  1. I think Xbox is the intended principal answer to that problem. Also - in fairness, BI have a history of supporting games completely free of charge and virtually ad infinitum, sales or not .. Of course - in order to continue with that 'established' tradition, they must always have sufficient revenue coming in to pay their staff.. which predicates new sales/new games/new markets #note# Back in BI history, they have ONCE previously aimed to move into the Console market, but that experience went (very?) badly, leaving them in financial difficulty. [disclaimer] This is purely my understanding, and my reading - they were 100% a PC company and got into deeper water than they could handle. Now times & tech have changed and it seems they are again moving "seriously" into consoles ? (while retaining / in parallel with, the PC market) .. let's see .. also BI is a private company.. even one retirement or 'change of life-plan' COULD alter (some, many, or various) things ..radically.. [ honestly = bottom line is I like BI, but my person opinion isn't bringing them any pieces of eight ]

A message for those who play 3rd person servers

this is true the QUESTION is how to imitate a real life experience - how to give an immersive imitation of HUMAN SIGHT - in a game where the experience of human sight in a 3D world is totally FALSE. Hope you like this reply, or at least think about it - because "Realism" & "Immersion" in computer games is a FASCINATING complex subject. STUDIED totally SERIOUSLY by many game professionals, designers, and devs right now. <here is a very SHORT answer, leaving out a LOT> 1) you cannot move your eyeballs 2 ) your horizontal field of view is limited to 20° of your Real Life filed of view, because you do NOT have a wrap-around screen covering 175° and 4-5 meters high. 3) You are watching a FLAT screen 50-120 cm in front of your eyes (ALWAYS) your focal length is immobile and always fixed - because of this you have ZERO true depth perception. You see EXACTLY the SAME thing with one eye or with 2 eyes (a very strange experience for the human brain's profoundly instinctive range-finding, humans being a binocular race designed as hunters) 4) You have no senses of touch, of weight, of peripheral movement, of smell, or of slight but significant sounds ALWAYS present IRL. Your audition is 100% faked by the game, "background noises" are randomly generated and do not indicate environmental circumstances. There is no such thing as the "meaningful" sound of a twig snapping, or the slight sounds of an enemy in cover. You have no IRL sense of your own body position or awareness whatever. You have no idea if you are wearing sneakers or military boots or if you are wearing a T-shirt or a 40kg berm and body armor (unless you look at your inventory) or your stamina line, you can turn around on a 60° slope to "look" and to "sneak" with 70kg on your back) .. and etc.. there are many examples or REAL LIFE sensory deprivation in any computer game. Because YOU in FACT are NOT in the game. 5) When you look at your screen, you are AWARE of all the space around it that is NOT in the game. Seeing the room around the screen that is NOT in the game and takes up much more of your vision than the game screen - is your REAL LIFE 1st person view. So you are limited to a computer-generated simulacrum of "human eyesight" projected onto a FLAT non-3D screen of very limited dimensions. In the same way as you READ A BOOK, you can convince yourself (if it is well made) that you are TAKING PART in the BOOK, in that 'smallish (brain activity) ' reading-bit of your awareness, and nothing else counts - you are "immersed" in a VERY artificial world. This is mainly a DELIBERATE ACTION on the part of the player, or the reader. If "immersion" is EASY then thank the writer of that novel (or game) - that "dev" has done good work to get you immersed. So -FIRSTLY- The game or the book has nothing to do with reality - it PRETENDS to have something to do with reality - it uses ARTFUL TECNIQUES to convince you that you are NOT in your room, you are somewhere else. ONE common method for gaining a more realistic overview of the player in his environment, is to pull the camera back BEHIND the player - this gives them a MORE REALISTIC sense of the environment they are moving through = a field of view closer to the real human IRL field of view - and it gives them a MORE REALISTIC sense of their body position in relationship to the environment. This is something the game cannot do in any other way, We don't have position and feedback sensors attached to our IRL body, all those NATURAL senses are cut off : ( at the moment I KNOW I'm sitting at a keyboard and typing - I know this for 100 reasons.. so how "immersed" am I ? I can FEEL my fingers hitting the keys, I can FEEL the boots I'm wearing. I can SEE the keyboard the mouse 3 computer screens, a wardrobe a couch the carpet 3 walls, par of the roof, in the corner of my eye a flicker was a bird flying past the window, and (blackbird) it called a warning because someone (or something) disturbed it on the path outside, so I think PROBABLY people are coming up (more likely walkers than a dog).. and - damn, I'm eating a small sandwich and listening to the PC fan hum and the clack of the keyboard ).. SO exactly HOW immersed AM I in this GAME in front of me inside this fairly SMALL FLAT back-lighted oblong ? I'd say I'm pretty DAMN well immersed.. for immersion, DayZ is GOOD For some reason GAMERS often can't make this distinction .. they seem amazingly unaware of what they are REALLY doing (what is happening in their head) when they play an onscreen computer game.. they "think" they are inside the game in some way, when of course that is their deliberate voluntary hallucination .. deliberately ignore the REAL.. let's PRETEND. Perhaps that's because humans are used to playing, and just go with the flow, they don't realise how complicated and cunning the whole setup is to give them the impression they want. Plenty of games are strictly 1st person - Doom style Plenty of games are strictly 3d person - Name your own Some games give you the choice. Saying "your screen view" (please - its a SCREEN it is NOT your 'eyeballs') - saying the screen view MUST show what you would SEE IF your eyeballs were inside your head and you were INSIDE the game (you are not) and IF humans only had an extremely limited field of view (they don't) .. or ELSE the game is not "realistic" .. well, that's just nonsense. Both modes of play have PROBLEMS because both try to IMITATE "reality" in an understandable way in a completely ARTIFICIAL world. there are two "usual" ways of doing that in a DayZ style game. Both are available, pick the one that floats your boat. But PLEASE do not say one is IN FACT more realistic than the other - you are just saying you prefer one over the other - that's personal preference, you don't have to invent stone-tablet rules handed down from the One True Great Gamer in the Sky that PROVE one is more realistic.. because such a thing Really-Really does NOT exist. If it existed ALL games would USE IT. I'm easy with either mode. All the players on one server use the mode/modes available on THAT server, so gameplay is fair for everyone on that server. scuse me while I eat my sandwich - I'm right now TOTALLY immersed in the game - when I actually look AT THE SCREEN I just absolutely totally believe I'M INSIDE THE SCREEN, even though there is NOT a world AT ALL inside that FLAT layer of pixels.. just some cunning artfully designed shapes and colors designed by devs - DayZ does NOT obey ANY PHYSICAL LAWS AT ALL.. it doesn't exist as I imagine it when I play (Ive finished my sandwich, still immersed).. the imaginary world obeys simplistic rules based (distantly) on the physical world TO A CERTAIN EXTENT (but not a lot) and I can PRETEND-PLAY I'm inside it (which I can NEVER be) by using my voluntary imagination and a handful or ARTFUL CUNNING fakery tricks the Devs have put there to HELP me get involved. And KNOWING where my WHOLE BODY is when I'm running through a forest or a town is ONE OF THEM. - er - just like in real life. Well DONE devs - nice work! All this <technology of immersion> isn't really much to do with your EYEBALLS. In DayZ there are NO EYEBALLS. There is just a camera position. Hey, in 1st person, have you noticed you can look down your own neck? - lol Play how you feel. xxp

A message for those who play 3rd person servers

dont get it? - read back through the 53,714 posts about "1st person" on this forum. Really, dude - Count them. Consider them. Discuss them. etc etc etc blah blah woof woof .. Should have read the post - it's about fanatics who rant rubbish - you are repeating yourself now for the third time in one thread. Put your fingers in your ears and chant "1st person is REAL, 1st person is REAL, 1st person is REAL", it will help block out other points of view and save you some thinking time. Or check the 53,741 posts on "1st person" you'll find intelligent arguments on both sides. = I play 1st person too ,dude, and sometimes 3d person, depending how I feel. My advice is: forget the "balls", grow some brain and try for LOGIC. Look at the reality of a fake 3D environment on a Flat Screen of strictly limited dimensions. Compare it reality, notice the differences. (WOW!) Why have SO MANY HUNDREDS of game designers opted for a 3d person view when it is "OBVIOUSLY" so STUPIDLY unrealistic, unfair & immersion breaking? All those Devs behind all those games must have been Soooooooo DUMB to make that DAFT mistake to WRECK their own game. Right? And have a nice day. p.s. Dissing is not totally the best way to get opinions heard in this DayZ forum, we generally stay (kind of) moderately friendly and we TRY to say intelligent stuff - this ain't a RUST forum. xxp

A message for those who play 3rd person servers

er.. YES I'm called Pilgrim.. and YES I just DID DENY THAT .. so you got half your post wrong just to start. Please stop ranting. I'm not going to go into all the pros and cons of 1pp-3pp because it's been done here on this forum 1000 times - go read up, but let's not start all this CRUD again. So you have a HOLY VISION and everyone else is wrong.. GOOD, dude - lucky for you there ARE 1pp servers. Go PLAY. (you might meet me there, I play them too). Arguing with 1pp fanatics is like arguing with total religious fanatics - everyone knows they are CRAZY except THEM 1pp is NOT more realistic. Both options have problems - different problems for each option - and the problems take realism & immersion AWAY from 1pp AND from 3pp - they are just DIFFERENT problems. There are a couple of hundred of comments going back YEARS arguing the pros and cons. But the lunatic illuminated fanatic religious 1pp players have the voice of GOD talking to them, there is nothing to be done about them. I think they were dropped on their heads when they were babies? Sure - 1pp freaks would LIKE 1pp to be "more realistic" - they would LOVE that. I think that's what they are trying to say - but unfortunately IT IS NOT. - that's where their brains jam up. Cut an oblong slot in a cardboard box - give yourself about 20° of vision, and about 5° of vertical vision .. - put the box ON your head - run around your neighborhood and try to ACT NORMAL. Take care crossing the street now! Have fun in the Supermarket or at a party! Remember you can't move your eyeballs to see left or right! And REALLY don't go on any battlefields! Try it IRL - then tell us how REALISTIC it feels ? <good grief>

[SUGGESTION] Inventory concept | Tab System

So : The inventory tab keys only work when you are IN the inventory, and you also have one tab key to show all inventory, so you can scroll etc as at present. Makes Sense ! Need to fit that to Controller too, for Xbox ?

    Central Economy Issues/types.xml modified

    - yes they are. @ImpulZ has said this ensures base construction materials won't disappear from the ground around a player who is building. So ALL loot stays around after a restart ATM, as well as persistent items (tents, cars, barrels, bases) * I think you have to look at loot categories. Each INDIVIDUAL spawn point is linked to loot items from a category - if you reduce one item, it just means that other items in that category will spawn more often to keep that one spawn point stocked up. Seems some individual spawn points spawn from just one category, some spawn points are linked to more than one category. This is why different spawn points spawn different kinds of stuff (I don't mean general loot spawn areas like "in a house" I mean the exact specific spawn point (like "on the small table").. a house might have 5 spawn points for instance). At the moment I think the lists are as shown on : dayz.xam.nu/ = Civilian : Farm : Industrial : Military : Hunting : Police : Firefighter : Medic : Special : Coast : Planks (& maybe other categories - or this is not up to date??) Some items are on more than one list - So one spawn point in one location may choose items from more than one list ( Industrial & Village, for instance) Best thing to do, IMO is start with the CLE as given, and just nudge it gently the way you want to go.. it will take hours of server time before you see how that pans out for players. Take your time and don't change too much at once. Just a suggestion : if you want to clean the server - restart from a spare file where you have set all loot spawn everywhere to zero - restart & wait for everything already on the server to despawn - then restart again clean from your real file with the spawn values you have set. ps - (dumb fix) if you take an item OUT of the list, and REPLACE that line with another item already in the list, then you have ZERO chance of the first item spawning, and TWICE as much chance of the doubled-up item spawning. Hmm ? Leave the max and min, and average and spawn rate the way they are - and replace items you DONT like with ones you DO like that are already listed -just cut and paste. It's a way to start ?? On average those items will be selected twice as often. * < check that with @ImpulZ > * [if you speak the name of the wolf, he comes out of the trees] The Devs have tinkered with the loot lists for a LONG time to get an equilibrium (and folk still complain) .. I'd follow their lead and go slow to make changes. = this is just my way of looking at it =

A message for those who play 3rd person servers

Yes - I only played 3p for a long while - years ago - because I though 1p was too constrained and gave you an UNREALISTIC field of view. In real life if I stretch my arms out sideways horizontally from my body, I can see both hands in the corners of my vision when I am looking straight ahead - so that is REAL battlefield vision/awareness (about 170+ degrees) , and 1pp is nothing like that. 1pp is like having your head in a cardboard box with only vision through a 30° slot, max. No one would go into combat wearing a box like that. Also the lack of useful directional sound, and skin feeling, and sensing the weight on your feet, smell, etc - the whole BODY sense experience .. all the real human indicators that we use in movement and situation-awareness, are absent in DayZ. So I believe 1pp is NOT more realistic than 3pp. BUT - bit by bit I have found myself playing more 1pp and less 3pp. I really don't know why.. perhaps because it is more exciting and it forces you to take more care and GAIN situational awareness, even though it is a handicap to realistic awareness, and nothing like being in a real environment. So I often log in, in 1pp mode, and not notice what kind of server I'm playing until I (as @DDFanboy says) I want to SEE my character, maybe for some ingame reason, maybe to take a screenshot, maybe because I get sudden paranoia, I want to move through forest easily, or I want to check if I am well hidden .. then I find out if I'm playing on a HC server or 3pp server. I really don't know why Ive shifted more and more to App (the change just happened without me noticing) - NOT because of "realism" - maybe just because I know DayZ well and know the terrain and know all the obvious things NOT to do, and who might be peeking from where, and it gives me a kick now to "handicap" myself.. more immediacy or something? I just fell into it for no particular reason. But I have nothing against 3pp and - all things considered - I think 3pp is probably more "realistic" than 1pp, given the size and view angle of your oblong flat (fake 3D) LIMITED screen. When you are looking at your screen you CAN see HALF your room around the screen, right? So all that real human vision is WASTED and not used in the DayZ 1pp game. But 3pp has peeking, so the "faults" of each mode kind of even out. If someone IRL is on the other side of a wall, close hidden, or round a corner, you can often hear them or be "aware of them" or "expect them" in real life (sixth sense? creepy awareness of danger? experience? inner warning voice? sense of wrongness? ) - but NOT in DayZ, not onscreen .. but you can explain away "peeking" in 3pp as someone getting the drop on you, just because they were more alert or sharper or cleverer or set you up (and in the game parameters in 3pp that IS kind of TRUE, aint it? ) .. SO : If you HATE that, then ONLY play 1pp. If you LOVE that, then ONLY play 3pp - where you know it's fair because anyone/everyone could be doing it. Both styles work out fair. It's like "keyboard or controller" for Xbox.. if keyboards were truly BETTER for EVERYTHING - then Xbox would have had keyboards from the start? Hmm ? Whatever floats your boat. Try both.

So this claims you can accelerate Night by 64 x 24 = 1536 Gives you a night of under a minute (56 seconds?) Should be easy to check, putting in the max values for both .. your night will either be almost half an hour, if <Accelerated Nigh Time> is not accepted, or 1 min if it is. ?

Who actually build bases and repair cars?

Right - Neither do I - I don't disagree with Emu ( we played on the same server for a while, he is one of the 6 people on my Steam friends list ) So why do I disagree with Emu? Answer = I DONT He is simply ignorant (this is not an insult, it is a literal use of the word) about other playstyles outside his own, and he is derogatory about them. He plays on a special one-off server, which has only ONE base on it. He disses folk who cant understand his (IMO) painfully baroque manner of expressing his opinions. I prefer Shakespeare myself, or Dylan, or Giacomo Casanovan or Suetonius, or even any Guardian (English Newspaper) Opinions writer or Beowulf in ANY translation or the original, or Hunter S. Thomson, or PLENTY of folk on this forum - they ALL make sure they are understood by PLEBS and don't pretend to be part of a daft pseudo-cultural elite. But if that's what floats his boat.. it's cool... it's crap use of English, and it wont be read much, but nobody minds. I'm saying this as a technical author and editor (with a shitload of bloody experience, a degree in Modern Eng & American Literature, a degree in Philosophy, and a degree in Digital Electronics) sitting in a room with 700 damn favorite books ranged along the wall, not counting another 2700 in digital formats. These are the interesting ones that I have read and kept. I'm not writing to pull weight or be clever because that's a crap thing to do. It pisses me off mightily when people start the I-am-smarter-than-thou snide denigration. Better to say things straight. NO - reading a lot of books does NOT make me smarter than ANYONE else. (the only thing it does is make me a minority, and there are PLENTY of those around - I'm just another dude passing by in the street, OK? Let's keep it like that). NO I am not a "troll" YES- I spend time READING what << borderline illiterate >> players WANT TO SAY when they "complain". I think that people who are not used to writing their opinions include VERY MANY DayZ players. So let's NOT ignore them or deride them. You don't need to speak fancy to play DayZ. They play DayZ their way. They are a VERY significant part of the player base. Specially the players who want to GO ON PLAYING have opinions as useful or as important as yours or mine. That seems fair, right ? I guess the Devs must understand this. OK - Words go to Emu's head, he doesn't mean half of what he says, he's just impressed by the words he uses. IMO So why do I disagree with Emu? Answer = I DONT - I asked a Question, I did NOT state any opinion. So I do NOT disagree with @emuthreat. - or with anyone else on this thread. * The Question is really simple - I see a problem coming up in DayZ and I WONDERED if any players could suggest a practical solution. Base building - right now - is a first introduction of an activity to the game. Some elements have been added to DayZ from the Arma/Dayz readymade store - like throwing some lego bricks into the game, and tied to crafting actions. Base building works pretty badly at the moment. So the question is - how to make basebuilding work WELL, without completely changing the whole gameplay of DayZ ? Say for instance - (simple example) - we decide that to break down a plank wall takes 200 blows of an axe - so if someone wants to break that wall they need maybe 10 axes or some way to sharpen the same axe 10 or 15 times, and it will take an hour. Or they need 10 players each with an axe. That's a lot of work. So do we want bases that are pretty much invulnerable in DayZ ? HOW difficult should they be to destroy, section by section, item by item? Can anyone suggest any FIGURES that do NOT turn the game into a base-against-base Rust-like CLAN game ? But plenty of folk want that - read the comments (going back for years). Xbox do NOT have the luxury of private servers, and DayZ on PC is supposed to be the SAME as DayZ on Xbox .. So HOW do you make bases that are NOT easy to destroy ? How do you do that WITHOUT forcing players to join a group to build a base - and then making gang war on the NEXT gang in the next base ? Because if you want to get to the famous "endgame" (sorry I mention that) - you MUST join a gang to build a base, to defend it against the next gang in the next base, when you are not attacking the next base with your gang. Because that's what there is to DO when you have strong bases. (unless you have a private server, of course .. or you just have ONE base allowed on your Special server) I just wondered if anyone had any SUGGESTIONS that were PRACTICAL about this "base" problem, because I can see it coming up, and right now it is an INEVITABLE problem. IF that's the way DayZ is going (becoming a Rust-like) - then that's FINE by me. No SWEAT. Is that what most folk want ? Or are PC players mainly looking for the best Mods to come out, so they can leave vanilla behind? (Xbox players cant do that, natch) OK See? It was just a question. Easy to understand, right ?? * In fact - I think most of the players who can UNDERSTAND this question are actually busy building Mods right now, and not listening to the conversation.

Who actually build bases and repair cars?

    * Yeah, those players who don't understand Emuthreat - SCREW THEM * RUST has better "base build/destroy mechanics" than DayZ - "more balanced" Players have argued about this HERE since 2012 (basebuilding) and argued about Rust (real example of basebuilding) since 2013 RUST is a "survival game where players gang together in groups "clans" to cooperate on base building. Then they raid and destroy other groups bases. That's the game. Do a Search on "endgame" in THIS forum = 2000 hits going back to 2012 Do a Search on "bases" in THIS forum = 2000 hits going back to 2012 Pretty often you'll find "endgame" and "base" in the SAME sentence ever since 2012 .. and I sure as SHIT did not put those words there. After the FIRST 3 years of arguing about bases in DayZ, Facepunch built a cut and stick mockup of DayZ/DayZ mods ... with basebuilding in it. Central to it, it turns out basebuilding is the Main Thing .. it's a kind of "no choice" scenario. Join a group build a base or get KoS, sucker Now in Dayz players (particularly Xbox) want to have the same "balanced" mechanics for base-building in DayZ as in Rust. FOR THE SAME REASON; They want bases they can play RUST with. The "aim" in RUST is to survive long enough to join a group and build a base so you can raid/destroy the bases of other clans. Group KoS game with Bases * So NOW DayZ wants basebuilding to be balanced ... to imitate a ripoff copy of DayZ made 4 years ago. Get some. * I want to be able to use an empty bean can to boil water so I don't get Cholera. That makes me an screwed up troll illiterate nihilist. Because - we don't do that crap in DayZ anymore.

    Base builders off limits Truce

DayZ HAS TO HAVE KILLERS, untrustworthy players, liars, turncoats, bandits, tricksters, as well as nice folk - If there were no killers, we'd have to rely on NPCs for stress .. and no AI has ever been made that can do the totally UNEXPECTED stuff that a human player can come out with (that's one good reason we play multi-user online, right? - for totally unpredictable HUMAN interaction ) and no player has been freaked out furious or stressed or gone crazy mad because an AI shot him or ate him.. the only complaints about AI (zombs) is that they are not consistent or glitchy, or not MEAN enough or TOO EASY .. no one ever starts a thread to complain that they were KoSed fair and square by a ZOMB when they weren't paying attention. - Hey folks DayZ is AFTER the complete collapse of civilization.. NO RULES, NO LAW. There are =WOW= cannibals with guns around.. y'know? - Mad Max had it Easy .. check your six .. don't believe what that wandering stranger tells you .. keep an eye on the treeline .. inattention brings death .. xxp

Who actually build bases and repair cars?

this is long - and "boring" - but if you are interested in @Evilsausage 's OP .. He makes a true serious point about where DayZ is going and HOW has it's direction changed. And the aim of the forum is exactly to give input and discuss THE GAME. So bear with me (or Naff Off, as you like.. heh) OK : (are you sitting comfortably? ) If you look back through the forum for "endgame" you will find this argument has gone on for 5+ years.. Various (serious) players, one type of player, has lobbied for "bases" so they can have "endgame" for years. The idea of "endgame" is already fully fledged in their heads when they join the forum. << You can't have a survival game without an endgame>> <<where is the endgame? >> << the endgame has to be bases >> <<why is there no "endgame" ? >> No one ever said camps, tents, vehicles, stashes or (in the old days) helicopters - were "endgame". That idea didn't last long, for some reason. Check out the posts - So to get in line with more standard Achievement games - the idea and the WORD "endgame" became common and accepted, and maybe 3-4 years ago "bases" was linked directly to that concept : = " you need endgame so you need bases " Used to be that you could have a great camp with a couple of tents an truck for extra storage & mobility, and a helicopter - parked way out in the sticks, very difficult to find (before new towns and mil structures were scattered ALL OVER the wilderness) - people who wanted extensive CAMPS built them even before BASES became a concept. The problem Now is that BASES don't work very well at all.. the best USE I've heard of for a walled enclosure is NOT defense, NOT "interdiction", NOT protection from weapon fire, not motor pool or meeting place, NOT eyecandy (perish the thought!) , not security ... The best use I've found in play (my experience) is just one solo player who planted a tent out in the woods and constructed a fence around it to keep wolves out: That makes sense. The argument can go on forever. My BEEF is that if endgame (and the word IS USED commonly) means "BASES".. then the nature of DayZ is being changed, What DayZ is ABOUT is being changed, and new players are being SOLD a "base building game" because that is what street-word and youtube say you are supposed to do in DayZ.. just like it is what you are supposed to do in RUST, OK ? .. It ,is Designed FOR that. For me that's a mistake, a cheap (failed) crowd puller, it's underselling the game, its missing the special interest of DayZ and what DayZ was DESIGNED to be about .. it is taking DayZ in a new direction to IMITATE games that were originally COPIES and RIPOFFS of DayZ .. (AND new players spot that quickly.. listen to them here on the forums today) This is ONLY my opinion, so don't please all jump down my throat for saying it. I am NOT trolling, I am NOT insulting anyone - play how you like - Emuthreat says "dont listen to the opinion of "little semi literate" new players.. but I respect those players as much as I respect @-Gews- or @Weyland Yutani or anyone who has been here for YEARS.. these new players start up and find ... WHAT exactly? that they have to get mil geared, get a car, build a base - and they think : 1) that is what the game is FOR - it's a base-building clan war game 2) the game works BADLY, sometimes VERY BADLY 3) It's a grind, unfair, full of Destructive Killer LoL Gangs, and its a waste of time to try to reach "endgame" because "endgame" is NON FUNCTIONAL So .. destruction of the efforts of other new players is the only thing left that gives you a playable successful activity - true for 90% of players - so hell, Gear Up and KILL .. that's what the game is for.. right? (I mean IN REALITY that IS the play experience and that's what attracts MOST of the players who stay). No one is telling players DayZ is an unusual minority appeal game, open world, for people who have their own drives, ideas & directions, NOT provided easy AIMS.. and its dangerous and you won't live long.. that is not SAID anymore. - And when it is said in the Ads, many folk LAUGH, because it is not true. The whole farming, survival, hunting, woodcraft, travel, adventure, expertise, aspects of the came are DISPARAGED .. because, face it, they have become TOO EASY or COMPLETELY NON EXISTENT ATM.. (personally I hope one day they will come back .. but it looks like the game is NOT going that way anymore?) So my only question is - now that the original team and the original folk driving the DayZ Vison have LEFT.. which way is this game going with the newcomer devs (no insult intended at all). Where are we aiming exactly? Are bases just something added to the mod kit, eye-candy, not much use in practical gameplay, and poorly functional in the vanilla game, but PERHAPS the elements have been thrown in the carton because they COULD BE great for anyone who wants to MOD to make them work? The only reason no one points out the weaknesses of bases here & now, and the POSSIBLE improvements to their VANILLA design and gameplay - is that almost everyone with TECHNICAL experience and PRACTICAL understanding of game construction has LEFT vanilla and gone away to make their own mods.. this leaves base building like a few bits of lego lying around in the vanilla game - like a kit of incomplete parts. The argument and the push for an endgame went on for a LONG time - eventually bases turned up to end the argument : Bases in vanilla are a MESS So we didn't even make it to RUST.. we fell short of our own imitation. *. And NO - @emuthreat, trying to survive, being mobile, backwoods, hidden, cautious, small group, individual, is NOT "nihilistic" - solo and backwoods play is not nihilistic, hidden tents, barrels, careful approach to interaction, awareness of LoLers, KoSers, Mil kitTeamspeak Buddies, Clans and Hoppers, is Survival .. Im TOTALLY amazed somone with Emu's experience states openly that "a kid" with incorrect grammar ("semi literate") is not even worth hearing, & that a player like @Parazight is a "nihilist" .. (sorry Parazite.. IMO Personally I thought you were one of the players, like @odin_lowe & others .. with maybe a little touch of Zen in your game ). * So - Are there any Suggestions on Future DayZ Development and focus to ATTRACT new players - anyone ?? In the far past - telling them they would only survive 15 minutes was the FIRST BIG CROWD PULLER, and that really worked! What has done better than that, since then? * xxp - sorry to take up your time ( lol - I know I probably didn't ) For a "NEW" argument about endgame and bases (this is my IRONY) - look at << What do you do when you have the Best Gear? >> Posted May 2012

    Broken game

I agree that the technical side of server operation and smooth item function needs work, and the whole set of items and actions needs putting BACK into the game - but the work is going ahead, and - same as you - that doesn't mess up my game any .. it's just part of the "uncertainty" of the DayZ experience, one of the usual "strange interesting things" that have always been happening in DayZ development since the start. All part of the crazy game (I like) from BI. I just wonder if many Xbox players think DayZ is a " Rust-like " and play it ONLY for LoLs and Destruction & Dissing - that's their privilege - but there's a lot more in the DayZ game as it was originally thought out and designed, and a lot of progress was made towards a unique experience (look at all the spinoffs and copies) - would be a pity if DayZ turned back and started copying one of its own copies (e.g. Rust) and got a reputation like that, and then only attracted players who wanted that Gang, Kill, Destroy kick. On the other hand - DayZ has always needed some bandits and killers and KoSers.. they are 100% better than AI & NPCs at making the game dangerous and total stress. That's ONE of the things DayZ is about, right? - but sure it aint "polished" right now. That's the work in progress.

Who actually build bases and repair cars?

    - So "endgame" = basebuilding .. thanks for the answer at last, I wondered what "endgame" meant, I've never seen any meaning in it - So now "basebuilding" gives "engame" a meaning.. great - If I said Rust was a PvP PvE Basebuilding Game, no one would object, would they ? - so is that the way DayZ is trending in it's vanilla version ? - When you log back in, your watchtower won't be there anymore ( unless you play a whitelist server ) - I have this info from reading ALL Xbox players who comment, and a large number of PC players. And p.s. don't ever climb up your watchtower when someone is shooting at you. @Parazight seems to have the sanest attitude to basebuilding AND endgame - he doesn't say a lot but you should perhaps read his comments with more care ? - and read mine (for once) before your next illuminati rant (the Divine Emu Revelation of the Meaning of DayZ ) - I am interested in the TECHNICAL equilibrium of game components and game function and playability and I have NOT noticed a LOT of satisfaction with "basebuilding" - do the research yourself.. It seems that all Xbox and most PC most players are not satisfied, very dissatisfied, indifferent, or want radical changes in "basebuilding". I wondered where that might lead.. what KIND of game is developing here? now why don't we BOTH drop out of this thread, hmm ?

    Broken game

I think OP is saying DayZ is played by most Xboxers as if it is Rust with no grind = Get gang, Loot up, Kill, Destroy - this is my interpretation of his dismay I may be wrong of course
