    Resenting DayZ

He probably means .308 winchester, which the Blaze uses Considering how he has two stacks of .308 in his inventory, he almost certainly meant .308
  2. Whyherro123

What is the final goal of this game?

Sure it does. In fact, that would be both my favorite , and the most realistic, "endgame" there is. Just because your group managed to "rebuild civilization", doesn't mean everyone, or even anyone, else did. So, you and your group can build up a little commune, with farms and generators and so on and so forth. But then you have to defend it from the marauding bandits that attempt to take it from you.

    The Forest and dugouts!

    1) The game isn't even close to being finished yet, and I believe the engine cannot handle underground things.

    Battle Royale?

    1) He didn't make just one Tweet/post, he made several, all with the same message. 2) We don't shoot them down for no reason. We shoot them down because either 1- they have the same idea that 100+ posters had before them and didn't use the search function, or 2- have an idea that is completely and 100% wrong, according to the Devs ( like "the infected" being Romero-type zombies, or the players catching "the virus" and changing into zombies, and get all butthurt when they get told they are wrong. Also, they tend not to use the search function. Hell, whenever you make a new topic, similar threads are brought up as soon as you put in the title. No excuse. Finally (and this is true for every Internet forum), the newbies need to lurk more. Sit around, read the longer threads, get a general idea about what the consensus is on the forum, then come in and post drivel. I lurked around here for months before making my account. 3) Yet again, you seemingly have the idea that "survivalists/Bear Grylls", as someone cleverly called us, do not want PvP in Day Z. Yet again, you are incorrect. We want PvP, we just want PvP for a reason. Fighting over resources, fighting to control territory, not camping a house in Berezino as you starve to death, all for some "sick action". Also, we want there to be developed and immersive environmental effects and related survival mechanics, so PvP of that nature becomes, in essence, the "end game". Right now, survival is so easy (even with diminished food and forced apple-picking), that within 30 minutes of spawning in, you can be ready to rumble in Berezino. Not cool.

    Massivly unplayable

When people stop complaining about survival-related mechanics being in a survival game, then I will stop repeating myself. I could also be MUCH more of an asshole if I so chose. The poster I quoted sounded personally offended by the fact there there was survival mechanics in a survival game. I was reminding them that nobody forced them to buy the game in the first place, and foraging for food in such a manner is what actually happens in real-world survival. Could the foraging mechanics be better? Of course. Will they be? Almost certainly. "Dat Alpha", and all that.

    Battle Royale?

Why are the devs going to waste valuable money and even-more-valuable time to implement a style of gameplay they don't, and will not, support?
  7. Whyherro123

    Battle Royale?

Again: Not the type of game the Devs want Day Z to be.
  8. Whyherro123

    Battle Royale?

    1) "survival", in this case, means "making difficult decisions", "struggling against the environment", "dealing with a scarcity of resources", "The rebuilding of society", not "which gun do I choose to kill as many people as possible"? 2) The Standalone is not the mod, as evidenced by its name. 3) The Devs, especially the lead developer, has stated outright derision at some of the more exclusively-pvp-oriented members of the playerbase, and a "Battle Royale"-type of gameplay would be right in that category. Numerous developers have stated through Tweets and Twitch that that is not the type of game they want Day Z Standalone to be. I do believe one quote was, and I paraphrase ," players running around on the coast, wearing pink dresses and hitting each other with broomsticks". Classic
  9. Whyherro123

    Battle Royale?

Not..... exactly the "type" of survival Day Z is looking for.
  10. Whyherro123

    Massivly unplayable

Day Z was, is, and will be, a survival game. "picking apples/berries" is something you do in actual survival. Sorry if you were misinformed as to what "survival" actually entails, but nobody forced you to buy this game.

    Amur Tiger in dayz?

People hear "like Russia", and they think "IS Russia". People think "IS Russia", and don't realize that Russia covers 17 MILLION SQUARE KILOMETERS, and stretches across 8 different time zones. Nope! 'IS Russia", so it obviously includes everything that Russia has, right! Protip: Chernarus is barely big enough for a pack of wolves, much less an animal that requires hundreds of square miles as personal hunting ground. Realistically, there wouldn't be all that many predators in Chernarus, at least the region we play in. Quoted from myself in another thread: --Which is why you sleep in a tree, and prepare all food away from your campsite. People seemingly have this idea that predators have this hate-boner for humanity, that they are just waiting for us to relax our guard, and they want nothing more than to kill and eat us. This idea could not be any more incorrect, and was (and sadly, is) the reason why so many predator species in Europe and North America were next-to wiped out. What are the predator species we are most likely to come across in Chernarus? Wolves and bears? Wolves want nothing less to avoid humans, and will only become aggressive if you intrude upon their territory. And aggressive, in this case, means following you and trying to scare you away. If you provoke an actual attack, they are probably more terrified than you are. Similarly with bears. Most bear attacks occur either because they smelled food/etc at your campsite, came to investigate, and you startled them, or you got between them and their young. The thing is, most animals (not only predators) actively seek to avoid potentially dangerous confrontation as much as possible. Predators don't go on murder-sprees just because they can, because they know that their prey can, and WILL, fight back, and they don't want to get hurt. If you get attacked by an animal, it is literally the final and worst option available to the animal, and it means you literally ignored EVERY other option to defuse the situation. These options include making themselves known, setting dominance (staring in particular. NEVER try to stare down an animal confronting you.), and actively following you in effort to scare you off and get you to leave. Plus, there is the territorial concerns. South Zagoria has about 225 square kilometers of area, and let us assume that only about 70 square kilometers of that is ocean. That leaves about 150 sq kilometers of area for animals to live, INCLUDING cities and human development. Let us lowball the area claimed by a wolfpack and a SINGULAR bear as 100 square miles (wolves, and the area is given for a wolfpack in the 48 lower US states http://www.wolf.org/...fo/wolf-faqs/#h), and for a bear is between 70 (female) and 300-500 (male) square miles per mindividual. http://westernwildlife.org/grizzly-bear-outreach-project/faqs/#a6 This works out to be 260 square kilometers for a wolfpacks territory, and between 181-1295 square kilometers for a female - male bear. So, we could have 1 wolfpack for the whole of South Zagoria, maybe a female bear, and not likely to come across a male one. So, even if predators were likely to attack humans, we wouldn't be likely to come across one. Really, the most likely aggressive animal we would come across would be packs of angry, hungry, rapidly-undomesticating dogs. Good eating on one of them!-- TL;DR-- If there were predators in Chernarus, they would (realistically) be there in such low numbers that we would likely not see them. And, they are unlikely to attack humans unless you deliberately piss them off.

That is disgusting. If you find a random fireplace in the middle of the street, check it out. You just might find these in the ashes.

    Do DayZ and Teamwork mix?

See, this right here tells me that you have probably no actual survival experience. In a "real -insert disaster here- apocalypse", all of the "lone wolves" will be the first to die out. In real-world survival, "lone-wolf" style is excruciatingly difficult in comparison to group-survival. They won't have any backup, nor help. Example: if they break a limb, they are helpless, and probably dead. Vs in a group, a broken limb, while still a "big deal" is much more manageable. Sure, you need fewer supplies, but it will take 10X as long, with 10X as much work, to gather said supplies. The "division of labor" is an actual thing, you know. Do you think human beings formed tribes and clans 150,000+ years ago for shits and giggles? No, they did it because it worked.

    Electro without Zombies

-ahem- Tweet from one of the Day Z devs. I feel that it is applicable to this thread https://mobile.twitter.com/eugenharton/status/583714726850486273

    Do DayZ and Teamwork mix?

In real life, survival is exponentially easier when undertaken as a group, which is why humanity has had tribes and such as long as, and even before, we were "modern humans". "Lone Wolf" survival is really, really difficult to accomplish in real life. Everything is more difficult, it takes longer to accomplish, and you have no "safety-net", as it were. This is due to the "division of labor", where in a larger group, the "resources required" for survival (food, water, warmth) only grows linearly, while the amount of work that can be done in larger groups grows exponentially. Yes, group size can get "too big" for the environment (when your group essentially picks an area clean of supplies), but this is when you break off into smaller, more focused groups (smaller, more in-shape group goes ahead to scout out terrain, clear trails, and set up camp, while the larger group travels with the weaker and wounded members) So, a group of 5 can build a shelter, gather wood and water, and build a fire all at the same time, while a single person has to do that all by themselves, taking probably 5-10x as long to do so, with increased levels of effort. The only thing "lone wolf" survival has going for it is stealth.
  16. Whyherro123

DayZ is the greatest game ever made

To me ,a game is only a "survival game" if the environment is at least equal a threat when compared to other players, and I prefer the environment to be the primary threat. The whole "man vs nature" shindig. Is Day Z there yet? Nope, not even close, but as one poster wrote above, it has potential. And, as a caveat, while I don't think Day Z is a good survival game just yet, that doesn't mean I think it isn't a good game in principle. Again, IMO, the best survival game I have played recently is "The Long Dark", and even that has problems. Namely, the wolves! For some reason, game devs apparently think that players will get bored without some killable antagonistic force (zombies, NPCs, what have you), and as such, the wolves in TLD don't behave like wolves at all. They roam around by themselves (which wolves don't do), aimlessly killing anything that comes across their path. I call them "replacement zombies", to the amusement of the TLD forum. Most of my deaths in TLD are not from hypothermia, starvation or sickness, but wolf attacks. It sucks the survival aspect out of the game when most of the strategies involve memorizing wolf "patrol routes". I really don't want Day Z to go that route. Should the zombies be a threat? Of course! Should the players also be a threat? Of course! Should the environment be a threat? Of course, to the point where the battle for surviving the elements (disease, starvation, exposure) becomes as important, if not more so, than the battle for the military spawns. As an aside, does anybody else play TLD?

Magazine Swap via Mouse in Inventory

I agree. Considering how there are no factories producing ammunition, nor traders bringing them in, the supply of bullets should feasibly be rapidly shrinking And what about before they died, or "turned into zombies"? They still used bullets, ate food, took medicine, and burned gasoline. From a realistic standpoint, there is FAR too much of basically EVERYTHING.

    so much for the struggle

It isn't "directly" caused by shock, but the things that can cause blurry vision and loss of color (pupil dilation, anxiety and hyperventilation, although "loss of color vision" is a tad bit more serious) are, in turn, symptoms of shock. I know a kid in my Scout Troop that accidentally stabbed himself in the thigh with a knife. On the way to the hospital, he told us he could barely see anything, which freaked him out even more.

What clothing set/weapons would you add if you could?

Bolas Easy to use, easier to make, and effective on all animals from small game all the way up to large deer, people, and birds, the bola is a sadly-underappreciated survival weapon. It basically wraps around and trips up the target, allowing you to safely approach it and spear/club it to death. Sling Easy to make, hard to use, the sling is also an underappreciated survival weapon. You can make it from any type of cordage, and ammunition is EVERYWHERE (and already implemented in-game, in the form of "small stones"). It would actually have a longer range than the "improvised bow", but less lethality (at least, until a more advanced medical system is implemented, with internal bleeding and such). Essentially, it would break the limb of whatever it struck, barring a lucky headshot. Spear: (the above is knapped from glass) Also easy to make and easy to use. A solid spear thrust will kill every animal on the North American continent, and from what specimens we have seen in-game, Chernarus as well. Allows you to threaten at a distance, while remaining safe from attack in return (unless your enemy also has a spear!)

    so much for the struggle

Look at it this way: When you get injured in Day Z, you aren't actually healing at a superhuman speed, you are merely dealing with the symptoms of shock. Shock is a physiological reaction that your body goes through whenever you get injured, whether it is a cut on the finger or a bullet to the chest. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shock_(circulatory)Can explain it better Essentially, whenever you get injured, your body reacts in certain ways. Some people get nauseous, some get disoriented, some faint, some blurry vision, etc etc etc. Treating for shock is a major part of 1st Aid, and it essentially is made up of 1) stop the cause of shock (stopping bleeding, treating dehydration, dealing with/ stopping pain, etc) and 2) eating, drinking, and resting. Sound familiar? It makes FAR FAR more sense for us to treat for shock than to assume we are healing at a superhuman speed. Part of the problem is that the in-game term for damage is "blood", and thusly we assume we are recovering "blood", AKA healing, when we get colored-non-blurry screens, which isn't actually the case. Blurry, grey-scale vision is a common symptom of pain-related shock. When we get the "healing/healthy buff", you aren't actually healing, just recovering from shock-related symptoms Relatedly, there is also a term in-game for how likely a hit is to knock you unconcious. While severe shock can knock you out, it isn't generally related to the actual force of a blow. Just to add to the confusion.

    Blaze with scope !

I agree with basically everything you said, except for the "Magnum vs FNX45", due to one simple reason : Logistics. With the Revolver, I don't have to search for ammunition -AND- magazines, nor do I have to brave well-known and well-frequented military and police locations to find said magazines. I can find 20 round boxes of .357Magnum in a lot of places around Chernarus, and I can keep both a sidearm and a (decent) longarm fed from the same ammunition supply, instead of using .45ACP for the FNX and another caliber for the longarm. Also, without a magazine, the FNX becomes a "one bullet wonder", while having a speedloader for the Revolver is nice, but not necessary. I still favor the Revolver over the FNX, or basically every automatic pistol in the game, for that reason (reasons?)
  22. Whyherro123

    Blaze with scope !

In my opinion, the Blaze is probably the most "effective" medium/long-range firearm in the game. AMAZING iron sights, perfectly accurate out to 300m (and most combat is well within that range), a powerful round, and the ability to "go shotgun" if things go south. I've gotten FAR (magnitudes greater) more kills with the Blaze than with an AKM or assault rifle. To me, the Blaze is a well-deserved member of the "Holy Trifecta" of easy-to-use weapons, with the Blaze being the "long range", the shotguns being the "medium" range, and the Revolver being the "close" range. Easy to use, easy to keep fed, and, when jamming and maintenance gets implemented, easy to maintain and a lot less likely to jam than an automatic.
  23. HINT: You aren't supposed to hipfire. Firearms have sights for a reason. If some idiot wants to stand in the middle of a street and "hipfire" at you with an AKM, be my guest. He is probably going to miss 29/30 shots

    Please, stop building villages everywhere

You are slightly incorrect. The whole of South Zagoria is 225 square kilometers, not 200 kilometers across. There is also only a couple of kilometers between towns.
