What a dickbag. So, because someone plays in a way you don't like, you feel like you have to interrupt their play? Hmm....why does that sound an awful lot like the rationale a lot of people give on this forum for their Dbag actions in-game?

What dayz could have been without zombies
Whyherro123 replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I actually rather agree. The way zombies are implemented right now, they might as well not even be a part of the game, for all of the thought and care the playerbase gives to them. Getting chased by 4 zombies? Better book it up a hill in a zig-zag pattern to break LOS! There is no fear, only "how to avoid zombies in order to find phat loots". Along with that, I expect, based on what I've seen in Devlogs and in suggestions from the playerbase, that there will be little to no progression beyond "wilderness survival", which has to be both the easiest and least interesting part of a hypothetical collapse of society. Think about it, in the first few weeks, up to a month or so, after a TSC event, what will happen? People will run around, loot abandoned places, group into gangs, build expedient shelters in the woods , gank other groups for gear, turf wars, or sheer S&G. I find all of that incredibly BORING. Mainly because we all know exactly what will happen. What I find far more interesting is what happens afterwards, during the bushcraft/homesteading stage of survival, when all the surpluses of modern life (ammunition, matches, canned/packaged food, medical supplies, machine-made clothing, etc) have run out, and the various bandit-gangs look at each other with expressions of sudden horror, as they realize that this is all they have left. I, for one, believe humanity will rebuild itself into new communities, building new farms and workshops out of the ruins of the world we left behind, while others believe that humanity will die with "not a bang, but a whimper", descending into cannibalism, barbarity, and ultimately, extinction. Either way, I just find that far more interesting than the standard "loot, go PvP deathmatch in some city, die, loot, repeat" system Day Z currently, and what it looks like, will have. Zombies don't really add anything to that. They aren't even frightening, nor dangerous enough to make looting cities a risk/benefit decision. Just my 2 cents. -
My god, an actual sling is literally the most efficient weapon ever designed. Twirl a rock slowly about your head, then release. The rock will SCREAM to the target, followed by the crack of the sling, which is a sonic-fucking-boom. Centrifugal force is your friend. The only issue with a sling is the time it takes to become proficient (not skilled, proficient, as in "not kill yourself with the damn thing") I have had a sling for about 3 months, practiced with it almost every day, and I am glad to say that I can hit a torso-sized target at 50 paces..............2 out of 5 shots. Using the damn thing is HARD. You have to have a very thorough knowledge of tangents (when you release the cord, the rock flies tangentially from the point of release), speeds and velocities, as well as the effects of wind and aerodynamics of the specific projectile. I had some fun with beach rocks for a while, then made some lead shot by dripping melted tire weights into a bucket of water. Those motherfuckers FLY. Fast and far! It apparently has the perfect balance of weight, aerodynamic properties, and size. I can sling a lead shot about half a mile, with absolutely no sense of accuracy, but watching a shot zoom into the air and landing over 2000 feet away, travelling fast enough to make a baby sonic-boom is a sight to see, and almost as fun as shooting a rifle. Would I take a sling over a rifle? Absolutely fucking not. Would it be an amazing, efficient and effective backup, for both hunting and self-defense. Absolutely!

The first vehicle that should be added
Whyherro123 replied to QUAZIMOFO's topic in General Discussion
It should be the bicycle, easily. Literally the most efficient vehicle ever designed, can carry far more than a human ever could, and never needs refueling. Maintenance is a breeze, and wheels can be improvised out of almost any material at hand. -
What dayz could have been without zombies
Whyherro123 replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
Uh, yeah? That is what would happen in the event of total societal collapse....it would rebuild. I, personally, find the notion of the rebuilding of society far far far more interesting (and fun) than the actual collapse. The collapse is boring, almost trite; society falls apart, everyone starts burning, raping and pillaging, the fall of man, the inner darkness in us all, yadda yadda yadda. However, I want to see, to be a part of, the new dawn of mankind. To see when people stop hurting each other, to see someone offer a hand up instead of a bullet or a club. To see new nations rise up against the darkness that overtook the planet, to see what shapes these new groups hold, what values they espouse... yes, I am an optimist, and incredibly embarrassed that I just revealed that  -

Hell, we should be able to hang living people as well. Bullets are expensive, rope is cheap. -
Why does the cross bow do more damage than the m4?
Whyherro123 replied to taco86's topic in General Discussion
See, the thing is.....we don't believe you. And we won't, unless you give us concrete data saying otherwise (Service records, erc, which you couldn't) I can say my dick is 12 inches long flaccid, just because I say it is doesn't make it so. -
They shouldn't "die", but their limb should be broken at the very least. Do you know how much force an axe head exerts? A metric shit-ton. Centrifugal force is the reason why a sling can lob a rock over half a mile at 300mph, why a hammer can crack a skull with only a slight swing, etc. An axe (or any melee weapon for that matter) should be difficult to use, but cause devastating damage when it hits. You should also be able to perform different swings with different weapons. For example, an axe can be swung, or the head can be thrust into the enemy, to push them away/off balance, to gain more room for the swing. Or, a knife can be horizontally slashed, to cause light bleeding in a wide arc, or stabbed straight on (difficult to aim) to cause massive damage in a wide arc. RL example: I can swing a hammer in at least 3 different styles (and with 3 different "effects") without changing my grip or foot-positions.

How can zombies smell you? They are "just" infected humans, with all of our basic sensory facilities intact. You couldn't smell a person from 500m away, why should a zombie? It makes no sense.

M9A1 Combat Knife: The new fireaxe
Whyherro123 replied to Cap'n (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
As it should. A stab with a 7in blade will cause severe internal bleeding and shock. However, putting a knife through a human skull should be very difficult using only your hands. Mounted on a rifle as a bayonet, however, you should be able to punch through skulls no problem. -

Are you kidding? That game looks fuckawesome! -
I just don't like, nor understand, why it is so dark. Literally, during the summer when I work at a Scout Camp 12 miles away from the nearest sizable town, I can see fine after a few minutes of eye adjustment, even during nights when there is no moon. In-game, I stumblefuck about until I change servers because the night sucks so much.

See this? This is why over 60% of the people who voted in this poll don't want this mechanic. At least one of the reasons.
-
Technically, so long as you stop the cause of shock (in this case, bleeding), rest, eat and drink (to recover lost energy), you will be fine "short-term" Note, this is what happens in-game. You get wounded, lose some "blood" (be put under shock, see above). You then stop the shock (bandage), find a safe place, then eat, drink and relax until you get the "healthy" status. This, IMO, pretty accurately shows shock in a video game setting. I would like to see more of the shock "symptoms"; shaking, nausea, weakness, confusion, blurry vision, etc. Look up shock to see more. I believe it would add more to the game. Infection should be entirely different. And, oral antibiotics won't really stop an internal infection, unless they are high-grade prescriptions. Read: not corner-pharmacy-shit.
-
Again, you are going to cause FAR FAR FAR more damage trying to get the bullet fragments out. Just leave them in! They can't really harm you anymore, unless they are in a blood vessel, organ, or the lungs, in which case you are fucked anyways.
-
Considering how that is the basis of first aid IRL, I would say nothing. After encountering severe bleeding, you apply direct pressure, then move to pressure points. If that doesn't work, you apply tourniquets. In my opinion, stop viewing bleeding as "blood", and instead view it as shock. All injuries, no matter the severity, cause some degree of shock. If you take too much shock at once (a severe injury, surprise, etc) IRL, you can, and probably will, pass out. You can recover from shock and shock symptoms relatively quickly and easily, by: 1) stopping the cause of shock (if bleeding, dress and bandage, till bleeding stops. If in pain, take painkillers etc, to stop pain. You get the idea.) 2) resting 3) eating 4) drinking Guess what that looks like? The in-game "Healthy" status! When you view the in-game "bleeding" statuses as "shock" statuses instead, everything both makes a lot more sense and is far more realistic. I never really liked the massive streaming gouts of blood Day z has anyways. If you bleed hard enough to shoot blood that far, you have arterial bleeding. You are going to fall unconscious within seconds due to a rapid loss in blood pressure. Only a properly-applied (it is possible to fuck up a tourniquet, yes.) will save your life at that point, and you aren't going to be running/fighting for a while.

No...just....no. I have to ask; do you know anything about first aid? If you tried to self-cauterize a wound using a knife, you WILL: 1)Ruin your knife, probably one of the worst things you can do in a survival situation. 2) Not get the bullet out. Knives aren't made for prying. 3) Cause even more damage to your flesh, as well as introducing even more bacteria to the body 4) Pass out, because cauterization fucking HURTS. Bullet fragments are really, really really hot when the bullet leaves the barrel and they enter you. They are practically sterile and, by itself, are not going to cause any disease (the disease would be caused by bacteria on clothing particles pulled into the wound by the bullet). Trying to dig them out of your arm with a heated-up knife (protip, how are you going to hold it? By the handle? That isn't going to happen. Metal conducts heat very well.) will cause possible more damage than the actual gunshot wound, what with you digging and prying about in your muscle. No, that isn't going to happen. Pack the cavity with a sterile dressing, bandage up the wound, sling and immobilize like you would a broken limb, then get your ass to a real doctor, where you can trade your beans and booze for proper medical treatment. Finally, you can survive with a bullet inside of your body, it doesn't necessarily have to be removed. Look at Andrew Jackson. Old Bastard was like a walking armory.

For all of those in support, please make a list (bulleted, whatever) that describes the rationale you have behind supporting such an activity. It would make things far clearer than "REALISM AND STUFFS"
-
Well, according to the above poll, the majority of players do not want a pooping mechanic. I, for one, wouldn't mind it so long as it were done tastefully, with little chance for abuse. It is a "realistic" aspect of survival. Maybe your screen blacks out, you come back in and you lose some water? Don't include an actual "defecating animation", for the love of God. It is just ASKING for players of a certain mindset to utterly ruin and fuck with the rest of the player population.
-
Guys, if I wanted to see someone shit in the woods, I would go take a shit in the woods. The whole unecessariness of adding pooping aside, my concerns stem from the sheer amount of abuse this game mechanic can cause if implemented.
-
You actually don't want to use human fecal matter as a fertilizer for crops. If you do that, you are all but guarenteed to get some sort of parasite....
-
Who in the world shits once per hour? I am "lucky" if I shit twice per day! IRL, when your body is under stress, one of the first systems that is shut down/slowed down is the digestive/excretory system. So, in the actual apocalypse, chances are you would need to shit far far less than you usually do. The second bodily system to usually be shit down is the immune system. Might be why we get sick so easily : )

Even in the midst of a (admittedly, self-inflicted, to "test" myself) real life survival situation, i never got so desperate to drink untreated water. I waited until I had the means to boil my water (namely, a can I found floating in a stream and a fire. That can became my best friend for 3 weeks.) before drinking, no matter how thirsty I became. I know what was likely if I didn't wait. Maybe because I am trained, I am less likely to be desperate? Just adding my two cents here. Also, in dayz you are pretty much actively shooting yourself in the foot, water wise. In a RL survival situation, moving is the last think you should be doing. You can drop your water usage and metabolic rate by a great deal simply by building a decent shelter and sleeping most of the time. Running with full gear and fighting will suck up your bodily reserves pretty fast. Finally, I like how I have pretty much hijacked the thread and created my own little mini-discussion :P
