consider an overhaul of "Hardcore" and "Regular" servers
pilgrim* replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
YES .. I see that. I checked now and have the first 30+ servers listed with 40/40 players and then a load after with 39.. Here it is 1pm, so last time I looked, and found 6/40 was 2 hours ago, maybe 2.5 ... 9:30-10pm your time. Ok so that's cool , I was getting depressed.. What happened ? Did I miss a nuclear news event or something? Did the Queen die this evening? (no offence, perish the thought) Thanks, I'd given up and I was about to can it for tonight. xx pilgrim -
consider an overhaul of "Hardcore" and "Regular" servers
pilgrim* replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
"in the other area" ?? I think you have mistaken my meaning: The server providers had to put up and maintain an agreed number of unrented, open servers, up front, at their own expense - to even qualify as server providers. Read up about it Santa fox. These servers (which must be maintained at a fixed proportion of all servers) are not rented to any paying admin, so they are always open to all players. They have standard names, and are often full (of course). You can see them in the server list. On the other hand, these 'no admin' SP-provided servers are where "hackers" are most likely to mess around. -
consider an overhaul of "Hardcore" and "Regular" servers

Might just add that tonight 26/07 its Saturday night 11 pm.. and on my server list without any search filter the top population on ALL servers is 6 I have about 50 servers showing 6 players, and then less and less going down the list. I'm located in France, so I see most European servers, also Australasian, USA, et al. I set the ping filter to 300 simply to see whats running. If on Saturday night there is a max population (worldwide?) of 6, it's not surprising there is less than a quorum on many Hardcore servers. Usually at 9-10 pm Saturday the internet is so overpopulated (plus 30 channels of web TV sent out by my SP) that my ping is too lousy to play. But routinely, even after 10pm when traffic quietens down a little, the first 5 or 6 low-ping servers (France, UK, Germany) are full 40/40, with many others at 10+ or 15+ players EDIT: in fact this has been a temporary thing - 2 hours later I have 30+ servers listed with 40/40 population (thanx Chroma). Low populations now only in France for Saturday night. Must be some kind of "local religious festival" ?? Plenty of 40/40 in UK, Germany, also N Europe and Spain, Russia, USA already ... just not here There are 40/40 hardcore servers in Germany and UK I see .. but not many. Still, there are many regular severs that are running tonight with only 2-6 players.. and it only takes a thousand players worldwide to fill up 35 regular servers to 40/40 .. or continent-wide at least ?? sorry, I'm totally babbling (shit) -
I think DayZ is a survival game as Pvt_Larry says. For myself, I find the "=wham=black screen=you are dead=" really horrible, more shocking and realistic than any film-cut sequence of someone falling down in a hail of bullets etc.. This is the only game that ever gave me even a tiny impression that I just actually got killed.. other games you know really the 'death sequence' just means "start the level again" Same for the rest of the game. other player blood and gore is not necessary to understand what is happening, you see a blood spash from a hit. Your own blood and gore comes in the form of a message "I feel blood dripping.." and in the game, that is enough to freak you out, isn't it?.. it scares me, for sure.. As a visual effect it doesn't change the gameplay at all. Also, to improve visual effects there are whole areas and themes that are being worked on now, and others that could be worked on. e.g. the look and the variety of zombies is going to improve, I'm sure. Player animations will be advanced. Really "blood and gore" does not equal "scariness". In this game hearing a bullet go past your head is "scary" ..or hearing a zombie run up behind you. If you want "frightning" - go on a server at night without turning up your gamma (play FAIR) and see what you can loot in town with just a hand torch. The first zombie that turns up out of the dark you will scream aloud at home in front of your keyboard. Also turn off the music, the game is more scary when you can hear what is going on. IMO

In a survival game with severely limited resources, WTF...

I think a parry movement would be a great idea, and it might be technically possible in the game. -

I am sorry. I did not intend to offend you. My recreational use of the English language pleases me about as much as the employment of my own procreative apparatus for it's intended purpose - it's ok dude, don't worry yourself on my account. -
Yes, I'm not proposing fishing as the best way of life in DayZ. Just saying that if you come across a fishook and rope, that's all you need, so keep them, they dont take up much space. Maybe one day they will come in useful.. like keeping rags and morphine. At pres. the easiest way to eat is to loot houses, sure, but this may not always be the case (I dunno). And perhaps for some reason you want to avoid contact with other players for a time ? (server full of enemies ?) The wasteland areas are very deserted, and even small villages are always empty. Seems as though 99% of all players choose the option of going to the large places to loot, and fighting other players who do the same.So if you have one or two bits of survival equipment you can live quite easily. If you are solo, or sniping, or "not server-hopping" or 'roleplayng' (is PvP not roleplay ?), or just feel like moving through wilderness.. then this is a workable option. With permanent storage or bases it maybe becomes more interesting. I'm not defending it, and there may be other ways of fishing, as you propose - why not - I'm just saying its workable. But if you're already starving and you decide to start looking for fishing gear (why would you do that ?) .. well, you'll die.You don't 'fish to eat' every day - you do it once and stock up on meat. If you survive in the wilderness you can move about quite freely across the whole map, you can observe other players easily, and you can decide when to go into urban areas. This is NOT roleplay- but it IS a totally different game to spending your whole day in Berezino or other built-up location. Any supermarket or piano house or factory might have a sniper watching it.. that can be you. Players almost always do the same things. They got no survival instinct ! You get to do overwatch on the people who live out of cans. Or maybe you like reading books - whatever.

"a tai sabaki" - it' a kind of sushi ... right ? "followed by a face stomp" - ok, I know that, that's the mentally retarded kangaroo ... right ? do you know Machu Such'i Qhuchi ? -
You don't ever throw away your axe, dude .. you pick the spade up in your hands, dig worms, throw the spade away .. why you want to carry a spade around? yeah - try fishing somewhere quiet - fishing is a survival technique for living in the wilderness.. no point fishing if you're in the middle of your friday night Berezino PvP fest.. that would be - silly.. it's a mindset.. when you want to PvP you don't say, "I want to PvP so now I have to go find some ammo and a gun to put the ammo in, and maybe a sight too, before I can even start.. wow, that's so complicated and long ". You don't think like this, and in fact you've been picking up ammo since you spawned, so you dont see it as a hassle. Do the same for fishing/cooking gear and you'll understand how easy it is. But no point trying it in the city. You can't fish in water pumps. Someone will shoot you. Play as you like.

What Weapons Warrant Being Hyper-Rare and/or Regulated?

"Ukranian rebels" are (unfortunately, in my view) supported militarily and financially by Russia, and in addition Ukranian rebels have quartermasters, logistics officers, transport pools, stores, communications networks, paymasters, they have money and intelligence, how are they different from any other contemporary time-serving weaponized military political organization ? But you say "even they" ? Are you assuming that the Ukranian militias.. or the Ukranian people in general, are a type of ancient primitive tribal society, that you might expect them to throw rocks at each other, but no! .. "even they" have assault rifles all over the place, as common as poor-quality cigarettes, perhaps as common as their primitive tin knives and forks ? However - tell me how many active serving militia are contained in this organization ? So tell me how many assault rifles they have ? A little over 45,000,000 people live in the Ukraine - that's forty-five million, OK ? - so exactly what percentage of the population have assault rifles ? really ? well - less than one person in one hundred thousand has any kind of assault rifle You grasp of geopolitics is very thin. Go to the Ukraine - it's a big place - you can drive for days, you won't see an assault rifle, the people DONT have those. Check in all the houses and all the baby carriages and all the car boots, you'll find fewer assault rifles in the Ukraine than in the USA. You often mention 'reality' in DayZ. Do you suggest that 1 player in 100,000 should have an assault rifle, to 'mirror' events in the Ukraine ? [edit: The individual's personal attitude is the only thing that has ever affected human affairs. European history does not hinge on calibre or camoflage pattern: we should try our best to understand what is happening in the Ukraine, before our ignorance kicks us in the face. ] -
Six Upcoming Developments That Will Change DayZ for the Better - Loot Rarity (wait, whaat?)

Well .. Bohemia Interactive IS an industry proven game developer I guess SonyOE could come and discuss H1Z1 with Bohemia Interactive, and BI could give them some pointers .. if S0E wanted to discuss it's decisions with an industry proven game developer like BI ... and not just rely on ideas from it's own concept creators. Say! - we could all ask Disney what they think, they are so cool ! and wealthy too. -
consider an overhaul of "Hardcore" and "Regular" servers
pilgrim* replied to joe_mcentire's topic in Suggestions
The Server Providers are obliged to put up one 'open' server run by the SP, for every X servers they rent out. I don't remember how many rentals per one SP server, it's in the original agreement. (sorry, I haven't searched it up) Are these SP servers all 'softcore' ? The names "regular" and "hardcore" stem from the same argument already ongoing in the Mod about 3pp & 1pp. The admins who decided to switch off 3pp were 'hardcore'. They already saw themselves as a minority - the Lutherians of the gaming world. Call them 3P and 1P ?? Or 'Beginner' and 'Regular' ?? -

Well, you're looking into the forest in the image, and there is a border. What I would do first (but this might not be the problem): Maybe your color calibration is out, put your LCD to factory settings, set your gamma to 1 in case you've been messing with it, look at a RGB color test card. The web will tell you how to set up color and luminosity and contrast.. or you maybe have software with your graphics card. Also could be your graphics card overheating, ya know.. does it's fan run? (this is just stuff I'd look at first, maybe it will help)

It works pretty good in fact. All you need are the hook and the rope, you pick them up sooner or later as you wander around and you keep them - they take up 2 spaces. When you feel like it, if you're in the mood, you go find some worms.. you just truck around until you find a spade or a hoe and you dig some worms. Then you throw the spade away again. You can find one or the other of these implements anywhere, in low risk areas.. it's not a hassle. Then you cut your ashwood stick. You already know where ash trees grow, because you've seen them in your travels. Once you know the tree - you know it, and once you notice where those trees are growing, they are always there every time you go paste. You pick up the stick in your hands so as not to waste space and you creep off into the wilderness, when you get to your isolated fishing spot you craft the stuff you need. When you're tired of fishing you recover your rope and your hook and you throw the stick away. That's why people fish with sticks in the first place. You need a knife to prepare the fish into steaks to cook. Cooking is the same - all you need to carry around is a stone and some matches.. You have rags already. it's not complicated. Craft it all on the ground. Keep the stone afterwards, to save yourself hassle next time (and to sharpen your axe before you light the fire). Nice. Nothing to simplify. [build your fire under a tree, or unexpected rain will put out your matches when you try to light it] [your axe and your knife wear down fast. So def. keep the fireplace stone. Whe the axe is damaged and you cut down 1 tree, afterwards the axe will be Badly Damaged. Use the stone to sharpen it. Same with the knife. So your knife and axe are always Damaged , but as long as you got the stone, you're ok, you get used to it. So 1 stone and 1 matches are all you need for hunting/cooking]

don't knock it DaZy the unicorn-pig says: never forget, kids => holding down W can get you out of trouble faster than anything except death ! but.. the new Experimental update right now, seems to be introducing some form of permanent storage, plus object duration through resets, and continuing spawns between resets - or some limited subset of these things.. says the chat. This will - soon - affect hopping and loot farming and other gameplay.. so the OP purpose for this thread may need revision shortly ??

you mean a randon log-in location only when you join a new sever - to defeat 'server hopping' for loot - to encourage players to stay with one server I understand your point, it is logical. For myself - I like moving from one server to another, I am a Wandering Player, not a "hopper" I'm not much of a murderer or a military looter. I might be a sheep-stealer ( but I deny it ) A random location the first time you arrive on a server, puts you in danger ( and who needs danger ? ) The anti-ghosting timer is already a sanction against rapid logging in/out, and therefore also against changing servers but still .. what you say makes sense, I just have a feeling players won't like it. The Clans that gear up on their "Join=Kick private" clan server to go PvP on other servers, especially will not like it. Any groups that raid "other people's" servers, won't like this idea at all. xx

Absolute break of authenticity ? After the owner's death the tent continues because it does not die with the owner After his own death the owner continues, and comes back to the tent because he does not die either. .. hmm.. explain which of these is the break with authenticity ? [edit: e47 said it first - I musta read the post in some other reincarnation] -
What's the best DayZ tutorial to read?
pilgrim* replied to OptiKill34's topic in New Player Discussion
Read Ella's Standalone Guide right here in the forums, it's got a lot of good stuff in it. Then there are plenty of other intros and tips on youtube (and it's true as TomatoSupra says, some things change every couple of weeks) Best thing to do is start playing, get killed a lot and find out all the different ways that can happen, then start trying to avoid death. It's not easy! By the time you've been killed 6 or maybe 10 times you start having some ideas, and you know what questions to ask. Also you can ask players in the game - but mainly they might shoot you, rob you, or make you drink disinfectant, or break your legs, - but some might be friendly. Enjoy. -
no. no .. don't remind me.. dont ! after all these years of therapy.. and now.. you .. you reminded me... !

I assumed it was a fungus that grew on your brain ? After years of high-level research in secret labs and and damp abandoned garages ... - I called it 'DZV' to have a name (not official at all). DayZ-Virus= DZV or how about Brain Fungus Growth ?

Make server restart warning compulsory
pilgrim* replied to General Zod's topic in General Discussion
I apologise if I was offensive Barnabus. I felt that I was answering like with like. However.. sorry about that. Without entering the question of who pays for what rights/obligations, server administration, clubs, private/public, hoppers.. etc : Beck's idea is: If you are an admin, and you push the restart button.. there is an automatic message put out in the game "5 min to restart" and there is a 5 minute countdown for you, the admin, and then the restart. This has nothing to do with admin rights at all .. it only really affects the players who are caught out by abrupt unscheduled restarts. An auto-message would save bad feeling and argument, as seen on these forums, where the worst and most childish admins are giving admins in general a bad name (few of the posts are about club servers, they are mainly about "admin shot us/we shot him/he reset" . If a timer was built in, no choice, then there could not be controversy about restart use. And for admins who use the regular scheduled restarts, it would have no effect at all.. just a warning message as a small politeness to your users whoever they are (this is pretty standard with any software). It's not always easy to track the exact time when you are in-game and excited, and different servers can be a minute or so either side of the time-line, as we know. If you disagree.. then .. you disagree. No offence (+ non taken). enjoy
