Anyone else enjoy the fear in Dayz?

Fear is subjective. I actually find the current Chernarus quite frightening, if only for the fact that humanity is on its apparent last legs. Think about it: 225 square kilometers of towns, roads, farms and forests, and there are, what? 50 survivors currently? From a post-TSC population of 100,000 (or probably more)? Listen to the silence in the once bustling cities. Think about the infected. We don't really care, because to us it is just a game, but think about it from your characters POV: your neighbors, friends and family, all people who you loved, spent time with, waved to in the street, now are doing their very best to kill you. Look up "horror" vs "terror". I am a fan of terror, and in my opinion, with a little observation and pondering the implications of the world, Day Z NAILED terror. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Horror_and_terror

Zero loot in many servers, what happened?

Weird, how I play ONLY on persistence-enabled servers, yet I am finding MORE than enough loot. Maybe you just pick bugged servers?

    Killed a combat logger...

Even if the devs implement something that promotes server-hopping (which, from what I've read, wasn't the current devs. It was Rocket.), does it really count if there will only be 10-20 vehicles per server? http://www.reddit.com/r/dayz/comments/2iax7g/hicks_opinion_no_more_than_10_vehicles_on_an/ At that rate, the chances of you finding a vehicle and having to hop for parts is very low, basically statistically irrelevant.

    Killed a combat logger...

Are you attempting to justify combat-logging and server-hopping as a "let people do what they want!" libertarian fantasy? HAHAHAHA Those playstyles are detrimental to the game, and are pretty much why we have a respawn timer and "log-out dance". They should, no, NEED, to be stopped.

    Killed a combat logger...

The fact that he was fully kitted out with military gear, on a nightime (read: empty/low population 99% of the time) server, right next to a high-value loot location, just SCREAMS server-hopper. And I've seen pretty-kitted-out guys log to avoid their stuff getting damaged in combat. Did I see it a lot? No, but I saw it.
  6. See, everyone? This is why we can't have nice things. I am not even going to try to explain just how wrong you are. All you will do is justify your incorrect, game-damaging playstyle.

    Killed a combat logger...

That is adorable. He encounters the guy logging out next to high-value loot location, fully kitted out. If he isn't combat logging to protect himself, he is probably server-hopping. (the police station is only 30 seconds away, and only idiots server-hop inside a high-traffic location) Get off your high horse, and realize that the only way to stop players from validating their incorrect playstyles is to punish them. In-game, the only real punishment is death, and the associated loss of gear. Server-hopping, combat-logging, and ghosters all deserve to die, over and over again.

    I have a dream...

This game has so much more potential than being just another PvP-filled fuckfest. Thankfully, the devs keep adding things that promote cooperation.
  9. You don't, you server-hopping jackwagon. Do you honestly think that you are the only server-hopping asshole to look for automatic rifles in barracks? Literally EVERY mouthbreather with too much free time and too few braincells server-hops military locations for "top-tier" (snort) equipment. Bad player is bad

    Calling fellow gardeners...

All we need now is corn, beans, potatoes and spinach and we can literally be self-sufficient!
  11. Eh, bullets would make a horrible currency. Yes, they are valuable, but for different reasons than a fiat currency. The sheer difference in calibers and uses, for one. Let us say that your clan uses 7.62x39mm as a base "dollar". If someone has a rifle that isn't chambered in that caliber, you have fuck-all to give to them in terms of trade. Plus the fact that when they actually use the bullets, they 1) are literally burning "money" and 2) If you try to make more bullets to use up the ones you shoot, then you run into the same problems with governments when they just "print more money". I am not an economist either, so take what I am saying with a grain of salt. All of my knowledge comes from reading books of the subject, and my comprehension of the more complex facets is more than a little hazy.

    travel more.

Dolina is my favorite town, but Severograd is rapidly becoming #2.
  13. I take umbrage with the "currency nonsense" statement. Realistically, you would be able to trade for equipment ( organized trade would be one of the first "civilized things" to come back, actually, after communal farming and organized militias), and actually "commodities" (aka hard alcohol, cloth, certain amounts of food, etc), would become the new standard over paper currency. There is nothing wrong with trading for supplies. What I didn't like about Epoch's system was 1) NPCs, 2) absurdly low prices for goods 3) no fluctuating prices based on supply-and-demand 4) precious metals as the medium of exchange 1) All industries (farming, industries, trade, etc) should be player-driven. That AK should be made by a player in a factory, then carried by a trader player, and exchanged to another player for some moonshine and a couple bushels of corn. NO NPCS 2) I never played Epoch, but from what I saw in videos, you could buy things like rifles, ammunition, and gear for a few ounces of gold. WTF. The demand for survival gear should be through the roof! 3) If I found a bunch of 7.62x39mm ammunition, and traded it for food, I would expect a diminished return over time, as there are now "more 7.62x39mm bullets" available, and thusly each one is less valuable.....unless there is a high demand for that cartridge. yadda yadda yadda basic economics bullshit 4) gold and silver are valuable because we think they are (pretty, rare, "expensive" (because some company says it is), etc). You can't eat gold, can't burn it for warmth, and can't defend your family with it. The only reason precious metals formed (past tense important, because most Western currencies are no longer actually back by anything) the worth of money is because they were backed by the local government. After the TSC, new local governments could (would) choose new bases of currency, and would be worth more or less based on economy, purity, usefulness, etc. Which is why hard alcohol is widely estimated to become the new medium of exchange after a TSC event.... .....ah, word vomit. Sorry.

    Ruining the christmas

---sigh--- Point out to me any place on the planet where human beings live without laws, and I will call you a liar. Look up a little concept called a "social contract". It is a little vague, but ultimately, it applies to human interaction all the way down to the family level. All areas of human interaction are governed by rules we make up. "True" anarchy is a literal impossibility, and has never once existed in the entirety of human existence. Day Z in NO WAY is realistic, ESPECIALLY with regards to human-human interactions in a disaster situation. See, in real life, you don't respawn, and tend to care just a little bit about dying. Most people want to avoid death, and band together in order to work to avoid that fate. The current "lawless" state in Day Z exists because 1) it is a game, and (relatedly) 2) there are no consequences to acting like a total pants-on-head gigantic throbbing cockhole to everyone you meet. In real life, murdering random people would have consequences, EVEN in a post-apocalyptic society. Bandit clans would be hunted down and exterminated like the vermin they are in short order by organized militias.

    Ruining the christmas

-Ahem- http://www.cracked.com/article_21251_5-things-every-movie-gets-wrong-about-apocalypse.html http://www.cracked.com/article_21928_4-things-the-walking-dead-gets-wrong-about-apocalypse.html It is called "altruism", and it, and its derivatives "empathy" and "teamwork", are pretty much the sole reason we are no longer being eaten by proto-lions in the Paleolithic African savanna.
  16. That is adorable. I, well, I just don't believe you. Simple as that.
  17. Way to exaggerate, mate.
  18. Whyherro123

    Why am I so bad?

As it should be. The "lone wolf" playstyle SHOULD be the most difficult, simply because you have no support. Wilderness survival, as with literally everything else in life, is far FAR easier when done in groups. In a group, you have division of labor (saving everyones time and energy), specialization of tasks, and the ability to watch each others backs. By yourself, you have none of this, just what you know and what you carry. Again, "lone wolf"-ing it should be the hardest playstyle, and most players should be playing in groups. Unfortunately, the game has not yet reached the level where group play is required.

    A new breed of bandits

    1) walking away when someone is pointing a gun at you is an excellent way to get a bullet in the back. 2) If someone tries to kill you, killing them back is all fine and dandy. It's called "self defense". 3) shooting unprovoked at other people generally means that you, not they, are the "bad guy".
  20. THIS You cannot find AKs, or other military loot, for that matter, because literally ALL the server hoppers have the exact same thoughts as you. "But.....but....what about PvP? How am I going to be competitive?" you say? TACTICS.

    Most versatile weapon combination?

I just can't wait until bayonet functionality is implemented, and they include a bayonet lug for the MP-133, al la Winchester Mod 1897.

    A new breed of bandits

I was in Novo, and I came across a guy on the "west hill", the one with the apartments. I was turning around, so I couldn't get a good look at him, but he was saying similar stuff while I was turning around ( I am friendly, you friendly, etc etc). As soon as I was finished turning, I saw he had a Mosin already raised, so I lifted my IZH and fired. We tagged each other, and I ran off to bandage. Freaken kids man. No-one is a gentleman anymore. If you are going to be a bandit, own your assholish ways!

    Becoming waterproof?

As it works in real life, as it should work in Day Z. Sweating due to being too heavily clothed, as well as wearing impermeable clothing (rainjackets, etc), is caused by overheating, but that isn't the problem. You are actually far more likely to develop hypothermia due to it, rather than due to rain or cold.
  24. Whyherro123

    How the North has Changed

Which is why you go to the wilderness area I mentioned above; a giant square from Koslovka to Tulga, and Black Forest to Pusta. A giant area about 1/3 of the map, and in a week and a half, I have yet to see a single player. The rest of the map is either river valley or grassland plateau, areas that, if they weren't settled, I would take umbrage with the map designers. Those types of terrain are prime real estate for farming, animal husbandry, and industry. Look for my rationale for the settling of the west and north above. The map devs aren't just doing it arbitrarily; the development actually makes sense based on human settlement.
  25. Whyherro123

    Becoming waterproof?

Nothing is 100% waterproof. NOTHING. If you seal yourself up so that your clothing is impermeable to "outside" water, you will soon become soaked with "inside" water, ie. your sweat. And, I would rather be wet with rain than with sweat. You don't become dehydrated due to rain. munchkins ahoy!
