Mookie: "Crouched running seems bugged for me." yep, crouch-run you sound like a centipede is a funny cartoon noise, you'll all want to run around squatting when you hear it but it's not what was intended -
I don't have any anger I suggested you closed the thread back at the start If you can't see why it's a bad idea, I guess you're not particularly quick on making connections and predicting the results of your actions I assume you have read threads on this topic on this forum in the past. They are not constructive, check them out. Thanks for reporting me, my opinion and position is coherent I remain certain you are a troll because I cannot see how else an intelligent person would want to reopen this subject The mods have not understood that you are trolling I will leave your thread - I hope the outcome is to your liking xx pilgrim [edit : sorry I called you a console player, that was a joke]

Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
pilgrim* replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Particularly for Gews = also anyone else who wants to research = there is an archive of all kinds of ballistics and other firearm/projectile/trajectory information at the Norman Yarvin Usenet Archives (but this is raw collected information and is a basis for research, if anyone is really interested in putting in the time, the info is there and the leads from there) http://yarchive.net/gun/ammo/ I came across a suggestion: << F W Mann’s “The bullet’s flight…” gives a good explanation of why accuracy can be so poor with some very short barrelled guns. Even assuming that the barel is cut off square to the bore axis, and the crown is perfect (the higher gas pressure with decreasing barrel length make this increasingly critical) From page 167 in Mann, he shows bullets fired from very short barrelled rifles, due to the gas pressure behind the bullet and the inertia forces due to its very rapid acceleration, the bullet mushrooms as it emerges from the muzzle. >> I don't have the weight to follow that up (ok, I back off and leave it to the phsyicians) Found this and some interesting general things about 'obrez', and some images, here: http://www.forgottenweapons.com/the-obrez-and-its-cousins/ I see there : << These are brutal weapons, with a powerful connotations in Russian culture. Romantic represenation of Civil War period banditry and local resistance always includes these as the weapon of choice: “the black horse and steel obrez” even figures in one of the widely known and loved Cossack songs. >> also a note that "obrez" can mean any weapon "sawn-off" and << The abundance of army-issued rifles in revolutionary Russia is the reason behind the ovewhelming prevalence of sawn-off rifles over sawn-off shotguns. >> but anyone can find this stuff just by looking around the web, instead of spouting off yards of .. "I imagine, so it must be true" (hey, I dont object to people fantasizing at all, as long as they don't pretend it's something else, I keep seeing really silly claims about history.. yza know ?) There are obrez (Mozin) in "The Military-Historical Museum of Artillery, Engineer and Signal Corps" of Saint-Petersburg, and the usual pic of a cut down Mosin (wikipedia) comes from there. Also the Belgian War Museum has different types of cut down rifles.. Belgium has a long and odd relationship with various forms of warfare, it seems to me (I lived in Brussels for a time, the museum is interesting, and at Saint-Petersburg [Russians call the town just 'Petersburg' now] the museum is a kind of specialised offshoot of the Hermitage.. an immense huge gigantic repository). Always a pleasure to hear Gews, because he talks sense and has an opinion worth listening to. = more so than me in any case. xx -

as long as you're guessing .. that's fine with me Obrez were cut down for ease of concealment, used by criminals and by resistance fighters in the soviet union countries The reason rifles were cut down instead of shotguns, is that rifles were extremely common in those countries -

Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
pilgrim* replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
Obrez were cut down for ease of concealment, used by criminals and by resistance fighters in the soviet union countries The reason rifles were cut down instead of shotguns, is that rifles were extremely common in those countries and a common crap old rifle is a hell of a lot cheaper than a decent shotgun if you know different, please quote your statistics, court statistics, crime rates, regional and government studies for the "some areas" where sawnoffs are common but "not as common as the Mosin" and point out the other areas where the sawn off IZH-43 is "incredibly" common. And as well as regions, please quote dates and the police summaries etc, to back your detailed information on criminal activities with clandestine modified weapons, from year to year in different ex-soviet union countries. Lets have statistics, numbers. Do more criminals use obrez than revolvers or automatics, etc ? has this always been the case, is it a regional, or national trend ? .. you obviously know these things: you either have a grip on the subject or you're just making it up as you type, for the sake of talk I am not an expert, I asked a friend about "obrezani" and simply checked a number of sources, I had some fun.. I'm not trying to prove how cool I am at all.. if anyone can talk historical sense without launching into undefended unsupported fantasies, I'll be interested to listen whenever I pass by that thread now we hear that "the obrez wasn't really common at all" .. ok so we live and learn.. what is the percentage of sawnoff shotguns to obrez detected in criminal activites in just one Soviet State since 1945 .. do tell, or let's go back to obrez during the Civil War ? Do the research and give us the figures. You often talk as if you have knowledge, but it sounds hollow. -

The IZH-43 is already in the game. You can saw it short with a hacksaw. -
Mosin-Nagant "Obrez" Modification? [Torchia Tweet]
pilgrim* replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
"building from scratch" you mean the games designers, I guess Obrez is only designed to be hidden, is my point.. its a crap modification, in real life it's made by people who need it short Yes, obrez would have the same use as sawnoff shotgun, for short distances, except that the shotgun has scatter. So with obrez, you know everyone would be mad as shit not being able to hit anything over 20m away ? Or completely missing at close range ? And it makes a lot of noise. But if you want to saw down a Mosin, I think perhaps you should be allowed to ruin a good gun if you want to. -
Yes cool, but there is also the time factor. The blades detriorate too rapidly So - not realistic at all, AND no possibility of finding a replacement edged weapon, you would spend all your time looking for a blade if you tried, and would not be able to hunt (hunting is already time consuming, you just wouldnt have time to do it, and if normal spawn was reduced so hunting was more important, number of blade spawns would be reduced too, and it is already small) Also - for myself, I'm offended that I carry an old RUSTY blade around (the Damaged blade pic). In fact if I sharpened a blade IRL it would be Worn, but it would be sharp and NOT rusty, for sure. So I thought a better image of a sharpened blade would be good A suggestion: As your blade decays, it goes down to Damaged, which can be the same rusty picture, but if you sharpen it , it should move up to "Worn (sharpened)" with a picture of a used sharpened blade. This is the blade as it goes UP from Damaged. As it goes DOWN from Pristine to Worn, the Worn pic should remain the same, so you only get "sharpened" as you move back up .. hmm ? Would be nice for hunters. But mainly, I don't want to carry a rusty old blade that needs attention every time I use it, and also looses 75-80% of the meat I cut (worse than opening a can with a screwdriver) - and LOOKS still rusted and crap even after I sharpen it with hunter's care and attention. IRL I can sharpen a blade up to Worn, and it will be worn but shiny and SHARP, and (as you say) I should not loose more than 40_50% of the meat.. and IRL much less than that. But yes, the effort and time and equipment required for hunting should be better balanced against collecting cans.. and not just by reducing the number of cans..
-
(I guess this should be a suggestion) The big problem with hunting at the moment is as follows : - same whatever blade you use, machete or kitchen knife.. 1 ) After skinning only 3 or 4 times, your blade will decay down to Badly Damaged (even if it was Pristine when you found it) At Badly Damaged you have to sharpen it with a stone, but it only sharpens up to Damaged. And then you must resharpen every time you use it. If you use Badly Damaged 1 or 2 more times, it falls to Ruined and you can't sharpen it any more, it's useless. So until you find another edged weapon you will always have a Damaged blade for hunting, at best. 2 ) A Damaged blade will give you only 21-25% meat on each steak. This means you need 4 or 5 steaks cut with your Damaged blade to equal 1 full 100% steak This is too low food value to make steaks worth eating, always, considering you also have to build fire and cook.. You need five steaks (5 storage spaces) for 1 'meal'. The nourishment of 2 cans is always better than this. To make hunting worthwhile Blades must sharpen back up to WORN condition

Obrez were cut down for ease of concealment, used by criminals and by resistance fighters in the soviet union countries The reason rifles were cut down instead of shotguns, is that rifles were extremely common in those countries In DayZ, the longhorn closely fills the role of an obrez and is much more accurate, of course
