Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

hi hothtimeblues .. wha ? are you talking to me ? did you read the bit where I said : << where did you get the idea that rocket is doing this 'solo' stuff anyway, is this from your imagination ? >> So .. what argument ? you mean someone else's argument ? I made an obvious statement that a lot of industries can point to people who have done 'that stuff' very well and some of them have become famous for it. But you know that already. It's only a fact. So where is the argument ? .. you're free to do as you like I guess, but there arent any facts in what you're saying.. a few people on this thread seem to want to say impressive things that don't have meaning for some strange crazy reason .. pretty zany hu ?

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

Wow - we really feel like saying some BIG THINGS today, don't we in no other industry ?? ...that certainly sounds impressive .. hmm, let's see .. John D. Rockefeller Henry Ford Rupert Murdoch Cornelius Vanderbilt Andrew Carnegie Richard Branson William Randolph Hearst J. P. Morgan Warren Buffett Bill Gates How many industries is that ? Are there many "other industries" I've missed ?? and these are ONLY the ultra big, obvious, dudes (that everyone knows about except you), I could spend an afternoon researching and come up with THOUSANDS and THOUSANDS of names of people who have taken a project from conception through to marketing and done VERY well by it, and put out GREAT products.. stuff we use and like .. check your wardrobe, check your pockets, check your car, check your living room, check your TV, check your walls, check the street, check at work, check the shops, check the INTERNET .. look anywhere, look everywhere, dude ... don't live with your eyes shut. [and just to get back to reality a little.. in case you want to try to deal with it .. where did you get the idea that rocket is doing this 'solo' stuff anyway? is this from your imagination? ..from where?]

Gamma changing based on what you look at

I like it It has to be the same for everyone and can't be turned on and off as it is a game-play element, like having to run round trees because you aren't able to run through them, like rain, day and night, etc.. I think it's just fine, it adds to the game. Of course, maybe you have problems with your own screen reactivity, or with the ambient light where you play, optical fatigue etc..

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

I didn't dude, I compared 2 unknowns .. you have to pretend you don't know the names of these two guys in the story, see ? It was perhaps too complicated for you ? It seems OP was right to talk to down to you as if you were a tiny child who needs to have things explained very very simply using examples you can understand from the big world He uses a drab, standard, boring rhetorical technique and his analogy is invalid .. I'm just AMAZED to see that it works (with some people)

Should Rocket go sooner rather than later?

I love these simple moral tales for very young people well children, would you make the trainee the new head chef ? would you ? and would you give Bill Gates a contract on the basis of a chance conversation while he was still a student with no track record ? well children, would you ? I love these simple moral tales where you have to give the right answer and if you don't ... the teacher gets mad with you because you're dumb

There Are no Vegetables in DayZ.

wtf The current up-to-date term 'vegetable' as defined and used in our language is viable of course. Do people really have problems with " what is a vegetable ? " There is a perfectly good explanation of what is a "vegetable" in the sense you mean at wikipedia-vegetable In the section titled: Examples of different parts of plants used as vegetables there is a list of all the different parts of plants that can be used as vegetables. Amazing: leaves, buds, stems, whole-plant sprouts, tubers, roots, bulbs, fruits, rhizome, leaf sheaths, flower-buds ... all this stuff is classed as a vegetable if it is prepared and eaten as a vegetable I mean this "technically", and I also mean it in the completely conversational sense, and according to standard and accepted usage, and its universally agreed application in culinary vocabulary, ya know ? and it's precise dictionary definition, whatever dictionary you choose. here are some fun examples: broccoli are flower buds leeks are leaf-sheaths brussels sprouts are buds asparagus are stem shoots potatoes are tubers carrots are roots onions are bulbs tomatoes, peppers, green beans, and corn are fruits these are ALL used as vegetables Check it out. Enjoy yourselves. Now that this is cleared up, I agree with BadAsh xx

There Are no Vegetables in DayZ.

An unusually shaped vegetable ( Eggplant Mutant [aubergine] ) "these may attract attention by reason of their amusing appearance, often because they resemble a body part such as the buttocks or genitalia" I don't get this photo: can someone explain ? << Vegetable: The word vegetable was first recorded in English in the early 15th century from Old French, and was in origin applied to any plant. This is still the sense of the adjective "vegetable" in biological context. The word is taken from Medieval Latin vegetabilis "growing, flourishing" (i.e. of a plant), a semantic change from a Late Latin meaning "to be enlivening, quickening", a derivation of the verb vegetare "enliven", which is derived from vegetus "to be alive, active" (related to vigor), in reference to the process of a plant growing. In 1767, the meaning of the term "vegetable" was specified to mean "plant cultivated for food, edible herb or root." The year 1955 noted the first use of the shortened, slang term "veggie". As an adjective, the word vegetable is used in scientific and technical contexts with a different and much broader meaning, namely of "related to plants" in general, edible or not - as in vegetable matter, vegetable kingdom, vegetable origin, etc. The meaning of "vegetable" as "plant grown for food" was not established until the 18th century. >>

Wallets and Player Identification - Dog-Tags and Russian Ruble -

If when you start the game you have a fixed unchangeable nickname, that name must be tied to your account and your UID - or else you could change it, of course. Any bad-intentioned players who could fake that, would be able to stand in for - imitate - that player. Anything they did would reflect on him. That would include offensive language, hacking, glitching.. Accused of these things, how could a player whose permanent nickname been stolen be able to defend himself ?
  16. Faith in what ? Has someone promised something for this coming week ? Usually patches start on Experimental then move across, don't they ? What don't I understand ?

Wallets and Player Identification - Dog-Tags and Russian Ruble -

So on those private shards the "players" and the "KoSers" are not the same people ? Who decides to let the KoSers in ? (well, the admin obviously, but why ?) Or do the private whitelist players take turns to be KoSers ? (super boring) as for the dogtag .. I imagine (if it ever existed) it would be something you were spawned with, like your blood group, and not a permanent thing. I remember an old Anarchy Online build where you could cut a finger off your pvp victim and keep it as a memento.. and steal the finger-collections of other pvp players, etc.. That was a fun thing, I thought (they decided it was too bloodthirsty) . Works out like having "bandit" status. Putting someone's Steam account out in the game itself - or an effective equivalent, an unchangeable player ident tied to their account (how else ?) would lead to problems. That would be a major hack target, you know what fun the b**tard hackers would try to get out of that. How about (already suggested) maybe a "wallet" like the Mod diary .. but as an ingame object that other players can look at on your body, or keep as scalp-loot - or police-loot, or whatever reason they wanted.. ?

    Optimize the game

This is another of those strange 1st posts from people who join the forum to complain about something standard that has already been discussed at great length. ?? OP says: " It is not the texture settings that is a problem but when it comes to processor related options it all goes down the drain. I can't get above 40fps in a city " ?? Sounds to me like someone quickly skim-read through the forums and is trolling a meaningless topic to see who swallows it. But if Juicymushroom wants to tell me how wrong I am, I'll be pleased to admit it. So, because I can be mistaken - Hi dude, welcome to the DayZ forums xx

Wallets and Player Identification - Dog-Tags and Russian Ruble -

well.. that's a complicated idea that doesn't really make sense at all. But who cares about private shards anyway ? I thought the whole idea of private shards was so the admins could throw out anyone they didn't like, such as KoSers etc, and only play with their private white-list of nice people ? Or people who pay, etc.. ? Or people who don't pvp the way they're told to.. whatever ..

Wallets and Player Identification - Dog-Tags and Russian Ruble -

yep - vanity, vanity .. !! that money stuff is just .. vanity. Is this idea something like the diary from the Mod, in fact ? I don't like the in-game cash trading idea, it's not part of the DayZ concept at all, is it ? If players were spawned with dogtags, you could collect them .. on the other hand this would only encourage pvp, if it is possible to encourage pvp.

    How to stop server hopping.

Personally I'm not a fan of private shards. Some players want to be totally protective of "their" server, "their" loot, etc But the DayZ game has 2.5 million players .. Why give up interacting and playing with a population of millions spread over 1000 servers, and shut yourself inside one server with maybe 10 friends ? DayZ with only 10 or 20 players ?? If you do this you are banning 2 million players from "your" private server. In my view - you have to be crazy. The public hive IS the game.

    How to stop server hopping.

Yes, Evil Minion - we dont disagree (that's the first point) For me the only real 'advantage' of a no-log zone is that it is a solution inside the game, so it becomes part of the gameplay. and any in-game solution seems cool, but outside solutions, like having to wait through a penalty time outside the game, seem less satisfying. That's really my main idea, and I came up with the 'zone' idea after thinking about in-game possibilities. Then I also noticed it's an added plus that you can't log out - in an intense pvp danger zone - because it makes all the action there more exciting and critical... but whatever.. I already put this up as a suggestion. Reading your post I had another idea: Your main point about a penalty log-in waiting time.. ( dont cringe yet) how about a zone of log -in waiting time ? If you log in anywhere out in the country - in the sticks - you can log straight in - whatever you did on other servers previously, but if you want to log in near a major loot location, you suffer the log in penalty you suggest. hmm ? So there would be a tradeoff - if you are a hardcore hopper : do you log-out/log-in close to your destination, and suffer the time penalty? or do you run off into the sticks to log out, and then log back in with no time penalty but with a good distance to cover on this server before you reach your objective? It also means you would be arriving at the airport or barracks across country like normal players, and not popping up in a corner 10 feet from the barracks, or inside the control tower. Yes, and to simplify, why not have the log in waiting time for everyone who wants to log in or out in that zone ? Why else would you want to log in there, except to loot ? = only an idea =

    High Ping kicked off game

Hi balac Door County is a popular vacation and tourist location. I live in the same kind of area (different continent). Usually, where there are hotels and tourist accomodation, there are plenty of internet connectivity solutions, because nearly all the tourists bring a notebook or a playstation with them, and that's all they do in the evenings (except a few) So there must be some low ping (or normal ping) internet access routes around there ? Can you check those out and see what is available. Even a local wifi connection would be much better that your satellite ping. For instance, are you not in range of a hotel, motel, bar, gas station, or civic wifi connection ? Maybe it's free, or low price for locals, or you can do a deal.. ?? Also satellite is expensive and it works badly when it rains or snows. I guess where you live that is .. often ? Perhaps you are far from towns or resorts ? Is there no phone line ? I use ADSL internet connection via an old land line wire telephone connection.. the wire is about 15 km long before it reaches the first exchange group. It works ok.. it's not great, but I can watch youtube and film streaming, and play DayZ usually (except Friday and Saturday night) with plenty of servers at 40-80 ping. Maybe someone on the forums who lives in in your region can suggest better what you might do. You shouldn't say on the forums exactly where you live, but are you in a tourist location ? do you have a land line phone ? Maybe - even - you are close to somewhere you could go and hang out a few hours at the weekend, and play over a good connection ? Or install the game on a pc with a good connection at a relatives house ? [ Perhaps SteakAndPotatoes might have suggestions ; he's a wild woodsman aiming to live on a Bigfoot reservation, I think he knows a lot about being far distant from everything and staying in contact. = just an idea = ] pilgrim
