Temperature effects are broken since hotfix

The Czech Republic is literally in the middle of Europe, AKA; landlocked as motherfucker. There is a difference between "Oceanic" (also called Maritime in some instances) and "Continental" climate patterns, with "Oceanic" localities being more moderate and wetter than "Continental" localities, which are drier, and have a greater extreme of temperatures in winter vs summer. Chernarus is affected by "Oceanic" weather patterns. The Czech Republic, being super-landlocked, is probably affected by a "Continental" climate. Just because the devs know about "cold", doesn't mean they know about the the right kind of cold. There is a significant difference between the two. Practically the whole of Chernarus should be under the effects of an Oceanic weather system, and as such, should exhibit moderated temperatures, in both winter and summer, as well as significantly more precipitation year round, than an area of comparable size that is completely landlocked. Sorry, Natural Science major.

Do you want pooping in this game?

Why? Why is the act of shitting yourself and ruining clothing so goddamned necessary? And, for that matter, enticing? I can happily say that I have never, EVER soiled myself out in the wild. And I've eaten some pretty nasty stuff. Do certain people on this forum have poor bowel control? I literally cannot think of a time when I would "ignore" the physiological need to relieve oneself. Either it is required, and stop and I do it, or it can wait, and I wait. There is never a " OH GOD I GOTTA POOP RIGHT NOW -IGNORE- AHHH SHIT EVERYWHERE" reaction. Even with diarrhea, you usually have, at the very least, a few minutes of stomach discomfort as forewarning. It doesn't "ambush" you": you will know you have diarrhea.
  3. I also want to know what the hell "loot tiers" are. What does that even mean? There is almost nothing in this game literally "better" than another", with the exception of clothing, and that is only because temperature and weather is fucked up beyond belief.
  4. But.....but.......GAH! It is starting to seem more and more like the Dev's want to make an "arcadey" game rather than a realistic one. For one, a chainsaw is a HORRIBLE weapon. They are heavy, loud, and require fuel and other maintenance. Also, have fun having the thing jam up after gutting somebody with it. The blood and chunks WILL foul up the works very very quickly, so have fun carrying around 20+ of USELESS. Plus, I can go to the shitty "totally not a money-laundering front" home and garden store at the end of my street and buy a small chainsaw for about $30." High tier piece of civilian loot"? What can a chainsaw do that an axe, a maul, or a saw do equally good, if not better considering logistical demands? Jesus Christ, I am actually rather mad.

    Zombie Classification

    1) They aren't "zombies". They are normal human beings infected with a disease ( my favorite is a mutated rabies virus) 2) this means slow, shambling "zombies" are right out 3) This also means they should be able to sprint, and do practically everything a "normal" human being can do, like climb ladders, open doors, etc. 4) This means, however, they should not be superhuman; no 1000 meter eagle eyes, superhuman hearing, or stupid degree of resilience.

Do you want pooping in this game?

People in Third World (God, do I hate that phrase. So outdated) countries shit, bathe, and drink all from the same water source because chances are they don't know any better. They may lack the necessary education (or resources, in the case of the massive refugee camps we see in the news) to connect germs (bathing and waste) + drinking water = sick. Chernarus isn't a Third World country. It has (well, had) electricity, running water, and indoor plumbing. One would think people from such a nation wouldn't start pooping in all the water sources just because they were there. And, note when people in TWC's defecate in the water, it isn't to intentionally make other's ill. On a similar note, why does everybody think that fecal material is a "good way" to contaminate water sources, anyway? If a survivor is any good (read: still alive), they won't drink straight from a scummy pond on the side of the road, much less if they can see a freaken turd floating about in it. Boiling the water for 5 minutes will literally kill anything biological (read: fecal microbacteria, like E.coli.) that will make you sick, and filtering with charcoal medium will remove the microscopic chemical contaminants. Boom, perfectly safe drinking water. I hold the belief (both in-game, when it gets implemented, and in real life) that if you don't have time to stop and treat enough drinking water, you don't need it that badly. Probably one of the first rules I beat into my wilderness survival students heads: Don't drink untreated water. You will last longer sitting under a tree doing nothing than if you drink from a contaminated source. Diarrhea/uncontrollable vomiting will kill you in hours from dehydration.
  10. Pretty much. By my estimates, it has been a week at most since society at large has "shit the bed". Buildings, roads, agricultural fields, all will still be relatively neat, especially since it is mid-Autumn in-game. This means that there will be little to no plant growth, at least until Spring.

Do you want pooping in this game?

Agreed. Even Neolithic farmers realized that "If I self-fertilize, I will get an intestinal parasite!"
  12. Sling Spear Actual shaped flatbow, not this "string attached to bendy stick" nonsense.
  13. That is because that isn't how you make a bow. Most "survival" bows are of the "flatbow"type, as it is the easiest to shape using hand tools, and can be shaped in a wider variety of woods, as the shape is much more forgiving regarding the forces involved. Flatbows require a decent amount of shaving (not carving. Carving the limb takes off too much too fast), so that the limbs are of equal length and bend equally. This process can not be rushed. It took me 6 hours of work to shape a flatbow (from seasoned wood, mind you), only to have it literally explode in my hands after tillering and testing the string-fit. Take my word for it: microscopic splinters in your cheeks, lips, and hands (thank God I was wearing safety glasses) are not fun. It felt like my skin was on fire for hours, and I itched for the next week or so....
  14. In all honesty, it probably wasn't a 60lb draw : P It was similar, but heavier, than my 45lb compound bow. SO......like 50lbs? And unfortunately, I no longer have any more handmade bows, nor did I actually think to take pictures : P. The birch flatbow started to develop fractures in the face above the grip, so I shelved it for safety's sake. The beech one I lent out, and never got it back. And I accidentally broke the oak one : (. I use a fiberglass flatbow for kicks, now.
  15. Ehh.... for a wooden recurve, not really. Longbows (granted, a very different "style" of bow), could have draw weights up to 120lbs, and historians have found some with 200lb draw weights! Granted, people trained all of their lives to use them, and English yeoman archer skeletons have literal bone mutations from the forces involved, but still....
  16. Agreed. They should, however, be capable of reaching out to 100 yards (not necessarily with any accuracy. but still). Have you seen the projectile arc in-game? Atrocious. And my main problem with the in-game bow is that it is barely useful within 10 meters, much less 30. IRL, I can hold my bow out without shaking like a meth-head going stale. You "aim, draw, release", not "draw, aim, release"

Gibonez, I must ask: do you actually have any survival training? Because, overwhelmingly, most "wilderness survival training" isn't truly about identifying plants and boiling water. It is about panic management. Yes, those shelter-building and land navigation skills are important, but they all tie into managing fear. It isn't the bad water or the rain that will kill you in the wild. It is the panic, the fear, that gets you in the end. PS: Finding food and water should be annoying in a survival situation? In Chernarus, a temperate deciduous forest? HAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Temperate deciduous forests are literally the second-most hospitable parts of the planet to human beings, after tropical forests. Water will be common, edible plant life will be common, easily-caught prey will be common (squirrels and rabbits are so easy to catch, with a little know-how, it is almost comical) Put me in the woods, and I will be able to immediately identify at least 10 different plants that have useful medicinal, construction, or gastronomical properties. Hell, let me list some plants/animals that we should be able to eat/use in some fashion, and can't because the devs haven't implemented their functionality. This, coupled with the currently-stupid temperature system, is literally the only reason survival is difficult right now: Oak: acorns, high in carbohydrates and protein, attract deer. Seasoned wood is very good firewood, giving off good heat/weight. Pine: resin can be eaten, used as antiseptic, can seal up wounds, can be used as a firestarter Birch: best "bang for your buck" firestarter I've used. Bark is high in oils, can burn even when wet, can be used in shelter or stuffed into clothing for insulation/waterproofing Fragmite reeds (grow in swamps/near streams): sap can be eaten: high in carbs, stems used for shelter Cat-Tail: Amazing food source. Almost all of this plant can be eaten Lily-pad: tuber is excellent source of starch, properly roasted Various lichens: can be eaten, used as tinder, antibiotic properties Various mosses: used as insulation Squirrels: everywhere, stupid as bricks. Rabbits: everywhere, stupid as bricks. Pigeons: everywhere in cities, stupid as bricks (some even come up to you, looking for food) Seagulls: everywhere along coasts, can be easily trapped with snare-lined garbage, or just pelted with rocks PPS: I do survival outings for kicks. It isn't that difficult.
  18. And most firefights with rifles take place within 50 meters. Therefore, the range and accuracy of firearms becomes moot. Plus, when you fire your rifle, EVERYONE will know where you are. Bows are effectively silent. Both platforms have advantages over the other. The bow wins when silence is needed, and in ambush situations. The rifle wins all other times. PS: I've made several bows before, in the range of 60-75lbs weights. They will kill you, and can put arrows within 3 inch groups at 30 yards (the glass-tipped-arrows punched through the target, as well). Get within 30 yards of me, and you will have an arrow in your chest before you can raise your rifle. Enjoy bleeding out!
  19. Gibonez, you do realize that a "kill-shot" is eminently possible using a bow, out to about 300 yards depending on the type of bow and the weight of the arrow? While I wouldn't use a bow over a decent rifle, the current in-game bow is by no means representative of what a real bow can do. PS: Plenty of people hunt using a bow and arrow in modern times. They aren't "outdated".

Do you want pooping in this game?

By all means, have the effects of defecation in-game, especially diarrhea from bad water, but for fucks sake, don't implement a "poop on command" action, or an animation, or anything of the sort. Why? We all know what will be the most likely and probably the first thing this aspect is used for: trolling other players. Shitting on other people while handcuffed, force-feeding, etc. Defecation can be perfectly represented via "off-screen" prompts, a fade to black, whatever. Make diarrhea a thing where you fall unconscious for several hours, then wake up with no hydration. You will learn to not drink untreated water then! But if there is an actual "spraying shit from my ass", I will leave. If I want to see that, I'll go drink from the drainage ditch outside my house. PS: and for all you people crying ' MUH REALIZM" , you do realize that when under long-term (what else would a SHTF zombie apocalypse BE, if not long-term stress?) stress, your body actively resists defecation and urination, right? While backpacking, I've literally gone a week without defecating.

Are these weather effects a bit too much?

That "menial" work is NECESSARY in a real-life survival situation. For a game that many players label as a "survival anti-game", there sure seems to be many people wanting to eliminate/lessen survival in order to facilitate PvP. Will it matter if rain makes you harder to spot, if you are dead from hypothermia after 30 minutes of travel. And, if your firearm is jammed due to neglect, you probably want to take care of that first, before searching for more gear....
  22. Whyherro123

Are these weather effects a bit too much?

In the future, there should be things implemented in order to occupy you during a rainstorm; actual weapon maintenance (disassembly, cleaning, reassembly, sighting, zeroing, sharpening, etc), ammunition reloading, clothing , clothing and gear maintenance, food preparation, cooking, sleeping, medical treatment, etc. All of these tasks can, and definitely should, take up at least an appreciable amount of time. This would both prompt the formation of survivor groups (division of labor and all that) as well as giving us something to do during inclement weather.
  23. Whyherro123

Are these weather effects a bit too much?

True that. Even if this were a realistic scenario, I would never, EVER go out into the rain. Only if I were being attacked. The risks FAR outweigh the benefits. This is pretty much true in-game as well. You will never need anything THAT BADLY that you need to risk hypothermia to get. IRL, you can get hypothermia even during a light drizzle, from the buildup of sweat due to rain-gear. Also, hypothermia is FAR more debilitating than it is currently in-game. Shivering, which progresses to the point where you can't use your limbs, confusion, aggression, poor-decision making skills, etc. Look it up. Someone with advanced hypothermia should not be able to take care of themselves ( I would know, I've had advanced hypothermia, and would've died if they didn't carry me out), which in-turn would prompt the formation of survivor-groups to help each other. Maybe feature paradoxical undressing?

    Goodbye Balota barracks

Underlined emphasis mine LOL NO. Modern smokeless gunpowder degrades rapidly over time, more if exposed to sunlight, heat, or water. The chemical compounds required to manufacture it come from all over the globe ( one of the many reasons why WW3 is a logistical impossibility in reality. The amount of ammunition and ordinance required to wage war on such a scale is only possible by buying it from other countries!), and it requires at least a modicum of chemistry knowledge to make a stable-enough compound. Plus, the brass casings (with the exception of few round types. like .45-70 Gov), can only be reused a couple of times until the casing gets too weak. And, where are you going to get the primers? You can only store so many. On the other hand, black powder requires only 3 ingredients; powdered charcoal, some sort of nitrate (usually potassium nitrate, also called saltpetre), and a sulfur, mixed in a 15%, 75%,10% mixture. The charcoal is self-explanatory, the nitrate can be found in fertilizer, urine-soaked straw, animal stalls, or scraped off of septic tank outlets. The sulfur is the only real tricky one.

    Goodbye Balota barracks

Diesel might still be good, depending upon oxygen and sunlight exposure. However, a diesel engine, with the proper filter installed, can run off of literally anything flammable. Ethanol is a popular one, and with a little agriculture, pretty commonplace.
