    First Balancing pass on firearms

This seems to be the case, IMO Mosin with LRS = The crosshairs describe a fascinating progression of curves and loops around and throught the target, highly unpredictable. I could watch it for hours. At 300m the crosshairs move over an area of diameter maybe 6_8 feet?. more ? However, I understand it's what the gun lobby has campaigned for - "realistic MOA accuracy + sway" to simulate a real gun. Also a shootist faction desires that the compensator should have no effect on accuracy, because it is an attachment that has no effect on MOA accuracy in real life. No one suggests how to increase shooter accuracy in the game, when the compensator is added. Anyway.. yes there is a very interesting sway on the mosin+LRS at present. I wonder what the expert snipers think ? Myself, I use it as a spotting scope, it's not much useful apart from that. If there's any action, I just drop it and go to M4, if it's still there later I pick it up again. You can't predict the crosshair sway movement so you can't compensate for it, so your 'sniping' is really long-rang snapshooting. Does anyone hit targets at 500m with the Mosin+LRS today ? No one else has commented on it ..

    First Balancing pass on firearms

Yep, at the moment you can take them off and throw them away and it don't change a thing. That's pretty realistic - think how much money the army will save when it finds out.

    First Balancing pass on firearms

What I pointed out is that combat goes on all the time .. so simple .. but it is not the "endgame" or the "final result".. it is just an element of the game, like eating beans is an element of the game. You seem to be saying "because you have to eat all the time, and because you have to find beans all the time, so eating is the endgame and even if you do other things you will always end up eating beanz". So what ? But eating beans is not the final result of DayZ. We both like the game. (but this is not much about firearms)

    To whoever's named " What? "

hmmm - axe in backpack, sounds like not a beginner maybe. you have to be careful with the "please help me I speak not english please" line, that doesn't make him any less ruthless than a fluent english speaker and be careful of players with odd names, and girls, and also guys with no pants, and players in masks, and.. damn - ya have to be careful with everybody

    First Balancing pass on firearms

Even if you had a game that was 100% survival, full of survival equipment and objectives and survival problems.. but .. in with all the other elements you had pointed sticks that you could sharpen... and IF the game permitted you to poke other players with your pointed stick and steal their stuff - then there would be PvP. You dont need any special weapons or complex armaments, a rock or your bare hands is just fine. also - there would be PvP all the time whatever else you did in that survival game. And other human players are always more interesting and unpredictable and dangerous than any AI, this is the only reason we play online. This has nothing to do with "endgame" it is just one element in the game No one has to emphasise or de-emphasise PvP.. If the game permits combat it will happen with whatever list of weapons is available, or with frying pans and boots and screwdrivers if that's all there is. °°°°° I think you can see three main areas in DayZ: there is Survival; PvP; and Zombies If each of these 3 themes was equally represented, so they each had the same 'weight', then the game would start reaching maturity, yes? No one would be forced to play the total 'zombie' game, or the total 'PvP' game, or the total 'survival' game, but all 3 of them would form a bigger game that you could move about in freely (and naturally). Just one easy example - if there are tents or camps out in the woods, then hardcore PvP-ers are going to move out of the towns and go looking for trouble in the wilderness'. Stands to reason - this will change the gameplay. And there is a lot that can/will be done with zombies, not just to make theim more dangerous, or more zombies, but what they do in the game .. how they act. Easy example.. some areas having more zombies than other areas.. so if you go there you know you run greater risks.. but if you go to 'easier' areas you will face more players. (I suggest this just to show that interesting things can be done, I dont know what's planned). The game started up with PvP implemented, so there was a game to play. Now the other areas are being brought up to par, and all being refined. Looks good and promising to me. The gameplay changes already (but no one really notices?) => you all realise, the main real use and interest of the extended and 'rare' weapons list is: with persistent storage and all these neat weapons, the first thing that will happen is players will hoard these fancy guns and ammo - and the next thing that will happen is everyone else will set out to steal all that stuff ?? That's their true in-game function.

Who's to say you are really a survivor?

    Skanked ? or Press-Ganged ? (again?)

Help I'm stuck in the middle of no where!

Does it look like this ? (these are the debug plains) if so, you are in the debug plains, they are off the edge of the game map and stretch forever they have always been a terrible place, since the beginning you could search the forums - other players have been lost in the plains, and give advice but the end is not always happy. or try http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/191410-dayz-support-stuck-characters/ maybe they can help with ... the debug plains (but if you can see trees, grass and stuff then you are still on the game map, so it's no great problem worst that can happen is starvation)

    STABLE UPDATE TODAY!

So interesting - does the name randomspawn mean that you random spawn posts too ?
  13. pilgrim*

    STABLE UPDATE TODAY!

yes, I guess - only that periodical loot respawn means there is no need to restart a server (except to get rid of loot dropped by players) ?

    STABLE UPDATE TODAY!

I agree. Except that it seems there must be a limit on an object's persistance, or else payers could leave stuff forever hidden away. I don't know how persistance is going to be capped.. seems they are working on this at the moment. After a cetain time lying around without being moved, objects must vanish. Just they won't despawn when the server is reset. So - tents are useful. However there must be some time limit set on tents also, as there was in the Mod - where if you did not visit your tent for a fixed time (was it 10 days realtime ?) then your tent vanished. I don't know how this stuff will be regulated. It's in the works. I hear that another aim of persistance is to give better control of loot items, so that objects can be regulated to be truely 'rare' or 'common', I guess by controling how many are in play. Something you should all know about tents (any kind of tent) is that they are going to be really easy to find. IMO there is NOT anywhere on the map where you could hide a tent. It is not like the Mod. The number of trees has been greatly reduced, a lot of forest has been replaced by open ground. Most of the remaining forest you can see through from one side to the other. If you put your tent in "a place nobody goes" then that will be exactly where players go to look for it. There is not much wilderness. And tents are rare (at the moment) and you can stash a huge heap of loot in them, so a hidden tent will be a highly sought-after target, I think. - just saying-

    M1A2 Abrams ?? M1A2 !!! Abrams ???? Abrams ???? M1A2 !!! wha ? M1A2 Abrams ?? M1A2 !!! wha ?

    STABLE UPDATE TODAY!

it means if you leave your gun and a can of beans under a tree and exit the server, and you log back in to the same server tomorrow your gun and your beans will still be lying under the same tree ok - that's the idea so when an object is on the map it stays on the map until it is destroyed or you take it away to another server

    Can people stop saying...

no single word has an absolute meaning in any language (hope that doesn't shock anyone) - words only have meaning in context and 'context' is not absolute either, it is the intent of the person speaking, his use of words and word arrangements in the whole subject and context is also a general agreement about the subject between the person using the word and the person hearing the word hehe - so now ya know ... language is great because it manages to get through all those difficulties so people can understand one another - we understand each other all the time every day if someone deliberately makes a distinction between two similar words, most people can understand what they're getting at no need to be squitty about it

    Experimental Expectations?

"experimental" can only be experimental because it has players in it - if there were no players there would be no experiment, right ? so it's an opportunity for the players and the devs to see what happens. This is cool, I don't know how people can find an issue in it. Go into experimental and - not only play the game but play with the game, see what happens, say what happens, find out what happens, discuss it, report it, have fun and see what comes up from the fun, what works, what is strange, what is bugged. It's a great opportunity to get with the game and the development right where it's happening. How can anyone have any doubts about this ? - explore, enjoy, report, discuss, play ... Nice feature

    First Balancing pass on firearms

tongue in cheek, dude, but let's not go to flame and snappy-comebacks or the thread will get lost I have an opinion about the weapons in DayZ, and I have some knowledge of programming, I'm interested in the effect on gameplay - and I'm interested in the mathematics of this problem, which most players are not. Trouble is, the explanations are just a little bit too long and too dry for all players to follow (even if they wanted to).
  20. Ah YES ... you must be referring to games from the guys with a lot of staff who created Mickey Mouse or the other BIG guys, and the other BIG and FUN products sold to the radical gaming world You remember Mickey, he's the copyrighted dude who hangs out in the mall with the Big Plastic Head he's the symbol of how big teams can make great consumer products We want everything in the world to be Big and Mass Marketed, yes ? And lets get rid of individuality, and niche markets, and minority interests Let's go for megacompanies who have a "games" division inside their "entertainment" division You really really have no idea what money is ... at all, right ? I'll bet you listen to music too, without any idea of who sells it to you or why you like it. Read wikipedia and look round the web, RESEARCH, find out about development, investment, product placement, media, the entertainment market, targeting, advertizing, budgets, turnover ... Find out what kinds of money you are talking about, how it moves, what the results are. It's important in your life. enjoy !

    First Balancing pass on firearms

Yes so am I. I am against .. what I said I was against. What is wrong with you dude? Are you awake ? We agree on that one. Please don't start flaming, it hurts my eyes to see you urinating on the language. Thanx. With Gews' contribution the discussion has a factual basis and has become worthwhile. Though expressing some irrational anger (and frustration), which seems based on incomprehension. Some players complain up front, but are obviously not ready to try out the new elements. Other players still don't understand, for instance, how you must program a compensator in a digital 3D game, to actually have an effect on the player's shooting in the game, and I think they never shall understand. There is still difficulty in grasping the requirements of digital mathematical simulation of targeting parameters unrelated to mechanical dispersion .. among some players. It is a minority interest. But it's now a real discussion, yes ?

    the new girls/robots/crackheads in town

You're not under any obligation whatever to control all the crap that goes on inside your head There's just the legal obligation to control what you do with your body This is defined in law under "being an adult member of society". You have rights and obligations. ya know ? It's not complicated.

  24. It's easy to see you do this sort of work a lot and you're expert at it. Did you ever think of opening your own games studio and becoming extremely wealthy ?
