if I never played it, like buying the box DVD of a game you already enjoyed last year, just payback .. because it was a great game. I did that just from gratitude, OK? Seems fair to me. So for me, anything that has come along over the last five years since DZ Mod has been FREE, extra, NO CHARGE, do-what-you-like-with-it, and thanks for the playtime BI. Everyone has their own attitude, suggestions, and rants, and ideas, and bug-fixes, or they want their money back, or they're stuck somewhere, or their loot has been stolen, or the server closed, or their keypad is fucked up, or they find glitches, or someone used bad language, or there's no auto-run, the map's too big, someone shot them, there are no kung-fu moves in the game, no medals, no kill counts, no duping, no orbital strikes, no HELICOPTERS (omg!) do I break wind about that ? (yeah, a bit sometimes.. but I'm not wetting my underwear. Hell, I don't hardly even piss on anyone's shoes.) You're probably more used to online games where bug-fixes and game updates and new gameplay are rolled together and called "DLC"s .. makes you feel safe and warm and secure ? Really not enough exploits and meta-gamig around these days, right ? So - you got your money back on the Xbox game - good - that's your attitude, fine. Not Problem. I personally would have advised you hang on to your copy, PLAY some OTHER GAME and check this blog to see when DayZ is "worth" playing.. THEN play it on Xbox, because you already have a copy stashed. It's a pretty unusual game for (standard game) spoon-fed console players - its a pretty unusual game for PC players too.. that's why I'm here - NOT because this is my RELIGION... dude, NOBODY forces me to play. Nah, really.. I play from my own free will. Maybe consoles are "coming of age?".. Competing for the big boys now? hmm? But you managed to break out of the old evil BI Empire - That's brilliantly GOOD, well done! Be happy. Go play whatever turns you on - AND tell us what that is, just out of interest, and maybe we'll all come join you? Have a great life. Bye. p.s. We expect to see you leading the online gaming revolution in a couple of years. Don't let us down. xxP

Where did I say "everything will be just fine? " Check my posts in the past. You joined 2 months ago so you missed .. er .. "8 years" <cough> of the discussion and argument and you missed most ALL of the FACTS. Except the factoids you twist for your own purpose. Quit with the demagogue crap, you ain't no leader. You don't make it. You; dude, do 3x week Live stream with 5+ followers on Twitch & Mixer.. gimme a break. You ain't no journalist. You need content, you don't hack it. This is advice from one technically qualified, paperwork signed, time-served, specialist PR, journalist, programmer, researcher, gamer and writer, speaking to ... a hopeful journalist/streamer - What I said is << You rant shows GREAT IGNORANCE - Learn To READ >> Jeez Criz man, a baseline rule is - If you Don't Know, Admit it or Don't Let it Show xxP

This is what DayZ should look like closing up to 1.0

well .. long long ago and far far away - Disney started making Star Wars films. - so I guess Evil Exists. -
Research firm IHS Markit estimated 39.1 million Xbox One were sold by the end of March 2018. PlayStation has sold 'considerably' more than that (which is a possible reason MS has stopped releasing their own sales figures). So for PlayStation & Xbox we are looking at a buyer pool of AT LEAST 80-100 million already, today. These people are BUYING GAMES. With DayZ already available on PC for several years, it is not too difficult to predict future PC sales (best case, worst case) at 1.0. You or I can check that ourselves in 15 mins, its not rocket science (I already did it.. did you?) - The focus of development interest and possible sales is on Console DayZ - How could it be otherwise? You want a solution that makes BI go broke? (shoot themselves in the head?) This MARKET PREDICTION is obvious and I think it covers the full explanation, the mechanics, the bottom line, the development, & the how, when, why, of your subject. Sure, dude - I'm a PC player too.."DayZ is a lot about choices" = Right. Check the Xbox topics and content here on this blog, compared to the PC topics.. do a head count. Survey, what choices are most players shouting for?

Hey DXMIMZY friend - nearly EVERY statement of FACT you make there is FALSE.. you ought to get you FACTS straight before you start proposing solutions and rabble rousing - starting with the size of BI and going on from there.. if you spent ten minutes checking you could easily find that BI has above 300 employees across 5 studios and is currently the largest Indie game maker (and producer) on the planet - so there doesn't seem much point in talking through WHAT'S HAPPENING with someone like yourself who invents history from rag-picking and licking at the chewed-over scatter of upchucked half-digested gossip and rumor. You don't even understand the slanders, the supporters, the company, the "fanboys" the history (wow - you know nothing) .. Get your FACTS right first, dude, then come back and discuss them. Nice try, but your rant scores VERY low. You got all your facts wrong, starting with the guff about Bohemia Interactive staff and Blue Hole studio and going on from there .. Don't go into politics you wont make it. Do some research. Then come back and make your point. THEN lay down your facts and make your criticism. Try reading back through this blog - Everything you got FACTUALLY WRONG is already stated here correctly in black and white by several players with different points of view, as well as BI staff. Organize your brain, line up your FACTS - THEN you can agree or disagree and make your point. Read and learn. Do some research <good grief>. xxp

On PC the stars are definitely there for navigation.. not all of them, and the magnitudes are kind of half-hearted - but there is the Plough (the Big Dipper) and you can use it to locate the Pole Star (like we've been doing for thousands of years - and that is not a 'bright' star IRL) , so who needs the rest of the sky to be completely detailed if you can spot Polaris without mistake? Like in real life you have to be in the right position, and look around to orient yourself, the Pole star and specially the Plough pointer stars (Merak, Dubhe) can be pretty low down and often hidden by trees or hills.. But once you spot North you can sure move in straight lines quickly through any kind of terrain in very poor ground visibility. . - just don't fall off any rocks in the dark.- Orienting yourself as soon as you land in the night game gets to be an easy habit. If you find yourself under a black midnight storm in torrential rain .. then you have to think of other ways to do it. (Survival is just hell, ain't it.) A fun thing to do is just cross the map in the dark on foot. Go from South to North all the way, or from East to West all the way. as you like (or diagonally corner to corner) .. See what happens to ya.. its quite a good thing to do, you won't feel like you wasted a session. for sure. xxP

<< having a specific, locked feature set for 1.0 is essential in order to establish a stable game/platform we've now reached a point where we have the core set of features that make the core DayZ gameplay, and that's why the line has been drawn 1.0 with this feature set, and proper amount of bug fixes and stability, will be the best DayZ we delivered to date + modding support. That alone makes it worth a 1.0 release >> 1.0 has to appear on PC and Xbox at 'the same time'.. They are doing all this stuff to PC right now so that the game - previously long-developed for PC - WILL FIT to Xbox on a 1-for-1 "same-same" basis.. It cant be released as 1.0 on PC until that version translates exactly to Xbox. Then they both go out as 1.0 together (synchronized, anyway..) In addition they have to have the Xbox controller and Xbox server stuff sorted out perfectly. DayZ - the version for everybody - has to fit into an Inflexible Microsoft Designer-Box THEN (- ONLY THEN - ) they can plug the reshaped ready-for-PC = ready-for-Xbox 1.0.. directly in to both. I guess you can't announce 1.0 on Xbox and still call it "early access" - right? <<Early access to DayZ 1.0 >> ?? .. Nah.. IMO they will add on "exact object placement" and once the root game is working smoothly for Xbox, they should fairly easily re-introduce all the items/crafting combinations already present in 0.62 - and that will be DayZ-PC 1.0
