    Rarest Loot (Experienced Looters)

Pretty much. The amount of rampant munchkin-fueling going on in this thread is sickening. Not horribly, but enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth. People who depend on gear, and who actually think it gives them an edge in combat, are hilarious.

    Supernatural horror that stalks you

    1) That...was the point I was trying to make. That building, and probably the ones around it, should be gone, or at the very least, severely damaged. 2) It might be dry enough, being Autumn and all (which means a lot of dead, dry leaves, twigs, etc...called "ground fuel".), but the terrain and vegetation type doesn't really suggest (to me) a preponderance for wildfires. For natural wildfires, they usually happen in "Chapparal" or "Pine Barren" type woodlands, which, unsurprisingly, make up a large portion of California and Arizona, some of the most "wildfire-y" states you see on the news.

    Supernatural horror that stalks you

    1) Again, your opinion. And I am sure you know the phrase about opinions and assholes: Everyone has one. Yours is no more valid than mine, nor mine yours. People like, and want, different things. 2) I doubt you quite understand just how how hot jet fuel burns. Look at 9/11, there should be little to no building left, much less bodies strewn about.

    Supernatural horror that stalks you

You forgot to add "in my opinion" at the end, there. In my opinion, "mind fucks" are scary, and "physcial scares" are childish and crude. I find the current Day Z plenty frightening on its own, without jump scares, overt gore, and the like. terror vs horror and all that.

    Supernatural horror that stalks you

I agree, so so SO much. Whatever happened to the little moans, gasps, and phrases your avatar would make when injured earlier in the alpha? Those were pretty awesome, and some more in-depth screams, breathing, and groans would be even better.

    Fast Travel

Considering how you can pretty much run across the entire map within half an hour, no, there really isn't a need for fast travel. Yesterday, I ran from Nizhnoye, on the east coast, to Veresnik, by the western side of the map, in 10-12 minutes. If it takes you hours to link up, learn the map better.

    Appearances can be deceiving.

Ohhh, rags! You mean those things that can be made from literally any shirt or sweatshirt? AWESOME /snark It is pretty simple: cover your face, and others are less likely to trust you. It is a result of human psychology; removing the face from view serves to "dehumanize" you, which is why "bad guys" tend to obscure their faces via masks or helmets in movies. Doesn't matter if it is a bandanna, or one of the stupid needs-to-be-removed PAYDAY masks, if I see you with one, you are going to die if at all possible. And, in Day Z its current state, you can pretty safely "judge a book by its cover".

    Weapon and ammo rarity

This is NOT a PvE/PvP game. This is a survival game. Learn to differentiate. Artificial balancing in favor of a specific play style is detrimental to the game as a whole. Suchly, loot should spawn as it would in real life; bolt action rifles and shotguns, then handguns, then automatic rifles. And, so what if it is a disadvantage? A handgun vs a rifle or a shotgun in real life would lose 99% of the time. Also, what the hell is a "skill/loot curve"? How does it "devalue prolonged survival"? No, I am willing to bet firearm owners own more rifles and shotguns than they do handguns. Also, where the hell do you live where handguns are cheaper than rifles or shotguns? In my state, both the licenses necessary to own a rifle/shotgun as well as the actual firearms themselves are cheaper and easier (less hassle, faster) than the licenses to own a handgun. Most of my hunter friends do not own a handgun, due to the cost, necessary training, etc, of going for a Handgun LTC. I am willing to bet that most of the rural population of South Zagoria did not own a handgun, and instead owned a shotgun and/or a rifle. Handguns would be much more common in urban areas.
  9. Whyherro123

    Weapon and ammo rarity

No, rifles and shotguns should be first. Handguns are a luxury, and unnecessary for survival. Shotguns and rifles are far, FAR, FAR more useful.

    Appearances can be deceiving.

Exactly. Masks offer no benefit, and make you look like a punk. Nobody in my clan wears masks, and I assume if you are wearing one, you either are a bambi, or a bandit.

    When was the oubreak?

Eh. With the exception of the rusted hulks of vehicles, I think it has been less than 2 weeks. Look at the garden plots and farms: pumpkins and other crops are ready to harvest, and wheat is still "drummed" up in bundles, ready to be picked up. If it has been months, then I would expect the gardens to be either/or rotted and growing out of control, and the farmed grain to be rotted.

9mm, .45 ACP and 7.62x39mm are military... why?

The physical geography of South Zagoria was based on the physical geography of a specific river valley of the Czech Republic. The people, culture, government, and firearm policies were IN NO WAY based on the CR

    Weapon and ammo rarity

What do you mean, "all this time"? We've never got any official timeline. In fact, evidence supports the idea that is has only been a week or two since SHTF. Of course, there is also evidence that it has been months/years....
  14. Whyherro123

    Weapon and ammo rarity

Eh, with the exception of bayonets and buttstock strikes, a firearm with no ammunition is essentially useless. It would lead to more hold-ups and robberies, as you could never know if that gun is loaded or not, and make players conserve ammo, make every shot count, and use alternate weapons like the bow, crossbow, and (hopefully) a sling.
  15. Whyherro123

    Weapon and ammo rarity

I agree. Almost all ammunition, with the exception of .22LR, 12 gauge shot shells, and maybe 7.62x54mm rounds, should be rare as tits on a bull. I have no problem with there being a decent amount of firearms, just make ammunition rare.

Too many guns or just silly spawning

    1) Better loot balancing will come, in BETA, like Hicks said above and elsewhere. 2) As for not finding an M4/AK every time you go to a military base, GOOD. Learn to use the bow, shotgun, and Blaze. Cast off your crutches.
  17. Whyherro123

    Bows

No, throwing knives were almost never actually used as weapons, due to the fact that they are REALLY hard to use, and people tend to scream when they get stabbed. Give me a sling. Easy to make, easy to find make ammunition, VERY deadly. Not so easy to use, just like bows.

9mm, .45 ACP and 7.62x39mm are military... why?

    1) Chernarus is not the Czech Republic. Get that out of your head. South Zagoria is VERY rural. 2) Handgun magazines are more rare because fewer people owned them before the zombie apocalypse (due to them being not as useful as rifles/shotguns), and because they required more maintenance. You cannot leave ammunition in a spring-loaded magazine forever, the springs will wear out (I think a week is tops, but don't quote me) and you will suffer FTF (failure to feed). 3) Weird, I don't need a handgun to survive in Day Z. I can get by just fine with a bow. Seems like "you" need a handgun to survive.
  20. Whyherro123

9mm, .45 ACP and 7.62x39mm are military... why?

This is regarding your "handguns for self-defense" idea. Not really. South Zagoria, the region of Chernarus we play in, is not very urbanized. Most of the population lives in rural/semirural areas. A rifle is FAR more useful than a handgun in that situation; hunting, defending livestock, etc. You would be more likely to find a rifle or a shotgun for that reason.

    Ruining the christmas

For the nigh-constant and all-encompassing tribal warfare that exists in many of the regions you mentioned, look up "endemic warfare". Not all that destructive or deadly, all things considered, and religious/sectarian disagreements cover the rest of the rationale behind the troubles of the region. Also, the 20th and 21st centuries, with the exceptions of WW1 and WW2, we are living in literally the most peaceful, most tolerant, and most cooperative era of human history. http://www.quora.com/What-was-the-most-peaceful-time-in-human-history http://www.wsj.com/news/articles/SB10001424053111904106704576583203589408180?mg=reno64-wsj&url=http%3A%2F%2Fonline.wsj.com%2Farticle%2FSB10001424053111904106704576583203589408180.html As for Hurricane Sandy, we (actually living with the aftermath) sure as hell didn't give a shit about the celebrities and politicians thumping their chests and showboating themselves. My family, and hell, my city, didn't receive any spotlight. We cleaned the streets ourselves. And, does it really matter how much media attention it got? A disaster is a disaster is a disaster. "killed those of us who weren't violent as well because if we -could- kill them and take their stuff, we totally would." Really? I wouldn't. And, during the Neolithic, there were intercontinental trade routes, organized craftsmen, and defense/trade/support agreements between many tribes. (examine the Iroquois Confederacy, which served as a basis for the US Constitution) Different from the killfrenzy-esqe scenario you mention. And, the hunting aspect you mention? Often highly ritualized, including "apologizing" to the killed animal, thanking it for giving it's life. Humans are (debatable, but to current thinking, true) the only animal on the planet to feel and exhibit empathy, both for our own species and for other animals as well. Where exactly did I attack you as a person? All I did was ask for your qualifications, because you didn't exactly provide any. A "classic education" can be any degree, which I also have. I backed up my posts with both articles and, linked in the articles, data and research. You did not. I wanted to examine the context behind your points, via your education.
  22. Whyherro123

    Ruining the christmas

I disagree with almost 100% of your points. People are assholes in-game because there are no repercussions (I barely count death as a repercussion, as you can gear up so fast it is almost a chore), whereas real life has repercussions to being a cockhole. What sort of training or education do you have to refute those points I brought up? A Psychology 101 course doesn't count. Did you actually read the links referred to in the article? A majority of them were from actual sociological and psychological studies, with the findings being extrapolated from actual peer-reviewed journals. Such topics may be considered "soft science", but they are still legit. A real-world example: Hurricane Sandy a couple of years back. Here in southern New England, a majority of places lost power for a while, and with that, the accompanying heat, refrigeration, and lighting. There was little "official" response, and we pretty much had to live on our own for a couple of days. There was little to no crime (or an increase, anyways). People with power cooked mass amounts of food, boiled water, and let others charge their phones. Some guys from my neighborhood went around with a pickup truck stuffed to the gills with gasoline and some generators, so people could run the heater for at least a little while. Neighbors helped each other with broken windows (plywood is a gift from God!), and with bailing out cellars when they flooded. There was one reported break in, where some guys broke into an old ladys house, in order to make sure she was ok. The whole community banded together for the couple of days until we got power back. I hold the opinion that what you think the apocalypse would be like, and how people would behave, says a lot about you as a person. Believe that people would become frothing animals of rape and murder when the lights go out? You are probably a pessimist, and might just join in that behavior. Think people would band together and help each other out? Probably an optimist, and probably would do the same. Note that just because I believe that people would band together and help each other out, doesn't mean I think the TSC would mean everyone would hold hands and sign KUMBAYA. Humans are tribal by nature. We would help the members of our own group, and distrust (until they prove themselves) at best the members of other groups.

Too many guns or just silly spawning

I think you people are forgetting that we were not the only ones to loot the area. Not everyone that lived in Chernarus was infected, it is a statistical improbability. In fact, it is far more likely that a significant proportion of the civilian population survived, and either looted up and killed each other, or looted up and got the hell out of Dodge. The bases were not "untouched" before we got there.

    Calling fellow gardeners...

Exactly. Tomatoes are not a staple food for a reason. I like how we can use "leftover" plant material as fertilizer (Is that implemented yet?), but I would like to see a more "natural" version: fish. The plot is 3x3, enough for 5 mounds of corn and beans and 4 mound of pumpkins. The Native Americans would bury fish within the mounds before planting, to fertilize the soil on top of what the beans would add. So, we could use fish traps to catch fish, or, hopefully, make a net (or just use netting) to catch fish en masse. http://www.reneesgarden.com/articles/3sisters.html A very effective system, relative to other organic (without petroleum-based fertilizers, which 99.99% of "modern" fertilizer is, including the in-game DRAKON. Hopefully, DRAKON will become more rare, and we will have to use other methods) methods of agriculture. The corn provides support for the beans and various vitamins, the beans provide protein while nitrogenizing the soil, and the pumpkins protect the plot from insects, and provides carbs and Vitamin A. Add some potatoes as a starchy base, and you have a diet that covers all nutritional dependencies.

    Clarification on "Base Building"

You ever see those wooden sheds, the ones with the single door and the window? I hope we can build something like that. The square ones could fit a single cot, a woodstove, and some shelving/storage space, while the long ones could hold maybe 4 bunks (double stacked) a woodstove, and some storage. Square long
