    How to stop server hopping.

OK - understand that I proposed' no-login zones' ONLY as an alternative to the silly proposals in this thread. For myself I have no problem with server hoppers, and they are slated to become an official game element with the central loot control system. This is what we hear, right ? But to answer your points: 1 ) "people would just need to add "move in" and "move out" to their server hopping routine" So they would not be "HOPPING" any more! This is clear. People move in and out of all kinds of areas to loot, of course they move ON the server where they are looting. That is not "hopping". 2) "being spawned outside is probably a better way how to deal with it" Won't work. Did you not read my explanation of why this is a non starter ? Once it is understood that players who change servers are not evil, then the only question is how to balance the game to take them into account, fairly for all players. Making it longer and more difficult to log in to DayZ, introducing log-in penalties, is by far the worst proposal I doubt any of these ideas will be implemented, once the 'server-hopper-haters' and xenophobe players have shut themselves away into their private games, and left us 2.5 million normal players out here in the real DayZ But surely there are better schemes than log-in-time-penalties ?? Of course there are !

DayZ is a game about theft.

Well this is the old saying about gunslingers again, same as it always was, always will be : " Why are there no old gunslingers ? "

    How to stop server hopping.

Well, I thought about this before posting. If the server restarts or if you are kicked (for any reason) you log in at the same place you were logged out. But - problem - if you disconnect with Alt-F1 kind of thing, I thought you must be respawned because : In the no-logout zone disconnecting and being respawned outside the zone would give you a safe passage out of any trouble. If you're trapped in a house, you disconnect and respawn outside the perimeter, you''re safe. And worse, if you are in a firefight anywhere in the zone, you can disconnect and be logged back in at a random location outside the firefight area, big ghosting advantage to you. So I figured, if you go into this 'no-logout' zone, you know the risks.. you have to run for maybe 1 minute to get outside the zone to log out - and sure in that 1 min all kinds of bad things can happen, zombies, ladders, players - but that's true anywhere.. the only difference here is you can't hide and logout right where you are.. and if you disconnect you are respawned. You know the risk when you enter the area. So maybe there's a power cut or your mum switches off the pc or the internet provider shuts down suddenly.. It's bad anywhere in DayZ to be suddenly cut off from the game, probably zombies will eat you,or a player will shoot you, or when you log back in you'll fall off the roof, whatever.. So in this zone do your best to not leave the game, because it's a No Excuses zone, and you know the cost before you go in. Anyway, I don't see any other way to work it. I liked the idea of no-logout zones because it's an in-game solution that becomes part of the gameplay, and can make the game more interesting. And this is my best estimate of how it could work. Yes, if you are disconnect from your end - for any reason - when you're in the zone you're dead.. but .. it's a serious place to be, you take the risk. If you can't log out at all in that zone it's going to be an intense place anyway.

Will Private Shards use the Central Loot system?

This can be solved easily. OK - so suppose you have central loot control in the hive: We say (for instance) there are 10 public servers, and there is 1 private shard server. A controlled loot is going to spawn.. on the 10 public servers it will spawn ONCE .. that means there is a 10% chance it will spawn on any 1 given server. No one knows which one. So on the 1 private server we set the same 10% chance that the loot will spawn there too. This means that on ALL the 11 servers, public or private, there is a 10% chance on every server that the loot will spawn. OK - you follow that ? No problem. Same chance on every server. That's what you want. And because the loot cannot be moved between the private shard and the public, it does not matter how many spawn on private or public they do not interfere with each other. That's all.
  5. Hey there, you see .. is that real Italian leather ? .. Mr Corleone and the Boys would sure like to take a look at those shoes .. where you hangin' out ?
  6. why ? you don't like the idea of fighting strangers for parts ? or are you afraid the bad admins will illegally kick other players off their public hive servers ? what is this conservative parochialism and xenophobia in DayZ ? for a long time we heard "private hives will solve all this, give us private shards " then we were promised PRIVATE SHARDS for those who wanted them and now it's " we don't want strangers on our server anyway, we want to stay in the public hive but with NO STRANGERS "

    How to stop server hopping.

Here is a different idea that is simpler, also more interesting in gameplay. Suppose there were areas of the map where you COULD NOT log out When you are in one of those you have a red dot in the top corner of your screen Around the 2 airports.. maybe other key locations too, would be no logout zones If the server restarts, your position is saved and you log back in where you were, as normal (no advantage/disadvantage to anyone) If you disconnect yourself inside the zone you respawn (suicide) But if you want to log out normally you have to move OUT of the no-logout zone first. I think this could deal with hoppers AND make the NWAF and the other hot combat zones more exciting.. for instance if you have someone pinned down in a building, you KNOW they will still be in there, however long it takes.. to the end Just like real life. I like the idea of solutions that are "inside" the game, so that they are part of the gameplay and everyone has to take them into account while they play.. instead of solutions that stop them from playing and keep them outside the game longer. ??

    How to stop server hopping.

If impatient players leave, you don't have a game to play any more dude. Do you know anything about video gameplayers ? Are you a player yourself ? What percentage of players of any video game are ready to wait TEN minutes to log in to a game ? Ask around in the industry. You are ready to wait I guess ? Please tell us what is a reasonable time that you would wait to log in to a game. Really ? ;)

Gamma changing based on what you look at

I think this is a plus in the game .. it is maybe exaggerated compared to reality ? .. but it is a real observable effect in the field. If you are sniping, it is very good to put yourself in semi cover in front of a tree with the sun behind you shining on whatever you're observing. It will be much harder for them to see you than you to see them. This is good. And moving through forest you have light effects that can be dangerous and have to be taken into account. Shielding your eyes or looking slightly down or to the side to see better is a standard technique in reality.

    Another game breaking glitch

Yes - I'm inventing ideas as I go along. I have heard of problems with graphics softwares on multicore machines that have on the fly rendering problems with 4gb and shut down. Adobe AE does/did this. And the problem sounds like a memory leak, dont it? In game since the patch I have seen players in the player list get kicked by battleye for 'loss of connection' (quite often) although they had pings of 30 or 60 max. So this sounds like a leak that uses up the ram quite rapidly. It looks to be 64-bit OS that are affected, not 32-bit. If there is a memory policing routine in operation, then the software would tend to drop out if there was limited ram in the first place. So ... I donno.. but I'd look for a segmentation fault, and I'd suppose it came from filling up memory (however much you got) rendering the frames.. but that's all the ideas I got.. turn down the graphics specs to very low and see if the game runs longer ? And I guess also all these people have direct x 11 on their machines not direct x 9 ? Also I can be completely wrong. I'm interested because last night I got bored with 32-bit windows7 and decided to put in a little SSD with win7 64-bit and just DayZ (triple boot in fact) to see what I could do with that. Was on my way out to buy SSD when I started reading this thread. So maybe I can experiment, heh. Of course BI will be on this now, I guess hotfix very soon. The coffee machine is running dry every 3 am ain't it ?
  11. Just to note: anti-teleport was implemented in the Mod, so it is not impossible to paste a solution from inside .. at least for that. The same solution from the Mod will work in SA. The hack packages for sale - at a number of wellknown places around the web - well, BI certainly know how those packages function Obviously BI is working to take out the standard hacks one by one, by importance and by method of entry This was a main reason to put the Alpha out to early access, it was known from the start that there would be a fight If it's going to be a fight, it will be win or loose either the game will remain playable or it shall be overwhelmed BI have a hell of a lot of goodwill in the player base .. looks like this is the hour before the storm.; or the storm is here.. In the post above, Karmaterror says "wait" hmm .. not my decision to make .. an upfront home-based proactive dedicated BI anti-hack team ? CIA, SAS, Men in Black ?? xx

    Another game breaking glitch

Well maybe it's something to do with rendering in 64-bit OS but no one will know unless the people who have the problem TELL it. I have win7 32 bit and NO problem, so I can't look for it myself. Beck is doing good. off the cuff = I have no way of knowing = If it was the DayZ software, you'd expect everyone with 64-bit to have the same prob, but if it was GPU direct x driver incompatibility then it would be limited to one make of video card? - or maybe pc is multicore with low ram as Caboose says .. poff, do people really run multi-core with 64-bit OS and only 4 gig memory ?? If it was my machine I'd try running it on low-low graphics settings see if that made a difference, but it's only something you can do to help faultfinding - not a solution.

    Another game breaking glitch

merge threads ? http://forums.dayzgame.com/index.php?/topic/208074-random-loosing-connection/#entry2085008 you ought to check the forums before posting maybe, would be more effective .. I have an idea this problem is caused by a memory leak in 64 bit systems meaning it only hurts players with 64-bit OSs Is that right ?

    Random "loosing connection"

    Are you all Windows 7 64bit ??

    How to stop server hopping.

At least 90% of the DayZ players will NOT wait 10 minutes to log in for any reason If they have to wait any real time they will just go play another game This is true.. after a couple of 10-minute waits (not even 30 mins, just 10 minutes) most players will give it up They will not care why they have to wait, they will just stop playing

Has dayZ succeeded in being a different type of game?

Most of the 100% pvp players are duping to pvp So ATM it's not "a gear hunting game with pvp" it's just - dupe and pvp If there was no duping in the game, the pvp would be very different because there would be real loss for the pvp player That would make DayZ different from any other pvp game for a start But it is not Players who want to nonstop pvp, is fine.. it would be more exciting for them if they had to find weapons first, each time But at the moment duping is just what you do when you log in before you go to pvp This makes the game pointless for everybody, in my view Especially for the hard pvp players, the whole game lasts 10 minutes from start to finish, then dupe with the other kids and do it again At present pvp players do NOT search for weapons before pvp Duping is even easier than loot farming Stop the dupe addicts

Reporting status loot on military base

If players are dropping Blaze and SKS it is because they have picked up something better, I guess ? Also, don't you think major work is happening on spawn ATM ?

    GOAT I SAW A GOAT!

Verily this is a GOAT. It exists! It is a dark goat. Perhaps it can answer my .. Questions .. OK, now I won't shave or wash until I find the G0AT It must be Goat Zero, right ? What does it eat ?

    persistent servers not being persistent

Point is, the server selection page is getting valid responses .. it's just players that can't join the server ... this is why the devs only put a subset of servers to persistence, they forsaw there could be rough edges making the transition in the real (server) world, so everyone is given the choice to play standard or play persistent and take the initial risks.

    Gorka Uniforms Thread

mauve is nice, puce is cool too ... but I have a little doubt about decayed aubergine ? I only have Autumn jacket but it looks better when it's worn on the other hand, maybe aubergine is ok if I'm not dressing for the city ?

    GOAT I SAW A GOAT!

I need a screenshot of a goat Come on people. I need this. Don't even ask why. This is a GOAT SCREENSHOT competition. If I know the GOATS are real then I will set out to find them. I shall suicide in front of the first goat I see and leave my completely genuine not-duped M4 ACOG with 3 double mags for the goat wow - what an event ! or I'll drop the gear for the GOAT and go jump in the sea, whatever..
