faster base building system like the one in rust!!! (PLEASE)
pilgrim* replied to Stephen Givens's topic in New Player Discussion
- that's your answer. If DayZ was the same as Rust then folk would be able to play DayZ or Rust and they wouldn't even notice the difference. Seriously - The DayZ players who wanted a Rust-like all left DayZ when Rust came out. (read back in the Forum). Then in Rust they complained it was too difficult for fresh spawn who didn't start with a clan and a base. -
[Recipe] Steamed Stuffed Peppers

This gourmet stuff is really great BUT I would dearly love to be able to boil water in an empty tin can, like we USED TO in DayZ years ago I don't need a stone fireplace - though that is a fine thing I don't need ovens and cooking utensils - though those are great for folk who have begun to settle and maybe plant crops I just need to boil water in an old tin can over a simple fire, in this survival game - like we used to Like hundreds thousands of hobos and survivalists and hunters and backpackers and woodsmen and swagmen and homeless folk and military and survivors and wanderers have done a million times for more than a century all over this planet and are still doing today. So I boil water in a tin can and I don't get illness from swamp water It's a rock-bottom basic technique. It's a natural standard first-principle. They Took It OUT Of The Game And then if you have the yen, you can add coffee and powdered milk and plenty sugar to the tin can when it's boiled - that's a fine thing to do - and sit around jawing, like IRL So before the advanced cooking techniques come on line - what HAPPENED to the simplest technique of all? DayZ is still .. slightly .. a survival game ..< ..er.. > .. right ? Boiling water in an empty can <thanx> -

I agree 100% @Nayte For me, IMO - the biggest very obvious example ATM is Bases <here's the rant - sorry folks> For several YEARS various players SHOUTED for "bases" - not barricading, not better stashes, not hidden stores, not camo for tents, not shelters from brushwood, not reinforcing buildings or blocking doors etc - just BASES with walls and fortifications and gates and towers.... ya know? Why? .. er .. <<because bases will be really cool>> The ONLY problem is that NOBODY EVER said WHAT you were supposed to DO with these bases.. were they supposed to be invulnerable? Were they to play base v base (Rust like) - what were the DYNAMICS of a base and WHO owned it? - could you capture it? would the gates only open for the right people (a list?) if there was ownership would it be (for instance) a key that you carried in the game so other players could loot the key it if they killed you? Can you only attack a base when someone is inside? Will there be special ways of getting in - explosives? - ramming the gates with a car? ropes, ladders & stealth? - cutting the wire? what happens when the owner is offline? IS ther an "owner"? How difficult SHOULD it be and HOW will that play in the game? Is it a clan thing? - 50 necessary specifications so folk can PLAY this base game and feel like it is something worthwhile and fair. <big difficult problem and nobody addressed it> just - HOW were these things supposed to work, and HOW did they fit into the game, and WHAT were they for - how do you PLAY bases ???.. So NOBODY EVER ANSWERED that QUESTION of WHY and WHAT FOR - Check the Forum, there are NO suggestions. The only answer from "'bases" fans is <<because bases will be really COOL!>> So DayZ got bases but still nobody knows how to play them or how they can FIT into the game So EVERYBODY complains They take too long to build and they are destroyed too easily. (We know that) - SO - WHAT do the build-a-mil-base wanters EXPECT ??? So DO folk want Rust-like bases? Do they want the kind of thing you could find in old DayZ Mods ?WHAT do they want? <duh> If someone EVER said what you DO with them and what you EXPECT of them - Anybody at all? - then the Devs could move that way. They have to because bases are in the game now by "popular demand" - and they aren't going to take them out again - enough people wanted them.. but enough people WANTED them without ANY IDEA what they were supposed to do with them. Now they've GOT them and there's still no agreement about how to PLAY them and how to MAKE them playable.. or what they are FOR. So now everyone's complaining about Bases - specially the folk who WANT them The ONLY non-complainer is ONE private server that has ONE huge base and they kick you off the server if you don't get on with them. So maybe bases will turn out to be useful lego-bricks for Modders.. but what are they doing in vanilla? And will SOMEONE please put out a PLAN on HOW to make them fit into the game? No one has done that. Nobody. Just complaints. * So a bit of thought and planning and discussion about PLAYABILITY and details of OBJECTIVES and GAME FUNCTION, seriously - element by element - would have been GREAT (would BE great) - but there was totally NONE, and still is NOT. So base-wanters got bases because they wanted them.. and now ? Only way I can see is heading straight towards a Rust-like. Maybe some folk have other ideas but NOBODY has EVER stated them.. except <<make them easier to build and harder to destroy>>. <end of rant> Maybe even HALF of new players joined because there were Bases - they sure as hell ALL start to build them before they even really look round the GAME - and then complain like HELL when the other new players just pull them down for LOLs. so - many folk who don't know the classic Core DayZ SA - are asking the obvious : Jeez - What kind of game is that? * Sorry, this is off-topic (?) but it is VERY MUCH a 'popularity' thing. [p.s. can't find you on the member list to link, @Nayte - have you done something cunning with your moniker?] -

so .. if development will not make a player want to play a game online (on a server) .. er.. what the hell will ?? Just wondering .. heh. or are you SIMPLY stating it's too late and it's dead? End of Story? .. I could swear you were asking for SPECIFIC stuff to appear in the FUTURE of DayZ well.. I was just saying : IMO THEY WILL .. done by BI themselves or done by other modders. I was answering your wish list, not the OP thread. My comment is an aside, a REPLY to YOU.. but I think PLENTY of PC players & modders will find the tale VERY INTERESTING (even if you don't). so @lex__1 you will probably find what you want sooner or later, if YOUR tastes are similar to enough other people's. DayZ was NEVER INTENDED to be a popular MASS game.. it is designed for a MINORITY... but with better ADVERTISING that minority might turn out to be a LOT of players, bored with the STANDARD MASS Mega-Corps games that "everybody can play, no sweat". There are plenty of THOSE around, and THEIR Advertising Budget is BLOODY HUGE. That doesn't make them "good" games. xxP -
@Guy Smiley - Take a look here if you haven't already come across it.. its a starting point with pretty fair explanations of parameters : will get you half-way IMO https://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/9k42f9/changing_loot_spawn_rates_a_short_explanation_of/ and a tool to do it [?] (with explanations, the guy below claims) - but I've NOT checked him out at all - it's a "Whole Server Customiser" for Standalone - but no idea if -or how well- it works, or what freedom it gives you. { -<added>- You can see WHAT it changes in standalone and work from there back to your server modding values (?) } - It links from here.. to an interesting looking site (and that's all I know 'bout it) : https://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/9k42f9/changing_loot_spawn_rates_a_short_explanation_of/ec203vu/ - damn, I'm going to have to get involved in modding myself, I can see it coming - (I swore I'd given up anything to do with programming/scripting LONG LONG ago.. and FAR AWAY) but what the hell .. it's getting TEMPTING

Classic example of modding - PUBG was a mod of the DayZ Mod made by a guy who liked the Battle Royal film .. he converted his mod to an ArmA 3 mod when DayZ became SA, and Sony licensed his Battle Royal idea off him, and hired him to consult on a thing called H1Z1 (you may have heard of ?). when that contract terminated a big Asian Seoul games company (their boss had already played DayZ, which was not popular in Asia but HE liked it, and was looking for a way to turn it into a MMU in the style of the FILM Battle Royal (super popular in Asia). He saw that what he wanted was already around since 2012, and Sony had already put money into a game on "a version" of the same mod - So he called in the original modder and put him in charge of making his converted Arma3 Mod idea into a full game.. That's how it goes.. mods of a mod by a DayZ fan who didn't know any programming when he started (that's WHY a circle closes in during PUBG, because the guy wanted a SQUARE that closes in, but he couldn't figure how to script it) His idea was picked up by the big companies with lots of cash. So H1Z1 & PUBG are in fact based on (i.e. kind of full-frontal bottom up remake mods) of a mod of the DayZ Mod - bought up and given money & software teams to put them out as full games, using the existing Mega-Corps standard BIG MARKETING channels so @lex__1 you will probably get what you want sooner or later. Maybe learn some programming and do it yourself ? https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/PlayerUnknown's_Battlegrounds#Development * the moral of the story (apart from modding) is STILL that BI should look seriously at MARKETING DayZ = Don't be SHY about DayZ = -

Try server : 172.96.140.114 ' Dead by Dawn ' The balance on this server might just give you a new challenge in surviving and looting - it's a private shard server WORTH visiting .. Take care when you go into town.. and REALLY take care if you try to enter a mil base or a mil roadblock ... searching for a can of beans, or a hand axe, or a fresh water pump is totally not same-same routine .. it's INTERESTING... try it. * The Mods are beginning to come out now .. @lex__1 the things YOU want will turn up in a Mod if other people are also interested. In a while you will be able to shop around to find the SA Mod on PC that suits you. In fact - when there are plenty of very-interesting & NOT-so-interesting Mods around, it would be FINE if the "vanilla" BI team treated the standard SA as THEIR OWN MOD.. and competed with the modders for BEST DAYZ GAME .. hmm ? maybe ? -
Yes Sorry @Nayte [ @ not listed ] - my bad, you were quoting @KriegEternal who said : << i am just not a fan of getting games i don't like >> the forum put your name on the quote - I just wasn't paying enough attention. I guess we are all fans of mainly not buying stuff we don't like. I do it all the time.

No Status Reports, No Updates, Hello...???
pilgrim* replied to Weyland Yutani (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
If you write @ImpulZ in a comment or question he'll see it for sure AND answer it, if it's worth an answer. So if you tried << Anyone out there @ImpulZ ? >> it would work 100% better than one more thread in the mass of general Me-Me shouting. (and the answer is just easy - it's "Yes") If everyone starts a new thread every time they want to say anything (pretty much what happens now) , instead of LOOKING AROUND and joining a thread already ABOUT that subject, then after an hour or so the new thread drops off the Activity, Topics & Recent Posts lists - and then probably - usually - NO ONE reads it at all. A big wave of REAL SHORT ATTENTION SPAN has hit this Forum. The general attitude seems to be " Who gives a shit ? I don't want a DISCUSSION, I just want my comment in BOLD at the TOP of the Topic list for half an hour". =IMO= -
me too - I'm not a fan of buying TOTALLY ANYTHING I don't like .. - ya know.. houses , cars, fallout shelters, aircraft, bikes, clothes, games, fishing rods, climbing gear, a bar fight, jobs, keyboards, socks, lego starwars, music, fancy haircuts, false beards, parachutes, electric dildos, DVDs .. ya know, I really DONT get any of that stuff unless I DECIDE I LIKE it FIRST. This may sound to you REALLY strange and alien and a crazy way of doing stuff, but I check the thing out and take my time and only get it when I decide it's what I want. Seems to me that being a fan of getting stuff you DON'T like is kind of .. not really the way to go. So check it out first maybe ? - Buying stuff you DONT like and THEN sending it back .. dude.. if that's what floats your boat, and gets your kicks .. but .. really, nah, life is too short.
-
dude, are you SERIOUS? are you REAL? you don't have to WORRY about those things, you just have to ACT AGAINST THEM. I guess you don't have kids yet - one day they'll tell you where you went wrong, and how you screwed up their lives out of indifference because "that stuff doesn't matter"

At what point do we consider DayZ dead online?
pilgrim* replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
You know- I am a long-time gamer and i used to be involved in this stuff for a living.. but I NEVER HEARD OF ArmA until folk started talking about this "DayZ mod" .. then I checked out this ArmA thing and found a whole sub-group of totally dedicated cult fans who played nothing else. They were NEVER close to a majority of PC gamers, for sure: the gaming mags and gaming websites hardly mentioned ArmA EVER. It was a cult thing with a cult following, and THOSE players were totally dedicated. I think this is par for BI and for their history and the way they go about things.. they get a theme, and they try to make THAT according to what is in their vision, and don't really LOOK FOR large numbers of "casual players" or "easy play". To simplify, they want the game to be good and right and THEN they see how many they sell.. .. they HARDLY ADVERTISE ANYTHING... It's like they are a company that DELIBERATELY make minority appeal games ? - they aren't looking for the next Pokemon (hmm?). That's the strong impression I get 100% - almost up to the present. Now they are involved in Consoles - where the Number Of Sales is WHAT DECIDES players to BUY.. If you announce 7 million console sales in 2 months, then you KNOW another 7 million will sell in the next 4 months JUST BECAUSE you SAID THAT. But Console players often have multiple games and move from one to the other (casual players is not a dirty word) - they are generally not the Cult Fanatic Fans who played ArmA on PC. Most Xbox players (NO Insult) wouldn't get past Boot Camp .. it's boring, its complicated, you have to learn too much stuff.. flying a damned Helicopter is really a PAIN, jeez you have to practice.. so that's a "crap game".. Let's play GTA, that's easy and the learning curve is FLAT. ArmA has NOT died, (as you say about non-bestseller games) but you SURE don't hear much about it unless you go LOOKING for it. It's not a Mass Sales game. But the minority who play - play a LOT and they are really INVOLVED. DayZ Mod was a runaway hit. Over time BI learned to deal with it the way they deal with ALL their games = tuning & specialist updates FOREVER (free).. That is NOT the way to gain yearly mega-sales, but it's how BI have made a living for almost 20 years. Now CONSOLES come on the scene - where if you don't sell a MILLION right after release, then NO ONE will buy a copy of that game until it's remaindered on Steam for $2. A company that sounds like "S0NNY" - er.. <could>- buy a few hundred thousand of it's own game worldwide on Release day One .. That launches the game pretty well and attracts "interest", right .. MUST be a good game, right? And 40% of their total-game-budget is advertising. Then DLCs, then SameGame II, more DLCs, & SAMEGAME 3 .. etc.. So: sure - 1) For DayZ PC cut back (some) on the vanilla servers, and at the same time see what comes out of the mods. 2) Get Xbox DayZ running REAL SMOOTH. 3) Using 1 + 2 look at game development to see what can be added into the game (or brought back) that will please BOTH the long-term minority "serious fan-survival-realizmo" PC players AND attract the bulk of (maybe less dedicated?) Xbox players.. [- I'm generalizing, don't get mad about who has the real playstyles, the most fun, or the deepest dedication - ] Don't sell out BI core values. For this to work, BOTH sides have to be catered for, so you have in DayZ a REAL spread of GOOD WORKABLE playstyles available for Console and PC. AND : BOTTOM LINE : 4) = ADVERTISE... seriously .. ADVERTISE .. Give rewards for the best player videos, and then PLUG them - whatever you BI SAYS about DayZ, many players will simply disagree (true or not) - so take PLAYER footage, choose the BEST REAL VIDS - buy the rights, reward them for it, put BI flash logos on the front and back, and plaster them all over the web, anywhere you can. BE HARDCORE COMMERCIAL 20 second ads, & 3-4 min scenes. There are pro-standard editors right here in DayZ. Competition for the best real-footage 90-second AD and best 20-second AD featuring the BI DayZ logo. and a hot/meaningful soundtrack. Find musicians who can back that cheaply (or free) for you, because they are plugging their own band, and they also like DayZ .. if the ad catches, so will they. Don't go to an outside company, you have an enormous range of talent here in DayZ on this forum. Bribe them. Make an offer - see what comes out.. Flood the web as much as you can. And also call for a dozen unusual-view DayZ poster-style images -instantly recognizable, & LOGO - for mags and (what the hell) even walls.. folk here can do all that for you. Make them an offer and see what comes in. xxp -

On @Guy Smiley's server there are a lot more zombies than the vanilla - they work REALLY Fine.. Worth a visit to see what an increase in zomb population can do for the game.. it makes town/village standard looting a NON CASUAL event.. and go look at the roadblocks and mil bases - they ARE NOT semi-deserted, for SURE. .. I don't know from experience, but I estimate even a hopper couldn't spawn in to a mil tent and straight out again, without getting one or two zombs on their back. The hopper sure couldn't bank on it - and a gunshot will bring plenty more in seconds. - I would LIKE to have zombs that could climb stairs (like in the old days) .. that made for some GREAT situations. - and I would also LIKE an occasional random zomb to be more dangerous & BAD than average - so instead of standing howling outside (because they know you're in there) , just sometimes a zomb could tear a door open or kick and rip it to pieces and get in at you. - apart from those 2 things, zombs are OK IMO. Definitely OK when they come in extra numbers - like on server 172.96.140.114 = Dead by Dawn That server had about the right balance for zombie numbers. Go look. If it continues to run as clean & smoothly as right now, when it has max players - the Devs should check it out and think seriously about increasing vanilla zomb population. -
So is this normal? One punch death in melee.
pilgrim* replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
... you EVER seen any Zombie films ? Your list sounds about right to me - except it would be BETTER IMO if they climbed stairs AND if one or two had double strength and ripped doors open to get at you but I've never met any zombs IRL (I lead a sheltered life) so I'm not too sure how they really behave ? - how do the ones in your local region act when they spot you ? -
and you're STILL here

I CARE .. I CARE .. the forum dissing is folk who have nothing better to do.. (AND the loggers who would rather start a new thread instead of reading the 4 threads started yesterday on the SAME topic). It's just kids who can write but cant be EFfed to read. There are 10000 online games for anyone's evening/weekend entertainment and kicks, and - WOW - the one they choose for leisure time is << Being Nasty on the DayZ Forum >> .. for some folk it's the best, I guess? Whatever floats your boat. there is is A LOT of THAT for sure. * Try private hive server 172.96.140.114 = Dead by Dawn ( if you are not to far away for ping). It's stocked with extra zombies and also well run. Good place. Just started up recently. else (if you are far from Dead by Dawn you are close to this one) - go to 185.16.86.48:2402 = The Village - always has a big pop in European playing hours. You can log in and hassle @emuthreat and his friends in their " large walled settlement ". They are rebuilding a new social order out of DayZ chaos. OR just hang out on any public hive server and hunt Dupers and Hoppers .. that's plenty fun - I mean - you have a valid point IMO, but make your point INSIDE the game - this is how to win the argument

night server after night server after night server after night server
pilgrim* replied to Red_Ensign's topic in General Discussion
On Public servers just completely ignore the day/night symbol - go to any public hive server that shows Medium pop - THAT will be day. -
Are you logging to public hive or to a private hive ? If you have - say 4 characters, (different bodies different names) and log in to a private hive you have ALREADY played - it does NOT matter WHICH character you choose on your login screen, when you arrive on that private hive you will be in the body you already played on THAT server with the name and equipment you already had there.. when you log OUT you will see that server character equipped on your login screen, BUT if you take another character and log into another private server, when you come out you will see THAT character equipped, and the last character you played will have gone back to equipment from some earlier state, or might even have swapped names (?) - BUT the main point is when you get on to a private server, you will find the same character there that you played previously on that server... AND that goes for the public hive too. OK - BEST thing to do = > however many characters you have, at least ONE of them should have the option to CUSTOMIZE CHARACTER (even if it looks like a tune you designed and gave a name to already) - So customize THAT ONE, and log in to a private hive you have NOT played before - and your char will turn up on the beach as you designed him. If you want to play on a private hive you've already played, or (I think [?]) also the public hive - you have to kill the character there, come out of the game, and send in your new CUSTOMISED tune.. that <MAY> work as you want (??) Otherwise you have to get technical, find the local file that holds your local characters info, delete it, renew from Steam, and start off from zero with only one character on your loading screen (but if you then log into a private server where you already have a character in play, I think you'll still find your old character there waiting for you) Maybe someone on the forum will tell you which pbo file to delete and where to find it ?? to get rid of your loading screen chars ?? (folks?) I have 4 chars = 2 private hive, one public hive, and a spare CUSTOMIZABLE - he looks like one of my "real chars" but it is the CUSTOMIZABLE that counts .... for me it works this way - as I described above.. it's kind of confusing, but Ive got the hang of it. If I send HIM anywhere I have already played and Im still alive o,n that server, he turns up there looking like the character I played there before, and equipped the same as that char was when I left. If I send him to a new place he stays the way I set him up. so if you play public hive, kill your character, leave the game and log in with your customizable character set up the way you want. .. see if that works. If you want to customize a new male dude char and send him to a NEW private hive server, then I REALLY suggest TRY OUT "Dead By Dawn" - it's a great server.. same zombies but PLENTY MORE of them, enough to be interesting, and they makes daily life definitely MUCH MORE fun.. also it is a stable server and well cared for: Dead by Dawn 172.96.140.114 this is a straight ad and a plug for a GOOD private hive server - and also a solution to your problem, CUSTOMIZE a male character and send him to Dead by Dawn, if you've never been there he WILL stay male on that server. and you wont regret it.

I think perhaps (?) a zomb can headshot you, similar to a player (?) but their attack is a body strike & doesn't usually hit that high ? - It has happened to me once in 1.0 (heard zomb running up behind me, I turned and shot) was dead so fast that I even wondered (and asked) if it was possible to turn round while you were raising a gun and pulling the trigger & to have just enough movement lag to actually shoot yourself (the server predicts where you "will be" and then updates it's prediction to where you really "are") - I was running, I turned, I was a foot from the zomb, fired at his body mass and I was instant-dead. .. never did find out HOW that happened. And previous to 1.O, I was one-hit killed twice or so over maybe a year.. each time that happened when I was crouched. - So that makes me wonder if a zomb CAN headshot. -
I play both, public hive - and private shard servers now that some modding is coming in, for the interesting changes Also, public hive gives a great opportunity to Hunt Dupers (mainly dumb herd animals but some can be extremely dangerous and they attack without provocation) .. so its a fine sport.. no rules open season any kind of weapon - a game worth playing in itself [ reminds me - there are NO Boar Spears in DayZ - terrible oversight - a functional Boar Spear is a traditional coup-de-grace hunting device, still a contemporary arm in Europe - and today they are plentiful on the web (even Amazon) and they do a damn good job (the Vikings thought so too) . .. heh .. scuse me.. just saying .. was mostly thinking about hunting Dupers - seeing as we cant hang them.. ... ho-hum

At what point do we consider DayZ dead online?
pilgrim* replied to rickyriot's topic in General Discussion
you have some knowledge of software (I seem to remember?) I think the DayZ game structure (totally deigned bottom-up for PC) had been taken a step backwards, deliberately, to find a core of common ground with Xbox & controllers - THEN start the process outwards again (coming back up to the full game) - keeping the reworked additions operable on both platforms. When the development game model on BI servers is fully cross platform all the way up, then it can be forked at the "output" into PC or Console. I think this is the plan, and explains why DayZ on PC seemed to jump back from around .6xx to .. er .. a 'more primitive' version ? When THAT runs cleanly on PC and Console, THEN all the real & expected bells and whistles can be added So state of play (IMO) at present is : 1) A single LARGE core game that fits both PC & console 2) Dealing with the common development model at the final stage of the utput fork to PC & Console - which definitely [obviously] includes the game control parameters (some problems are being worked on there) 3) Some bugs in the common core game itself - that express differently on PC or on console (or sometimes on only one of the two). These have to be dealt with in the core, OR moved to the output stage (BI needs to fork the game as LATE as possible, so that something in the core does not produce one effect [or bug] on console and a different effect [or bug] on PC). dealing with this will let them develop the entire core game itself as one project, indifferent to what platform it goes out to Ive noticed (slight) references that indicate IMO technical moving around and arrangements of compatibility and methodology, development software standardization, inside BI-DayZ development. We don't see any of that from outside - except as "delay".. but it is essential work if my understanding of their focus of effort is correct, as above. The only truly unfortunate thing was that 1.0 boasted "base building" but coincided with the unexpected persistence bug. If that hadn't popped up 1.0 could have passed without great comment, and would have been a better option than putting it off for smaller game glitches or (invisible) internal reasons... And a bug like the persistence problem (really a kind of disaster combo jumping out from base-building and 1.0 being pushed up front together) - that would DEF have the devs tearing their hair out and injecting caffeine into their jugulars :[ (right, devs? ) - well, hell - WORSE things have happened to Microsoft (in FACT nearly EVERY TIME they release anything) , and Microsoft are MEGA-BIG ..AND.. EXPENSIVE. So that was a pisser but I guess it can be forgiven? New players would take that badly though. Evil exists - Shit happens. oops, Real Bummer! I think the BI-DayZ devs have the strength, stamina (and speed) and resources to deal with that unpredictably unfortunate release. Let's watch what happens. I'm still playing. < But I never had much interest in perma-base-building anyway > I guess me becoming an antisocial backwoods terrorist (freedom fighter) destroying the clustered camp-followers, will just have to wait until it is worthwhile. * -
Accelerated Nigh Time - The numerical value being a multiplier (0.1-64) and ALS0 multiplied by serverTimeAcceleration (0-24) value. Thus, in case it is set to 4 and serverTimeAcceleration is set to 2, night time would move 8 times faster than normal. So with Accelerated Nigh Time= 64 then night time in game = 22.5 mins - but only if server Time acceleration is set to 1 (set to 0 means the game stays the same time forever?) serverTime Acceleration can be 0-24 - this gives you a shortest night of 21 seconds every hour (and a game day would last 1 hour).
-
I suggested a while ago (AND again NOW) that key loot items - probably just Mil Weapons would be a BIG help - are given Serial Numbers (like IRL arms) - digitally it means only ONE BYTE added to the parameters of the unique spawn item "xxx-yyy-Gun" when it spawns on a server. Then, at specific events, check the serial numbers - and if two are the same anywhere on the server, vanish the items, and - if you can, also hang the owner/owners (literally) from a lamp post in the nearest town. Dupers have to finish their manipulation in the dupe-location server to collect their dupe-loot. If they move on to another server, and a friend takes the dupe-loot to them, then 2 serial numbers match on the "other" server (vanish them/hang them). dupers could get away with it for a while by never hanging out on the same server with two items with identical serial numbers, but it is not their style to split up forever, or carefully scatter their loot.. it renders the exercise totally pointless - and solo dupers couldn't do it (they have to return to or stay on the original server) .. the max number of one single item (high loot value item) spawned on a server is NOT vast (not 16 thousand, for instance) .. one byte will cover ALL unique identifiers .. front end bits indicating the server of origin (to avoid having to cross check all servers when assigning or checking a serial number) THEN check the server list of THAT item for duplicate serials when a player logs in, and at 20 min intervals across the server?- or random checks - check serials for one key item, then at another time check serials for another key item - (AND you only have to check items that are stored or carried by a player) - how many clicks would that take per hour for the handful of key spawn items that dupers love? This would mess up dupers something terrible ! (specially if you hang them without trial when you catch them) It would not stop them duping completely (eg) ammo or spark plugs, but would stop them duping the "good stuff"- for instance automatic rifles & mil tents, etc.. which is MAINLY what folk are complaining about, and MAINLY what dupers want to dupe. Right ?? What have I missed? - what is WRONG with this idea ? - please? - serious question, anybody ?? @ImpulZ ?? xxp
