I've been everywhere man... - A diary of a traveler

and while we're on ..."this reminds me of".... Friendly (sax riff at end - seriously brilliant) -
unfortunate inversion of two words which can both stand as verbs or as nouns without alteration. Sense dependent on word-order. Hwaet !

Ok, you want the server to tell you how you died so you can tell if it's wrong. hmm... you mean a debug screen for death I like the black screen. Simple. Don't fight it, it's really all you need to know.

I've been everywhere man... - A diary of a traveler

the little nameless village with 3 wells is not there ATM, friend.. it was there, but then it recently vanished further north of that "village" the lake you see on the map is empty, so there is no water anywhere north of the well where the village "was"- take plenty with you if you go to explore -
I'd like to see a black screen when I die, please then the beach

Dudes, how do you suppose the server can tell you that you glitched or you de-synched ?? think about it

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?
pilgrim* replied to RadikulRAM's topic in General Discussion
since before the patch I have 3x60 ammo for my M4 and a full 2x30 mag. not hacked. not duped. I don't use that gun a lot -
Why would you leave the North-east corner? Ever?
pilgrim* replied to maninthewall's topic in General Discussion
Don't tell everybody, dude, they'll find us. Also loot is more scarce now, they changed the garages (ya know). Had to leave and trek overland to find me a knife.. -
yes - this is all part of the game. I know my way around pretty well now - but in the past I have been shot while I was standing in front of a roadsign outside a little village, trying to work out what it said... like a tourist, like a crazy foreigner.. "thats a TH and that's a Z and " - bang .. someone mlust have laughed about that. But this is realistic, right ? If you have a couple of navigation techniques, to know which way is south, and you have just a slight idea of the map in your head.. then you can go anywhere, and sometimes you make mistakes and get turned around, turn up where you didn't expect. And this happens all the time in reality, specially in stress/warfare/survival situations I dont use a map ingame.. but when I log out Iknow roughly where I am, and after Im out of the game I look at a map.. decide what I aim to do next session.. "if I head south and keep the road on my right I get to Vybor, then cross, go west and head to the forest, try to avid the open country.. will be a strong risk of players moving up to NWAF around there, keep in cover as much as poss.. when I'm far west I can look at the villages and move south again " then when I play again I have an idea of where I'm going and what to expect. I dont look at the map from in the game (unless I have one ingame) and if I forget the directions, too bad. I think this is fair play. For me, its ONE MORE part of the fun. And damn; when I get to safer ground, I look down on a village from off under the edge of the forest, and I notice how good the trees and leaves are, and sometimes there is a spectacular sky - and thats part of the game too, in the middle of all the killing and mistrust and zombies. Someone should have an award for the graphics, the countryside in this game. Taking pieces of paper (just by my keyboard) counts as fair play too. If you want you can write down the names of the main towns, or 'towns to navigate by' and draw the cyrillic name with them, so you can compare by sight in the game. That seems to me ok too, and I have "I am friendly" written in different languages, in case I meet people I cant understand. Because I'm located in france, there is a good chance of meeting easter european players, dutch, germans, nordics, also even players from as far as ukrane or from arab countries. To me this is all cool and part of the game. PvP is great but if you do it without all the rest it makes the game smaller, and why limit yourself.. spending a day without seeing one player anywhere, can be great too.. you can really explore.. I like even the glitches, they save you from being complacent, I like it being "rough" odd things save you from having too much gear and being stuck with nothing "happening".. if a ladder kills you - well, hell, it was a rusty ladder.. and old houses are dangerous.. why complain.. half the world is zombies or dead, and you broke your leg.. its a good game experience. Or if you die suddenly, then join the 'Jesus with No Pants' people, for a change (but not for long?). I guess in a real apocalypse they would be around too.. whatever happens to you is part of the game, and this game is WIDE enough so that many things can happen, and you can make whole different games for yourself. If you look around the forum you will find many threads on exploring, and navigation, survival hints, direction finding, other players experiences when they are NOT pvp-ing. ... Enjoy.

there are just a few letters in cyrillic that don't appear in the 'western' alphabet. You look them up find out how to pronounce them, and write them on a paper then say the roadsign out loud like you're learning to read, and suddenly you get it for instance, the letter that lookes like a capital " B ", is pronounced more like " v " the letter that looks like a " p " is pronounced more like " r " so if it looks like "KoMapoBo" it says 'Komarovo' try it .. and put a couple more of odd looking letters on your list, you got it made. I'm saying - the roadsigns are NOT written in "a foreign language" the name of a place is the same in any language. learn to pronounce the few letters you don't have in the western european alphabet.. then you can read the placename.. adds fun to the game don't get shot while you're standing in front of a signpost

YOU ARE DEAD
-
that's where you went wrong ... 'arranging your gear' outside a supermarket .. in a new major town (or in any town) you should know that when you do this your countdown to Death - has started. Now it's just a question of .. time..
-
I liked the pop up stats screen in the Mod, and then later the Diary .. how many hours alive, players / zombies killed .. the first page in the diary saying "I have an M16 but I have broken my leg" stuff .. nice .. and the page turning sound .. This was all good, just as a little extra so you could privately keep track of those things.. however, this has nothing to do with Death.. anything about the player involved or the manner of your death, would lead to endless arguments, revenge, complaints - "I was shot so why does it say 'unknown'","why did one M4 bullet kill me?" "why did I die of shock?" . It would be technically difficult to implement and not useful for the player.. Also it is immersion breaking, because after death you do not have details of "what happened". The black screen death contributes GREATLY to immersion, and stress, and all the things that make DayZ unique and intense. IMO an in-life stats screen or diary, is cool .. only Not after you die
-
yes - but the server does not know who shot you, or 'what happened' to you in the moments before you die. a bullet hit, or fall damage, is added in to the total health effects for your avatar.. when that reaches X, you are dead. so if you were shot and fell off a ladder you might get 'you are dead because of "broken leg" or "shock" or even dehydration, why not ? all the server can tell you is the last calculation which took your avatar to "dead", it has no life record of where the different outside effects come from. It only has the total, and the last calculation among the many that it made so - Black Screen .." if you dont know what happened you weren't paying attention when you should have been. that's WHY you are dead." you are dead because - "you blew it" and if you are dead, what else do you need to know ? .. you are dead because - "DayZ is a dangerous place" ?? also "dead" means you don't get to know why, or what happens next. No filmic battle hero dramatic sugary stuff please, it's not realistic. You are dead because you blew it, not because you are a noble warrior. Respawning is good enough. xx

let people choose what item they want when they spawn
pilgrim* replied to valtsuh's topic in Suggestions
"what you want" - you go and find it, that's the game -
"The greatest pleasure is to vanquish your enemies and chase them before you, to rob them of their wealth and see those dear to them bathed in tears, to ride their horses and clasp to your bosom their wives and daughters." Temujin, Ghenghis Khan c1162-1227 while you're there check out Subutai .. my hero but Conan is cool too, no prob.
-
1 look for food 2 laugh, leave and head for the hills 3 kill them, check their loot (if 2 come in there is probably no one watching outside, unless they are a bunch of fools, so you could be nice, you got them cold ... but then you could never climb down the ladder till they all logged out, so.. ) 4 shoot them, collect bandages and rags for other players
-
in the game you have to look around to find a kitchen knife or a stick .. try for an axe hey - be careful - you have to do this before the zombies eat you it can be annoying, terrifying, fun, desperate, easy, long, quick, a disaster, incredible, hell, unique, unforgettable, a pain in the ass, ... etc..
-
ah .. yes... people still cling to the old fashioned idea about death... YOU ARE DEAD xx

Question about the certainty of this game
pilgrim* replied to TomatoSupra's topic in General Discussion
to tell you the truth I'm not the person to ask - I don't pay much attention to development schedules and the rest.. I just play the game today because at the moment .. heh ... I like playing it if it was alpha, beta or gold collectors edition, don't make any difference to me I only play because I think it's fun... or I'd be doing something else. the good thing about alpha is that the game elements change.. (changes, bugs, design decisions) which adds extra appeal and makes more interest.. I like that as part of the reason I enjoy the game. But it's CERTAIN I'm not here to protect my investment, or to study development team dynamics in a commercial entertainment-media enterprise .. or whatever.... or anything like that... I just "like" what's going on This here right now is my LEISURE TIME -is what I'm doing.. If BI vanished overnight and everyone was given their money back, I wouldn't even go on line to claim it I cant be bothered with that stuff, that's the aliens talking xx -
Question about the certainty of this game
pilgrim* replied to TomatoSupra's topic in General Discussion
you missed my point give me a list of the 'damned good games' made 'pretty quick' (all ya need is 60 million) and just note with that how long it took to make each 'damned good game'.. maybe your idea of 'pretty quick' and mine are not the same. For instance: if you could do it in 6 months with 100 million, could you do it in 1 month with 600 million ? Or, with twice as much money would it be twice as 'damned good' ? -
Question about the certainty of this game
pilgrim* replied to TomatoSupra's topic in General Discussion
"make a damn good game pretty quick" and all you need is 60 million dollars ? you ought to call the BIG games companies - they got the money - and you got the solution to their problems ! They sure will be pleased to hear from you. -
Why you don't need to server hop to get geared.. ever.
pilgrim* replied to Irish.'s topic in General Discussion
I was playing the Mod on a server where the admin had a helicopter, lived on the island and flew around with a few friends. He was the boss. One day one of his friends stole his helicopter. He went postal, raged all afternoon and then shut the server down - finish, end, server closed permanently.. guess he didn't want to play any more. I remember this every time "private server" turns up as a solution to anything. Sounds great in theory, but everyone knows in the long run how tacky they are - really (you remember) - it's only the few run by someone with a boy scout mentality, like a youthclub (and nothing wrong with that) .. who really let members play as they like, with no perks for the boys, unfair kicks, 'hassle the noobs', and the rest. Either that or its a bunch of beerdrinkers sitting around telling each other how great they are... and nothing happens. And the 'members' concept is not great unless you want to spend your life in the same bar with the same people. So private servers can be great for young kids and beginners, or for old players who want to tell war stories.. the rest are just tacky.. "private servers" isn't a solution to any problem at all. But it lets you cop out of the game, if you want. just my 5c, agreeing with Frosti, waiting for my regional ping to go down enough to play (school holidays here, rainy afternoon + streaming internet tv.. ekk) xx -
Hey - too much gear .. try throwing away some of the stuff you don't need. If you don't like fighting you dont need a ton of fancy guns and heaps of ammo (for a start).. make some space in your pack and go hunt a deer ... Also remember - you will feel GOOD to find yourself back on the beach with no gear. Then you can do what you like. And as you are going to end up back there anyway, you might as well do what you like now.
