Could mushrooms possibly share the same dynamic system with apples?
Whyherro123 replied to ZomboCZ's topic in General Discussion
Mushrooms provide next-to-no calories, all while the chance for misidentification remains unacceptably, hilariously high. It isn't "eat the wrong mushroom and get a tummyache", more like "eat the wrong mushroom and die from liver failure". BY eating mushrooms, you are actively hindering your chances of survival. https://www.survivalresources.com/Articles/MushroomsNotForSurvival.html http://www.wilderness-survival.net/plants-1.php -
Could mushrooms possibly share the same dynamic system with apples?
Whyherro123 replied to ZomboCZ's topic in General Discussion
Except mushrooms are literally the last thing anyone would want to be eating in a survival situation. -
Will we be able to tame wolves, falcons or other animals?
Whyherro123 replied to Salty seadog's topic in General Discussion
What? No it isn't, the disease that "makes zombies" is literally a prion disease. Which ..... hmm, you actually might have a point. If a wolf or a bear eats the spinal/brain tissue of a human infected with said prion disease, then they would develop it. That is how Mad Cow disease moved from cattle to humans, after all. -
Will we be able to tame wolves, falcons or other animals?
Whyherro123 replied to Salty seadog's topic in General Discussion
It certainly can be handwaved, but it would feel hella forced. I would want to see the actual "equilibrium" factors in-game, like watching a forest burn down, or at least coming across the aftermath, as opposed to the devs :" Yeah, the animals attack because they are hungry, whatever." For pretty much the entirety of Day Z Standalone's existence, the devs have pushed, promoted and praised a "realistic/authentic" survival game. If that were the case, then wolves, bears and other wild animals wouldn't really figure in. By far, the most dangerous predator would could interact with in Day Z, as well as the most common, would be a rapidly-undomesticated feral, hungry dog. And they would be dangerous specifically because they lack fear of humans. The difference between that and a wolf are almost nil. As for diseases, most diseases tend to stay within one species, or one Family. Remember Avian and Swine flu? It was such a big deal specifically because they were able to jump species and remain so virulent. Most diseases when they do that generally amount to little more than a sniffle and a sore throat. -

1) The wolf alpha-beta hierarchy thing is, actually, a fallacy, based on the behaviors of captive wolves. Wild wolf-packs are family units, with the so-called "alphas" merely being the parents of the others, and semi-usually the only breeding pair. When the pack gets too big, or younger wolves want to get some strange, they leave and form their own pack. 2) There is enough space in South Zagoria for ......maybe, one wolf pack. And, that is it. http://westernwildlife.org/gray-wolf-outreach-project/biology-behavior-4/ Just like there is enough space in SZ for maybe a bear. Not a bear "pack", or a couple, but a singular bear. http://www.theanimalfiles.com/mammals/carnivores/bear_brown.html 3) Wolves are far more likely to run away long before humans ever catch a glimpse of them. Contrary to popular opinion, humans are actually terrifying as fuck to most animals, including other predators, who usually only attack humans when they are starving (and therefore have no other options), we stumble into their dens/young (so they attack out of desperation), or they are cornered and have no way to flee (again, desperation) The few instances of people "taming" wolves are almost always instances of wolf-dog hybrids, and the whole reason they can be tamed is because they are part dog. Amusingly, wolf-dogs are almost infinitely more dangerous than wolves, precisely because that lack the fear of humans that wolves have, yet still have the vestiges of wildness of their wolf ancestor. Same thing with animals that get used to human presence, like wolves and coyotes and bears. Just because they are no longer terrified of you and run away, doesn't mean they are going to like you and let you interact with them. Animals that lack fear of humans are some of the most potentially-dangerous animals to encounter, as it lets you get close to them, where they can get pissed off real quick, as they are still wild animals. NOTE: you can, in fact, "tame" wolves, and other wild animals, but it isn't like most people think of it. Instead of "two best friends surviving the apocalypse, only one is an animal", it is more like "some guy keeps the savagery of an animal away by constantly asserting dominance over it using the threat of violence or starvation". Domestication is, quite literally, genetic modification, the selecting of offspring and the controlling of breeding for specific traits. Not just physical traits, but also temperament and mental faculties. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestication 3) You are not the only one who is bothered by Morphine, but it is unlikely to be changed at this point. I would prefer it if we just died if we got a broken leg, which is what the overwhelmingly likely outcome would be if you break your leg in an actual wilderness survival event, but that just might be me. Not really feasible, either, what with how fucked the engine is. -

But the difference is we "need" those aircraft and more boomsticks -eyeroll- As for "taming" (AHAHAHAHAHHA) wolves, birds-of-prey..... no. No thanks. 50,000 years of genetic modification went into dogs to prevent them from tearing out our throats on sight. Wolves aren't going to follow you around, wagging their tails, because you shared some shitty canned tuna a couple of times. -
Eating any of one thing is a good way to develop vitamin deficiencies.

DayZ Standalone Base Building is almost here! How do you plan to use it?
Whyherro123 replied to DR. IRISHMIKE's topic in General Discussion
There is stuff like that EVERYWHERE in the game, man. Those pallets of wood, bricks, sheeting and chunks of concrete have been there for at least 2 years. Now, while they certainly would be useful for basebuilding, and the "logical" thing to implement, I have a sinking feeling that the devs won't. -

There is a difference between "knapping and pressure-flaking a bifaced knife from a nice piece of flint" and "smashing two rocks together until you get a kinda-sharp edge". The latter is what we do in-game. As someone who dabbles in stoneworking and is practiced in bushcraft ..... I have zero problems with it. When the mechanic first came out, I went out to my backyard and tried to replicate it. Within 5 minutes, I had a flake of stone that would cut sticks, tear cloth and so on and so forth. Pick a better hill to die on, bud. I've made a backpack in real life out of three sticks, some twine and some leftover canvas. I could make it work fine with rawhide. -
Sleeping Bags and Carrying the Unconscious
Whyherro123 replied to Get_in_the_house_Carl's topic in Suggestions
In no way should players lose control over their characters. Instead, if players log out with a sleeping bag in their inventory, or in a room with some form of bedding, you would instead spawn back in with various stages of "energized". -

Seriously, the wooden stick has got to be one of the best hand-to-hand weapons in the game right now, which is fucking hilarious. If you have a knife, you can get a stick. And, best yet, if you have to toss it away, who cares! Go get another one!. -
Water-proofing works both ways. If you make an article of clothing water-proof, water won't get through from the "outside" (rain), and from the "inside" (It traps sweat)
-
Just some quick info: In real life, hypothermia can set in amazingly quickly, depending on circumstances. I had a kid in my survival class go from "fine" to "needs to go to a hospital RIGHT THE FUCK NOW" in about 30 minutes. It was during a summer day, so pretty warm, and some light rain kicked in. The kid put on a raincoat, and he started to sweat. The sweat soaked into his clothing, and proceeded to suck all the heat from his body. That, in and of itself, would be a perfectly acceptable way to "balance" raingear, Gorka included. You would be protected from water, but you would have to balance increasing temperatures. Staying warm isn't all that difficult, even in a survival situation. It is staying dry that is the kicker. Also, hypothermia can kill you extremely quickly, again depending on the circumstances. I personally developed hypothermia over the course of about an hour, setting up for my survival course. It was raining lightly, and I got damp from the rain. I rushed around for a few minutes, setting things up,. and developed hypothermia. Within a few minutes, I went from "ok" to "unable to use hands due to shivering".

That isn't what he meant, Emu. If they are gonna implement a shitty system, then he would rather there not be skills at all. I kinda agree.

3PP vs 1PP - I finally have an opinion
Whyherro123 replied to BobbyDean's topic in General Discussion
Right now, I play both 3PP and 1PP. 1PP in actual firefights or when ADS 3PP when running around I get violent motion-sickness when running around in 1PP for any period of time longer than a few minutes at a time. I've messed with the FOV, headbob, etc. The only thing I can think of is the hilariously incorrect proportions in buildings and such. -
It is also used to mock people with Down Syndrome or other developmental issues. ♩ The more you know ♩

Really, man? I'm giving Buakaw shit for being offensive, and you go and use this term? ...... this is why we can't have nice things.

teehee You do realize that the majority of people talking down to you on this forum have been here since the very beginning, right? I myself joined a couple of days after Day Z went Standalone. BioHaze has been here since the mod. With that in mind, take a guess as to just how many of "your type" we have seen come on this forum, spew their frankly-stupid ideas everywhere, and leave. Usually, only after a couple of posts. Literally hundreds. Hundreds of the same cookie-cutter ideas, hundreds of the same talking-points concerning KoS, "Anarchy", and why we are the ones who should make way for you. Hell, I have even been told, flat-out, that I am "Playing the game wrong", and that I should leave. From the very same crowd that, when there isn't firearms and food available immediately, cry about the devs stifling "their way to play". Amusing, no? With the above in mind, I can certainly understand why BioHaze got upset. Hell, I have gotten upset at the level of shithattery that overtakes this forum sometimes. I have also taken a break, both from the forum and from the game, for longer than you have been a member here. Keep that in mind. So, if we seem exasperated or annoyed when "argument why KoS is 'realistic # 3002" rears its ugly head again, stop for a second and think about it. "Is there non-zero chance this has been posted before?. If so, the other posters have almost certainly seen it already"

..... You do realize that shotguns are actually pretty fucking good weapons in Day Z, right? When they aren't broken, that is. In urban areas, shotguns are perfectly capable of rocking someone's socks off. I can't tell you how many bad KoS-kiddies I've smacked down with a double-barrel. Having "good gear" doesn't equal skill. Secondly, "instant gratification" is perfectly possible in Day Z. Remember when people used to run around on the coasts with dresses and fire extinguishers/brooms? About as close as one can get to "instant PvP gratification". Also, what the actual living, breathing fuck does feminism have to do with this? In all my time, this is the second game forum where I have seen "feminist" or "SJW" used as an insult. The first was the Rimworld forum. Congrats on being a fuck, Buakaw. I'd rather this place not turn into the Rimworld forum.

You do realize that, quite literally, all of the examples you mention reinforce our points, not yours? During all of the riots you mention, what happened? Yes, there was looting, murder and mayhem, but what else? Oh, wait. Neighborhoods and social groups banded together and defended themselves and their homes from others. Formed "neighborhood watches" (militia's), protected and looked after weaker members of the group, and, yes, attacked members of other groups. Somalia? What do you think the warlords are doing? Defending themselves and their retainers from other warlords! There has never, NEVER NEVER NEVER, been a point in human history when we didn't band together and help each other out. At the expense of other humans, up to and including killing? Of course. But we still worked together to do so. Humans are an inherently tribal species. ....... Do you know how long I have been a member of this forum? Just how many times I have discussed this exact topic, with the same points and examples? I'm tired, man. Tired of Day Z.

You know, I have got to wondering. If someone thinks that society will shit the bed and degenerate into lawless anarchy as soon as the power goes out ....... does that mean that they would do that? On a related note, the second Cracked article has probably the best quote I have ever heard: "The entire premise of The Walking Dead -- and all apocalypse fiction -- seems to be that civilization is this bullshit idea that can never work once the chips are really down, as if it's some frivolous artifact of the modern world that will crumble the moment shit gets difficult. In real life, the exact opposite is true -- when shit gets real, we just organize harder."
-
Uh, no. http://www.cracked.com/article_21251_5-things-every-movie-gets-wrong-about-apocalypse.html http://www.cracked.com/article_21928_4-things-the-walking-dead-gets-wrong-about-apocalypse.html And, just to clarify, in the entirety of human existence, there has never once been an example of societal collapse that could be called "post apocalypic". Not once. Roman Empire "collapsed"? More like "Say goodbye to the old boss, say hello to the new boss, who speaks Frankish/Saxon as opposed to Latin". Oh, and the collapse of the Western Roman Empire took place over time, a century at least.

It would work...... up until someone dropped a couple of trees over the tracks. Or a part breaks. Or you run out of fuel. On second thought, it wouldn't work

Pvp..... being neglected? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHA Oh...... you were serious? Like, actually serious? OH SWEET JESUS MY SIDES. The only way PvP could be any more prevalent in Day Z right now is if you had the option to create a class, and your spawned into 15 minute rounds.
