To the OP. What..... do you think happens in "real life" with a bow and arrow? Do you somehow have a belt-fed bow that feeds in new arrows after you loose them? :P No, you have to "reload" a new arrow after every shot, usually from a belt-or-back quiver. If anything, making it so new arrows get fed in "automatically" will do nothing except for piss me off. The nocking process is actually rather important in "primitive archery". Quivers should "hold" arrows, so they don't take up space in the main inventory, not act as a magazine.

That is something entirely different than what the OP suggested, but I agree.

Huh? ...... I just took a long (like, knee-high) wool sock, which could approximate the in-game rags, and tied a knot in the toe. I then proceeded to whap myself in the face with it. It certainly stung, but asides from making me feel like an idiot, it didn't exactly cause harm.

Ah, yes, the attack of the "terrifying pet store rat" trope! http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/TerrifyingPetStoreRat I like how the dogs are actually fucking ecstatic to be there. You can see one's ( more than one, if you look closely) tail wagging happily away. They are having a grand ol' time, and are looking forward to those treats from their handlers for a good scene.

Uh, no. Complete nonsense. Humans have been on top of the food chain since we invented fire ( 400,000 years ago, during Homo erectus) , and the development of pointy sticks only cemented our place on the top. We have easily the most-lethal form of natural weapon ever evolved right in our heads: the human brain. Using our brains alongside our opposable thumbs, we are capable of building weapons capable of killing mammoths. You can't "take away" knowledge. Even the most untrained of people recognize that even a stick, swung like a club, is more lethal than teeth or claws, and serves as a better weapon. Humans are fucking murder machines. We have been on the planet for easily 500,000 years, and literally 99.9% of all species are flat-out terrified of us. We aren't a prey species. We are, in fact, apex predators (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_apex_predators#Terrestrial_2). While animals might certainly eat humans ( I am not denying that), no species has a regular habit of eating human beings. None. We aren't "preyed on" by anything, and haven't been for at least 400,000 years.

Oh, yes, small lap-dogs and pure-breds are highly unlikely to survive. When I refer to "dogs", I am generally referring to mutts. Mutts would be likely to be found in the country, on farms and such. And I am willing such "cross-breeds" would be relatively common in South Zagoria, as pure-breds tend to be expensive, and SZ is known as a poor-underdeveloped region.

Guys, I never said that I didn't want to see wolves as an enemy. I just don't like how they are portrayed as stupid, DERP-chaerg imbeciles instead of the intelligent hunters they are. I have the same issues with The Long Dark. What is more frightening: a wolf charges you as soon as you enter its line of sight, or, as you walk through the woods (hungry, tired, and cold, mind you), you see a flash of grey through the trees. You dismiss it as an overactive mind. Later, you actually see a wolf, staring at you. Then, you realize that you have been followed for the last few miles ........ hunted, if you will. And you are now surrounded. As for "maybe the wolves are infected" thing: diseases are really not suited to crossing species. As vectors (means of transference), yes, but an individual of one species passing "the" disease onto an individual of another unrelated species ..... not really. That is why it was such a big deal for bird-flu and swine-flu to pass from those families to humans.

Yes, run from the pack-predator already in "chase!"-mode. That will go over well  That guy would have been far better off if he decided to stand and make a threat-display. The wolves were already focused on the elk?/deer?, and probably would have fucked off if he made himself a big enough pain-in-the-ass. Hell, if he fired the rifle (not even at the wolves, just shot into the air), the report, which would probably be the loudest noise those wolves would ever hear, would drive them off right quick. While I am undoubtedly happy to see some more varied wildlife in the game, I really have to take umbrage with how it looks like they are going to be portrayed. In real life, predators are smart. They don't just attack things, either other animals or humans, randomly or for shits and giggles. The chances of getting hurt in a confrontation are too high for an intelligent animal to roam around and pick fights for no reason, and so they ...... don't. Predators attack when they are 1) hungry, and even then they prefer to use ambush, speed, overwhelming force, or preferentially all three at the same time, or 2) when they are scared. The majority of wolf attacks on humans occur when humans blunder into a wolf-packs territory, and even then the attack is a last-option. Wolves especially will shadow a target, letting them know they are being followed, and then make a threat display. They will attack when they get cornered, or when the human is about to stumble into the den, but it generally isn't " HUMAN THERE RIP TEAR KILL", at least not right away. You have to remember that human beings, due to our upright shape (which is basically non-existant in nature), coupled with the multitude of smells we put off, are really fucking scary to other animals. 999.999% of the time, animals will run the fuck away from humans, with the exception of the "big" predators (bears and great cats, mostly), and even then they can be scared away. Basically, humans are Cthulu to other animals. Essentially, making predators (especially wolves) little more than chaotic-evil always-vicious beasts ever-hungry for human flesh is painfully close to why they are (were, but they still are pretty close) on the verge of extinction in real life. Wolves should be a threat only to poorly-prepared survivors, those injured, and people by themselves. Travelling in a group would essentially eliminate the wolf threat. Not including the fact that there isn't really enough wilderness in South Zagoria to support a wolf-pack. We could have essentially one wolf-pack, and that could be anywhere between 8-20 wolves. http://www.wolf.org/wolf-info/basic-wolf-info/wolf-faqs/#h In reality, the most common predator (that would undoubtedly be hostile to humans) we should find in Day Z would be feral-ized dogs, who are dangerous specifically because they have no fear of humanity. They are basically wolves in all but name, anyways.

[Clarification] DayZ Server Monetization

I know. I cringed as soon as I read that announcement. -
You..... aren't going to be making stone axes that are capable of cutting down trees. Hell, you won't be capable of making stone/glass knives that look like this: Believe or not, but that knife, and other stone-knappings like it, are the result of a learned skill that takes many weeks to learn properly. This is more something I would see the "average" survivor making. (minus the pressure flaking) And all of those little flakes getting knocked off would be perfectly servicable "knives" in their own right, ( watch the video on "Hoko knives" I posted), or for use as arrowheads. For example, this is how long it takes a master flintknapper to make a roughed-out (aka not all that usable) flint axehead.

"Primitive" technologies don't even have to be that geared towards weapons or shelters, even. You could gather acorns, cattail, or water lily-roots for food You could make baskets out of birch bark, for carrying things or for boiling water You could make cordage from cedar bark or twisted grass ( I've used a particularly-heavy bit of cedar-bark cordage for a bowstring before) You could use "small rocks", heated in a fire, to boil water for consumption or cooking (usually paired with the above bark-bowl) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyC8yqYj3_M

Huts should totally be persistent. To counter the "people will build them everywhere" argument, simple: make them take a decent amount of time and effort to build, and make them "non-portable" (obviously). In H1Z1, the hills are strewn with "hobo-cities" of shitshacks because 1) they take like 3 boards and some nails to build, and 2) they get erected in literally 30 seconds or so. They don't involve much effort. Conversely, if something like the above lean-to took 20 pieces of firewood, 50 sticks, and several armfuls of pine needles/leaves to build (and it took a decent amount of time to do so), do you think everyone would waste the time and effort to make one? The main advantage of tents is that they are "portable", in the sense that you can find a tent/base, empty it out, pick it up, carry it somewhere else, and set up a camp there pretty easily. These lean-tos would be literally impossible to do that with. On the other hand, you could make them pretty easily, out of stuff you find in the woods, without having to brave potentially-hostile loot spawns

That daub-and-wattle hut, with the clay-tile roof? Took the guy multiple MONTHS to build. Not...... very feasible. The below is much faster, easier, and more applicable to the environment Day Z takes place in (the survivor-guy in the above video is from New Zealand, which is a different environment-type) As for more "primitive technologies", I have always loved using glass as a stand-in for flint. Lightweight, available anywhere people have lived, and just as workable as flint, and as effective. The below is a good "primitive" knife that you can make in a few minutes, just by knocking some sharp flakes off a piece of glass Or, use said flakes as an arrowhead, which in turn would be faster and easier than trying to carve down bone.

Well, in my state you can only hunt with steel broadheads wider than 7/8ths of an inch. Mostly, I make them to prove to myself that I can. As for the rest, I try to as much as possible. When you get down to the basics, there is very little difference between a sharp edge made of steel and a sharp edge made of broken glass. Most "survival skills" depend more on improvisation and such, rather than straight tools, so "doing things" really depends on how you think about it. I've built a shelter (check some of my other threads for ideas) using nothing more than my bare hands before, it just takes longer.

The doors and body panels of the V3S, as well as the new vehicles, are pretty much going to be made from sheet steel. They most emphatically aren't bullet-proof, just like in "western" vehicles. The engine-block and frame of the cab "might" be made from thicker, stronger steel, but you can't really hide behind them.
-
I am into "primitive" survival, where I attempt to use the same tools as our ancestors did 10,000+ years ago. It basically proves that skills >>>> tools. As for glass arrowheads, yeah, you aren't going to be knapping perfect points from glass. Hell, I can't do that: knapping is a learned skill. But, you can make perfectly servicable arrowheads from just shards of glass, no skill required.

Sure, ducking down makes you a smaller target..... up until your assailant realizes that literally every rifle-round in the game will punch through the thin sheet-metal of a vehicle door, and puts 10 rounds through the entire compartment.

Easy, make it actually take time to make the arrows. Sure, carving down the end of stick takes like , 3 seconds, but attaching feathers often takes a few minutes. And that is with the "Eastern Two-Fletch", which is easier and more straightforward than the "traditional" three feathers. It can actually be a bit of a pain in the ass to do a three-feather-fletching without a jig. Straightening the shafts is relatively simple (heat them over a fire, and bend straight), but it takes time (to build the fire, and to work the shafts). Oh. and want to make an arrowhead from bone? That is going to take a while. Enjoy rubbing a bone fragment on a rock for the next hour (or more) or so. The amount of time it takes to make a bone arrowhead is why I prefer to use glass.

There are .... plenty of "stabbing" animations, actually. Most of the knives are stabs. EDIT: Besides, aren't chain-link fences (which I am assuming you are going to make the links from, considering how they are probably the most common source of equal-gauge metal wire available) made from mild steel? If so, a solid chop from a slashing weapon would cut through at least some of the links.... plus the maille would do fuck-all to stop bashing weapons, like hammers and firearm buttstocks. Plus .... wouldn't chain-mail armor be rather heavy, for little reward?

What is the best weapons for a sniper operator
Whyherro123 replied to kataro's topic in General Discussion
The main reason I like the Blaze (asides from all the other reasons : P), is the fact that you don't have to adjust that much in order to take the second shot. With a bolt action, you have to work the bolt, which on the Winchester is a ludicrously long animation. -
^ Pretty much If you give someone the freedom to paint/write/draw anything, from words to "art", what do you think the media will be, almost overwhelmingly? Penises. This playerbase, and most playerbases, are not mature enough to handle that level of freedom.

NewUi Icons, How Do They Work?
Whyherro123 replied to Conrad_The_Comrade's topic in General Discussion
You got an FPS increase? ...... Do you have to know a guy? Because I definitely didn't get an FPS increase....... -
Agree as well. We all know what will happen to the game if "unlimited" modding becomes available. I have absolutely no issue with new maps, new vehicles, new weapons, etc Just, PLEASE, no " No zombiez 1000% loot self-bloodbag FART NOISE FART NOISE FART NOISE" modded servers, please

I agree, but ...... in a different fashion. Yes, as I have outlined before, there would be plenty of food available in the wilds of South Zagoria. What is far too common is canned food. On this, we agree. The second the general population hears about any sort of difficulty, they run out to the store to clear shelves. Why people think they should find supermarkets stocked with food, I have no idea. They obviously haven't been through a New England winter. Without power, anything that isn't in a can/vacuum sealed will go bad in a couple of days. The loss of power very well could have been "before" society shat the bed, and the dwindling number of survivors ate most of the other canned/preserved stuff. We don't know how long it has been since society fell apart, but in-game evidence points to 1) at least one "growing season" ( Berenzino is unkempt, but not overwhelmed), and 2) less than two years (medication, like epinephrine, and gasoline tend to go bad after 24 months of manufacture http://www.autoblog.com/2008/03/31/does-gas-go-bad/) However, I have to disagree with you on ammunition. Yes, there was a Civil war in the lore, and yes, both sides would have stockpiled ammunition, but you can counter with one thing: Apocalypse logistics. (http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ApocalypticLogistics) With the loss of international communications and infrastructure, anything more complicated than a handcart rapidly becomes unsustainable. Advanced medicines cannot be synthesized, gasoline cannot be distilled (anything made of petroleum becomes extremely hard to get), and bullets cannot be manufactured. Approximately 99% of the mercury needed for primers comes from China. The smokeless powder is extremely hard to make outside of laboratory conditions, and basically requires both electricity as well as advanced chemistry, both techniques as well as facilities and materials. Brass, especially military-style bottlenecked cases, can only be reloaded a couple of times before they get too weak. You can't really fire a pure-lead bullet from a modern firearm, as "leading" will occur. Do you know how to jacket cases? Chernarus has a national firearms company, Chernarusk Zbrojovka, which would presumably have reloading facilities and materials, but, since it isn't in South Zagoria, those materials and tools might as well be on the moon. Not even including that modern cartridges deteriorate over time, especially under not-so-ideal circumstances. A couple of cases of Soviet-surplus 7.62x39mm stashed in a barn (getting damp, getting cold, and getting hot, not to mention the caustic properties of the surplus round) by the CHEDAKI is ..... not going to be so good. Case (heh) in point: a couple of years past, after my granddad died, we took a couple of bricks of .22LR ammo to my local Scout camp, so the Scouts could shoot for cheap. The rangemaster fired some, looked at the rest, and refused the lot. He even offered to dispose of them safely. The powder had deteriorated to the point where they almost didn't propel the bullet out of the barrel, the primers were iffy, and the cases were so weak they tore upon extraction. The bricks weren't even that old: less than 2 years, and had been dry and safe the whole time. I have always wanted Day Z to be "different" in the sense that loot really shouldn't "respawn". That is, there is plenty of loot in the "beginning" of the server, but as time goes on, the spawn rate gets less and less, to the point where "prepackaged" loot is rare. In the beginning, there would be plenty of food, both canned and fresh, plenty of clothing, plenty of bullets, and plenty of meds, but as it gets used up, it is "gone", for lack of a better term. Sure, you could have loot respawn, but it would be caches found in out-of-the-way spots on the map, not fresh magazines in the middle of the NWAF. Also, loot would naturally deteriorate over time. Fresh/unpreserved food goes bad and rots, canned food can harbor Botulism if it gets damaged, bullets degrade depending on the environment, magazine springs wear out if constantly under tension (you aren't "supposed to" keep a magazine loaded for a long time, as the springs wear out), and medication loses effectiveness. Yadda yadda yadda What does that mean for the game? It means both the "CoD-kids" and the "backwoods survivalists" could actually play the same game. Early, there would be plenty of ammunition, meds, and so on for the reckless PvPers, and later on, the survivalists could have fun. It would also give " a reason" to band together. Your clan could set up a base where they turn out new ammunition, or prepare for a "scavenging run" to the cities to look for materials for crafting. Etc etc etc
