  1. No - no problem. Go to Steam Library, right click on the DayZ game, choose Properties .. in there choose the Beta tab and select "opt out" of Beta versions. As soon as you do this you see the little downloading line at the bottom of the window, and in less than 1 min the game is ready to go. All your game position and equipment remains the same - it is all stored on the server. Then later "opt in" to beta with the same process as above if you want to play Experimental. As long as you are playing on Stable, your character will be saved even if you load up the next version of Stable.. anytime you are on Stable, the char is saved in the "stable Hive" (if there's a problem, as happens occasionally - it is with the servers or the hive) Also if you play Experimental, you have an "experimental character" saved in the "experimental Hive" so in fact you can have 2 characters, saved in 2 diff hives. They are seperate. Is cool, because on Experimental you can (for instance) run that character around around and act the fool - no trousers etc - or experiment, and still have your serious survivor character safe on the Stable Hive, for when you go back there. So you should always find your character and his gear and location stored on the Hive, whatever happens to your software at home. This is the theory at least. xx
  2. ..etc..... OK people what causes this is: You have been playing Experimental and you are running version 0.48 But at present you are playing Stable Stable is version 0.47 Go into Steam, into DayZ properties, and opt out of Beta versions. Steam will re-download version 0.47 for you. (takes 1-2 mins) Then the stable game will run perfectly. When you want to play Experimental, opt in and reload version 0.48. When you open DayZ game look at the top right-hand corner of your screen, the Version Number appears there. You are all playing Standard but running Experimental 0.48 OK ?? enjoy

    Zoom Bug?

have you changed your keybindings maybe ? I suggest this but - just now I logged in, and I found that when I drank a canteen, my character ran three steps forward, drank the canteen and then lay down. don't laugh I swear this is true I thought someone was messing with me and changed server, drank another canteen to check and the same thing happened. Even if I had a key sticking I dont see how this sequence could happen. I haven't changed any keybindings for a long time so there's not a double function. my version number says 0.48 but I am on stable tonight. Most probably not related, but I found one bug in the new release - I have noticed that if you "search for berries" holding your gun, the gun stays in your hand, then after the search it is no longer held correctly, when you raise it you can't sight down it, it's at a strange angle. To correct this you have to put it down and pick it up again. good luck [edit]: later tonight, whole series of messed up events, again not on same server, different players present - drank water from creek - result was I lay down in the water, stood up with the handcuff animation on. could not run, could not roll, but could still sight my gun, which was in my hands behind my back pointing at the ground, so it sighted on a closeup of ground. Did not want to log out - being "handcuffed" but eventually did so, and logged in again ok, alive. I assume this is my local installation falling to bits, but it's 100% abnormal and disturbing (scares the sheeet out of me), I dont have an explanation at moment. I guess your problem is just coincidental with mine .. ?

Things I immediately noticed about today's release...

I did NOT SAY : <<<<<< >>>>>> You faked the post - I guess it's an honest mistake, but this above is NOT my post. OK ? Check back and see where you went wrong. Yo Cullis - what I SAID was: To reply (anyway): I have 'tried shooting in real life'. I am not a dedicated shootist. But I have shot with a reasonably high powered scope. It is not similar to the in-game experience.. but maybe I can live with it.. but maybe not.. and maybe I'll have to... Everybody has the same parameters in the game, so we are all even. I am not shouting "this must be changed, OMG" etc.. I'm interested to try it out and see what I make of it.. at the moment I have problems. I went out and bought myself a new mouse this afternoon (heh, so now you all goin' to die). I wanted to talk to other players who are dedicated snipers, to see what they make of the LRS+Mosin now. anyway - not my post dude, you pasted my name on another player's post, shame on you. xx

    First Balancing pass on firearms

you can see this with the ACOG because there is no zoom, the crosshair centers (almost) and then starts to move again. On the LRS you don't see it when your right mouse does the breath control and the zoom in, because the crosshair steadying lasts about the same time it takes for your zoom-in movement to take place. Also, the crosshair does not exactly center when you use the breath control, but it moves closer to center immediately for a very short while. I don't know if it is useful to use this 'breath control' on a different key, the zoom on your right mouse, and compensate with the mouse, all at the same time. Is worth trying out. For the gun kick, sitting or crouched - I like sitting, but I always think of it as being a one-shot event .. hit or miss, because it's as foxdie_01 says, the sight goes miles up across the screen when you shoot. A second shot is kind of ...a later event.

Artificial bait for fishing (fishing lure)

The fishing lure you suggest is the same (in the game) as Fishing Bait Fishing Hook + Earthworm => Fishing Bait so it would be the equivalent (without crafting) of a crafted item already existing in the game I would like to see "empty can" that you could then collect worms in. Many worms in one can. In the Mod, the empty can was the standard requirement for boiling water to avoid illness. I guess it will come back?

    First Balancing pass on firearms

LRS zoomed in: sway at 400m standing = 7' square sway at 400m sitting or crouched = 4' square prone = 3' (?) There is a slight advantage to the sitting position, over crouched The movement of the sway crosshair is such that the point of aim is seen to move inside a rectangular box, rather than inside a circle. This is based only on observation, not on the math generating the movement. Because the movement describes a series of hyperbolic curves (with a period of about 1.5 sec.) it can be predicted in advance over a fraction of a second, so there is a possibility of some correction and 'rapid reaction' shooting. The "zoom in" and the "control breathing" are the same action on the LRS. Holding the zoom for a length of time does not influence sway, but gives the "holding breath" sound effect. When zoomed out (no zoom) the sway is greater on target than zoomed in. At distances requiring the LRS I do not think snipers would often shoot without using the zoom. I did not test 'prone' much, because a bunch of Scandinavians appeared in my rear, and I chose discretion. This shows how little I trust the LRS scope at present. I don't think it is an option except for take-your-time-all-day static sniping. Hitting a moving target is entirely chance, in game I wouldn't even consider it. Feel free to tell me I'm wrong on any point (I may be). Also the numbers don't give a sense of "what happens" or "difficulty". e.g. If the crosshair is moving (first approximation) inside a 6 foot box, it swings - at a steady speed but haphazardly - across a surface area of 36 square feet. A man sized target is less than 12 square feet. So for two thirds of the time, while you are placing your shot, the crosshair will be definitely OFF any part of the target. Sitting or prone you will only be absolutely off target about half the time, at 400m. Also the crosshair does NOT return to center at any moment (you do not know where the center of your target area is located). This makes sniping, at best, long winded and slow, even on stationary targets. Snapshot rections are the most important sniper attribute. [lol, the conclusion:] This means that 16 year old players with their faster reactions and good hand eye coordination will snipe consistently much better that 23-30 year old gun experts with any kind of real life weapon experience. xx

got any vids of your shooting, would be interesting to compare ? I'd like to see how people with LRS deal with sway now. Some say they like it.

    First Balancing pass on firearms

would be interesting to see a vid of you taking the shot, if you have hit anything since 0.47 .. foxdie_01 can do it, as his video shows ... you notice he has an ace wrist for mouse comp, and he also takes morphine (I hear) I include foxdie_01's video here to illustrate. As you can see, he compensates with the mouse, but also has to 'snapshoot' at the moment his crosshair moves over target. This is surely unusual for sniper methodology ? (good shot, for sure) In this type of situation, I think "breathing control" was a useful and realistic shooting modifier in the game.

you're at about 100m here without zooming, right ? Maybe I'm mistaken. Roof of the house block on the side of the square .. 90-110m to civic building.

    First Balancing pass on firearms

I have argued the difference between gun accuracy and shooter accuracy (which I guess you know, better than me) and hoped to point out the limitations of reproducing MOA accuracy in-game for "gun realism". So now you have a dispersion value and a sway value - which would you prefer that the compensator influences ? Frankly I'm interested in game structure - I mean I'm interested in online computer games, I don't spend a great deal of time on guns as real-world objects. I know that a compensator is designed as an aid to the shooter, and I also know from the many posts here that messing with MOA is anathema and heretical, because of course in the real world the compensator does not change the gun's MOA. So should a compensator produce less sway - in the game simulation ? Interesting problem for the advocates of realism. And the true problem is what it has always been: how to program a satisfying range of virtual weapons in a computer game. °°° [edit: or are you saying that compensators don't change anything, in the real world, and their use is simply a mistake?]

yes I see what you're getting at

Things I immediately noticed about today's release...

Yes - I can confirm this, I tried it 5 mins ago. Reduces sway by about half, you are right. I am convinced. Makes shooting possible. But no I did not have a broken arm. I'm pretty sure about that, the sway was ok before the patch, was not ok after. Seems it's the morphine reduces sway, that's all i'll test some more but Good Grief ! You realise what this means when word gets around?

Things I immediately noticed about today's release...

That's not the same for me, def. Isn't this from before the .47 release ? Are you serious about morphine - you take morphine to shoot ?

    Anyone else hear moaning in-game?

yes don't talk about it °°°°° edit: also out in the country just now miles from anywhere I just got a HUGE effing EXPLOSION right between my ears, like it was an inch behind my head And it scared the rabbits and the wildebeest out of me, for sure players on UK servers, maybe like to joke around ?

    we need more distinctive characters!

some of the boys like complex military solutions for player identification because they like to play with complex gung-ho military ideas, it's a macho fun-thing but in practice, being able to recognise players .. would simply help a lot, like in real life ? it would be fun too, and the game would gain plenty http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/205460-the-new-girlsrobotscrackheads-in-town/#entry2061318

Things I immediately noticed about today's release...

More sway on Mosin LRS than before - or maybe it's just me. I decided it's really not worth using. At 400m your crosshair swings around in loops about 8 feet diameter on target (about half the side of a shed, or a bit more). This is when you are rested and crouched/sitting. Anyone confirm .. maybe I'm having a bad day?
