    Character Development & Weaknesses

And in real life, those people that are unfit, whether physically, mentally, or health-wise, would VERY likely be the first to die. Sad, but true. Hell, they probably are already dead in-game. Take a look at the "zombies" we have in-game. Notice how they are all relatively-physically-fit "adult" men and women? No fat infected, elderly infected (except for that one "old guy zombie" that was posted on this forum a while back, but nothing has been said about him since), children infected, disabled infected. Guess what? They all died in the inital outbreak. Either they died from the infection itself (in real life, generally the people most likely to die from illness are children and the elderly), or were killed by the infected. Children tend to be weaker than adults, just like the elderly, and "generally" (and I mean no disrespect here) disabled people tend to be less physically able than the non-disabled. Therefore, when their neighbors and family members "reanimated" (for lack of a better term, as the "zombies" in-game are actually still alive), all the kids, elderly, and less-able (disabled, fat, mentally ill, etc) members of society were all killed.

And I agree. My quoting of you was actually aimed at the OP.

    Character Development & Weaknesses

Considering how insulin degrades very fast without refrigeration, and has to be synthesized from animals (probably pigs), yeah, you would die in a real life apocalyptic situation. It isn't fair, but it doesn't have to be. The conditions available in modern society has allowed people that wouldn't ordinarily survive (genetic diseases, allergies, chronic diseases, etc) live and pass on their genes. I agree, btw.

    Does DayZ need aeiral transport?

Considering that WW1-era fighters essentially were "cropdusters mounted with .50 cals".....I see no problem with that. Edit: they also carried hand-held bombs. As in, bombs dropped by hand via the pilot or co-pilot. That would be spectacularly awesome.

    Does DayZ need aeiral transport?

I do believe I read a tweet from one of the developers somewhere that he is planning on there "only being 10-20 vehicles on an entire server". The PLETHORA of vehicles available right now is due to testing, or something like that. Point being: don't expect there to be a shit-ton of vehicles. Everyone will have "access" to them, in the sense that if they find one, AND all the parts, WHILE defending it from others, they can drive it. Not everyone will have a vehicle. There is a pretty significant difference. EDIT: I DO agree with your points. I re-read my post and it sounded like I didn't. Just to clarify.

    Remove books and other ideas

    1) If you are in a town where all you can find is books, that means EVERYONE ELSE has got there before you, and took everything good. GO INLAND 2) In a survival situation, which Day Z is, your metabolic needs are accelerated. This means you often need more food, water, and sleep. 3) Sooo....put the Jerry Can down to open the car trunk? Problem solved. 4) Cry more. Some devs have stated that there could be a maximum of 10 vehicles per server. Get used to running, or look for a bike when they get implemented.

    Don't spawn magazines with ammo

Uh, you? Considering how I quoted you and all, figuring that out should not be rocket science. You don't need more bullets to deal with a higher number of infected, you actually need to use that wet noodle between your ears. And, considering how you can watch friends games in-progress with the Steam streaming-feature (I forget what it is called), it is entirely possible that I could watch you play. If we were friends, of course.

    Question about Zombies...

They aren't "zombies" in the classical, "undead risen from their graves hungering for human flesh" sense. They aren't chasing you in order to eat you, at least, that isn't what they intend. Instead, they are just people infected (in some parts of the Internet, somewhere official, I remember reading the Day Z 'infection" as being a prion disease, which is to say, not a "disease" at all, merely misfolded proteins) with some disease that destroys higher brain functions, essentially. They lose all parts of "them that make them, them", essentially (memory, personality, skills, ability to communicate, etc), and leaves them with just animalistic instincts. They see something, they want to chase it down and kill it (note: living, perfectly-fine humans also have this instinct. It is something common to all predators) The eating (if there is any in the Standalone. I certainly have never seen any.) is just incidental to them chasing you down and beating you to death. "Bleeding" due to getting punched and slapped is just the engine's REALLY shitty way of saying "you are getting damaged". If I had my way, the medical system would be complex, and "bludgeoning/bruising" (read: punching, hammers, clubs, etc) damage is different from "slashing" damage (read: getting bitten, knives, spears, arrows, etc)

    Don't spawn magazines with ammo

Then you either run away from the infected, or avoid them entirely. Not the game's fault if you decided to go derp through Elektro (and its 200 infected) without proper planning or equipment

    improvised silencer repair with tape

It has already been stated that the bottle will explode due to the forces of and the amount of gases released during a bullet firing. There will be little pieces of plastic scattered all over a 10m circle. If you want to waste half a roll of duct tape and 3 hours of your life to make a shitty "silencer" that wouldn't work in real life, be my guest.

    Water Landforms, Systems, and Health

If you actually look at a topographical map of Chernarus, there are A LOT of rivers. http://www.izurvive.com/#c=-46;1;2 They just don't show up because the engine sucks for that sort of stuff.

    Heavy Armor

But...why would you wear it? None of the weapons in Metro 2033 were 7.62x39mm. The shotguns used 12G buckshot, which is notably bad at penetrating armor, and the rifles used 5.45x39mm, reloaded with shittier lower-grade powder (which is why the "dirty" rounds in-game suck so much compared to the MGR). The suits are hot, heavy, and really useless at defending against anything more powerful than 5.56mm. Will a 7.62x39mm penetrate the suit? In all seriousness, probably, but let us pretend it doesn't. You still feel the force of the bullet. So, you are walking down the street wearing your super-fuck-awesome suit of armor, and someone jumps out from an alley with an SKS. You take three rounds to the torso, which breaks your ribs, ruptures some organs, knocks the wind out of you, and causes you to fall over from pain and surprise. When you fall over, the assailant casually strolls up and finishes you with one to the head. Even if the armor was capable of stopping rounds with no other "effects", there is a thing called "tactics" that comes into play. SO, you stand there in your super-fuck-awesome armor, casually spraying ammo from an LMG (not paying attention to your round usage, tut tut). The enemy keeps you occupied from the front, and sends a compatriot to flank you from the side. They push you over, then put one in your head. No. Armor like this is stupid for this type of gameplay. Defending against hordes of mutants (with ZERO ranged weapons, might I add) in a subway tunnel where you can't be flanked? Excellent Defending from other thinking humans (with ranged weapons that can easily defeat the suit, might I add), in an urban environment that requires 100% situational awareness and reaction times? Not excellent.

A new way to start a fire

In my experiences, gasoline is in all actually rather shitty at starting fires. It burns hot, yes, but FAST, and therefore only really is useful for flash-drying wood and catching tinder (and other things with low flash-points) on fire.
  18. Whyherro123

    Heavy Armor

Sure, you can wear all that armor and stomp around town......while I wait for you to get exhausted and dehydrated, run up, break your legs, then slot a knife through the eye-slits in your helmet. pffffttttt....armor. All the armor I need is some leather/denim (seriously, denim is actually pretty tough) to cover my forearms. Protects against bites, and can be used to deflect a blade. Couple that with proper concealment and cover, and that is all the armor you will ever need.

A player ran in game economy.

If someone has an alternate means of starting fires (which will be implemented eventually), then the value of matches becomes tied to how much an individual needs them. If someone has a bow-drill to start fires with, they might only want 10 matches to keep as backup. Or NONE, and you have fuck-all to offer them.

Canned food will (eventually) become more rare. That, coupled with a "food degradation" (read: rotting over time if not preserved), could lead to canned food becoming valuable. However, preserved food (smoked meats, dried vegetables, etc) would also be valuable Rags....not so much. Anybody can make a shit-load of rags with just a few shirts. Add in an "infection mechanic", where un-sterile wound dressings cause infections, would lead to rags being the LAST choice for stopping blood loss. You would be better off trading other medical supplies, like painkillers or antibiotics. Of course, with a little Bushcraft, you could make it yourself and make a killing Bullets...eh. I know they are used as commodity money, but with the sheer different number of calibers we have, as well as the amount that spawns (read: A LOT. Seriously, there are too many bullets in-game), limits its use as currency. If I have a shotgun, 9mm is worth fuck-all to me. Now, if bullets were WAY MORE RARE, then we could talk. The fact that a caliber may be worth fuck-all to someone with a firearm not in that caliber remains an issue. You have to find what people NEED: If clothing spawns get cut back, and what is spawned in is usually damaged, people might want to make leather clothing. In that case, trade animal hides. If they want to use the bow, trade arrows. If they need medicine, take herbs and various plants to make bushcraft versions. If they want engine fuel/water treater/disinfectant/booze, build a still and make them moonshine. Seriously, moonshine is awesome.

    Honeycombs - food and beeswax

Honey is AWESOME for survival purposes. Eat it, spread the wax on clothing/blankets/tarps/etc, burn the husks, spread the honey on wounds (it IS a natural antiseptic), etc I carry a small container of honey in my backpack for general purposes, as well as individual packets in my survival kit.

swords, smithing, furnace, melee and ragnar

Want to make a blade? Cut it out of a leafspring. There is no need to go dig iron ore from the ground, smelt it, and try to forge it into useful things. Do you know how to use a forge? What the different grades of steel are, and more importantly, how to make them? Melting down scrap won't be all that useful for making metal tools, as different tools require different hardnesses (tempers) of steel, and determining the temper of different pieces of scrap can be difficult, much less forging them together into a coherent piece and retempering it to suit. Things like leafsprings and lawn-mower blades are hard, high-carbon steel. They can make effective knife and spear blades. Also, both railroad spikes and ball-peen hammers make for great tomahawk and hatchet heads. Of course, actually learning how to make these takes time and effort, something that might (read: probably) not be possible in a post-apocalyptic environment where you aren't even sure about eating tomorrow. Blacksmithing is, sadly, a dying art.

    Hoses

Ah....no, slingshots are deadly. If you catch a ping-pong-ball sized rock upside the head going 60mph, you are gonna die. They just have short range. For comparison, a "David vs Goliath"-style sling, (which I have made IRL) can propel fist-sized rocks fast and hard enough to make seagulls EXPLODE when hit.. At least 100mph, and probably faster, because the "release end" of the sling makes a sonic boom when released Also....is that the Star of Chaos?

    Open discourse about hoarding.

No, the whole point of this game is to survive. Duping things and stashing them in a tent removes survival almost entirely. In my opinion, tents shouldn't be able to stash gear. Instead, you log out inside a tent, when you log back in to some slightly buffed statuses, to represent you sleeping out away from the cold and the wet. (Of course, handbuild shelters would offer the same bonuses, they would just take longer and more materials to build/set up, and can't be carried with you) Want to stash something for later? Put it inside a small protector case or (new item imagined by me) a large protector case. As we know, (small) protector cases are 2x3 slots, and large protector cases could be 6x10 (or however large they have to be to hold a single longarm) Throw things you want to keep inside the protector cases, and leave them somewhere for a "rainy day" (may, or may not be, literal). Of course, this means you could only really stash some ammo, some food, some dry clothes, matches, medicine, etc, and even then, not really a HOARD, just enough to survive with. Of course, both protector cases would be bright neon colors (yellow?), so you would have to hide them, either by burying or stashing them in a tree. This way, when you die, depending on how prepared and thorough you were in the previous life, you could get a small jump start: some food, some tools, maybe a firearm (but the larger protector cases would be rare as FUCK). Not enough to outfit the whole CHEDAKI revolutionary front with assault rifles, but a small survival stash. Oh, and forget where you stashed it? Too bad. Better make a lot of stashes, as you can spawn anywhere on the coast! I REALLY dislike the whole "TENTS FULL O' GUNS" mentality the playerbase has.
