Armed Helicopters Are NOT Overpowered
pilgrim* replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Yes There are two problems with this discussion People say "endgame" and people say "rare" as though those are both real things and everyone knows what they are OK - what is "endgame" ... suppose only 1 heli spawns in 1 month.. that means in less than 30 days 1 team gets 1 heli, for sure. Then they spend - how long ? - say 5 days fixing it up so it will fly. It can be "very difficult" but they are a hardnosed team, right ? So after Five Weeks of Realtime, we are in the Endgame of DayZ ?? And make no mistake, once 1 heli is flying on your server then everybody is in the same "endgame". We all know this. OK - a month of realtime is not long for players to reach the "endgame". So lets scrap "endgame" as a stupid concept and just talk about "gameplay"... because if there are helis on the server, they will be flying around forever, if you are a beginner or a hardened player - they will be flying from day 1 (or day 35 if you insist). OK - "rare": People often say 'rare' as though anything has ever been rare in the Mod or SA. If you are experienced, any object you want, you know where it spawns, you know in general terms how often it turns up.. And you WANT it.. so you do what you need to do to GET it.. And that takes you how long ? 3 days play ? (wow that's rare) 5 days play ? (wow that's rare).. AND you get it, dontcha? We all know this. So saying something is "rare" in DayZ is really saying only the uber players have it. But there are plenty of uber players and they all have one (or maybe 2 even). They make damned sure they have one. So lets not bluff people that something 'rare' no one has it.. once it's in the game it's IN.. it might be a week or MORE (even 10 days!) before all the ubers all have one.. wow thats "rare". No it is not. There is no such thing as "rare" in this game. So the idea that only uber teams will be able to have "rare" gear when they are so uber they reach the "endgame" .. is a total fantasy. In reality we are all thinking "My Team is so Uber that WE will definitely have the Rare Heli before the other Wet Saps.. and we will Keep it because we are Totally Uber". Don't be offended - I think this way too, because I am just as dumb as everyone.. I think Im a totally COOL player better than all you other halfwit-stumblers, just like all us ubers think. so lets honestly talk about what helicopters might be for, and how they could work in gameplay, without pretending they can be "rare" or "endgame" (don't use those words). If they are in the game they will always be there. So what to do about it. -

yes.. I've seen it. I've spent hours lying on my back at night in a stone desert looking at it, watching the earth turn, with not another living creature, and not an insect or a blade of grass in 100 miles. Only burned rock and the night sky full of stars, and the milky way across it. Definitely seen it. when you look towards the core of our galaxy you're looking in the direction of at least 100,000,000,000 (100 billion) stars. Most of them are too faint to see, but on a clear night - and in the Sahara central desert that's every night - what you can see is many-many-many-uncountable stars. It just makes you pause and think, ya know. This is a hell of a place we live in. I was located between AinSala and Tamanrasset for a time. North of Ain Sala is the Tadmait plateau. Nothing there. You can find those places on Google Earth. But also you can get good views of the Milky Way from other places, with the right conditions. The less atmospheric moisture the better, and far from light sources. In Europe you can often see it well enough to know where it is, sometimes clearly. It's a good and beautiful thing to have in the game.

ok - I understand, but having many different weapons is maybe (to me) just doing the same roleplay with ... different weapons... not really a lot of different roleplays. But ok I hear you. You say you like to collect weapons - I understand that - so the DayZ game can be about how many different weapons you can collect, it's a kind of weapons collector game. OK So a DayZ game with 100 different weapons is twice as good as a DayZ with only 50 different weapons. I guess if you are a weapons collector you know that each of the 100 weapons is different from every other, and that makes them worth collecting. so 1 ) you can do different things with different guns 2 ) you can collect them

I've seen the Milky Way many-many-many nights very clearly in the Sahara no moisture, so no clouds no light pollution ya can see millions of stars.. just truthfully millions, dude and the Milky Way like a diagonal band of even more stars, across the sky ya can't mistake it Everyone should see that at least once in their life the Milky Way is our galaxy - it's where we live it's a damned impressive place we've got here, for sure

Some players have reported a "strange glow" on inventory items since the patch (true - in these forums) We thought it was probably fallout (also - Irish sits up every night gold-plating all his new pistols)

[ Did someone say grenade launchers could be exploited ? Give me the post reference I must have missed that. ] Your point of view is interesting. I read it carefully - more than once. I hope you can explain a little more. Let's not be vitriolic, ok ? There is something I'd like to know - How is a large range of weapons going to improve gameplay ? How does a large selection of weapons add something to the DayZ gameplay experience ? What does it add ? I guess the bottom-line question is: What do you - you personally - DO with a great range of weapons ? What do you want a wider range of weapons for ? What is it you do with them in the game, that improves your game? Please give us your argument to back up your statement. If it's a good argument, agree or disagree, I'll give you the beans. Let's not get over-excited about this, I'd just like to hear the reason for your point of view. It must be better than the " had sex with your mother and beat up your father " stuff. We could understand each other. So: What do you want to do with a larger range of weapons in the game, that improves your game? xx thanx

My Quick Opinion on Future Development of DayZ
pilgrim* replied to FanaticModz520's topic in General Discussion
depends what you mean by ''play '' play is a range of voluntary, intrinsically motivated activities normally associated with recreational pleasure and enjoyment but you are right that you can play a fun game without it being bug free -
It's like football Most people play football Hardly anyone watches it, as we know ask the fans

People are also talking about hand grenades confirmed in the next patch http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/200473-big-news-submachine-gun-tents-teddy-bears-and-much-more/page-5#entry2019284 I think thrown grenades are 95% useless in any situation BUT they are highly comical and very good for light entertainment Great for equipment-freak suicides and gone-postal PvP self-elimination If you've ever seen anyone throw a grenade into your building and watched it bounce back out at them, you'll know what I mean Or they just fluff the throw competely and blow themselves up, that's nice If a player says "grenade" their own squad runs away Grenades mean people shouting "shit, shit" and random explosions its all harmless fun, it lightens the day

can people see where you're about to spawn?
pilgrim* replied to Red_Ensign's topic in New Player Discussion
Yes they can usually see you a whole second or two before you get control of your character. so if you log in and another player sees you arrive in front of him, you are usually doomed I never heard of a player noticing someone log in and waiting to say "hi". -
Collision Bug that kills players instantly.
pilgrim* replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
yes - people have been talking about this more since the new patch : http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/200322-suddenly-my-legs-were-broken/#entry2015411 http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/200481-random-death/#entry2016686 http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/200693-broken-leg/#entry2018588 http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/200417-random-leg-breaking/#entry2016287 and http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/200925-dayz-ohhhh-you/#entry2020742 ( heh ) there is not much discussion because folk seem to take it for granted (ya know) was also a video "why did I die" but I can't find it now -
plough or bow - very nice to know it, but a pain in the neck to do it (frankly). As we have both learned from experience. You're into survival and you don't have a firestarter in your pocket, just an axe ?.. ok if that's your way I usually have a firestarter in a pocket with my loose change. Had this one here for 3 or 4 years, a couple of years or four .. And a little 2-inch flat tin with burnt cotton, is on the dashboard right now. I used it regular to light cigs when I used to smoke. Still use the firestarter anytime I'm away from the house. Weighs nothing, costs pennies, lasts for ever. In real terms, would you rather go into the hills/woods (for maybe weeks) with a box of matches or a firestarter ? no contest SURVIVAL! B)

I don't think you are allowed to use the DLC word on these forums Also there's no way a boot camp could teach you anything about interacting with or combating real players, because real players are COMPLETELY BATSHIT and there's no way a computer could ever simulate the stuff they do you just have to live it

Check out DayZ Wiki for surviving and navigating tips http://dayz.gamepedia.com/Tips_for_Getting_Started lots of useful stuff here, if you have not seen this Wiki already -
What you say about stones is true.. IRL stones, ya can find them anywhere, so who carries them around, backpackers ? Also you can dig for worms with anything sharp.. any cutting edge (bayonet, knife..) or even an arrowhead, the heel of your boot, an empty can, or a stick - if its strong enough to make a splint you can sure dig worms with it. Kzalor right on first post

you have a great and touching faith in humanity. And you are an example to us all. but the audience has to be willing to read, to assimilate what's written on flash cards (particularly after the "end of the moving images") This is why silent films died out Is joke .. Seek < The Gutenberg Parenthesis > for fun, intellectual profit, and major pub discussion topic

I think in any irregular warfare situation it's always a good idea to shoot the reporters first then you can get on with it

I have a pair of soviet ex-military binocs in a hard leather case, about 15 years old now. They are physically large, they are solidly made, the optics are good. They were NOT expensive. They are pretty much the same as the binocs in the game.
