    Horses in DayZ Standalone

While horses could be a worthwhile addition to the game, in terms of travel and gear-carrying, does anyone actually know how to care for a horse? Treat illnesses, how to properly saddle, pack, and lead the thing? What if it goes lame? See, this is why I prefer a bicycle. They are everywhere, easy to ride and, more importantly, repair (Plus, a full repair kit and spare tubes can be kept under the seat), can be taken off road with the snap of your fingers, and can carry you, you and some gear (strap a milk-crate on the front and back), or just several hundred pounds (look up "Ho Chi Ming Trail" The Vietnamese used bicycles to transport TONS (literal) of military supplies across the mountains of Vietnam and Laos). If it breaks beyond my capabilities to repair, just ditch it and find a new one at the house next door!

I'd rather have a dog than a horse, IMO. A dog, a bicycle, and a shotgun, and I'll be set

    Tulga...oh sweet Tulga

Not yet, but there will be a warm fire, a can of beans, and a shot of whiskey waiting for him!

    Make mics a requirement.

Yeah, pretty much. People apparently don't realize that nighttime sucks balls. Humans are not nocturnal animals, and while we have better night vision than many other mammals, it isn't all that much better. However, I agree that nighttime is way too dark. I work at a Scout camp miles away from any civilization, and I can usually find my way around at night without a flashlight with little to no difficulty. Granted, I've had seven years to learn where everything is, but still.

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

Uh, actually. in-game I prefer to wear more "civilian-y" clothing, maily due to the fact that I don't have to go to the clusterfuck that is a military spawn. Wearing a green hoodie and a pair of hunter pants gives me almost the same capacity as TTSKO gear, with the benefits of being absolutely EVERYWHERE
  6. And you know this....how? Are you a developer? If not, I am (and have been) 99.9% certain you are either espousing your own opinions, or just plain pulling stuff out of your ass.
  7. Have fun playing on a single server, then. The moment Day Z stops being profitable for Bohemia, they will shut it down. Want to know what but one way the game will become less profitable? If the playerbase dwindles Once a person owns a game, the developers cease getting money from that player. The only (hyperbolic, here) way the developers can get more money is through further purchases, usually by new players purchasing the game. If a new player quits, and tells 3 friends not to buy the game because they were constantly griefed/treated like shit/told to GTFO, they just lost 4 game-costs. If each of those three people tell 3 more people, they just lost 10. Three Hundred Dollars, from "only" 10 pissed off people. Multiply that by 1000, or 100,000. What was the player population last update? If you haven't realized it, games cost money. They cost money to develop, cost money for staff, server privileges cost money, bandwith costs money, Anti-cheat programs cost money, advertising costs money. If the only way the company can get more money is to draw in new players, then they should be doing everything in their power to keep them, so they further draw in their friends. You GROW or you DIE. So, if the Standalone ends up having a small, "dedicated" playerbase due to general asshatery on behave of the veteran players, kicking out new players and treating them like shit, how long will it last before the playerbase gets unprofitable? How long before server sponsors don't want to pay anymore, and the servers dwindle? What will you do, sit in a circle and circlejerk each other? I AM NOT SAYING THE GAME SHOULD BE EASY. We should just welcome new players 'just a tad' bit better, whether giving them some sort of tutorial so they can learn the damn controls, how the different game mechanics (blood, health, injuries, etc) work, so they would be more likely to stay, or just not treating them like shit (see each and every one of your posts) Again, you GROW or you DIE. Also, as an aside, you really need to chill the fuck out. It is just a fucking game, mate. Go get laid, have a drink, and relax. You are going to have a goddamn aneurysm.
  8. Nothing wrong with giving new/unskilled players some place to actually learn how to play without being endlessly killed. That is something I've never understood about the people who scream that "Day Z isn't for casual/bad/new players! It is supposed to be difficult! Get good or get out!". Yes, that might be true, but what do you think happens when a new player is mindlessly griefed over and over again? They either become vicious "like-becomes like" KOS-ers, or they quit. And when they quit, they tell their friends about how shitty the game Day Z is, because they playerbase is a bunch of dicks/there is no help available on the forums/etc. Then no new players buy the damn game. Eventually, the playerbase would be incredibly small, and ultimately nonsustaining for BI to continue supporting. Then they shut excess servers down. There is NOTHING wrong with giving new players some place to, you know, learn how to play. The game can still be difficult, with a steep learning curve, but do SOMETHING to keep the new people, and the game will continue to grow. Also: You do realize that the server name is just a goddamn name, right? All the owners can do is name their server and reset it. They can't enforce any esoteric rule, like "no KOS", Get your panties out of that twist and brush the sand out of your vagina.
  9. That is nice. What about the rest of the body? You shouldn't be able to tank axe blows/knife stabs/what may you, regardless of where they hit. Have you ever hit yourself in the limb before? I have, because of a stupid mistake with a 3/4-sized (I am a rather small man, so a smaller axe is more comfortable to use) splitting axe. The axe-head sheared through the log I was splitting, bounced off the platform, and literally bounced off my shin. The axe was travelling under it's own weight and inertia at that point (without me putting any muscle behind the swing, as that is how you are supposed to split logs), and only struck my leg a glancing blow via the toe of the blade. It SPLIT my shinbone in HALF (like a log, hehehe), without splitting the skin open. I wasn't bleeding (not on the outside, at least), but I was in A LOT of pain, and most definitely could not walk on the leg. I was lucky I had someone with me, as otherwise I would have been screwed. Now imagine if I had put some strength behind that, and aimed it at your chest. Should an axe or other melee weapon beat a firearm in a fight across an open field? Of course not. Should a melee weapon be able to be put into play faster than a longarm in CQC or in urban combat? Yep. Melee weapons are tools of ambush, and therefore, should kill someone dead, not take 8-10 blows to kill someone. Look at the latest video posted in the KOS thread, of someone wandering around Elektro axing people. They take more than 8 hits to die! Ridiculous.
  10. I agree. Melee weapons should be far, far more effective in CQC than bare fists. It is, after all, why they were invented in the first place! I would like to see three different damage "types" present, each doing different "levels" of damage and with different effects. -Bludgeon: fists, bat, wrench, hammer, axe etc. Do low (fists) to extremely high (hammer, sledge) impact damage, with the possibility of breaking bones and causing shock-knockouts as the damage goes higher, alongside internal bleeding. Very slow attack speed. -Slash: slashing with knives. low damage, with superficial surface bleeding. Very high attack speed. -Stab: Stabbing with knives, spears. High damage, with high chance of internal bleeding, but extremely hard to aim and attack is telegraphed a lot.. Medium attack speed.

    Looks or functionality

Function over form any day of the week. Normally, I wear camo BDU's, as they have the most storage space and makes it easier to hide from players. I also wear a boonie hat, but switch to a helmet when going into a city/near-certain combat.
  12. Whyherro123

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

But....why? A LOT of people own milspec/milsurp equipment. It is relatively comfortable, wear-resistant, etc (all of this has been outlined before). Military units wear patches/unit blazons. Civilians don't. Makes it easy to identify a non-soldier.
  13. Whyherro123

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

This is why players should be locked to a server.
  14. Whyherro123

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

Exactly. To me, as someone who is trained in wilderness survival and buschcraft, "survival" is not "build a shelter, treat drinking water, trap animals". All that is only skills learned and time spent. Survival is fear, survival is want, survival is panic, survival is decision-making to the utmost extreme. I want to have to ponder, " hmm, do I shoot this deer with my last buckshot shell, to have something substantial to eat tonight, or do it save it to defend myself from a zombie or a hostile survivor?" "Do I go into that town to look for medicine, and risk getting killed by a zombie or a person?" Not YOLO-running through a major city because the spawn is 5 minutes down the beach. I also want to have traps implemented, so I don't have to waste my time hunting for small game, like rabbits or squirrels. People not in the know don't seem to realize that traps actually have a very low success rate, (my rate is about 10%, and I live in an area where there has been an EXPLOSION in the rabbit population). You can set up 6 or more traps, and come back to them in the morning to find that not a one has been triggered. That is why you set up so many along different animal runs, to improve your chances of catching something. That is why I switched to carrying 2 large-sized rat-traps in my kit, 100% success rate!

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

I have no problem with there being plenty of clothing, equipment, and other gear around. It is realistic, and hell, the other day, I helped a friend clear out his cousins (he moved) house. We found damn near enough clothing for every player on a 40-person server to have a change of clothes! However, bullets most definitely should be rarer. Just yesterday, I found 60 .357 revolver rounds. 60 goddamn bullets. In 5 minutes of searching the southern part of Berezino. I was already carrying 30, so I dumped the 60 in a bush alongside the road as I travelled back to Dolina.

    Damn straight.

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

We don't get Moose all that much in Massachusetts, my Troop goes camping on private BSA property (where personal firearms aren't allowed), and if we go outside the boundary line, I wear blaze orange anyways. I usually only wear the trousers, as the jacket gets rather hot after a while.
  18. Whyherro123

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

Yeah, pretty much. I've got some milsurp Forest BDU's in my closet that I use when I go camping. The whole ensemble consists of a shirt-jacket (with 4 pockets), trousers (with 6 pockets), boots, and a web belt, on which I can carry about 3 MOLLE-compatible pouches. All of these articles of clothing put together can carry about 3 days worth of gear comfortably. Better yet, it is somewhat water-resistant, tear-resistant, comfortable, and can hide me almost anywhere (it breaks up your outline, which is far more important in camouflage than simple coloration) Why would I wear anything else?
  19. Whyherro123

    what gives you most satisfaction?

Yeah, I can agree with the killing of pre-pubescent children, especially when they initiate their own death. I don't agree with KOS, but when an-apparently 11 year old kid runs up to me, shrieking obscenities, and tries to punch me through my helmet, nothing beats putting them down. I actually prefer to break their legs, patch them up, and send the on their way, (hopefully) humbled. Be careful, though, they usually roam in packs.
  20. I would like to make a couple of points about loot, namely, how much should actually be found in-game. The truth of the matter is, it really depends on how long it has been since structured society shat the bed. I have seen many posts in "survival" threads about how people want loot spawns drastically reduced, about how finding only a little bit is "realistic", and how the player should be forced to rely on themselves. Again, I say the availability of loot is really dependent on the time-frame of the setting. See, I don't think many people realize just how much STUFF we produce as a species, and release into the environment. You can travel to the most desolate coastline in the world (Antarctica), and find enough accumulated detritus to build a mock Stonehenge out of toilet bowls (seriously, look it up) Point being, in the first few days/weeks after a TSC event, there would be a lot of "stuff" left over. Canned food, clothing, ammuntion, etc. With a major (if not most) of the population dead from zombe-ism (which is SIGNIFICANTLY different from a "realistic" TSC-event, where most of the dieoff would take place over months and years), there would effectively be a lot of stuff "left behind", as it were. Every player would be able to find multiple articles of factory-made clothing, (maybe) fresh fruit on shelves, including tropical species, ammunition by the caseload, etc. On the other hand, if you want "found" gear to be scarce, then the game would have to be set years after the TSC-event. Canned goods, even if rotated properly, only really can last 5 years. Modern (smokeless powder) ammunition degrades over time, so does gasoline. So, in this instance, gear would be extremely rare, and people would have to make their own spears/bows/primitive firearms, but that would (YMMV on this one, as I have a multitude of ideas about what could be done with this period of time) also severely limit group play. There would effectively be no vehicles, as they havent been produced for years, and have no fuel to run off of/no lubricants/no oil. There would be no M4A1 assault carbines, nor "modern" bullets to shoot. Clothing would be made of hides and crude cloth, and gear-carrying-equipment would be limited to small packs, bags, and belt pouches. There would be no morphine to fix broken legs, nor antibiotics to treat infections, just a cosh to the head to put you out of your misery. Essentially, Day z set in the 1700s. (Which, to be honest, I've developed a tabletop RPG set during a zombie apocalypse in the Jamestown Colony. Kicks ass, my players LOVE it. Up to you guys. You can't have both and cry realism.

    Loot Availability discussion: Reality

Haha good luck trying that in real life, the boar would tear you to pieces, and probably eat you when he was done.

    Loot Availability discussion: Reality

Thanks, Mr. Forum Police Officer Sir. I AM, however, allowed to express my opinions. So, if you don't have anything meaningful to add to the discussion, please (and I mean this in the kindest way possible) go bother someone else. Big boys are talking, here.

Why is the Sporter .22 so underpowered?

I don't really understand why people think a .22LR weapon is this ubersilent weapon. Most .22LR rounds still break the sound barrier. Yes, there are subsonic .22LR cartridges, but they are rare, and apparently are not as lethal (my state forbids the usage of subsonic .22LR cartridges in small-game and varmit-hunting) Anecdotal: I work at a Boy Scout Camp during the summer, and the kids shoot .22LR-chambered bolt actions. We own 1000 acres, and when the ranges are hot, you can hear it, no matter where in camp you are. They aren't a "pop".

    Arrows?

Was the experimental stuff pushed to stable? -Pants-
  25. For one, they are't "zombies", they are people infected with a disease, like rabies or somesuch. And, making them a head-wound-only kill is STUPID AND FOOLISH. If anything, melee weapons need to be buffed, but made more difficult to use. There are many reasons why soldiers today use firearms instead of swords and spears, and the ease of use/lowered training times is one of them. Protip: if you ran at me, and I sidestepped and hit you in the chest with a splitting axe, ALL OF YOUR RIBS WOULD BE BROKEN. You would have bone fragments in the bloodstream, perforated lungs, and spears of your own ribs punching through your heart. You would be dead, especially with the medical treatment there is in-game.
