I was sniped in the back of the head, one shot, while drinking (a number of patches ago) and suffered zero damage, but my mil. helmet went from pristine to ruined. There are mil. helmet and motorbike helmet tests on youtube.

let's go back to the greater issue "easy but tedious" just about sums up DayZ ? I get the same feeling reading some posts, don't you agree ? there is a whole new spawn system implemented on experimental .. the spawn system in it's details is ... experimental. I read that you used to like DayZ when there were plenty of cans of food around, so you could load up and then .. do less tedious stuff ? Tell please, I perhaps misunderstood - what thrill did you used to have as a freshspawn that is lacking now ? Was it the easy to find cans of beans ? - They were thrilling.

What was the endgame in the Mod ? well, in the vanilla mod.. at the end (leaving aside the scripters) how all the long-term players ended up was: 1 ) Collecting gear and hiding it in tents .. so you had 2 of everything, and maybe 2 or 3 main tent locations probably on more than one server 2 ) Repairing helicopters, fighting over them, hiding them.. then maybe flying them but not a lot, because everyone else wanted to destroy them, or track them down and steal or destroy them on the ground 3 ) Same for vehicles (but vehicles have less class than helis) .. players who wanted vehicles could get them, collect them, and maintain them and hide them.. it's a way of life (and like helicopters, there's not a lot you can do with them except joyride) 4 ) Looking for other player's tents or helicopters or vehicles and destroying them and stealing stuff ...... AND - if you were often on a server you came to know most of the other local players, so you did not shoot them on sight because that was impolite.. you know each other. So there was a general feeling against strangers who showed up, because they were fair game.. and they were hunted. This is the case on all servers I played, not just one or two. AND - when you knew more or less everyone, you could have gentlemanly agreed wars and shootouts, between clans or groups, as a kind of sport. Some servers did that exclusively, much more than others, so some well-known servers were 40/40 pvp, everyone in the same town, just .. fighting .. that pvp continued from the start of the Mod right up to the start of SA.. so no endgame there, just a style of play. SO - what fits with "endgame" in all this ? = Collecting loot and fighting over loot collections, or just stealing loot collections from other players. (and some players got really pissed if they lost their tents - I know one admin who had his helicopter stolen and crashed - he ranted all day and then closed down the server for ever . So posessions was a key thing. And you can steal other player's stuff without them knowing who you are. Or you can call them out over it. so together with the day to day excitement stuff, the endgame was LOOT, I guess .. what else could it be ? You already know how to survive.

v0.47 shaking scope is back and now even worse?
pilgrim* replied to anteridy's topic in General Discussion
Using LRS the right mouse key zooms in.. but right mouse key also does "hold breath".. and the hold breath currently only slightly holds and centers the crosshair just for a moment, so by the time you have zoomed in all the way, the "hold breath" effect has already finished... ok ? Easiest way to deal with this is to use '+ ' and ' - ' on the numeric pad to zoom in and out. So you zoom in with numeric + and then when you're zoomed in, the right mouse button will give you hold breath any time you want it, so you can actually see it work. It's no big deal - but it may help aiming. But for instance foxdie_01 who is a sniper, doesn't care to use it. So you have to try it yourself, see if it's useful. Best Thing is to read my explanation of a better mathematical formula for the sway, to make the sway effect more realistic, without reducing it.. just make it more like what happens when you aim a real gun. No one likes maths, I guess (??) but if you work out what I'm saying in that thread it is VERY SIMPLE and could be a GREAT IMPROVEMENT for sway in DayZ and in the whole ArmA series. I'm a genius, is why. -
Is anyone in DayZ Standalone friendly?
pilgrim* replied to BoBoSlap's topic in New Player Discussion
nice guy thread http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/206801-im-a-nice-guy/#entry2073575 "nice" is not in it. You can risk your life to help people same as you can risk your life to kill people. Your choice. From time to time toss a coin. -
Well exactly. Also if shards are rented for "money" (heh) I think many admins will choose the piratical/bandit attitude.. kick people of "your own" public hive server to loot farm, and then go to all the other public servers to fight, loot, play. This gives you greater scope than paying to have an honest private server which will be the only place you can play the same character and keep gear. I don't think the servers are policed much at the moment. Maybe a bit, because more often than before, admins just restart the server to kick everyone, instead of kicking individuals.. but just since the patch (last few days) ive been fast kicked only seconds after logging in maybe 5 times. So fast it looks like an auto kick to me - which is easy to implement and undetectable, because it rides on your html server interface and not on the game software. So given the level of policing, a smart admin can get away with what he likes (by 'smart' I only mean 'not dumb'). Notice how many of the kick servers write the word kick as "ki-ck" so you can't serch for it so easily.. that's about as cautious as you have to be at present, so the policing is not tight .. Anyway - the private shards are supposed to solve this problem and give everyone what they want, and I'm sure responsible admins, and real clans, will take advantage of it, create and share shards and do good stuff.. I just wonder how many bad-admins will want to stay on the public hive and keep the selfish advantages of "piss off this is my server, I do what I like here". (an attitude all players know and love, and a wonderful help and service to the game.. hmmm..) Let's see how it goes. Better policing (and fair policing) would be great but who has the will to do it, and how to do it ? No one is offering. And policing is not the same as having rules.

Two new villages N and NW of NWAF ... but this whole area was already deforested from the start of SA, so no great loss there. Big new town in the middle of the map ... with so much choice, pvp players will have problems finding each other, maybe a good thing. In the Mod the empty wilderness was a point of interest and was played extensively. That gameplay possibility has more or less gone already. It will be interesting to see if tents and agriculture survive on the new map.

With the global loot management system, Dean mentioned changing servers to search for rare loot heard of in 'rumors' among players. Hive shards as discussed do not provide a practical advantage for admins, unless you really want a totally private, whitelist clan-only game. Honest clans, who want to play only on one server and never move across servers, are quite rare. Your player character will only be saved on that private shard, not on the public hive, so you will not be able to cross servers with that character. Many, many admins will see this as a disadvantage. But note, you will be able to have one character on that private shard, and one character on the public shard. As servers are used at the moment, I think many admins will stay with the advantages of the public hive. They wll go on kicking players who log on their "join=kick" "clan only" server. They will use their server for loot and then go play on the public hive as usual. They have been doing this up to now, so why change, specially if you must pay to rent a private shard ?

Is anyone else finding current stable build.. well, unplayable?
pilgrim* replied to Forrelist's topic in General Discussion
This is your problem, you are playing Stable using build 0.48 instead of 0.47. In Steam Library, right click DayZ, choose Properties, choose Beta - opt out of Beta and Steam will reload 0.47 for you, then Stable will run ok. All your problems come from this. Then if you want to play on Experimental, opt back in and reload the experimental build. -
The center is the point you intend to aim at, the thing you want to hit - it's the center of the target. The sway pattern uses this as the point of origin for plotting the crosshair path, so your crosshair is moving in loops around that point. The problem is the crosshair spends a lot more time on the outside of the pattern where it slows down, than it spends moving inwards, and when it is closer to the center it accelerates. It's just an obvious way of doing the movement by using a standard mathematical formula .. the result isn't what it should be given some thought. I'm sure if BI gave my idea some consideration, they'd either bin it (cool) or see that it could provide something interesting and useful, and not difficult to test. Worth playing around with, see what it looks like.

So in this long and dramatic presentation, you say eventually ... that all online games ever made are based on competition between human players and that single-player stuff gets boring ok

the only problem about having player activated sounds in your vicinity is that the server has to inform your PC that another player is close this is a giveaway for hackers/cheaters- instead of possiby hearing player activated sounds they can monitor this function with a proximity detector. This is why I suggested using the player bubble for deciding proximity the bubble is perhaps too large to be used for this however, sound triggers can maybe be sent on a one-off immediate basis from the server, so a cheat automatic detection would not give warning before the sound event. The breaking stick sound, for instance SHOULD ONLY be a sign of another player - it is a very distinct sound you can hear in real life forests or woods and it MEANS one thing only. I have a heart attack every time I hear this damned sound.. every time. And no change after a year of hearing it.

when you hold breath the crosshair freezes a very short time but does not return to center This corresponds to the path traced by the crosshair in 'sway', as the crosshair never returns to center either. That is.. there is a 'random' chance that it may, but sway is not programmed to return to center Using 'hold breath' freezes the crosshair close to it's actual location (and towards center), so using this must definitely give you a momentary advantage in mouse manipulation, because for that moment the crosshair is stationary and it is 'momentarily' easier to center it. Repeated right clicks repeat the same effect, so there is a net gain, however dextrous you are. But sure - if you're cool with your current technique, then why change a good thing ? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/206630-sway-function-math-suggestion/#entry2072241

If you use number pad ' + ' and ' - ' to zoom in and out, you can zoom in and then get "hold breath" with the right mouse key, when you are already zoomed in. Yep, this helps a lot. I'm left handed, so my mouse is on the left side of the keyboard, and the number pad on the right is well placed for me, so the " + and - " zoom action works well in my case. Might not be so cool for right-handed players ?

I been thinking about this - looking at sway, how it is calculated and what it looks like http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/206630-sway-function-math-suggestion/#entry2072241 I think the mathematics can be revised, without altering the dimensions of sway as they are, to make it more realistic. xx

So I went to Green Mountain again ( this is a bad, horrible tale, so if you are a young person I advise you to turn off your PC right now !, don't read this ) OK last time I went to Green Mountain I climed up the ladder in the mast - and this is a LONG ladder so you can't hesitate otherwise you are DOOMED and you fall, ya know ? AND at the top there was a guy with an AXE I didn't see him at all and he hit me one time as I got to the top, and I fell, and it's a really LONG way to fall. So this time I was afraid to go up there again due to the bad experience last time. So I thought I'd get over it, and I went up again, and I made sure to look carefully near the top and not to fall while I was doing that and I got up ok. THEN I was at the top of the tower, there was nothing there. BUT the admin (I know his name and he is a cursed admin, and bad carma will follow him forever, and his graphics cards will melt) He restarted the server without warning while I was up there AND when I logged back in I was in a REALLY BAD PLACE you don't want to know about it it was a NO WAY OUT place, and you could TELL many players had DIED in it, swearing and shouting and starving, you could TELL So I ran around and I shouted (I said bad stuff) and I threw myself against the walls and I tried to LEAN out, and I logged in and out about FIVE times and I started to STARVE and DEHYDRATE, but the worst was I had a lot of food and drink so I knew it would be long and atrocious before I DIED And I jumped and rolled and crawled and rolled and threw myself against the walls round and round without stopping and dropped my gun and stuff and mashed the keyboard and rolled and rolled and crawled and jumped at all the corners and sideways and face on and at angles and backwards, and banged my head on the walls and I could SEE out but I couldn't ESCAPE AND I understood how BAD EVIL ADMINS could trap players in the horrible place at the Green Mountain Tower, and those players would never return And while I was rolling and crawling at random down to my last canteen of water and no food left, suddenly I was outside in the middle of the compound and I stood up and RAN, I swear, I ran away from there

Bad Translation or bad text: The water bottle gives contents in mL (mili-litres) - when full it reads 100mL. This is wrong as 1000mL = 1 Litre. 100mL is only about one tenth of a normal canteen NOT a canteen full, and 10mL is about half a teaspoon (NOT one swig) . Try giving contents as 1L ; 0.7L ; 0.1L instead, to be accurate.
-
action message: I have drank / all canteen should be I have drunk / all the canteen or (better) I have drunk / the whole canteen
-
Normal sequence is : action ) raise rifle actions ) - zoom in, - zoom out, - fire, ... etc action ) lower rifle if rifle is carried lowered or ready: use 'right mouse button' to raise it and sight (whatever sights are on the rifle) in one action and same right mouse button to lower it again to the original position (ready or lowered)

I discovered 'double click'. Double click can be boocoo help for mapping. It's very useful in fact, and double functions on keys can be good technique (long as you dont crosswire them) for instance I put stand and walk on the 'forward' key, so if I'm crouched, just this one 'move forward' key will get me standing and advancing - I also put a double klick for run, and double click for stand on that same key, so from crouched, one double click and I'm running forward. And if you're standing already, the 'stand' command has no effect. Also the "move back" key, I put a double click 'crouch' on the same key, so I can move back or crouch as I like. Feels right. So I have stand, run, crouch, and walk and the 4 directions on just 4 movement keys, easy to find easy to use There are other very helpful combinations - if you think about what you do, and what you need 'up front' in the game.

hi - you still here ?

My problem was I was playing 0.47 stable but I had downloaded 0.48. So my DayZ version number was 0.48. I opted out of "Beta" in Steam and it reloaded the 0.47 version. Now in stable, everything OK.

Walkie-talkie doesn't work yet in 0.47 stable, there is no "radio" channel only "direct" at the moment.
