Technically there are 2 ways to go: a ) A selection (may be limited) of different clothing items for male and female characters, which can only be worn by the corresponding M/F character b ) Unisex clothing with different skins for diff sex characters I don't know of any other skinning technique. Someone does? So what are suggestions for male only clothes, and what suggestions for female only clothes ? If more freedom in player-defined facial elements comes along, this will make individuals much more recognisable, naturally. But in face/hair and in CLOTHES it would be cool to have CHOICE and DIFFERENTIATION - and avoid the obvious traditional pitfalls of standard MOGs outfits. This is not a fantasy game, right?

Building art in DayZ Standalone not apocalyptic enough IMO
pilgrim* replied to GriefSlicer (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
remember the mod? sandbags and machine gun posts and bodies in the streets, showing a fight lost.. and the occasional massacre site with flies buzzing. Def atmospheric (was it decided this was too atmospheric?) Cars do not fall to ruin after 2 years abandoned, unless ALL these cars are burned? in this case many buildings should be violence-damaged? City buildings take 25 years before they begin to show external signs of wear Interiors left open fall to bits faster, interior paint flakes off, plaster and tiles fall fast, furniture decays if left with windows broken and open to the climate. It's interesting to look at the many photos of Pripyat on the web (Chernobyl) 30 years after this modern city was completely abandoned non-violently. Wooden buildings need more upkeep, external wood stains and dries in sun and ice, shingles break loose if not maintained, a door left open for a year falls off its hinges, metal starts to rust (hot summers cold winters, central Euro climate). I always noticed in SA that - in real life, in abandoned wooden country buildings the doors always stick and are difficult to open, usually left wedged or sagging half way. Village gardens and streets and road borders grow thickly and are rank after 1 year, except good metalled roads. In cities grass starts growing in the streets, in paving cracks, gutters, around posts and drains after 1st year, could be strongly noticeable after a few years, dust collects, windblown. This gives the uninhabited look more than anything else, untill trees start appearing and the roads begin to crack (long time later) I thought the film "I am Legend" was VERY good at the uninhabited abandoned city look.. someone should have an award for these visual effects... was the only interesting good thing about the film in fact.. -
A light dissertation on Morality in DayZ

No he's not a troll. I suggested to BI they should award him a gold-plated AKM xx -
I don't know about other men, but speaking for myself, I'm all the same. And seriously - why is it not possible to have a limited number of clothing items labelled <M> or <F>, and M items only go on Male characters and F items only go on Female characters. In a survival situation, finding unsuitable non-unisex stuff would be entirely normal, if searching through old and discarded clothing. * And (off topic) - how about a BLANKET ? You can wrap it round your waist, you can wear it over your shoulders, over your head, or as a poncho, you can carry stuff in it.. there are a number of uses for a blanket, as most people know, and they are very VERY common items in any environment.

Well I was brought up to be a Sith and I never had any problems with my dad about what to do with the Force. I follow the Gaffer Tape theory: "It has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe together"

Wow, they removed trees from chernarus.
pilgrim* replied to nurdseprem's topic in General Discussion
I guess all you people just live in the cities Of course there are a lot less trees, whole areas deforested, more space between trees. Why don't you ASK the Devs? also, there is another 'Cherno size' city planned for the mid north xx pilgrim -

Haha - I just realized, if you gave the zombs a little more hit power, they'd be about as dangerous as average players About as smart And they are already just as predictable as players Players come through walls too, hehe -
Using the term "ethics" puts you IMO into the same 'philosophical group' (excuse my slack terminology here, for speed) as Harris. You are supposing (and I have no objection to that line of thought) that there is an objectively correct way for human beings to act faced with 'moral' decisions, and that this can be discovered. This is a fascinating subject. I come at it from a very different direction.Briefly, in my life I have found it necessary and interesting to construct (by trial and error, and by analysis) a personal morality which does not correspond deeply to any codified or popularly a-priori accepted morality, be it religious, popular, political..To do this (if any person wished to do so) one has to firstly consider very carefully ones "own" received ideas and exactly those concepts which one personally takes for granted. There must be a reason for the presence of these ideas, they came from somewhere external, however personal and evident one assumes them to be. Of course, these are the concepts which are NOT normally considered, and their acceptance renders civilised (and localised) human interaction "easy" and fluid. We are social beings as well as (at the same time, combined with being) "individuals". Individual and social existance cannot be seperated. However, my own moral code is quite rigorous, I assure you. My problem with, for instance "christians" (excuse the generic) is that I can understand their acting according to their own moral code, but they think it is neccessary to invalidate mine, and force their morality on me (which is logically impossible). I do not understand this need. This perhaps corresponds to "ethics", but in these terms leaves no place for "moral free-will". Historically such activity has not lead to peace and happiness, I believe. Just to throw the discussion completely off course, here is a suggestion: A hawk eats meat, it cannot have moral qualms about eating meat, this is a meaningless concept for this animal. A cow eats grass, a cow would not consider eating meat. Neither of these two creatures can have a moral or ethical problem about its own nature. However human beings are dentally equipped as omnivores, hence since 'the dawn of time' humanity has been able to choose to eat meat or to eat plants. This decision can and perhaps must be made every day, individually and depending on circumstances. Hence we (humans) can easily envisage a moral choice, to kill or not. It is the choice itself which creates the concept "moral" not vice-versa. This is built into our natures along with our jawbones. As for OP - I politely filled in his poll after he asked me to, and did it 'correctly' according to his desires. And I gave him beans. Have I in someway acted badly? I suggested that anyone interested could look up games and role-playing. There are perfectly sound articles on wikipedia on these subjects. We have been role-playing since neolithic times. There are definitions of 'what is a game'. Even Wittgenstein was interested. An often agreed element is that the player must know it is a game. I dont want to subvert this thread anymore so I'll just go play a while. See ya in the unreal. xx pilgrim edit: In case you are interested in logic and have not already looked at Wittgenstein (who is difficult and interesting in his thought and personal history) then check him out: "He was of the opinion... that his ideas were generally misunderstood and distorted even by those who professed to be his disciples. He doubted he would be better understood in the future. He once said he felt as though he were writing for people who would think in a different way, breathe a different air of life, from that of present-day men."

..//..pilgrim continued... Hahahaha - ok I understand you're trolling me. As for "struggling with a concept" - I followed up your Sam Harris reference. I think he has almost understood something that was said before 300 BC: "Self is the lord of self, who else could be the lord?" Dhammapada Chapter XII Looks like the "way" Sam Harris has chosen, is to make money from it. But what else can he do? What's the point of saving the world if it doesn't make you a living? I hope he doesn't get too stressed. xx

DayZ is a paradox game - Random thoughts
pilgrim* replied to cuddly_rabbit's topic in General Discussion
In the mod all this stuff was solved by having sidechat But people now dont want it or think it's unrealistic For a whiIe I suggested text-only sidechat to avoid pains in the neck Sidechat is a way to meet people without having to buddy-up or shoot them, it means you gradually get to know people on your server We have the radio in the game now, but nobody-and-nobody uses the radio So its strictly friends-on-teamspeak or casual-chance-meeting. That's your choice. So many of the comments in this thread say the same thing, same problem But - no one wants text-only sidechat Cool -
^ Aww shoot! and I thought that's just how folk dressed in Australia

Anything that is not strictly unisex is going to cause trouble Right? This link is not about female clothes in games, it's just a cool place about women in computing and making games, for anyone who is interested: http://ajlange.azurewebsites.net/ xx pilgrim

(back on topic) For the GIRLS ? A dress, or long hair, or bare (female) arms, or collarbone, or any specifically female garments, footwear, accessories, or either lipstick or earrings would be considered too urban, or too sexist, as I understand. Or not possible for technical reasons (hair for instance). [ed : I had a photo here but I removed it - it was sexist and uninteresting, it was I think a Russian woman, wearing city clothes carrying a gun, either a model or some rich person's bodyguard] Strange that the female shape itself already causes problems to a group of game developers and players who are all biologically human, while at the same time the male shape is considered "standard" for the species. Why not ask the women what they want, instead of men telling them?

SKS ok The M4 always was rubbish right back from the mod. Little glitzy toy gun, no punch, just spray. Get an AKM - makes a nice noise, looks beat up, nothing fancy, easy to use, IT HITS. Be a man.

Log in different server, if its the same reeds , just as you are logging in try stand up, lie down, crawl log in again, try jump a few times usually when you are stuck in reeds, when you log in again you will be standing outside them if you are really SURE you cant get out, ask a friend to come down there and shoot you, or wait to starve to death

You should read a good account of Waterloo An englishman named Ash aquired the rights to collect teeth from that battlefield. There were plenty young men's teeth scattered around, very often in whole sets. Ash used them to manufacture expensive dentures for rich Brits. He did very well and his son continued the business, but in the second generation the teeth still lying in the field began to be too decayed to be profitable.
