    Experimental Update 1.05

True HDDs do need defragging. It makes a difference. - but you can set them to autodefrag, so they do it while the computer is quiet.. this works pretty well. But if you LIKE a game.. you are a FAN of DayZ - then leave win OS on your HDD and put ALL the gamefiles, the launch, your personal directory DayZ files (relocate them) , and the windows pagefile.sys on a little SSD. That's not a big expense. .. game will run faster and smoother. With your pagefile on the SSD windows will run faster too - if you notice it.

    Land Mine Persistence?

Hell, who wants to know how to dupe anyway, or if it exists a lot, easy, or a little, or not.. what's the point ? There are plenty of games to cheat in. It's not really a very interesting thing to do is it, kidz? = Pay for a game so you can cheat in it. Strange.. also sad, pathetic and boring.. why bother ? Play with yourselves instead, it's cheaper.

Does << Steam ... pelikieltojen historiassa >> in Finnish mean " ... history of game bans " ?? or have I got that backwards. If so very sorry, what DOES it mean ? - thanx

I am masochist and I play DayZ

Yes, most of the bugs - you can learn your way around. I avoid cars and bases except as honey traps so I can lie up and shoot the suckers who mess with them. Stay solo, stay on the move, learn the bugs learn the map. Good game.

    Experimental Update 1.05

Def, if you have nothing on your head you will get damp, wet, soaked ... Quickest way to dry is build a fire from sticks in the shelter of a tree, strip and drop ALL your clothing on the ground (not on the fire!) keep putting sticks on the fire until YOU are DRY, put on all your gear - your gear is dry too as soon as your body is dry. Or go upstairs in a house (to be safe) drop all your clothes - run with your head facing into a corner non-stop until you are dry. Your gear will be dry too. If someone catches you butt-naked and acting strange: you have a new problem. xxp

    Secured base building?

Yes, I agree 1000%. For me a base is like helicopters used to be in the older DayZ .. I hunt them. Get a good overview of the base from some cover - see who turns up, especially if they only have one entry, then they're trapped in there like fish in a barrel. This is the one DayZ use for bases I've found, but it works and it's fun and interesting. I only need a decent hunting rifle. xxp

    Secured base building?

suddenly we get "bases" - lots of folk shouted for them, without considering how they would work in the game - ATM bases are long to build, not much use, and very easy to destroy.. BUT if you made them "safe" or seriously hard to destroy or had "invulnerable" stashes in them, then only clans would be able to have the advantage of them (the Rust problem) and a clan (just a few players) with an "almost invulnerable" base would stash it full of mil gear, kill all the new spawns, and go play Rust Call of Duty Style again, with the next base .. Respawn, run back to your base to tool up (invulnerable) and go fight again. (or respawn inside YOUR base? - THAT'S been suggested too.. read the forum) So the newspawns and the single players wouldn't stand much of a chance at all. They'd be dead before they could nail two planks together (hell, they'd be dead on the beach before they found a box of nails) So how to balance bases so that they are useful but NOT invulnerable? Can only the base owners can spawn in to that base? - to do that do you need a list of owners? (so who decides what that is?). Is one player the owner and that player can invite different players to join the "owner list" ? Do you have an in-game KEY you carry around with you, so the owner can get into the "safe" / or "almost invulnerable" base? - Then if someone kills you can they TAKE the key and get into the base? Or if you kill the owner then is the base yours? (like IRL) .. Or when a base is built and "safe" it belongs to one player for EVER, however many times the player is killed? Or if nobody goes back to it for 21 days is it "empty" and can anyone "own" it? Only owners can respawn inside their base? Only owners can log in/out inside the base? Is it easier to destroy or dismantle from the inside than from the outside? Can enemy players SNEAK in? Can they walk in if the door is open and lock it from inside? Is it THEIR base then, not yours anymore? = Stuff like that = How to make it NOT a HUGE advantage - otherwise 5 players in a base can live forever and don't give a damn if they are shot, and they are back tooled up in 5 mins EVERY TIME and everyone else outside is pwned totally. BUT then how do you still make bases WORTH building at all, and not just something that the first guy with an axe can destroy when you're offline. ?? IMO it's very difficult and takes SEVERAL different FUNCTIONS and gameplay ELEMENTS - to find that GOOD balance between TOO POWERFUL (that would totally wreck the game) and USELESS (because if bases are useless, then what's the point?) Make all servers private, then you can build a sweet base for ALL your buddies ?? (that's already been suggested too).. Check back through this forum Lots of folk shouted for bases - but they didn't think TECHNICALLY at all about HOW bases can fit into the game. Having your cool-selfish-safe base that wrecks the game for fresh spawns or newcomers means that no other players will want to hang out on that server.. why should they bother? You have all the gear stashed in your "safe" base.. and unless you have built your "safe" base before anyone else, then YOU will have a wrecked game where some bunch ALREADY in a base can do what they like to YOU when you log in to that server and REALLY you can't touch them at all .. what's the point of hanging around? People now are saying they want "safe" bases, and "safe" stashes in bases - in DayZ that will NOT WORK, I swear - that will change DayZ completely into another game. = A Rust-like. who needs that? how do you make your bases "semi-safe" and NOT "eternal" ?? So that they WORK in the DayZ game and don't just bring the whole game to a stupid dead end ?? - so what do you suggest?

PC Server Reassignment on September 2nd

my crazy wild guess is .. it involves GameServers 🙂
  11. LOT of valid and interesting stuff in this @jamie.loupost - worth reading in detail.. I'm going to read it through again and think about it.. Yeah j.l - I miss it too.
  12. - not decaying.. just BODIES In the "old" game - players who died stayed lying where they dropped for a LONG time.. (they die from gunshot, they die from starvation or a fall, no difference, the body lay there where it fell, it would still be there in an hour, or back in the "really old" days, it would be there until reset??) - And when a player died there was a buzzing flies sound located on their body - so if , say, you're running up the coast road, out in the grass by the railtrack you heat a half distant flies buzzing.. THAT can only mean one thing - you go look and follow the sound - you find a player lying there half geared with a backpack and an axe in good condition (so it wasn't zombies got hil) maybe the poor dude ran out of water or he got sick from something and he made it to here before he dropped - OR on the main road through th cillage you see two dead players lying out in the street.. ok this could have been hours ago, but those payers were sniped or shot as they were passing through - is it worth checking the bodies.. from a distance one of them looks pretty geared up.. or is someone waiting at a window for you to come look ?? So player bodies that stayed in the game for a GOOD period of time added REALLY Enormously to the gameplay, the glimmering, the MINUTE to MINUTE unexpected drama, the reality of SURVIVING, because you FOUND the ones who didn't make it - and when you heard the flies you KNEW there was some sad remains of a player met his end somewhere over there, maybe hes lying 15 yards into the trees, or behind this next house.. I understand why they took that out (I just dont LIKE that they took it out - it made DayZ LESS of a game.. it was a SERIOUS change) : 1) If your body stayed in place too long when you were killed, you could log in and run back to that place and collect all your gear from the corpse ... 2) It was too big a load on the server - on the Loot Economy ... Ten bodies scattered around the map with all kinds of gear on them have the same weight as ten players (just about, I guess) and those were the days of 20-30 player servers (do I remember that right?) Hell, even on 50 player servers each body still needs processing power and lists of all their gear "in play" to stay on the map, even if no one is around to stumble over them.. So the dev team cut their losses 1) Length of time body stayed on the ground was cut so you couldn't easily relog and run back to it (- by chance once I relogged once a hundred yards from my dead body and a crowd of zombs were still kicking it (mad b*stards) 2) Thedevs wanted more free processing power, so as they chnged the rule - As soon as no live player were in a short range of a fresh body it dematerialised, same as any player object left on the ground. If you died alone you'd be off the map in a minute. That' s Great for bandwith and server agility .. they focused pretty much 100% and worked on lag problems rubberbanding .. network .. SO bodies that lay where they dropped even if no one was near - they just went out of the game.. That was a BIG loss. Drama and psychology :That was a GREAT HUGE pity for the gameplay.. It's an unforgettable experience when you're moving across the map and you hear flies over behind that stone wall near the gas station ahead of you... That really GETS YOUR ATTENTION.. it changes everything that's happening.. a player who didn't make it "flies buzzing around his eyes" .. do you check it out, go over there, follow it down .. is it an ambush, why did he die, what gear does he have..? look, a dead fresh-stater with no backpack, a raincoat and a peak cap, dead on his face on the beach.. .. guy died .. you wonder where he was trying to get to .. I swear you feel pity and you say a silent word and then you move on - you don't want to end up that same way.. You are part of a game that has People in it - and some of them are Alive and some of them are Dead.. you meet both.. THAT used to give a DEPTH to the game.. I BELEIVE all longtime players who were around through that epoch REMEMBER those incidents ... For me = Instead of a bigger pop server - If it were MY choice I'd cut ten or so of the max pop and leave places for dead players, maybe fix a way a player can't reclaim their own gear from their own body But that was GOOD PLAY, and anyone there will tell you the same.. MEMORABLE.. tales of Survival and Death xxp

How's The Survivor GameZ Going for you B I ?

I'm not from Cardiff, as you spotted very easily, I can't SPEAK any 'street' except London & Marseilles I don't ever use GOOGLE (grah ... ptooooi !). Not for any reason under the sun. The quote is from Cú Chulainn .. seemed appropriate No harm meant at all If we go on doing this - we will be kicked out or the thread closed or both <<At 2400m altitude the 4G reception is poor and the sun is not yet over the mountain Twelve hours inside a tent inside a cloud - a collection of .epub passes the time>> - I have no idea how to say that in your language So I put it to you in English - I don't see a problem. I'm enjoying myself, hope you are too, I don't remember we ever argued, or what about, I guess we did everybody does, it's a forum. After sunrise you won't hear from me - just wondering, before we go up (when/if this bloody condensation fog dries off enough to see the rock) - why do you want readers to NOT understand you ? I thought you were doing it for fun. So I did it for fun. enjoy xxp Back On Topic anybody ?

How's The Survivor GameZ Going for you B I ?

So, it's still y boi Drws nesa already ? "Rydym yn aml yn cytuno ond nid ydym bob amser yn cytuno"
  15. Perhaps that is true I can't say .. let's see what happens (what else ?) .. but it seems to me DayZ has by fits and starts and strange sideways jumps and FORGETFULNESS and odd changes for "different reasons" - it had gradually drifted away from it's original long term intentions and focus and it's Special Character and is now .. maybe definitely .. heading in a different direction? I don't want to say "yep, it's gone ..it's switched down a different track: 100% destination change" - But looking at the Forum content from the players themselves, REALLY there HAS been a huge change .. people aren't talking the same, they aren't looking for the same experiences in DayZ, they aren't even looking for the same GAME .. their WANTS are different, and pretty much it SEEMS the team (the new team? the remains of the team?) is trying to give them what THEY want. Whatever the game was and whatever it was SUPPOSED to be and what made it good and unique, is just fading in in the memories of a few old players ?? And there are not a WHOLE LOT of those around on this Forum now. Is that true ?? Or I"m just in a bad mood?

_Gews_ is systematic, scientific, professional, coherent and knowledgeable IMO about weaponry and ballistics. I always read his posts with interest. I link his name as a REFERENCE - because he is unfailingly useful and informative to read IF you or anyone other player is interested in this subject area. I do not expect him to reply when I link him in a post. I do not know of anyone on this Forum who has provided so much detailed info on DayZ weaponry performance in all it's aspects, though all its iterations, as _Gews_ - and he has done this for years. @-Gews- is a very useful source and CRITIC on this topic. p.s. You did not answer my question of the online games that, in your opinion, provide a superior realism compared to real-world firearm dynamics above the level you decry (rage against?) so vehemently in DayZ Worth reading back over some of _GEWS_ contributions, if you have not already done so. He has input a considerable body of work to this Forum. I M O

OK, you cant read Let's try the FIRST TWO LINES of my post again : << Nope I never said "super realistic mil sim" - don't know where you got that idea from (dude) I just quoted a line from your post because Patton said about exactly the same thing as you did in that line. = I thought you'd pick up on it. >> It was a friendly comment, you missed the point, you went into a rant, and now you come back with another rant. If you can't read I cant help you - go away, pick a silly shouty teenage squabble with someone else. xxp << a camping and flanking match or carrying an OP gun >> = Patton yup = to put it all in one line, that's how we did it in two world wars dig in, outflank, outgun

    Dayz Launcher Uninstalled my mods

if the DayZ launcher checks and replaces files before launching the game, don't use it Keep clean backups of all your modded files Do this WHATEVER launcher you use then all you have to do to for any problem is drop the whole bunch of clean files back into place So - it's good to have : 1) clean fresh backups of your 100% already tested working mods 2) Full set of the mod files you are messing with now and dropping into the game to try out 3) Copy of the files you have live the game as they are ATM art the start of a modding session AND these 3 folders are separate from the active game files themselves, natch Little bit of STEADY organisation - plus regular bookkeeping & systematic updating saves a LOT of work .. believe me .. nah, I mean MORE work than that.. Really a LOT I know a dude kept having 3 beers and a smoke before messing with his game I swear, every time I called him to see how he was doing , every week, he was .. reinstalling windows ? .. again ?

How's The Survivor GameZ Going for you B I ?

Nope I never said "super realistic mil sim" - don't know where you got that idea from (dude) I just quoted a line from your post because Patton said about exactly the same thing as you did in that line. = I thought you'd pick up on it = He was talking about warfare. End of tale. no harm done. In reply to a friendly one-liner I get suddenly a whole set of different "objections to the game" : As to the way folk play - I guess they play how they feel? ... How many of them have had military training or been under fire ? You expect them to behave like trained hardened shock troops? They are much more likely to do dumb things and to cheat whenever they can exploit glitches .. that's players for you. No combat training and no TERRIBLE gut fear of death. Whatever they know - they just picked up from hanging out in the game. Obvious ain't it ? - I'll bet there's PERHAPS ONE PLAYER (somewhere on this Forum) who has ever REALLY run 12 miles (20 klicks?) with a loaded bergen (a USA Marine carries around 130 lbs these days, our SAS think that's easy stuff for beginners) .. or perhaps ONE player who had =ANY= other military experience - What DayZ player ever abseiled from a helicopter with their gear ? -- because dude as you get out of the door you hang on like GRIM FUCK or the downdraft BLOWS you straight down the EF-ing rope into the GROUND - but I guess most DayZ players don't know that because they haven't had military training or seen action.. AND THATS WHY they PLAY DayZ, it's OUTSIDE their experience - these fans are playing in a FANTASY mil sim in their HEADS (in fact it's a SURVIVAL sim, NOT a mil sim but what the hell) = SO = plenty of them do STUPID imaginary mil/hero/gunfight/showdown things AND plenty of them CHEAT and EXPLOIT when they can. AND there IS ONE PLAYER (I KNOW) on this Forum =just one= who can tell you off the top of his head the muzzle energy & velocity, and the useful range, impact energy, likely wounds, of any cartridge, any mil load, any bullet weight or design, of any variation of any arm in Dayz.. and he tests and compares the DayZ figures to the real figures. But there are NOT many players who know the muzzle velocity of any weapon they have in their DayZ hand AT ALL tonight. So saying bullet velocity is only "a tenth the correct velocity".. what the hell DayZ player even knows what that means? So - mil sim ?? Nah - they DON'T EXIST - Please SHOW ME a mil sim that YOU find REALISTIC .. I do NOT believe they Exist. Point me to one. Weapon characteristics ?? SHOW ME a game that has "more realistic" weapon characteristics. Because DayZ may not be great ( take that up with @-Gews- ) - but do you seriously know a MORE realistic-range of firearms with MORE REALISTIC attributes in a MU Online ?? Point me to it. Maybe @-Gews- knows one? Let's ask him? He tends to get it right. Saying the game is in a mess is one thing: SURE IT IS - but blaming the players themselves and their ignorance of military tactics, and their use of exploits, and the "1/10 th speed incorrect ballistics" of the firearms .. is kind of really strange.. IMO As for the 1pp and 3pp argument.. you'll have to go have that somewhere else ... sorry (& thanx), dude xxp

    I do NOT use Twitter

Statistics (casual fun for DayZ players): 1) Twitter has over 100 million users actively using Twitter daily and about 500 million Tweets every day. 2) Five percent of users accounted for seventy-five percent of all activity. 3) work it out
