    Rain is back

PC - If you and your clothes are soaked - make a classic fire and drop all your clothes & backpack on the ground, crouch by the fire naked until you are DRY .. as soon as you are dry all your clothes are dry too. OK? Same for desperate emergency (no time to make fire) - find first floor room of house out of the way of zombies & wanderers, drop all your clothes, face into a corner angle of the room and run full speed non-stop against the corner until you are dry - then put all your clothes & gear back on with one click on each, as soon as you are dry they are all dry too. - don't let any strangers catch you in your underwear

Getting annoyed by ADA Wheel Spawn Rate

Try playing higher ping (further away) - a ping of 170 is only 170 milliseconds.. that's less than 0.2 of a second - it's totally doable.. If you have a ping of 0.3 of a second (ping 300) and the other guy has a ping of 0.03 (ping 30) - then he might get the drop on you if you both react at exactly the same time, his shot will be about a quarter of a second before yours. You have no problems with infected at a ping of 170-200, no extra glitching or rubberbanding or anything different from low ping events. Unless you want to play at Fastest Draw Showdowns.. there is really not very MUCH difference between "low" ping or "high" ping, UNTIL your ping gets so high the server throws you off. At quiet times, depending on timezone here and in other parts of the world, and international banking/business hours (all these affect your end-to-end connection speed) I play more or less anywhere in the world, as I feel. - Is interesting visiting different cultures, including dealing with different languages, or just looking for the closest high-pop server and seeing what the ping is to get there, and see if I can log in and say .. "hello I'm from far away I eat people" or whatever

    Retexture/Add New Food Cans Problem

you have a <material> and then a <class> with the same name as the material - and then you list the material "canned_catfood_co" as in the class "canned_catfood_co" so instead of : material[] = {"canned_catfood_co"}; try : material[] = {"Food_CanCatfood"}; - and go on and sort it out from there (Yoda says)

    The Balota Incident

Nice! - is this the Dead by Dawn server? I've found it stressful reaching any water pump, on that server. One night coming back East from Novo, went up for water in Turovo (nice quiet little town with a well). Pitch dark, with a hand torch, by stealth, and I fought with a hand axe only - Before I reached the water I got ripped to shreds, clothes damaged, pants ruined, killed attackers, ran through houses, more one to ones, fought in the woods, stumbled & slid down the cliff rocks to the railway - got jumped by another zomb waiting ON the rail track - got him in time to bandage with blood at zero. Water, food, all yellow. Walked out of there groaning aloud. (and no pants) I wouldn't try a gunshot in that 'sleepy old village'. 174.0.199.16:2302 = Dead by Dawn (Dedicated) Hardcore 1p

    ETA for private Servers?

... //... IMO - ( and my opinion still stands ) - IMO there is strikingly no detail, no explanation, no "word" from BI except ImpulZ's comment above. BI are keen on Xbox private shards, but : - because (whatever they propose) the implementation is not a decision BI can make unilaterally. They can LOBBY for it. As you are doing. Of course a hardware server [the box] running an Xbox game instance is in NO way different from any other hardware server running any other game instance, so this is NOT a BI technical server-side software problem. It is an Xbox network problem, and totally subject to Microsoft approval. ANY decision on how THAT network operates, access to it, how it can be modified, and permission to make use it for any purpose - are 100% under Microsoft's control. =IMO=

    ETA for private Servers?

this = [visible space with no comment in it] = is probably the exact reply you are looking for - It means very clearly = IMO = ( & I have studied Klingon ) - that this silence states, expressed in corporatebusinesleagalcontractboadroombindingspeak that it's actually totally down to Microsoft (who as you know will NOT SAY upfront) to decide if/when/& under-what-conditions. Not-So-SmallSoft ..er.. MiniSoft, MegaSoft ?? do UTTERLY keep 100% rights to access & overwatch on games & servers and users and the HOLY MS Network .. sorry, I meant "wholly MS network".. the real hardcore survival server

Right - would make good sense if mil infected carried mil loot - Also, IRL if a military base is being evacuated in chaos & the collapse of society the LAST thing any military personnel would leave behind would be their WEAPON and their ammo. Maybe in panic leave clothing, food, petrol, whatever.. but your WEAPON ?.. NO chance. So maybe an infected military wandering around there would be a more realistic place to search, see what he had in his pockets.. boot knife, clips, grenades, spares, magazines, loose ammo? (and maybe some fresh meat chunks?) [and even a few of somebody's fingers?]. = Stands to reason. * p.s. - DOG TAGS while I'm here (what the hell) - How about using DOG TAGS .. for mil infected or perhaps even for players... this would be an in-game way of keeping count (for the folk who want to keep count).. dog tags would stack and you could loot them off other players corpses. I had the thought that, for cannibals or killers, you could cut off a finger or an ear from your dead victim and keep those - but I have an impression the Devs who took FLIES away from corpses wouldn't let you take a FINGER as a keepsake (even if the Devs do let you eat human bodies, you have to do it nicely). So I thought dog tags instead. Just an idea for the folk who really WANT to keep some kind of score - because there seem to be a lot of them. I'm not one (but I'm being nice for your sake).

And <how many times> would <how many players> find the same note before word got around and players started looking for it, or knew where the stuff was without bothering to look for a trail of notes. and how many DIFFERENT quests would there have to be - 100? 10,000? - until everyone KNEW them INSIDE OUT - with everyone telling everyone else where that Quest is and how to do it - and players doing the same quest 15 times just to get the stuff - and the fan Website with the List Of DayZ Quests Say - How come you didn't like the Quest I suggested earlier ? - it seems to me a MORE exciting proposal than your quest .. and exactly as TOTALLY non-DayZ And exactly as inoperable. And for exactly the same reasons. If you want linear gameplay - there are PLENTY of games, online, offline... A TRUE sandbox is a very recent invention in the history of games development .. name me a few games that honestly carry this disclaimer : [warning = contains zero quests]

remember the notebook/diary ?? - that was in the Mod for a while (I think it was that far back) - way back.. You could call it up and it gave some of those stats just for YOUR benefit.. the only way to save it was a screenshot (if you felt like you needed to save it).. For me the real "diary" is the one in your head as you learn, death by death and spawn by spawn - not just the land and the places and loot, but what players do, how they think, the whole OPERATION of the game . These days, if I am looking for a place to put a tent or a stash I can TELL what percentage of players would look in those same spots.. and I know a couple of places that players never think of going ( really, I SWEAR ) not even by mistake .. That long-term gain of experience is "the notebook" .. But we HAVE HAD a diary of "events" in the game in the past. = As long as there are NEVER Steam Achievements in DayZ, I'm cool. Your tally-book dies when you die.
  11. Right ! - Duct Tape is TOTALLY BOSS.. it is MEAN what you can do with it these days - (say, can you also bandage with it? .. will it repair spark plugs & batteries? ) You know the Duct Tape Joke = Why is Duct Tape like the Force ? <because it has a light side and a dark side and it holds the universe together>
  12. Repairing backpacks OK - and even knives I can almost accept - but repairing guns (not even "gun accessories" - just the firearm ) with Duct Tape is just tooooooo strange and weird - specially as there are gun cleaning kits that SHOULD be around that were designed to do this in the full game there is also a leatherworking kit and a sewing kit - to repair different items. ( anyone tried Duct Tape on burnt out pans or damaged car wheels ? )

    Two dedicated servers

If you have two boxes going through the same IP : then life is much simpler - each server [machine] has it's own serverDZ.cfg You set up each server exactly as a standard server running one DayZ game. ( = no need to change any directory or file names etc ) then, following @philippj above First server port settings: - Gameport 2302 [UDP] - SteamQueryPort 27016 [UDP] - DZSALModServer 2312 [TCP] Second server port settings: - Gameport 2402 [UDP] - SteamQueryPort 27017 [UDP] - DZSALModServer 2412 [TCP] also make sure all these ports are open in your local router OK.. sounds reasonable - is anything else missing ? - any other port alterations needed @philippj ? (& thanx & beanZ) - anyone else notice if something else needs doing? ( @ImpulZ ) ?? * p.s - FOLKS : Try out the 174.0.199.16:2302 = Dead by Dawn (Dedicated) Hardcore 1p server on PC Community . Don't miss it. Worth a look just for what @Guy Smiley has done so far to the zombs. Makes life MUCH more interesting .. brings back some of the old-time STRESS that had begun to fade from the game a little . - I'd love to see someone try to build a Base in front of or around a Police Station in THIS mod (heh) .. Might be a challenge !

    Two dedicated servers

Other ports are allowed : for example you can use port 2402 definitely - other servers are using this eg - here are 3 instances with the same IP = 185.16.86.48, but different ports for each instance (three different games, each with it"'s own persistence, etc). check the PC Community list: names : "Standalone Server" = 185.16.86.48 : 2302 "'The Village - Barely Infected" = 185.16.86.48 : 2402 "'Hangedmen rp"= 185.16.86.48 : 2502 Question is : How to have two or more self-contained DayZ games running on one box? (not just the player port address) Each one needs it's own parameters, maybe it's own different mods, connection to battleye & steam, events, persistence, hive & backup, and the correct ports open to put each instance on the server list. Different instance number for each (see ImpulZ startup parameters) and ALL the full set of files needed for each instance in separate folders on the server? & different local PC files & batch file for each one? <I messaged you around 3am - your time - you with "half" an idea about this and some links .. not a solution, just a starting place>

    <territory color="##########">

I =think= this is so BI devs can keep track of where the different kinds of zombies are. I assume they have a development map that can show zombie areas in color - and shows a different color for each zomb type: so they can oversee easily which type of zomb us in each particular area. If you look at the zombie-territories, you see that one type of zomb will appear under one <territory color> in the defined different areas (with spawn parameters & location coordinates etc). The same zomb type are all listed grouped under one territory color heading. The next zomb type are listed under a different territory color heading I guess this is so the BI devs can call up the the map of different color areas and see at glance what kind of zombs they have in what location. And probably manipulate types and resize/add areas directly on that map? Good way of keeping a visual on what zomb-types you have in locations across the whole map. [ Someone tell me if I'm wrong, please - thanx. ] So the colors are used by the BI development tool. But IMO you can define any zomb zone you like using the zomb-type and spawn and location parameters, without giving that area a <territory-color> header, or without adding it to the list under an existing territory color (?) . That should not give an error because the territory-color code has no effect inside the gameplay; it's for the BI dev software. * for yourself (modding), it would be useful to work out a way of keeping track of the kinds of zombs you were putting in different places, and the parameters you were giving each bunch of zombs in any of those areas - you can mess with the rules and definitions as long as you remember which rules you messed with (me, I have no memory) . e.g. in 0.6xx after the NWAF fire station was taken away, I heard there were still firefighter zombies spawning around there even though there was no firestation. I guess that is fixed now? It's not a thing you'd notice a lot, and I haven't been back there for a long while. this-all sound right? .. er .. right?

Server reboot? Server restart.. Am i missing something?

yes - ATM completely EVERYTHING is saved in the state it is in - ALL loot, even stuff you dropped - then replaced at restart. Then the normal loot cycle goes on from where it left off.

    Two dedicated servers

I think he can use any port (all other Bi games permit this) - eg port 2303 for the second instance. then: https://community.bistudio.com/wiki/DayZ:Server_Configuration - and Impulz gives the same instructions here So see the line : instanceId = 1; // DayZ server instance id, to identify the number of instances per box and their storage folders with persistence files Then the question is how to start up two different instances to run at once on the server, and each keep their own records - persistence records & backup & battleye connection (& whatever) - because you can't launch TWO examples of DayZServer_x64.exe in the same folder on the server (obviously) - and cant run it twice with the same launch batch file. If you rename to DayZServer_x64_1.exe & DayZServer_x64_2.exe what happens to your links (eg to battleye and backup/restore). Or is this there a standard way of doing this that I haven't seen ?? The owner will need 2 sets of local files if he wants to change & experiment with mods on one of the instances, but keep the other instance running without change. And a batch file to launch each, I guess. So one game can run on while he restarts the other with experimental mods. @ImpulZ - (or anyone else) - am I looking in the wrong direction here?.. Don't want to take up your time, a "Yes Totally" plus a clue - will do fine. thanx ???

To put it rightly; you are a late-come false-claimant usurping a common idea and claiming it your own.. By gum! - I wrote it myself for the tenth time in this forum not a fortnight ago. You read it but being of short wit forgot the author and imagine only in your dreams it was yourself. Link us to the post where you "expressed" the idea "many years ago".. You show me yours - I'll show you mine.

    Central Economy Issues/types.xml modified

Thanx @paunae. There is a bit more on the same lines here = my attitude is "go easy"= simplist= not complicated, you can try out and see what happens without making a disaster you can't put straight in one easy upload : this is still on loot categories, (and with an interesting github link) and on zombie categories & "cargo" that zombies (and maybe backpack loot & clothes loot?) carry. This should be in the modding/servers section anyway, but it was a suggestion in the Dead by Dawn server thread. The zombs were carrying too many cans of food to make survival edgy enough. But DbyD has a lot of zombies, overall this makes the daily DayZ loot search suddenly much more interesting. Worth a look. Dead by Dawn(Dedicated) | Hardcore 1pp - 174.0.199.16:2302 xxp

    the real hardcore survival server

Two players in dayz, they walk together in a thunderstorm and cold weather. One say: "It's raining...", the other "Mhm." And a bullet goes through his head from a sniper 400 meters away. He's dead before he knows why and the first is running full out for cover in the rain trying to work out which direction the bloody shot came from ... Examples are more...
