I've made a bowstring, several in fact. Take waxed cord, braid it to the appropriate brace height. Done. Braiding isn't even difficult; and 5 year old girl can do it. You can take the threads out of clothing pretty easily, and braid them into new cords. Bowmaking/arrowmaking is more difficult. It requires skill and knowledge. However, if you know what you are doing, you can make a bow that is VERY deadly. Don't forget, archery was only really superseded as a weapon of war in the late 1800's, with the introduction of repeating, multishot firearms.

Don't be a putz. Take a look at the overwhelming majority of the water bodies in Chernarus. They are literally green with algae buildup, with either means there is a lot of nutrient runoff (probably from agricultural fertilizers) or the ponds/rivers are full of rotting vegetation. You don't want to drink that straight. -

IN real life, you NEVER want to drink straight from a water source, regardless of how clear it looks. Ever had Giardia? Boiling takes too long, and IMO, is a waste of resources. I carry a microfilter for all of my wilderness water needs, and a bottle of treatment tabs for backup. -
I am 99.999% certain that that is also a pattern of knife bayonet. It looks exactly like the "official" blade bayonet that really is permanently (usually) affixed under the barrel. Also, why have a blade (narrow cross section, thin edges) if it isn't a knife bayonet? http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/5/55/SKS_bayonet.JPG

So...you essentially admit to Ghosting? That is, log out when shot at, move to a better position, then attack and kill the now-essentially-clueless enemy? And you think this is a good and admirable way to play?! Shit, kids these days. Not an ounce of "honor" among them. At least live up to your death, make it worthy of song. Make them fight and bleed for your loot, not cheat at the game and talk trash on the Internet.
-
There is nothing wrong with retreating. There is something wrong with taking a shot at someone, missing, then logging when they turn to aim at you (happened to me a couple of days ago. Shouldn't have logged on top of the flat factory roof, pal. I threw your Mosin and LRS into the ocean. Hope you like swimming!)

What the Actual fuck is wrong with you? PS: Kilts are some of the bad-assingest garments in existence. PPS: What happened to the brony saying of "Love and Tolerance"? Jesus.

There is a lot of things wrong with combat-logging. My groups kills everyone that tries as punishment. Most of the time, we wouldn't have harmed them either, but they see someone alive and panic-log. It is hilarious.

Where as I could never side with the techno-autocrat House, nor subscribe to the institutionalized anarchy that was an Independent Vegas. The Legion was just too puppy-eatingly awful to support (seriously, every other faction was at least morally grey. The Legion was a throbbing black cancerous tumor) If you "play your cards right " (HAR HAR HAR) and get the best outcomes for many sidequests, siding with the NCR results in arguably the best outcomes for the Mojave Wasteland. The only ones who get fucked over are the Khans, and they are a bunch of meth'd-up bandits anyways, so I never really gave that much of a shit about them.

I think it is a pretty good idea, from the standpoint of survival. While you shouldn't remain in-game, I think it would be an interesting thing to "lay down and go to sleep" for at least a few minutes after you log out. It would be really safer than the current system, as what is more noticeable: the guy laying down in the debris-hut in the woods, or that guy doing the "log-out dance" on top of that building? (My clan has killed so many people doing this, even with the 30 second timer) IRL, during a real survival situation, literally the best thing for you to do almost all of the time (after building a shelter, then a fire) is sleep. There are many reasons for this; Everybody has what is called a "basal metabolic rate", which is the minimal number of calories your body needs in order to "run the machinery", as it were. Essentially, sitting still while warm and dry, you will burn X kCal per hour, and it varies per individual. If you sleep, you can get pretty close to your BMR, staving off starvation for a lot longer than you would walking around/working/fighting. Healing. Achieving REM-state-sleep essentially "jump-starts" the body's healing process. IRL, the best thing to do when injured (after treating the injury, of course) is sleep, as you will heal faster and more effectively that way. Maybe when you wake up after you sleep in-game, you start off "dark-green" energized, regardless of food or water levels? Pretty accurate representation, IMHO

Why? It just increases "artificial difficulty". Backpacks are very common IRL. Even if you can't find a purpose-made backpack, you can make a sack (AKA courier bag) out of a blanket, a sheet, or even a towel. Artificial difficulty is stupid, and detrimental to the game. Realistic difficulty (water-borne diseases, realistic medical system, stamina/weight [and get rid of that unlimited sprint!], etc), on the other hand, is great.

I am talking about "in general". In a realistic scenario, I wouldn't have to search for a kitchen knife.

Realistic Gunshots? + My little Show Off.

GLORIOUS -
Again, both axes in-game are not even sharp. You wouldn't be able to "take a chunk of meat" from the animal. You would be better off tearing off meat and skin with your bare hands, or using a shard of broken glass (sharpest edges in the universe, by the way). On a related note, why are kitchen knives so difficult to find? Seriously. How many people lived in South Zagoria again?
-
Wrong. An SKS bayonet is a "Knife bayonet". Also wrong. There are no axes in-game with actual "sharp" edges. The Splitting axe is a wedge, little more, and the Fire Axe has the incorrect blade profile. All you would do with either of those axes is smash the meat. I've skinned animals with a tomahawk before. It is a handaxe with a blade profile almost exactly the same as a knife ( AKA really damn narrow and thin), as it is first and foremost a hand-to-hand weapon. It was actually more effective than a knife, as I was able to skin, gut, quarter, and break the bones with a single tool. (Vs multiple skinning knives.) However, this thin blade profile means a tomahawk is very inefficient at splitting/cutting large amounts of wood. That is why I carry multiple tools on me IRL ( multitool, sheath knife, tomahawk, folding saw). IF you use a tool for something it isn't designed for, it is likely to break.

Cry more. Some of us want a game where it is actually difficult to do nothing but PvP.
-
Damn straight.

As an aside, they are fun as all hell, but like any "primitive" weapon, they require a LOT of practice to even become proficient with. In my experiences, and with regards to my environment (Temperate Deciduous Forest), a Bow is both more effective and more efficient. It takes a lot longer to make, and requires more know-how, but it is "easier" (everyone has at least an idea of how to fire a bow, even if they won't hit anything) to uses and more efficient in terms of ammunition ( I have 12 arrows I knapped the heads out of glass for. They fit into a side pocket on my BOB). As an aside to the aside; I really, REALLY dislike how the "improvised bow" in currently implemented in-game. I've touched on this before, but that is not how you make an actual bow. At all. Unless you are deliberately trying to not hit anything.

but I think the major "turn-off" of the B95 is the lack of any attachment and/or optic for it. Really? I've always found the Blaze to be more accurate than the Mosin. It probably has to do with the more accessible iron sights on the Blaze....
-
What do you mean "Better"? An AK or an SKS might have larger ammunition capacity, but I've got to search military bases for ammunition. I've picked up enough 7.62x54mm for weeks of play running through Novo once.
-
The Blaze right now is the most accurate weapon in the game, with pinpoint accuracy out to 300m (most firefights are within 50m to 200m), very little recoil, very user-friendly iron sights (what other firearm allows you to reliably fight at night?), as well as being capable of hitting like a goddamn truck. It is economical in ammunition, and with snaploaders and a steady hand, you can put twice as many shots downrange than with the Mosin. I've gotten far, FAR more kills with the Blaze than with literally any other weapon in the game. So long as you know what you are doing, it can be a very effective CQB weapon (fire two rounds at once, it is almost like a shotgun but with farther range), as well as being able to "reach out" to 500 meters reliably with a little practice. Using a Blaze 95 and a set of brass-cast balls, I've outsniped "snipers", as well as outshot "spray and pray" M4/AKM/AK101-wielding bad asses. It is far from being a "useless, inefficient gun"

I am assuming that is a map of player travel, because if that is supposed to be a map of air temperatures, someone on the Dev team needs to go back to school for geography. At night, cold air should settle into mountain valleys, due to "cold air sinks, hot air rises" (forget the technical term) The "warmest" place to be in the mountains at night would in fact be on the leeward side of a mountain, about halfway up. Cities will also remain pretty warm, due to retained heat in asphalt and concrete. Many cities actually maintain localized weather patterns due to this heat difference!

Was afraid to play since hearing about cold problems but then...

That is one guy, doing a limited series of tests in a controlled environment. AKA, next to useless conclusions IRL, if my wool shirt got wet, I would take it off, wring it out, and put on my spare. Or, more likely, put on my spare over the wet one, so my body heat will dry it off. Wool is still infinitely better than other natural fabrics, and can compete with many synthetics. ( MY preferred fabrics are wool and synthetic fleece. They compliment each other remarkably well) Anybody who leaves wet clothing on in the wilderness, wool or not, is an idiot and essentially deserves to die. -
Seriously? Make BLANKETS rare? That just screams "stupid arbitrary difficulty" to me. Do.... do you know how many people lived in Chernarus? How many blankets would that equal? Shit, "balancing" blankets would be literally the easiest thing imaginable, if that is what you are worried about. When you wear a blanket, you can't use your arms. Boom, done, balanced. Easily worth the warmth even a semi-decent blanket provides. Asides from my fire-building supplies, my sleeping kit is literally the most important part of my backpack. 2 milsurp wool blankets, a milsurp poncho w/liner, and additional disposable plastic-sheet ponchos. With those pieces of equipment, and a little know-how (piling up leaves into a 2 foot thick pile for insulation), I've slept for several days in sub-zero (F) degree weather.

As I recall, a lot of things (temperature, weather, etc) have been fucked up since the last hotfix. Maybe the food gauge is as well? 3 cans of food should be enough to last you a while. Did you have the "energized" bar on your status screen?
