I do think that this would be interesting, but not really possible. I play a game (more of a mod) for Mount and Blade Warband called Brytenwalda, and in-game you get some serious damage bonuses for attacking from behind. Maybe this could be implemented in-game, to partially make melee weapons more valuable as stealth-and-ambush weapons?

Have you thrown a knife before? 1) A knife designed for use in the hand is most decidedly going to not be balanced for throwing 2) Even if you do have a throwing knife, it will take WEEKS of practice to get it to hit point-first, from more than one distance. (A know a kid from summer camp, bought a throwing knife set at the beginning of summer. Took him 6 weeks to be able to stick a knife within a 5 foot circle from 15 feet away consistently. When he moved closer or further away, he always missed) 3) Throwing a knife as a weapon is stupid. For more damage, throw a rock. For more accuracy, use an arrow. For both, use a bullet.

I have no idea how a zombie (essentially, little more than a pissed-off human) can take a swipe (not even grabbing and trying to tear, just a punch) at your torso and wreck all of your clothing. It is unrealistic and it is stupid. You should still be injured (let someone walk up to you and punch you in the chest; you are going to feel it!) but your clothing shouldn't be ruined. Case in point, I, IRL, can't rip my BDU's by hand. By falling and getting them caught on stuff, yes, but not with sheer force alone.

Why do you get so little meat when butchering even a relatively large animal? Case in point, I shot a deer the other day and butchered it with a machete ( I am not sure how this worked, as machetes tend to not have sharp edges or blade profiles that are conducive to slaughtering game). I only got about 6 steaks, all about 9-11% Why is this? In real life, a deer should be able to hold you over for several days, including all of the meat, entrails (some of which are DELICIOUS), bone marrow, etc. And, why do you need specific knives to slaughter game? I've butchered a deer using a goddamn tomahawk before, which was actually easier than using some parts of a butchering kit....

You will change your tune when weapon maintenance, jamming, malfunctioning, and alternate ammunition is added in. That bolt action will sure look sweet when your AR seizes up because you never cleaned it (something which I would hope to take an "appreciable" amount of time, IMHO), and the shotgun being capable of firing birdshot, buckshot, slugs, beanbags, flares, etc (all with appropriate damages, spreads and ranges) will be infinitely more versatile than a bog-standard AKM firing a single type of round.

Do you want the new version of NEAF?
Whyherro123 replied to leefriendfield's topic in General Discussion
Yeah, I agree. Throw a hanger in there, all they spawn is boots and rifle attachments anyways. Nothing gamebreaking, and infinitely more realistic. -
On my person, everywhere I go, I carry: A decent (4 in blade) folding knife Keyring, containing: -Firesteel -Whistle -Small piece of mirror -keys (duh) Bracelet containing 30feet of paracord Watch Why then do we spawn with a flashlight? Having gear doesn't make it easier to survive, it just makes it more likely. If you don't know proper fire lays for use in inclement weather, you won't get a fire going in a rainstorm (something which I can do, and my survival classes usually can't.) even with 200 matches. Skills > Gear in my book. Not that I am disagreeing with you.

Take hands, rip meat off bones, pull out bones, boom.

Why oh why did the devs make the berries in-game the exact opposite of their real-life counterparts? Granted, in a real life survival situation, I would avoid berries almost entirely, because most berries as whole act as a diuretic when eaten in large quantities, however, there are some general rules concerning berry edibility that are clearly not followed. 1) Do not eat berry unless it is positively identified. (This stands for every source of plant food) 2) Avoid red, white, yellow or green berries, unless positively identified 3) When examining blue berries, look for "crown" on base (These "King Berries" tend to be edible) 4) Do not eat large amounts of berries in one sitting, as even edible ones either act as a diuretic (due to the body rejecting the unaccustomed, if perfectly safe, food) or will make you shit your brains out anyways due to the high water content. Now, the blue berries in-game are toxic, and will make you sick. Why, then, did the devs give them the model of a berry that is almost universally edible, tasty, and common (Hint, its a Blueberry)? And why are the edible red berries FUCKING HOLLY BERRIES?! If you eat holly berries IRL, you will be vomiting, shitting everywhere, and stumbling around for hours on end, due to adverse reactions. Now, I could see if the red berries were something like a Raspberry or a Cranberry, but obviously, my real-world survival knowledge is apparently useless. I skipped over the red berries and ate up a shit-ton of the blue ones, and died as a result. Stupid. Ask someone with some actual woods-lore knowledge next time.

The condition of your knife should in no way impact the condition of the cuts of meat. Yes, a sharp knife will make the job easier, but butchering can be done with essentially your bare hands! Again, see above, used a MACHETE. Machetes are not designed for "slicing", they hack through pithy vegetation!

That will essentially ban the game from literally every country on the face of the planet, up to and including the US.

Yet ANOTHER person who believes that KOS is realistic! Children these days... People running around murdering each other for the hell of it is so goddamned unrealistic, I laugh whenever someone plays the "realism" card with regards to KOS. It is not, in any way, shape or form, conducive to real-life psychology, group dynamics, or interpersonal relations. Just admit that you get your jollies from pissing other people off, and half of the whiners would probably disappear. Bear in mind that the entire human species has never seen a total collapse of society in the entirety of recorded history, going back to the goddamned Bronze Age. Never. Not Once. So you have no examples to draw on. As do I, but I can draw from other, related events and how the communities involved reacted. In fact, as time has gone on, we have become more close-knit, more friendly, less violent, more helpful, just plain nicer to each other. How do you think communities formed in the first place, back in the dawn of history? How do you think that communities would form again, after the collapse of society? People helped each other out, working towards a common goal (survival). Many hands make for light work, and having someone to watch your back is a very comforting feeling. This is why I train survival classes in groups. Which sounds more like Day Z, and which sounds more like "real life"? -Two survivors come across each other in the middle of a town. 1) Survivors instantly draw weapons, start spraying rounds at each other due to horrible dispersion of firearms. One person gets shot and dies, other person trash-talks the deceased. 2) Survivors warily size each other up. #1: Hey, man #2: Hey .... #2 Where are you headed? #1: Anywhere away from here. There are some bandits back in the last town that kill anyone they find. I am trying to find a safe place for my family to move to. #2: I have a family too! How often do the bandits come through? #1: They last came through this morning, better watch yourself. Also, I saw you come out of the clinic. My son/wife/whatever has a bad infection on their leg, where there any antibiotics left? #2: Yeah. In return for the information, I'll give you these. If you are looking for somewhere safer than the rest, head on up to -X-, they have a survivor community, with power, safe water, and they always need workers. Use my name and they'll let you in. #1 : Thanks, I will. Stay Safe out there! -Survivor community eventually forms a militia and pushes out/kills off the bandits- KOS is inherently unrealistic. Do it for fun, whatever, but don't say it is realistic. I wrote a thread about this and other post-apocalypse topics (look up "Why the apocalypse would be better and worse than you think")

Is this not supposed to be a survival game, or, at the very least, have some aspects of survival? If so, the season, temperature, climate, and the effects on the environment all have a major part to play in survival.
-
Sigh...... Different environment, different ecosystems, yadda yadda yadda all of the animals from different ecoclimes would DIE. Has nobody realized that it is AUTUMN in-game?

Removing spawns is making this game bad

It is labelled in-game as a TOURIST MAP you clod. Where I am from, maps designed for tourists are usually written in multiple languages (in Boston, Spanish and Quebecois) -
Why not? As you use a firearm more in real life, you become more "used" to its particular quirks, and get more accurate, more proficient at reloading the weapon, etc. I would like to see a weapon skill system similar to that of World of Tanks; Each tank has specific characteristics, like top speed, turret turning speed, reload time, etc. Your crew starts out at 50%, meaning they perform at 50% of the tanks characteristics due to inexperience. As your crew gets better, they obviously perform better, until they reach 100%,meaning they perform at 100% of the tanks specifications, but no better. At this point, they also unlock additional skills, like increasing the turning speed of your tank on rough ground (represents an in-depth knowledge of the engine, and how to push it), being better able to reload specific shell types (due to ingrained muscle memory.) A tank with 100% crew, good modules, and effective skills is a machine to be feared. but you most certainly can be killed by a noob if you make a foolish tactical mistake, or do something stupid. You aren't God, just more experienced. And this proficiency doesn't cross tanks, either. Crew members lose proficiency (ranging from a little, when changing between tanks in the same class, or it can be a LOT, if changing between classes) when retraining on different tanks, affecting battle performance.. So, in Day Z, you can become really good with a Mosin due to (extensive) practice, but absolutely suck at using the M4, because you've never used one before.

Why? What sort of dumbass doesn't wipe off their tools after they use them. ESPECIALLY ones involving food? Also, you can totally open a can without a goddamn can-opener.

WHY are the big buildings not big?
Whyherro123 replied to Shrub Rocketeer ™'s topic in General Discussion
Exactly, I ran (well, jogged) from Gdznovo (whatever) to Krasnostav in about 5 minutes. It takes me 20 minutes to get from New Bedford to Wareham by highway (going 75 mph). There are towns in between New Bedford and Wareham, but they are "smaller" with smaller land areas and "only" 5-8 thousand residents. Each of these smaller towns has a developed "downtown" area equal to or larger than Cherno, with a seemingly higher population. Maybe South Zagoria is just really fucking poor and undersettled, with the other regions of Chernarus being more urbanized/industrialized, and correspondingly more wealthy/higher population? Also, maybe this underdevelopment is partially caused by a lack of waterways. Literally every single coastal town in Massachusetts has its own natural harbor, made by a river that the harbor is the mouth of. Each of these rivers flows through an inland town. In the Colonial period, settlement started at the river mouth and went upstream, building mills and industry as it went. South Zagoria,on the other hand, has no major rivers. All of the harbors are man-made. I can think of two major landforms where rivers would be likely, that Bay in between Cherno and Elektro, and Guba, the Bay next to Svetlo. Also, why are there mountains right next to the ocean coast? Where are the alluvial/coastal floodplains? The mountains should catch clouds and precipitation, forming a large number of small rivers and fertile valleys. These aren't necessarily small either; the entire eastern half of Massachusetts is a coastal floodplain, maybe up to 200 miles inland. Bohemia Interactive = Geography Fail. -

I agree, but only with regards to the actual sizes of the cities and towns. Urban areas are MINUSCULE in Day Z. For example, I live in "only" the 6th largest city in Massachusetts. It has a population of 95,000 people living in 24 square miles. Hell, the town I lived in before New Bedford, Wareham, has a population of 21,000 people in 46 square miles, and it is STILL more heavily developed than Chernogorsk! -
Oh Tulga, sweet little hideaway up in the mountains....what wonderful views! What amazing sight-lines! When foraging and hunting is pushed to stable, I will be able to survive forever and ever off of apples and deer, and watch for the hated bandits coming up three separate roads from the top of a very expedient mountain top. Said mountaintop has a cluster of rocks that can shelter a fire easily, as well as protect me from rain (It's happened, and being in a certain rock-cleft prevented me from getting wet) Anybody else find a nice little hideaway for when the foraging and fires comes a-calling?
-
Hey, hey, there are two clefts! You can have one and I can have the other! Sharing is caring!
-
Actually, that is false. It was actually discovered that hunter-gatherers lived longer, cleaner lives than their agrarian counterparts. They could also meet their nutritional demands with about 20 hours of work per week, vs early farmings 50+. Agriculture eventually became more worthwhile, but it sucks ballsack while we were figuring it out.

Agreed. That is dumb. Same thing with them taking down cows. Cows are BIG. I dare somebody to walk up to a cow and piss it off. I'll visit you in the hospital.
