500 second wait timer? Rant @ devs

YES - I was just figuring how much I could make if I hired out ONE server for 29 years. OR how many programmers, putting in a total of 29 years of work (but only at a normal working week each of course) it would take to fix the server timer so it told you what the time really was on the server, and how many people were really playing. With maybe some time over for one or two other little server-related problems. I hear they are already doing that. But I think it's more fun just having the players sit around for 29 years. xx

500 second wait timer? Rant @ devs

Hey here's a cool idea for you: There are 1.9 million players - let's say each of them just once has to wait for 8 minutes (for whatever reason) Just once That's 253,333 hours hahahahahahahahaa .... that's 29 years dudes... hahahahahahhah xx pilgrim
  3. Just a note: Hiding behind a doorpost is a good way of dealing with another player Hiding behind a doorpost is NOT a good way of dealing with a zombie (that's the way it is at the moment - I know it's not finished, and all the rest - but for some reason I just LOVE this game) Hey - maybe ask MetapoliC for some zombie advice - he's a friendly chap and he's been around for a while. He might give you some hints: http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/188326-running-from-zeds/#entry1938564 xx
  4. The zombies are pretty cool just at the moment Far more interesting than they were In 2 days they blunted my axe, ruined my pristine combat vest and damaged the gear in it including my can-opener, RUINED an FNX I was actually shooting a zombie with, broke my leg, made me bleed 4 or 5 times, wore down my pants and RUINED MY BOOTS... I threw the gun and the clothes away - but I don't forgive for the boots. so in general they are more interesting, I am actually slightly edgy of zombies now.. hmm This is not to say they are perfect (I didn't, lol). [NO I did NOT say they were perfect, you think I'm CRAZY???] Would be great to have STEALTH.. if that comes up I'd be pleased Would also be great to have zombies spawn out of sight and not suddenly in your face hitting you. And zombies with poor night vision? But in general, a great improvement.. a good first step towards ZOMBIES... which is what we all want, right? For NEW PLAYERS: Dont run away from a zomb in a straight line they can hit you from far away, and they can keep pace with you. SO yeah, to get away, keep your hands empty and run like F across the sides of hills, the steeper the better.. keep your angle uphill so you can run full speed, dont slow down, run up in zigzags, turn and run back past the zombs following you, they cant hit you when you're charging past them, however close you pass them at speed, keep speed and zigzags.. then when you have some altitude up the hill run back down the steepest place as fast as possible, in zigzags again if you need too keep top speed.. the zombies that try to follow will often just fall and kill themselves. If it doesn't work the first time, or some are left alive, do it again. You can do it longer than they can. If you are a newspawn and don't even have an axe, this is THE METHOD (if you're cunning you can clear all the zombies from a small town this way, then quick loot) Plenty of steep hills on the coast. And also run further than you think you have to before you bandage. Or just try going upstairs somewhere, you might find you're safe there (or safer). Then run when youi're ready. Also if you are a newspawn, don't rely on the axe too much, since this patch, unless you feel MEAN and BAD.. I walked up behind a zomb quietly and gave it a definite strike to the head with my fireaxe. Blood cloud came out of the zombies head. Zombie didn't even flinch, just turned round and got mad at me. BUT there are folk say they can kill 10 zombs with an axe and not even get warm, not bleed, and not even blunt the axe... I'd say "Don't Try this At Home" .. but maybe you ought to. You may become a hero too. Sure I can kill zombs with an axe, but its a fight now and you have to concentrate and keep right on top of them and non-stop keep moving, and if 2 or 3 turn up its NOT as easy as it was. You going to end up tattered and torn, most likely (but I might get better at it). I find the FNX doesn't make too much noise, doesn't attract many. And, hell.. it's easier.. hehe. It's sure Quicker. I kind of like them, they are just STARTING to be fun. xx pilgrim

    Feeling Conflicted

Insults are an old and traditional part of battle They have been around for a long long time (and there are some good ones) Some are handed down for generations I don't think people usually say nice things to each other, or about each other, when they are fighting to the death or getting ready for it.

Why wont people play in the night ?

Isnt this how the universe began? xx pilgrim
  7. pilgrim*

Why wont people play in the night ?

Can the zombies see in the dark in SA ? In the mod they had limited night vision, and in the mod we had STEALTH too.. If they can see in the dark like they see in daylight, dont go into town tonight, doc, they're waiting for you.

I can see and move but everything is black

What it is: You will see that every server has a "time of day" written next to it. AND (for very-difficult-to-understand technical reasons that a whole team of experts brought from NASA and the ex USSR is working on right now) the time of day it tells you in the server list maybe has NOTHING to do with what time of day it is on the server. It can say it is 13:25h (1pm in the afternoon) but when you get on the server its really the middle of the night with no moon. After you log in, try your Inventory, if that works, you're in the middle of the night and your graphics card is ok. So go on a server with at least 20 or 30 players on it - they will be in daylight (they're not stupid - no offence to night lovers and vampires, etc..) but if there are 25 players it is DAY. If its still dark after you do that 2 or 3 times, then you DO have a graphics problem. But I promise you I've been on servers where it was BLACK and I thought my card had stopped working. xx pilgrim Edit: "I can see and move but everything is black" - sometimes I also get that in real life in the mornings but its nothing to do with the game. Glad to see you sorted it out. Enjoy.

500 second wait timer? Rant @ devs

Hey - this guy put tape on his Kalashnikov ! So why can't I do that? Hey, where's my Kalashnikov ? (this IS on topic right, guys? we ARE talking about the 500 second timer right? Anyone seen my Kalashnikov?) I just have nothing else to do while I wait to get BACK in the game AGAIN, AGAIN.. can maybe someone LEND me a Kalashnikov ? Trade ? Looks more like 600 seconds to me. If you watch carefully you sometimes see there are little pauses between one second and the next - that are LONGER than 1 second. [also can I have "the problem solving skills of a recently lobotomized prawn" too, please - I think I'd like that] xx

500 second wait timer? Rant @ devs

Note about getting kicked: Problem about being kicked is you're probably in a street or some other interesting place when you get booted. So very probably the zombies will eat ya for sure. In case the next time you log in you're still alive, then start running FIRST, because by the time you can move properly, the new zombies will be eating you for sure and all the kids in town will be shooting at you too. Don't ever get kicked within a mile of anywhere at all. When I'm on low pop servers now, or "clan" servers or any of those other "XXX" servers, I just never go close to anything interesting ever. It's not worth it. I'm starting to meet enraged zombs half a mile out of anywhere. They used to be rabbits, but now they're NOT. Anyway: I think the 10 minute wait time is NOTHING when you find out a server that SAID it was 13:45h turns out to be Black Midnight. And so you log out. I think the wait time to log into another server should be increased to 2 hours. It is a very very very very very difficult task for a team of pro programmers to get a Server to Tell You What The Time is on the Server World. It's just as difficult as having the in-game sun move and the in-game shadows move during the server day... MORE difficult... definitely, because the sun moves on a timer, and that would have to be READ... My Great Gad.. (lol - do any of you remember in the MOD the clocks on the towers actually TOLD you the real Server Time inside the game). SO obviously we can't expect any paid group of experts to simply SOLVE this problem by working at it.. It's much more logical to tell ONE MILLION kids that the Server is set to 13:03h and then let them find out for themselves its really 02:AM when they get there, then they can spend their TEN MILLION minutes wondering what LIFE is ABOUT, and wondering if maybe they will find a server to play on the next time they try. Good Grief, you think a programming team can solve a problem like "server time" just as easily as sending manned vehicles to the moon or building the International Space Station or Analysing the Human Genome or something... jesus... there are problems and there are PROBLEMS spend your waiting time wisely children... play POKEMON like I do. Im SMART xx pilgrim

    Log in Timer Poll

Lets Play DayZ (ok kids?) I log in to a server in California Server SAYS its 10:00 its pitch black ok I log out I log in to a server in Kuwait Server Says its 10:10 (its ten minutes later because I had to wait 600 seconds, right? Near as damn. That's 10 minutes, I guess we know. In Kuwait at 11:10 .. it's also pitch black (strange planet we've got here isnt it?) OK So I do my 600 seconds (ten minutes) and log on to a server that says its 15:30 Here its night too (TOTAL moooonlessness) but its cool because I get kicked So I only have to wait 300 seconds to try again I amuse myself drifting through that list of all those servers - bout 50 - that say 0 players, but then tell you to "Wait for Ever" wen you try to log on Maybe they are turned off to save electricity? Plenty others have players on already, 3, 7..maybe... but still say "Wait for Ever Sucker" it's fun to try (but I'm no fool, hahahahah, I only try 3 or 5 of them) The next server takes only a mere dozen or so seconds before "Disconnected from Server" So I can go right ahead an try again. Another win! Its only been Half an Hour so far and I'm maybe almost about to START But today most servers in the USA seem to think night falls around 17:00h, so things slow down a bit. Finally I find one called 24h/Night - oddly enough this is in broad daylight, its about noon with the sun directly South. Great! After about 12 minutes the server resets, which is odd because it claims server time is 15:40, funny time to reset, but maybe its a clan server and they noticed me (not clan), or someone else, or they got bored. So - after getting towards for AN HOUR of play, I've actually been in-play for a dozen minutes. And it was exciting. I checked my inventory, I made a plan.. ya know.. AND I was lucky with the kick earlier, because in the dark I didn't have time to get anywhere dangerous and no zombies noticed me standing around after Id been thrown out. I hadn't reached a town! So I was still alive! Great. So I had a fun evening. This was the start. I think the timer should be increased to 1.5 hours to ensure only serious players get involved. 10 minutes is for weaklings p.s. As far as I know, it does NOT EVER DO this, but.. If my server ever says "Wait for Client" when there are 0 players on it I will be FURIOUS xx 'nice day. pilgrim
  15. Hmm interesting ... Hi again DYDM, do you play? I notice at <11.00 am > in California its pitch black and at < 11.10 am > in Kuwait its .. pitch black I don't mind, its just the 600 second wait to find out if any part of the planet is in daylight. Would be nice if the servers told you what time it was? They lie. xx pilgrim

The great "Musa sapientum fixa" Poll

If you handcuff someone and make them eat fresh bananas how many bananas does it take before they die ? (..just asking..y know.. in case ..) I think leaving banana skins on control tower steps is a legitimate tactical action. The 1980 United Nations Convention on Prohibitions or Restrictions on the Use of Certain Conventional Weapons Which May Be Deemed to Be Excessively Injurious or to Have Indiscriminate Effects, agrees. And at the tops of ladders. I think whole bananas is going a bit far, though. Remember you were a human being once.
  20. It's because you went from FAUST to ORIGIN OF SPECIES You should have been going the OTHER WAY dude rick-grimes-stole-my-boots
  21. Go into the middle of Cherno - but it has to be on a 40/40 server or it might not work - And put your guns on the ground And shout (In a Loud Voice) "Does anyone have a copy of the Bible please, especially the Book of Job ?" (this seems to work best if you are wearing battle dress OR a yellow waterproof and a cowboy hat OR a payday mask, but I don't know why). xx pilgrim in fact places to look (there are many) but try these: the downstairs back room in the camo buildings (the police building?) there are always 1 or 2 there (but also people in battle dress) - also in the piano house, upstairs in the front room, always 2 or 3 in there. Then in the train stations that have kiosks outside - and the roadside kiosks (the same), those small buildings that are open in front with shelves on display. usually if you open the door there will be 1 or 2 books. AND I've quite often found bibles in churches - but I think that's the no-trouser-cult-people.. several times ive found 2 bibles in a church, but I guess they were put there by players? There are a LOT of good books in this game.

The great "Musa sapientum fixa" Poll

And leave banana skins on the stairs ?
  23. Details: In fact you don't need access to ANY BEC files or server files - you have your server administration software up on your screen at home. In that software you can SEE a list of players and you can also KICK players - ok... (thats about all you can do) So your Whitelist/Autokick software does this.. it READS the list of players (so you do not have to read the list yourself) it Compares the list of players to a whitelist on your pc - just a text file is ok... if it finds a name on the player list that is NOT on the whitelist, it kicks that player. This is very very old and boring software - all you are doing is Auto Read from the Input, and Auto Write to the Output Softs to do this for ALL kinds of programmes have been around since (probably) keyboards and screens were invented. It's really the same soft that used to screw around with bulletin boards, back before they invented those little jpeg pictures with words in funny colors to make it difficult for the software to read (its an image, its not ASCII).. you remember that.. So your little programme sits on the PC and does exactly what the Admin can do himself by HAND, except it saves him the trouble of having to read or type for himself. This is why I said in my last post above - the French team in this thread are going to a lot of trouble when they want to put a password entry on their server.. Personally I DONT know how to do that, I haven't looked at how it's done, I just happen to have seen the screens that say "Enter Password". I give an example of a passworded server but there are others, just the same as there are locked servers with people playing on them. Go figure. Maybe the Admins are doing that to show how clever they are?? I have no idea what that is about, or why they bother. Unless they do it because they want Bohemia to KNOW they don't give a Flying Rat. If you are Autokicked you CAN NOT PROVE that you were auto kicked. All the software does is what the Admin can do by hand from his own PC.. and he can give any excuse he likes - IF anyone asks. But if you look at the server lists now tonight, you will see that NO ONE is asking. .. this is really a fairy story.. Bohemia I and all the DEVS know it ALL the Server Providers know it And +200 Admins know it... so I'm not giving away any secret here... the fairy story goes ... one day someone says: <<The King Has No Clothes>> Hey ! ° For fun, arrange your server list by Number of Players [And please NOTE - here I'm talking about EUROPE, Saturday Night, peak playing time.. I can't say what happens on USA servers when they are on full throttle... wrong time of day for me. I get the impression this situation is not so bad in the USA, but that's just an impression.. not the statistics] FIRST on your list you'll find 75+ servers with ZERO players - you can not enter any of these, you get "Waiting for client". You get that message forever. (given the price of ONE server, people ought to ask - if there are 75+ servers with NO players on Saturday night - someone must be making a lot of money for NOTHING, right? Why are they there?) THEN also most of the next 50+ servers with 1 or 2 or 3 players will also give you the "Waiting for client" message. (there were about 50 of these last week, saturday night) THEN you get a list of about 125-150 servers that have less than 8 players. Read their names - TRY to join.. ok we've already gone through 200+ servers there... not bad hu? THEN... (etc, maybe this is boring..) Servers with 1 to 8 players you will probably not get in or will be kicked immediately. I notice this week the numbers on private servers has gone up a little - so on saturday night it could be 1 to 12 players on that LONG list of private.. but often there are only about 1 to 3 players, with an average of 5. Mixed in with the rest of the servers are some honest ones, GOOD PEOPLE, that let you in ... and also some that kick you manually if they feel like it, and some that restart any time they see there are too many strangers turning up. Plenty of servers have nice names like "Nube Server for Fun Fun Fun"... but they kick anyway There are more figures I worked out, but I won't bore you with them. Anyone can do this. I already bored myself enough. I guess the figures change a little all the time. I was doing this last saturday evening. Euro Central Time. AT the other end - a the bottom of your list (where you haver the most players per server) you will find maybe 50 servers that are full. They are the "honest" servers and they are all very close to 30/30 or 40/40. Last week, when I did the calculation, the full, honest servers came out at 12 percent of all the servers listed. So 12% of the servers haver 80% of the players. Why? This was just my own little survey, because I was bored with not being able to play.. so I'm not claiming scientific accuracy, I'm saying what I noticed, I wrote down some figures and added up numbers of players, etc.. Best thing to do is to try it yourself and see what numbers you come up with. But no one cares, right? Do I care? Moral: I'm afraid it's just too late, friend, the private servers are in place, there are MORE private servers than honest public servers, they dont give a damn about Bohemia's policy or the "Server Rules". Nothing is going to happen to change this, except MORE admins are kicking normal players each week, so this is becoming a MEMBERSHIP ONLY game very fast.. it's a pity that those Admins have access to the public hive, but that's just a fact of life. I hope you have a good server to play on, anyway. Enjoy
  24. MORE THAN 50% of servers on line tonight are private. This fact is well known to everyone. Private.. meaning: Auto-kick Clan Server White List Clan and Friends Only Join=Reset and Ban Join=Kick Reserved Testing. Character reset Pay to Play Password Only Server Locked All these exist now - just about every server with 8 or less players is private - try to join one (really- just TRY). In addition, many other servers that do not have direct threats in the titles ALSO use Autokick.. It's not the name (which is bad enough, if I was Bohemia I'd be ...ashamed...) its the POLICY The result is: more than 80% of normal john-doe players are playing on less than 15% of servers Because those are the only ones they can get access to. It takes 15 mins to look through the lists and do the statistics yourself. Whitelist and Auto-Kick software is VERY EASY to implement as it runs on the Admin's own pc, on the back of the server management tool. It is NOT detectable by Battleye or by the Server Providers. And the Server Providers care as much as Bohemia, ... they are falling over themselves to put a stop to it - as we all know. The Server Providers are tearing their hair out, The Bohemia statement on "What we are doing about this" is a famously free and frank discussion that can be read anywhere. This is also well known. Does anyone think I am being ironic? I hope not. We are players, we notice these things. I am in Europe. Often now I have to play on USA servers, because the Americans seem generally more honest about this. You CAN join their servers - even though you have a high ping and play is not ideal. When I play now - or try to play - I start a normal evening by getting kicked or not being able to join, 5 or 6 times in a row. Most servers in the list have less than eight players, and those you CAN NOT ENTER. They have from 1 to 8 players because they are PRIVATE. The remaining servers are all just about 40/40 because no one has anywhere else to play. GO look. ps - the French speaking admin further up the thread wanted to know how to password his server and why couldn't he do it (rough translation). Someone should tell him it's already being done right now. He only needs to find a passworded server on line tonight, get in touch with the Admin and ask for help. But someone else will have to explain that to him, not me (I'm not in a helpful mood). And frankly a Whitelist with Autokick is much easier to set up. How can any player PROVE they were kicked because their name is not on a list ? hmm? ps - if the Admin mentioned goes to, for instance 198.27.69.90:2502 he'll find 4 players online at the moment (18/04 21h04 CET) and he'll need a password to get in. I'm sure Sgt Crisp can help him out. Or ... just .. whatever (no offence Captain Biscuit, was just the first that came up when I looked). I don't even remember the dude's name. Nah.. I don't even want to know. I' going to do something else now more fun. See ya! Enjoy.

    4 hours playings....WTF ?!

OK ? (lol) Maintenant, disons t'as trouvé un bon serveur et quand tu login encore t'as t'jours tous tes equipements. OK. Donc fais gaffe a ca, l'ami xx pilgrim
