Try shooting someone from the side through the jaw (teeth) .. that should miss the "brain" I guess.. ? Another thing I notice, is there SEEMS no way of knowing if you have been hit in the left shoulder, wrist or arm - or right leg, foot - or butt.. unless you get a "broken leg" (shock in lower half of body) any of those count as a bleeding wound, without knowing where it is ... I guess shooting someone sideways through the jaw should be the same.. - that is definitely not a brain/spine-stem hit. but all I was claiming is that the standard shooting-range human target - marking head area & body core - is good enough. Anything outside those 2 key zones should not kill a healthy player (like hits to the foot for instance) however many they take until they bleed out. The idea of the "vital areas" - was to avoid killing someone by shooting their foot, or so you couldn't kill them if you hit their elbow glitching through a wall.. that's how I understand it. * Just - it's kind of odd that you're HIT but no one knows where (not even you) if you've taken a bullet in your right shoulder, or your left hand, or lower groin, or if it went through your buttocks, or it took your nose off - but really, no problem .. is NOT problem.. I don't expect field surgery to be specialized in DayZ anytime soon .. didn't aim to start an argument - You either "bandage" the dude or you don't, so who cares WHERE ? Makes no difference - & Splints always go on the LEGS because you cant break an ARM. - that's ok. Makes life easier for the medics and the shooters. I guess this is why the police and military all use those standard < Head/Body Core > targets in the first place.
-
yes - I think the vital organs are just one zone .. might be a funny 3D shape, but I don't think a hit to the spleen is different to a hit to the liver or the lung, kidney, or heart. Call it "body core" ... No message comes back to local telling you which organ was hit (except "brain" hit = headshot ). It's fine if I'm wrong, got no axe to grind.. but I don't think a shot though the heart "exists" as a separate unique hit registration. I will definitely check out his video though if I can - not seen it. He talks plenty sense. thanx

This is interesting - if you are into development, background, company dynamics, Indies, or games - Because BI has never (NEVER) run it's own servers for it's own games up UNTIL NOW .. correct me if I'm wrong. (just one or two for testing, that's all) So = Totally new development here.K DayZ on PC was a "franchise" given out to a small SELECTED group of Server Providers specializing in games (in fact they are server sub-letters, but leave that aside). The deal was that these SPs had the right to sell DayZ instances to punters, keys in hand, on condition that they put up a number of DayZ instances at their own cost, on the basis of 1 "free public" server for every "x" servers they hired out. OK? The DayZ instances hired out to the paying gamers by the agreed SPs could either be "private shard" or they could be public hive (your choice.. private shard is slightly more expensive). The Hive is run by BI, but the servers were never run by BI. Problems that came up were : - many complaints about actions in DayZ games (bad admins, etc) were directed to BI, but BI had NO presence on those servers, does not own them or run them, could not intervene in them directly, and gameplay complaints (sometimes there were plenty) had to go to the SPs. But SPs are mainly very small organizations (some have just 3 staff, seriously) and they REALLY do NOT get involved with what happens on ONE server instance when they are running (automatically) about 150 games, each with 100 or 500 instances. Some SPs have ONE technician, ya know? He's not going to oversee what happens in 15000+ games worldwide. He deals mainly with hiring space and auto-installing DayZ and 100 other name games and making sure the company banking software is up to date. - the SPs had an obligation to provide "open" servers for each set of x servers they had hired out. However, they were (when it suited them) using ANY spare server instances that happened to be around.. Like, if the SP opens (hires) server space in Australia and loads 5 examples of DayZ in there, they maybe hire out 3 this week, so the 2 spare the SP can count as "open" servers to keep the agreement with BI. - BUT then that SP hires out another DayZ inst. in Australia.. so there's only one "open public" server there, but it doesn't matter (to the SP) because someone stopped hiring a server instance from them in England.. so they leave THAT running empty, and they still have the same NUMBER of open servers and their agreement with BI still holds. It's just a BIG pisser for players in Australia who find their fave open server has just vanished.. if they go to the same address it's now private, or a clan server, or gone, so they cant play there anymore, suddenly. And when persistence got started, this became a <<bad>> situation. Not just your stuff, sometimes the whole public server vanished. Plenty of complaints, to SPs, who didn't care (just about) and hadn't got the infrastructure even to try to care, and plenty complaints to BI, who had already signed the deal with the SPs and had no direct say, and no access to the game instances any more than anyone else. OK.. so, ya know.. there was a lot of discussion and some emotions (and stuff behind the scenes) .. it's all in this blog if you look.. you can see how it worked out (.. IF you look). * BUT now we start a new chapter.. Maybe because of the agreement with MEGASOFT or maybe partly because of the experience with SPs (as above) or maybe because they have GROWN in size a lot ?? .. NOW "we hear" BI is running it's own DayZ server instances (hired, obviously) WORLDWIDE - loading up 100s of DayZ instances for Xbox players at it's own expense? ... (interesting?) That must be QUITE a few servers around the planet. Is this temporary (expensive .. but temporary) - or is BI moving into Game Server Provider Territory to become it's own SP? I really don't think they've ever been there before. If you ARE interested you can track back the addresses of the DZ Xbox games and see what server centers are subletting space, and maybe crosscheck to see who else has gaming space in nearby blocks .. ya know, do all that stuff.. and find out if BI is hiring direct from server centers, or is hiring from an existing SP.. (eg, Microsoft have server centers too, ya know).. But now you see the shape of it, I'll leave that to someone with a keener interest than me, right now. I have other more fascinating stuff to do. How an Indy develops and the moves they make, are just a hobby. But, what is REALLY happening with BI-Xbox looks KEY for future BI plans & development - to me -.. just me IMO on the other hand - the YetiBum knows already, he says.. xxP Enjoy -

OK .. Dean Hall is NOT with BI, he left BI quite a while ago, and Dean Hall is NOT developing DayZ Standalone and BI HAVE the rights to DZ SA ( Dean Hall does NOT). DayZ SA is developed 100% by BI's full-time staff. BI have about 300 staff now (mainly technical) across 5 studios. BI are the biggest Indy game Developer on the planet (right now) and they also Produce their own games. -

No need to be offensive, dude, you got your facts mixed up. Check reality. 26 posts in 9 days ?? ... but you don't know where Dean is, how long ago he left BI, and you've << been waiting for years for this dev team to get its act together. Its too bad BI didn't have the rights to just take it and put a professional team on it. >> ?? {sigh} Best thing to do is Enjoy - also read the blog when you're not playing: catch up on stuff ? -

This is true - they spawn on ANY footpath as long as it is not a road or wide track.. follow the path for 5 or 10 mins max and you will find one or two. Around the coasts and outside towns or between villages and farms the paths are sometimes not blindingly easy to see when they are on open ground and not through trees. You might not notice them, especially if you stick to the roads. The paths are supposed to be marked, but it's generally easier and quicker to find the path than find the marker, IMO -
yeah - they don't really act like .. "human beings" .. do they ?? - Maybe the back-story is a sham ? They just call them "zombies" to make you feel safe.

The king is dead .. there will be a delay before the coronation while we locate the king. Reports that the heir to the throne is in hiding are false. Do not be alarmed by sounds of fighting reported from the palace, this is the cleaning staff. Meantime, here is some easy-listening music. Stay tuned !

Let us organize our inventories without taking off our clothing

It used to be that any damage to your backpack was inflicted (counted) starting at the top left and going in rows across the top, and then row by row down to finish at the bottom right. Damage is counted on the first object in that grid, then the second, ec.. So you always put less-useful stuff in the top of your backpack, or at the top left. Then after a fight, that stuff would be damaged first and your more useful gear would stand a better chance of being OK. So, something big, taking up spaces from the top to the bottom inside your pack, if you wanted to give it more protection you'd put on the right hand side, and put a couple of beanz or some meat in the top left.. anything you think is not important, OK ? that helps soak up any damage. - Don't keep your bandages there, for instance. Is that how the damage system still works? or not? -
that's it - you HIT it, Cold ... you may be in a minority, but who CARES, and you will know each other when you meet.. if you have BEEN THERE you know it.. and strangely they are all INDIVIDUAL people of different ages and lives, different aims, different ways of playing.. but you can spot them. And BI are an unusual Indy for several reasons - and they ATTRACT 'unusual' players. Good to hear you got on the wavelength. Live till you die, dude. Enjoy.

At the moment it is not. SANDWICHES in the game have NEVER been discussed in DayZ development meetings. Making BREAD has never been discussed in DayZ development meetings. Milking cows has never been discussed in DayZ development meetings. Cheese-making equipment, or tins of cheese, or packs of sliced bread have NOT been suggested. NONE of these subjects have EVER been mentioned not even ONE time - not even in notes that did not make it to discussion. OK ? - But keep on fighting for these things; perhaps you can get an action group motivated to put pressure on BI. At present there are ZERO plans for these developments after 1.0 = [ I have a inside contact and a team of expert analysts on this ] = xxP

keep your loot in in a tent or barrel.. hide them use several if you want to collect a lot of loot (if that's your aim in the game). Take a tip from PC players, they have been doing this for a long time, and still do. Bases are a new development on PC and xbox.. But PC players have been looting, using tents and barrels, and some have been hording PLENTY of loot for ages, on private AND on public servers. it's part of the game.. there are smart ways of playing and dumb ways of playing. Xbox and PC players will see SOON find out BI ontend to do with bases - their functions and utility will be established. Then we can decide HOW to play them. At the moment, stashing your pile of loot in a base is exactly like gearing up and swimming out to sea until you drown - when you've done it a couple of time, it gets boring.. right? .. <duh> So use tents, they are pretty easy to hide - there is plenty of country available. Use bases as decoys, or don't build them (who told you players HAVE to build bases?) Smart players do the unexpected and get more out of the game and do better than dumb players. Learn to play the game that EXISTS, if you try to play TODAY what is in your heads right NOW but not in the game yet - it won't work but it WILL get boring. Guess that's true of EVERY game ? Tents are in the game, for instance, but lack of imagination & boredom are not in the game - you have to bring those yourself. Do a search for "bases" across this whole blog (All Content = 11028 hits). Not only Xbox players are discussing bases - Everything said in this thread has already been proposed.Join the discussion instead of starting another 'boring' thread. A short attention span will not help you in DayZ.

Right - mainstream is for the WEAK

(bent.toe read) How LONG do YOU EXPECT building a Base to TAKE ?? .. please give an answer in hours/minutes of Game-Time - this is a serious question. Thanx. Start with a tent, dummy. Start with EVEN two tents in different places - in case one is found. Will take you a WHILE to set that up.. but it PAYS OFF (brain beats muscle, right? ). Tents are easy to HIDE and you can keep all kinds of stuff in them as you collect gear. - Things you might need to repair CARS - Things you might need to help out YOUR FRIENDS or THROW PARTIES - Things you might need to build a BASE - Things you might need to SURVIVE - Things you might need to RE-EQUIP if you get KILLED Tents and barrels are great for storing stuff if you want to IMPLEMENT any long term plan (e.g. like farming or building a base) . Even the boot of a car is a useful stash if you can hide the car in a good place. * Building a base is NOT THE START of the game.. You ain't supposed to go from scratch to finish in a few HOURS. In fact do WHAT the HELL you like, it's your game-play.. but DayZ is NOT a BASE-BUILDING Game. xxP

great to hear it - good luck - do what you feel. Enjoy. xxP

"no message received" means your server has ALREADY shut down ( .. unless the mice are eating your ethernet cable, OK? ). you are still 'playing' on your home machine - but anything you do for the several seconds during the "no message received" and for a couple of seconds BEFORE it - will NOT be recorded on the server. When you log back in you will find yourself back at the point BEFORE that message started. So - If you drop something on the ground, and start to exchange gear from pocket to backpack.. then you notice the "no message received" .. this means that when you log back in after the server restart, whatever was RECORDED as being carried - before that message started - will be still in your gear - anything recorded as dropped on the ground will have despawned - even if you picked it up during the "no message received" warning. If you run, or do anything while that message is up, you'll find yourself BACK where you were before you did that stuff, when you log back in.. This has ALWAYS been how it works. When the server goes down, there is a second or so before the "no message received" comes up.. because it takes a couple of seconds for your home machine to decide it is out of contact. So any objects, items, you left on the ground THEN, will be despawned when the server restarts. Tents & stuff you carry and barrels & cars & bases (and those contents) should NOT despawn.. but anything ELSE you are putting down, picking up, looting, crafting, etc.. will go back to wherever they were and whatever state they were in when your home machine lost contact with the server. So any ordinary objects on the ground at THAT moment (logs, nails, weapon, boots, planks, bow, jacket, hammer, dead cow, whatever) - they won't be there anymore. And if you just keep driving through that message, you might have to look for your car a mile back down the road, maybe - a well-run server will give you a 5 minute and a 1 minute warning before it closes down. xxP

If you are stuck in some strange place.. try This was always the standard way of getting reset from "stuck in a crazy place cant get out" - guess it still works for everybody ? - One way to find out.. ! - to make a bug report you have to make yourself a password to sign in there, it's not the same password as you use here. * if you want a map try this - I don't know how out of date it is ?? - but you can use it to find your way around fairly well, I guess http://www.dayztv.com/map/#5.011.032 also for other in-game info : https://dayz.gamepedia.com/DayZ_Standalone_Wiki both these sites are from the days (not long ago) when DayZ was advancing in a straight line.. Now since Xbox and PC Stress Test.. (last few months) things have started temporarily going in all directions, so use this info with discretion. enjoy.
