Realistically, if you weren't already adept at running/walking barefoot, wearing no shoes would quickly leave you crippled. In-game, all it does is damage you over time.
-
Wow, what the hell kind of terrain where you walking over? My Merrels have lasted...well...as long as I have had them. At least 7-8 years or so, and this was doing a good amount of hiking, backpacking, and trailrunning. Maybe because I switch out shoes, change insoles, and do said preventative maintenance, they have lasted longer? Regardless, I agree. Your feet are probably the most important part of your body to look after. If they are unhappy, you will be unhappy. If they are hurting, you will be in a lot of pain.

Back when I made the run, all the spawns were in the North East, AKA the EXACT OPPOSITE of where I wanted to go. I could've suicided, then ended up in Svetlo, Krasno, etc......then made the 20 minute run. Or, I could've made the run right away. Hopefully, the devs make it so you can spawn all over the map, so that people that suicide in order to make a 5 minute run go by faster, get screwed over and have to run for 10 minutes instead.

Ehhh, on a hike in the backcountry, I carry a spare pair of shoes (light ones, like trainers, boat shoes, or slippers) to wear around camp instead of my boots. I also get the dirt out of my boots, reglue the soles back on, waterproof/oil them, and buff them occasionally. I also let them air-dry instead of force-drying them by the fire, but that is more because they are leather and worth more than I am. Not that I am saying shoes should fall apart in a couple of minutes, but IRL, I totally change shoes (AND socks.ESPECIALLY socks) as often as I can. Crossing a stream? Take off boots, put on spares Walking along a road? Take off boots, put on spares (don't need the arch and ankle support on flat, hard ground) Stopping for more than 5 minutes? sit down, take off the shoes, change the socks, and stretch everything out. Granted, a lot of this is "preventative maintenance", but I've had the same pair of hiking boots and hiking "sneakers" for 12 years or so. Haven't failed me yet! (these aren't mine)
-
Ahhhh... people made shoes all the way back from the Paleolithic Era, AKA when we (Cro-Magnon AKA Homo Sapien Sapiens) was interacting (interbreeding with -cough cough-) Homo Neanderthalis http://archaeology.about.com/od/fterms/qt/footwear_histor.htm

Yep, I have no idea why the in-game map is torn into 4 pieces, nor do I have any clue how you reattach the pieces. If anything, it should spawn as one unit. And, AFAIK, it has town names in both English and Cyrillic. It is supposed to be a "tourist map" after all....
-
Sure. I remember back in January 2013, when you would find STACKS of freshspawn bodies under the fuel tank at Solnichny. They commited suicide in order to get some of that sweet Balota PvP action. So, sorry if I find in-game suicide to be highly suspect, and to have it say something about you. (Namely, that you would rather die in-game than sprint the 15-20 minutes from Solni to Balota.) But, go on being deep, you philosopher you.
-
I should reiterate: I did the Berezino-NWAF run about a month ago, back when you didn't die of hunger and cold before 10 minutes. And, I was running back to friends, as I had died via axe-applied-to-head. Remember, no matter how secluded you think you are, there IS someone there. We were out at Sinistok, before it was even on the map, or had a name.
-
I do realize this. Just adds some verisimilitude to a "survival game". In real life, I would choose a shotgun and a revolver over an assault rifle and an automatic. More reliable, dependable, etc. It all comes down to personal preference.
-
Just today, I came across 3 bodies in Cheranya Polana. You know, that town with plenty of good item spawns, Novo and Svetlo right down the road? Yet, they decided to kill themselves for another spin of the lottery spawn. I don't get it. What is a "better spawn"? Closer to friends? I ran from Berezino to the town NW of the NWAF in 20 minutes. Closer to Military Bases? Whatever, I (personally) don't care. Some people might, however. Anything "better" in this game is entirely arbitrary.
-
People who suicide to get "better" spawns are hilariously bad at the game, and should feel bad. IMHO.

EXACTLY! Finally, someone who understands! There is literally ZERO benefit to playing at night. If I were by myself in a "real Day Z" scenario, I would feel perfectly safe sleeping at night. Wondering why? The age-old adage: it is easier for 1 person to find 10, than for 10 to find 1. I would be in a relatively inaccessible place (attic, loft, tree [i've slept in a tree before. Not bad with a hammock, and hammocks are easy to improvise]), and when I heard the aforementioned bandits (probably with flashlights of their own, natch), or zombies crashing through the woods, I would 1) wait until they leave and 2) at first light, haul my ass out of there. Why the hell would the bandits be looking for one person, anyways? Don't they have other, more important targets to abuse and murder?

We should be able to eventually break down weapons, but not for space: for cleaning. In real life, if you don't disassemble your firearm, clean it, and lubricate certain parts, it will (over time) have higher propensity to jam, failure to feed, etc. This should take an "appreciable" (long enough so you appreciate the outcome, not long enough where people would willingly skip it in favor of jams and malfunctions). Those who don't want to maintain their gear in favor of "pew pew die die" PvP action could suffer from jams and other malfunctions. Imagine mag-dumping that AKM, only to have it jam mid-burst! Priceless! Those weapons with a minimum of moving parts ( AKA the revolver, the repeater, the shotguns [pump and break open], and the break open rifle) would have the least propensity to jam/malfunction. This could lead to the playerbase leaving behind automatic "top tier" (pshhhh HAHAHAHA I LOVE that term!) in favor of easier to maintain firearms. Plus, it would give an actual use for all the "Firearm Repair Kits" laying about. Realism = Awesome

And that, in my opinion, is what is wrong with the current playerbase. No goals for the future, besides "loot and shoot". I propose adding to the game, letting it develop naturally over time, and I get effectively told that my ideas are "what not to do". Would you rather die a meaningless death, or die for "something"? You can have clan PvP battles in Berezino, or you could instead have skirmishes over that ammunition factory that, when you take control of it, you can make TONS of profit off of. What sounds more realistic? What sounds more fun? Thanks, mate, your opinion was valuable. /sarcasm -

Then become a bandit, and rob that farm. Knock over that trader caravan, and sell the goods for yourself. Or, take over that factory, smash the machines, and watch prices skyrocket. Then, sell the stock yourself and make a tidy profit. And, you don't have to be good with authority, when the "authority asking you to find an AKM" will pay you in one of your own, as well as magazines and ammunition for it, when you return. And, get this, you don't have to accept the job if you don't want to. They make a job posting (good use for the notes in-game), and interested parties apply. I made the point about freshspawns working because it is inherently realistic. Most of the population post-apocalypse would be involved with food production, with fewer (but still a signifigant amount), involved in industry. Only a few people would be able to afford to fight 24/7. The freshspawn could get a job doing X, then save up enough to afford a firearm and some ammo, then join a caravan/become a bandit/enlist as a soldier. -
There might be toilets in them, we don't know because we can only access about half the rooms in any given house.

How is Chernarus poor, exactly? They look to have the same infrastructure and amenities that rural/semi-rural areas around me (AKA the megalopolis in New England) have, and we aren't exactly poor. Hell, Chernarus appears to have better roads than we do..... : (

Uh, yes? That is what I would eventually like. It is both realistic, and would add atmosphere to the game. Server starts out full of loot. As people pick it up/use it, it doesn't respawn, with the exception of fruits, vegetables, and animals (AKA agriculture/animal husbandry). This would drive people to use improvised weapons with retrievable/craft-able ammunition (bow/crossbow), melee weapons, and be VERY conserving with firearm ammunition. If you find the materials, you can make new ammunition, and maybe even actual firearms and clothing (those "lathe" buildings would be great!). This would cause groups to form up, both in the form of industry ( food plantations, industrial centers, trading caravans, etc), and in bandits that attack those centers (Bandits knock over a caravan for supplies, attack and hold a plantation and start collecting slaves, etc) This would: 1) Lessen KoS, or at least, give a reason for organized PvP. Now your clan isn't just "fighting to fight", you are "fighting to keep control of your ammunition factory, that brings you in massive profits from trading", or "fighting to defend your farm, that keeps half of Chernarus from clothed and fed", or "fighting to defend your alcohol still, that provides fuel for almost all the vehicles in Chernarus" 2) Add "flavor". Now you aren't just roaming Chernarus aimlessly, searching for a LRS. Now, you are searching for a pristine AKM, so that the factory that sponsored you can copy the pattern (and is paying you very well for your troubles). 3) give newspawns a fighting chance. Now, if they spawn into a high-pop server, they have little chance if they spawn on and remain on the coast. In my plan, they can run to the nearest settlement and ask for work. 4) Add to roleplaying. Instead of fighting off random bandit clans, now you "are an enlisted soldier of the Berezino Federation, fighting to keep trade routes clear of bandit scum", or a "caravan guard, defending their employer for blood and profit" Plus numerous other reasons. -

Oranges, Kiki, and Bananas shouldn't even be in the game, as they are all tropical/semi-tropical fruits. How exactly did they get to Chernarus if there is no international trade? Also, where did you think those apples, zucchini and berries came from? That grocery store that stayed open during the Apocalypse? No, somebody grew them. I have no idea how the devs plan on implementing agriculture, but, no, I don't expect crops to take weeks/months of real-life time to grow. That would be asinine, and detrimental to the game and experience. I do expect, however, that a random starting survivor will have little to no chance to grow food on their own, and would have to rely on foraging/scavenging, at least until they join as group. Pre-Industrial Agriculture is difficult. No machines to break up the ground (although I would expect them to made eventually), no "artificial" (which is how modern farms get such HUMONGOUS yields) fertilizers, and we (read: most modern people) have little experience with agriculture. The only ones who could feasibly make agriculture other than subsistence farming work is large, organized groups, with division of labor. -

Splitting axes getting damaged when cutting down trees is actually justified. You don't use a splitting axe to down a tree, you use a felling axe (or, if you are smart, a saw). They have different blade profiles, and usually, handle construction. Use the right tool for the job, kids! Things are easier and more efficient that way.... -

YESSSSSSSSSSSSS Although, technically, there are plenty of plants that provide vitamin C. Like Pine needles, dandelions, etc. -

Yes. You can eat all the canned beans in the world, but your teeth will fall out due to nutrient deficiencies. Having agriculture would allow you to meet nutritional demands. -

Bullets don't "throw people back", or "across a room". They cause the same kickback to a body that the shooter feels in the form of recoil. If you get shot in the gut with a 7.62mm round, you won't spin around and drop back. It'll just blow your insides out your outsides : P http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/BlownAcrossTheRoom Check "Real Life". It summarizes it pretty well. Yes, it is an "entertainment website", but you can look up the actual principles if you so wish. -

I don't want arbitrarily-"Hardcore" gameplay, I want "REALISTIC" gameplay. There is a difference.
