you're way off dude. How many of your friends rent an Eve Online server ? And how much do they pay a month ? Find out how DayZ works before you start laughing

If you build your own hive for yourself I guess you can play a version of DayZ SA in private, but that's not what people have been discussing on these forums when they say "private servers". Read up the threads on the subject. At your home in private you can do anything with any game, if you have the skill. But that has nothing to do with the official real DayZ SA the game discussed in these forums. You are talking about some kind of independent unsanctioned mod, there are examples of those around if you look on the web, but they are highly experimental I think. They are not for people who just want to "play". Are we really talking about the same game ?

So far DayZ Overpoch Servers have Corrupt Admins/Players
pilgrim* replied to stupidgame2014's topic in DayZ Mod General Discussion
I think you got that right your problem is - you're playing Overpoch that's the way the game is, that's how it was designed to be, that's the kind of people who play (find a better game) xx -

hey - I didn' even know you could do this ... nice, thanx CR

crawl to a tree, anywhere near the same place where you can cut wood, look at the ground and use your mouse scroll to "search for kindling". do it five or ten times and you find sticks, then you can use them with rags to make splint
-
hey.. ok Beck, we're in the woods behind them.. give me the signal and come out shooting..

you're opening big can of worms here - the gun lobby have been strongly advocating "real skill" in gun shooting, meaning the better you are (you yourself, at home in front of the pc) the better you can shoot.. so the game uses "real" gun characteristics that the player really learn's to use. Now, if as you suggest, the computer boosts your accuracy (etc) the longer you play... meaning that if you log in and do nothing for 1000 hours you will be a much 'better shot' with higher accuracy (et al) than when you started.. This means the computer makes sure you are a bad shot at the start, and the computer makes sure you get better.. Then what happens to the "real learned skill that the gun lobby are so keen to see, where it is your true individual ability, together with the 'realistic' parameters of the gun (which do not change) that decides your shooting skill. ? So - firstly I understand that the Dayz developers decided against any skill levels, or 'learning levels' at all, right back at the start. And this is a firm done-deal decision (please correct me if I'm mistaken). And secondly - the highly vocal gun-lobby will do a postal berserker if you suggest that gun skills and gun parameters should be more under the control of the computer, and not less.. just saying.. for myself I'm against any kind of levels or learning.. sorting abuses would be hair-raising and it's not that kind of game, thank the gods.

you see the big shed/outbuilding in the corner of the compound, that you can't open the door ? you heard the noises coming out of there ?
-
you also need a private hive for the server unless you want to newspawn each time you log in how hard can that be ?
-
in the top of an apartment block, empty and spooky.. nothing there .. then freshspawn suddenly jumped out at me shouting "DONT SHOOT!" about 2 inches away. But I'd already shot him half a mag as soon as he moved. I remember the flashes lighting up his face. "oh shit sorry man you scared the shit out of me" but he was totally dead. I was very messed up because I'd killed an innocent man ... that was a long time ago

Has DayZ ever gotten you in real world trouble?
pilgrim* replied to trimpampano's topic in General Discussion
you mean you dudes still have something to do with 'the real world' ? -
no - turn your back on the bandit so he thinks you are not a threat bend over and look at the ground then put yourself in free view get your grenade out bandit will have no idea what you are doing, but you are not looking at him he sees you bend over and wave your arms about. in a while players will learn to know what this means maybe this is just a fun thing to do because no one is used to grenades yet but the point is, I'm not into being handcuffed or cooperating with bandits, etc it's not my thing maybe I'm stupid but if someone says "hands up" or "put your gun on the ground" the answer is "no" so when I tell them " *******you " I'm communicating with them. This is how I interact. It's part of the gameplay, my way. or simply start punching them, you might easily win, is fun too and greatly discourages banditry. if everyone did this every time - most bandits would give up

Was at Pustoshka yesterday : five cows in one field with two zombies chasing them around. Sat and watched. to live off the land you have to stick at it for a while
-
If they shoot you - they shoot you if they menace you, wait till they're close and then throw a grenade at your feet that's fun (this is the best use of grenades. Keep one with your medical supplies) - and also you get to shout "die like dogs, witless nerd bandit scum!"

it's always the right time for an Orbital Strike

Has Anyone Else lost Faith in Dayz?
pilgrim* replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Find kitchen knives in sheds, living rooms, (sometimes kitchens), barns, shops, Fire Station towers ... and many other places At the moment all I find in kitchens is: plenty of tactical Bacon, fishooks, LRS, ammo, Chernarus Police Uniform, powdered milk ... other stuff. can't move for guns and ammo and snaploaders and press vests - I throw them away That's the luck of the game, anything other players are looking for, I think I find it. (in fact I don't remember where I found fishooks) my only point is - there is NO problem. -

What are good game mechanics/ features from other games that work in dayz ?
pilgrim* replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
1 ) I don't know how a "jump/grab" might work, as a second option with "bunnyhop". I imagine "jump/grab/pull up" to go with "drop/grab let go" to get up an obstacle and to get back down. But ATM anyone walking off the edge of anything, relying on "drop/grab-let go" to get back to the ground - would have to be pretty brave, or desperate, IMO. But I don't know how many situations this would be useful in ? Getting off 1 story buildings ? Climbing trashcan and jumping up to grab ? Would definitely be very nice to have an action like this that worked with windows. If we can already break the windows, would be good to be able to climb in and out. 2 ) have masks obstruct vision seems logical.. same as we had NV goggles restricting field of view in the Mod 3 ) a melee 'parry' would be cool, it could change gameplay considerably, is interesting idea -
DayZ is far more optimized than you think tbh...

I been looking for a knife since the last patch .. but .. so what ? I play in the game.. I move around.. I find all kinds of stuff.. just luck has it I haven't found a knife guess I'll find one sooner or later ? I'd rather hang out in the game than argue about loot tables if anything is happening to the loot tables, it's happening to everyone, so what problem ? wish I could exchange my M14 with ACOG for a knife lol the devs are obviously doing a lot of work, is - not a problem - -
man you never goin to get back to the beach

The Biathlon competition involves shooting, between periods of intense physical activity. It is an olympic sport, used to be called "military patrol". I guess there must be some reason for the intense physical effort before and after each target shoot, to make this sport different from other olympic target shooting events ? If you follow the sport you will know that olympic level shooters drop points quite often, at a range of 50m.

As everybody knows the "good reason" is that they don't want you to play on their server I have been kicked as soon as I log in.. this happens regularly Sometimes the admin will tell you in global chat "f**** off this is private" but mainly they do not speak, as they know this could provide evidence against them, they simply kick you manually All these arguments have already been stated many times in these forums, there are long threads about admin powers Many admins kick, many admins loot farm. eg: There is an ad on these forums (yesterday) for a clan that has it's "own" server for "training and loot" and then "goes to high pop servers" There is also a simple software method to install an autokick on the admin interface it is not detectable, obviously, as it is between the admin's pc and his user interface, therefore between him and the server provider only. This is well known. [and could be policed by BI and/or the SPs, if they had the will and intention to do so] Some admins are honest and straightforward - these are fun and help the game a great deal. I myself wander around servers to see "how they feel" and to meet different players, admins, ATM I only join servers that keep the word "Public" in their title (because it is boring being kicked and reset so often) but even many of these use "public" to mean only the "public hive" and they are in fact also join=kick, clan only, or private servers when you log on. In reality (whatever the rules are) the admin's power is: 1) You can kick who you like for any reason or for no reason, it is impossible for the player to prove this has happened. 2) You can restart your server as many times as you like, every five minutes if you like, until you and your friends have found all the AKM's you want, or whatever you are looking for. If a server provider ever notices, you can claim technical problem, error, or bad players using foul/racist language, etc.. the server providers do not oversee how often the server is restarted. (admins usually justify these actions by saying "I pay, it's mine I do what I like") You will notice that these real abilities are very useful for abusive admins These real admin powers are not so useful for serious and honest admins. They can kick abusive players until the abusive player gets bored of coming back repeatedly. That's all. To global-ban anyone, a player requires hard evidence to present to BattleEye. This is true if you are an admin or not. Then BattleEye decides the case. xx
