  1. If this were a real life event, all the bandits would be dead within weeks. So, no worries. And, I highly doubt you have any experience in CQC, if you think a goddamn pocketknife is going to save your life in a fight. Or you that you will be able to get to a set of handcuff keys stuffed in your ass when you yourself are already handcuffed. Have you stuffed anything up your rectum before? I haven't, and even I know carrying anything up there would be exceedingly uncomfortable, and taking anything out of there would be a long, dirty and uncomfortable process.
  2. In all of my many years as a Wilderness Survival Instructor, I have never, EVER EVER, even had to consider hiding something up my ass. I have either had pockets, MOLLE pouches, or my goddamn hands.
  3. Are you seriously considering hiding stuff up your ass? You....do realize there are websites that cater specifically to your specific fetish, right? FOR FREE

What's the current hacking status like in DayZ:SA?

Just got hit by that stupid "teleport everyone to the Vybor bridge" hack. And I know it was a hack because there was some guy (not a black woman" zipping around wasting us all with an M4. This is stupid.

Face It - This game is PvE

And in three months, what will you do when there is no more bags of rice laying about? The Devs have already said that canned food spawns will be decreased as we get closer to the finished product. Seriously, some of the posters on this forum apparently have no idea what a survival game is supposed to be. Just because fish are harder (and that is only because the game makes you jump through so many hoops. IRL, fish is one of the easiest sources of protein to get) to catch, doesn't mean it should "provide any more health". Want to know what provides the most energy? Fat and carbohydrates. You can get fat from animals, and carbohydrates from any of the crops growing around Chernarus. Also, wild plants like Cat-tails, Fragmite reeds, and lilypad tubers are all high in carbohydrates. Talk to someone actually trained in wilderness survival before you make claims, please. IRL, if you (an untrained individual) attempted to inject a bloodbag (If you could find one that hadn't spoiled from the heat. With no power and no refrigeration, bloodbags would only last for a couple of days at most) into yourself, you would most likely die from air pockets injected with the blood. UNREALISTIC Eating cooked meat is literally the same thing as eating any other food. "Blood" is a stupid way to measure health. "Shock" makes more sense, according to the in-game implementations of healing. PS, Have you tried experimental? Be prepared to die from hypothermia when it gets ported over to stable. As a survival trainer, I think you get hypothermia a little too fast, especially during a sunny day while wearing a sweatshirt, but at least it is a step in the right direction.

M4A1 Can i be added back to Genral Military?

IRL, the M4 is a very versatile weapon platform. You can attach literally anything you want onto it, including barrels in different caliber sizes (.50 Beowulf comes to mind) with only a few minutes of work and little more than a screwdriver. Also, unlike DayZ, the M4 is pretty accurate, so long as it is properly maintained. Finally, 5.56mm is FAR lighter than 7.62mm, allowing a soldier to carry far more ammunition, and therefore be less dependent on base supply, than an AK-platform armed soldier. IRL, the M4 is: Reliable, so long as maintenance is regularly done (this is the same for every firearm, including the much-lauded AK. I guarantee if you don't clean your AK, it will jam)Accurate, more so than the AK, which was designed for mass-automatic fire.Modular, capable of being equipped for urban breach-and-clear one day, then for long range Designated Marksman fire the next. Switch out the barrels, switch out the optics, add a bipod, and you are set.Lightweight. IRL, heavy things are bad. Day Z doesn't have a weight system, so you can't tell the difference between the M4's 7.5lbs loaded and the AKM's 9.something pounds"Better" ammunition. 5.56x45mm NATO is half the weight of 7.62x51mm NATO (I am assuming 7.62x39mmR is at least closer to 7.62mmNATO than 5.56mmNATO), with reduced recoil, reduced muzzle flash, better plate penetration, flatter bullet trajectory, etc. IRL, the M4 platform is the objectively "better" rifle, with many countries around the world either using it straight, or one of their own derivatives. Note, this includes many former Warsaw Pact countries.

Face It - This game is PvE

Why? Instead of viewing the "healthy" status as health or blood, view it instead as "shock", the condition your body enters whenever injured, no matter how minor. Shock can have many effects, such as blurred vision, trembling, vomiting, loss of senses, confusion, loss of conciousness, and even death. To treat shock, you must first remove the cause of the shock (bleeding; stop bleeding and pain, broken limb; immobilize and stop pain, etc etc.) Once the shock is stopped, you can recover via rest, re-hydration and the consumption of food.... Doesn't that sound familiar? I've always considered "blood" and "healthy" to mean shock, because I have somewhat of an idea how the human body works, and shock seems far FAR more plausible than blood. It also explains how we survive gunshots to the torso; adrenaline is preventing the primary symptoms of shock until 1)after the adrenaline wears off and/or 2) the shock symptoms overwhelm the adrenaline response.

    Wooden arrows?

It is very fun, and nothing is more satisfying than shooting arrows you've made from a bow you've made. However, it is rather technical, and if you don't know what you are doing, it pretty much isn't worth it. A well-made spear (which I have as well) is worth more than a poorly made bow. A bowshaft is under many different forces, some of them in opposition. If you don't shape it juuuuussssstttttt right, the bow will break, in the very least. I've had a bowshaft explode in my hands when trying to string it, after about 6 hours of shaping. I had microscopic splinters in my forehead, cheeks and neck for weeks (NOTE: wear safety goggles) Plus, it takes a lot of training to use a bow effectively. I "downsized" from the 80lb bow to a 40lb selfbow from birch for that exact reason. The harder the pull, the more training it requires. However, I can now hit a gallon-milk-jug sized target at 20 yards 7/100 times.

Why? At least the PU scope is a documented attachment for the Nagant 91/30

    The 'war on snipers'

Damn straight In my studies, the people who would live the longest (and happiest) lives in a SHTF scenario would be the people who band together in groups, form communities, and behave rather openly to outsiders and strangers. The people who would be the first to die would be the survivalists and preppers, who sit in their cabins polishing their guns. They would die either from starvation (preindustrial farming is HARD), injuries (cant farm or hunt with a broken leg!), or just general mistrust of others , either on their part or on the part of the communities they refuse to interact with.

    The 'war on snipers'

Really? This game is so unrealistic in that department, I am actually kind of judging you for using it as a marker. http://www.cracked.com/article_21251_5-things-every-movie-gets-wrong-about-apocalypse.html While it may be on a comedy website, it still is pretty good. Real life is completely different from Day Z. In real life, if an event of this magnitude were to happen (which it hasn't not once in 40,000 years of human development and civilization), people wouldn't run around fuckmurdering each other, especially if there were few survivors. In my experience (trained in Disaster management, disaster preparedness, wilderness survival, and group management), people have a tendency to come together when the SHTF, not fall apart. Mutual support, working together, and safety trumps dominance, apparently. Case in point, I once ran a wilderness survival class for a group of 15 or so older teenagers. They were split into different groups, each with different "goals" (signal a plane, walk out of the woods, stay in the woods for a week, avoid all contact, etc), which were often at cross-purposes. All the groups also were competing for a very limited supply of equipment, preserved food, and containers of water. Everything else they had to make or find. ALL of the groups came together very soon after finding each other, even the ones working against the others. They set up a massive camp, and helped each other with tasks, treating the injured ( I had some of my staff pretend to be various stages of wounded.) I introduced some more equipment, later on, and the group gave it up to whoever needed it more, without considering their "secret" tasks. It turned out that the whole group waited until the "injured" were healthy enough to move, then slowly made their way back to civilization. None of the groups completed their tasks, and when I asked why, they said that staying together and helping each other was "more important than winning" ( I had set up the whole thing like a contest, with whatever group competing their task first "winning" ie passing the class). They also said they were a lot less "afraid" when they were together, than in smaller groups, and could get a lot more done due to division of labor. TL;DR people run around killing each other in Day Z because 1) It is a game and 2) Because there isn't all that much to do otherwise 3) There are no consequences (killing everyone you come across in a real life SHTF scenario would quickly get you exiled from the group, as nobody would trust you or want to trade)

    The 'war on snipers'

    1) Sniping in real life is difficult, with advanced training, equipment, and experience required. 2) The Mosin Nagant 91/30 should NOT be the go-to rifle for long range combat. That have middling-to-poor accuracy, due to often-rushed production. If anything, they should be "Survivor's First Longrifle", due to how many were produced, MASSIVE Soviet stockpiles, and the existance of cheap, shitty ammo (In the US, I can purchase an "average" 91/30 Nagant for about $80-100, and a caseload [probably 500 rounds or more] of cheap, corrosive ammunition for another $50, not including shipping) 3) The Nagant 91/30 should NOT be able to mount a LRS. The bayonet and the PU scope should be it
  13. Do you know how many Mosin Nagant, 91/30 Rifles were made? Probably, with only slight exaggeration here, there were MILLIONS of these rifles made. The Soviets made stockpiles of these things 20 feet deep, to the point where you can buy one in the US for $120 for a good rifle, and $90-100 for an "average" one. TL:DR Mosin Nagants could easily be the most common firearm in the game. However, they shouldn't have any attachments with the exception of the bayonet and the PU scope.
  14. lrn2bullet 7.62x54mm (and 7.62x51mm, for that matter) is a full sized rifle round. 7.62x39mm is an intermediate cartridge. Much less power.

    About Wallet Usage

Why? Bullets only have one use, and you would essentially be bankrupting yourself by shooting them. Also, if you don't have a firearm chambered in that caliber, the bullets are literally worthless. Also, bullets (more the gunpowder, specifically) go "bad" (decreased power, range, accuracy) over time due to chemical decomposition. Also, quality cannot be controlled very easily. Scarcity of replacement smokeless powder, primers, and worn out cases (modern bullets require chemicals and supplies from around the world. If the shit hits the fan, there would be no more bullets being made) limits the supply of available currency. Eventually, the supply would get to the point were you would be "better off" hoarding bullets than using them, AKA useless as currency, or as a trade good, for that matter. And if a group can make more ammunition, chances are they are using commodity currency (money based off the recognized value of a specific trade good), or hell, if they are powerful enough to dominate trade in a region, fiat currency. (Essentially, governments say how much their currency is worth because they'll kick your ass if you disagree.) Again, hard alcohol. Can't go wrong. Solid trade good, and a good basis for a commodity-based currency.

A couple new things from this weeks Status Report

Damn straight. My mate went to the NWAF the other day, found 7 75 round drum mags for the AKM, all full. SO much for " scarcity, surviving bullet to bullet", eh?
  18. Whyherro123

    Wooden arrows?

Maybe. All I know is that I use the same wooden arrows in my 80-ish pound selfbow that I used in my 45lb compound. I've never had any problems with it. Maybe a higher weight compound would be correspondingly more dangerous? (Even though you don't really need a higher weight compound. 45lbs is more than enough to kill a deer [or a person] with proper shot placement)

    About Wallet Usage

I've said it before, and I'll say it again; In a RL collapse of society (hypothetical, as such a situation has never happened in over 40,000 of human development and civilization) hard alcohol would be the go-to "medium of exchange", and the basis for a new form of currency. Why? It has so many survival uses, it isn't even funny. With moonshine made from surplus crops, you can make water drinkable, clean wounds, sterilize medical equipment, lubricate industrial machinery, power diesel engines, light up the night via lamps, as well as a general painkiller (duh) and extra caloric intake. The quality can be controlled relatively easily (unlike metal coins, which require knowledge of metallurgical processes), and the quantity can be controlled by only allowing certain brewers to make it, or having different proofs of alcohol having different values. This actually occurred in Colonial America, with whiskey being used as money more so than British coin. After a while, once industry gets started, there would be some form of actual currency, whether coinage, paper, clay, etc. But, I would be willing to hazard a guess that this currency would be based off of hard alcohol. For example, " One copper coin gets you 1 gallon of 100 proof corn moonshine. The coin can be broken into 8 pieces, like old Spanish Dubloons, each piece is worth 1 pint of the same. Lower proof alcohol is worth proportionally less, as it has fewer possible uses."

Because then, when the stories of you going around murdering merchants gets around, NOBODY will want to travel in your general vicinity, much less trade with you. Have fun starving to death, with zero bullets for your gun.

    Wooden arrows?

The forces involved in a crossbow are of significantly higher magnitude than a self/compound bow of the same size. Are there wooden crossbow bolts? Yes Are they significantly different (thicker, shorter, heavily reinforced) than arrows? Yes. The forces are different.
  22. Whyherro123

    Wooden arrows?

Not quite. The "jolt" you get from a compound bow is the exact same jolt you would get from a selfbow of similar draw weight. Both arrows are going to be "jolted", due to the rapid acceleration of the string, then the arrow. Again, there is little "physical" difference in a compound bow and a selfbow, both fire arrows in exactly the same way. A compound is just easier to draw and hold due to mechanical assistance.

    New dog tag system?

I am sorry, but why are you so unmitigatedly unpleasant? All he is doing is expressing an opinion....
  24. Whyherro123

    New dog tag system?

Exactly. Industry has collapsed, nobody will be making new ones, at least not until industry starts up again ( That is an interesting idea. You aren't considered a "real clan member" until you get a dog tag, whcih would also signify your clan is advanced enough technology-wise to stamp sheet metal (Useful for reloading ammunition?). Clans can use enemy dogs tags as "war trophies" and bragging rights XD) Plus, having a chain around your neck is a liability in CQC. I can grab it, and introduce your neck to the edge of my roofers hatchet, easily the most effective CQC weapon EVER. http://www.garrettwade.com/all-purpose-box-hatchet/p/08A01.02/
