going for full mil gear is totally uncool in DayZ - it's suckerbait (just saying)
-
I just heard this: << teams are fine for action titles but when its a concept piece, a bit of solo madness is what you need >> Does this fit the discussion or am I on the wrong thread?

the server will respawn an item so that the total NUMBER on the server varies at random between <min> and <max>. ie it will try to keep the number of that item on the server between those two figures - but NOT counting what is being carried by players or is stashed. There are situations where items remaining between <min> & <max> cant happen, in fact - (you can figure them) , but this is the aim of the CLE for "one item" BUT I think there are categories of items, not every single different item has it's own specific <min> & <max> Categories work in the same way that loot spawn-location lists work.. at a given location only <list X> will spawn.. this is why mil tents don't spawn sacks of rice and sheds don't spawn AKMs. mil is list X, sheds are list Z .. Spawn maps used to be available but are now outdated. Some lists overlap. Some locations spawn more than one list. Only one item from a list is chosen - at random - at one spawn point, when a spawn is required. There can be several spawn points in one location (one small area) .. they CAN include different lists. <but we all know pretty much which list appears in which location>. So there are already TWO random factors operating for each individual item spawn. . If you then have players who choose what they want and leave what they don't want - and some things they use, some things they keep, some they move off server - then what "actually appears" and is on the ground when you turn up in a given spawn location, becomes complex. Because the server knows the total number of item XXX on a server, then it doesn't need a TIMER to give "spawn times" .. It only requires a spawn check somewhere in the server click list (the sequential list of things the server does "all the time" ). You only (might) need a TIME variable for spawning wolf packs, crash sites, cows .. ya know? - those things.. * [this is OLD info so if i'm outdated put me straight. thanx. No prob.]

tell it like it is - Sorry Civilization didn't MAKE IT

a Tracy-Widom distribution ?? re : the appearance of "patterns" (that actually do exist) in randomness Even though humans see complex patterns showing non-random "design" - where the designs do not exist (look it up, but avoid the math?) heres's an easy one.. the guy - link below - may seem easy going, but if you check the heavy mathematicians pages, you'll find his name in the middle of this subject. Look at the figure at the bottom of his page and tell me its NOT randomly generated? https://kaw.wallenberg.org/en/research/quest-random-patterns hard to believe, hu?

cant you just use the lowest ping list and SEE the first server with space ? As soon as you are in the game you will to have to make constant multiple complex decisions a lot more difficult than that - unfortunately - all by yourself.. without a "win firefight" or "find food" button..
-
How about - climb on the roof WITHOUT any fancy military gear - would that work ?
-
Should we call in X-men, S.H.I.E.L.D, the Silver Surfer, or are you more a Tony Stark fan ? - who's got the BEST tech to fix it IMMEDIATELY ?

when a player logs out his coordinates are saved with him .. that's where to get them

Yes I understand. The standard DayZ instance-level Persistence, that we have all been playing for a long time, is ATM <recently> broken in the server instance code, private or community, private shard/public shard = same same.. This is happening inside the server instance. Its the kind of event at a release 1.0 that could be described as <<seriously and deeply unfortunate>> if you wanted to be polite. Apart from BI devs working to sort it out .. their ONLY other option is to commit Seppuku on Youtube. But that's illegal now - wow - how times change! p.s. Has anyone noticed if this is happening on all GSP server platform versions, or just some of them? Is there anywhere this doesn NOT happen, as far as anyone can tell?
-
How many staff would it take to make regular manual back ups of all the official servers around the world 24/7 ?? How many backups? BI suggest a band-aid fix for private owners who want to try it, & have the time. << Persistence IS BROKEN, try a manual fix ( if you want to ) >> And YES.. PERSISTANCE = bad bad.. eno got that right Evil Exists

Finally I have a base raid tale to tell.....

sounds ethical cut the tree down -
It took you 5 years to walk down a flight of stairs ? = gratz = <I mean gratz to the guy who waited 5 years for you to come downstairs>

yeah .. what did you say your name was ?

Don't eat the underwear it's not good for you.

try to stay civilized mate.. thanx.. so you've been in surface darkness (in a forest) so dark that you couldn't see your hand until you touched your face with it. Great. That must have been an interesting experience. Please don't tell me that happens to you often, I won't believe you - unless you have defective eyesight - in which case I apologize for belittling you. - I'm speaking of normal human eyesight in even extreme surface conditions on this planet. I don't have any urge to thump my chest, friend, I'm not trying to impress. I've been an adult for over 40 years so I was probably cave-diving before you were born. But I gave that up a LONG time ago, I only do easy stuff now - really, I'm at peace with myself and who needs the stress ? So is this conversation about DayZ and night-vision or not?
-
[sigh] bug free and playable without wasting time on content and difficulty level? - wow, that's what you said the first time too.
-
meanwhile, can we get back to discussing "orthogonal" please ? - which I take to mean <perpendicularity to the linear algebra of bilinear forms> and so not "a herring" as semantically, prima facie, these are different parts of speech. thanx
-
Can't you dig for them ?
-
yes - private company.. but in practice a "one-person-owner" CANT MAKE the decisions - I mean can't "structure" them. The One Boss can CALL them, but there have to be meetings, deals, discussions of possibilities, plan outlines and alternatives, advice, strategy planning, DISAGREEMENT.. And add to that internal stuff, the outside companies.. Content Providers, Steam, the GSPs, Microsoft.. We have SEEN clear evidence of a MESS BI walked into unexpectedly when it franchised the game to specific GSPs, via Steam, and THEN introduced Persistence.. which was NOT on the agenda of the GSPs, did NOT fit into their method of setting up and hiring out (and pricing) DayZ instances.. and cause a few months of problems and negotiations.. chaos on the blog over public servers vanishing and changing IP numbers, becoming private, becoming shard, becoming whitelist.. just because the GSPs had one expectation and methodology and BI had another and nobody foresaw the problem when they wrote out the legal deal.. (there was a HOLE in it) That happened, I was there - I wrote (effing) ESSAYS on it.. eventually after ..er.. "several" ..MONTHS it was sorted but ONLY after the people/companies concerned went back to the table and SORTED it.. I can still find on this blog th 5 thousand complaints and the players who swore they'd never come back, AND the ones who had been there from the start and DID NOT come back.. and maybe even one or two of the Blog Moderators ( hmm ?) And during this time period BI ABSORBED 4 studios that were independents job-working for them, they bought them in, they are now BI..BUT have to be integrated.. AND they also started a deal with Microsoft.. AND the DayZ Development team changed - I would say radically, for reasons that "key" outgoing BI team execs expressed in their own words. So - meetings and negotiations there definitely WERE, and ARE.. BI is in a strange place - it has become the biggest Indy (employer) in the world in just 5 years.. Its too big (but nah, nothing is REALLY too big) and too UNORTHODOX and has too much of its own ATTITUDE to be snapped up by one of the giants - <<"how much is it worth.?.OK we'll give you TEN times that in cash, what do you say..??">> Happened many times. I don't think BI will do that, but they have to MOVE forward.. they are "small" in THAT ocean, thy are in the BIG league (billion-WORLD-sales) and you can't stay in the same place = you go up or you go down ("That IS the LaaaaaaWWWWW " [Judge Dredd] ). So there ARE DEFINITELY NEGOTIATIONS, AGREEMENTS, TALKS, DEALS, TIMETABLES taking place now. You vcan see how development has shifted into "controlled panic".. NOT because of anything technically deadly - except that they are Under Abnormal Pressure.. THAT comes from outside the team, and part comes from outside BI (and I don't mean the players).. this is business .. This is totally MY OWN opinion. I'm not sure not giving away any trade secrets because I don't know anything, except what Ive researched myself in the public domain. xxP

No, in fact you and bent.toe are wrong about this. Totally. Sorry, it's an easy mistake to make, but this is not how CLE works at all. Simple : If there are 100 cans of beans scattered across a square kilometer, they will NOT EVER be evenly spaced.. Really random statistical distributions do not produce order, only imaginary order - and the CLE is far from random in a dozen different ways. It creates realistic possibilities but the spawn of any single object at any given time is statistical, and can't be predicted except statistically. (like throwing a dice, dude). If your theory was correct, the more kitchen knives you collected the easier it would be to find kitchen knives, right ? so try it. How many kitchen knives do you have to have in your gear before you find kitchen knives everywhere ? You and bent.toe are deluding yourselves. And sure, there are odd coincidences.. that's how fairly complex mathematical distributions work. There are odds. There are flukes. There are runs of luck and bad luck. Different spawn points have different distributions of different sub categories of loot. Some places some items will spawn and other items will never spawn there , however long you wait. That's it dude, CLE. Work out how many times you find apples in orchards compared to how many times you find pears? Why is that ?? = CLE = You ever find kitchen knives in orchards? hmm ?

Yep - if its not in your container anymore.. its just loot <<lying around>> (kind of 'thrown away') .. same as if you leave stuff on the ground a server and log out.. dont <<expect>> it be there when you come back. If it's in your tent or barrel its fine, but if someone destroys the tent, then the loot is just "loose" and it will despawn at the current rate for that item. Also if you pick up something and drop it, it will despawn quicker than something that you don't touch and leave lying in place.. (I'm pretty sure - try it sometime) ). Nothing should despawn while you're standing next to it.. but walk away and come back after a while, see what's left.... If the sever notices there are too many fire axes "lying around".. it will get rid of the extra ones quicker than something that there are only a few loose on the server.. depends what the set "average number" is for that server. So if you leave stuff around, it will go "sooner" or "later" depending what's going on across the server.. Only special player-related items (the different kinds of player stashes) have FIXED lifetimes.

Central Loot Economy - how it works (not simple) Dancing Russian Man quotes from the wiki.. I passed it on from him ..It's been talked about here on the Xbox forum a few times, and discussed on the Development & PC forums plenty times. BI devs can change items and spawn rates and total quantities and locations for each item of loot or type of loot ( and they have done fairly often in the past,.. and they still do now ) to produce different effects, to produce a certain balance, to set different weightings, tty out different scarcities, make some locations less crowded or attract players to other areas.. add more of one item or less of another.. A change made to the CLE appears on all the vanilla servers at the same time. https://dayz.gamepedia.com/Loot#Central_Loot_Economy Central Loot Economy << The Central Loot Economy (often abbreviated "CLE") is DayZ's unique management system for loot spawning and clean-up. It is a complex system of tags, categories, zones, maximums, minimums, averages, and so on. The CLE dictates exactly how many of each item can be present on a single instance of the game at a time (one server), with important factors like randomization and rarity baked in. These values can be adjusted at any time, without requiring players or servers to install a game update. In addition to controlling how much of each item is present, it also "cleans up" the map by removing items which have become ruined or which have gone untouched for a set amount of time. This function prevents the game from becoming cluttered with useless items, serves players with a continually refreshed pool of available gear, acts as one method of preventing individual players from having too much influence over the entire server's economy. For more information about how long items (e.g. tents) stay in place without activity, please see the table below for Persistence. >> Gear that you carry on you, or gear you store in one of your storage places - does NOT count in the total spawn/despawn for that item of loot that can be on the sever at one time. (So for instance this is how come a player can have 8 tents full of AKMs).

<duh> right Remember, bent.toe is the player who says he'd rather kill himself and respawn than make a splint. He was just boasting about it 2 days ago.

Hi, were you talking? Sorry to interrupt wont do it again unless I feel like it. Do you even understand what I'm talking about?
