Guys, making the "infected" more dangerous at night makes absolutely no sense. The "infected" are literally just people with a degenerative brain disease, and unless said degenerative brain disease magically changed the rods and cones receptors in their eyes, they will have literally the same level of night vision as normal humans, aka not all that great. During a full moon, sure, they will be able to see, but any other time they will be stumblefucking around.

What is your honest opinion on the future of DayZ
Whyherro123 replied to karlkurtz32's topic in General Discussion
Hoo boy On the one hand, I still believe that , given enough time, Day Z can eventually be the game that "everyone" can enjoy; the survivalists, the lone-wolves, the clan gang-bangers, and the people that like to run around in dresses. There is enough space throughout the entire map that everyone can literally do whatever they want and not ever have to stumble across other people. On the other hand, I am, and have been, "losing faith" in Day Z as a "survival game" for a while. Every patch, new guns get added, new "military things" get added, new vehicles, fucking helicopters and RPGs, yet we have had the same old shitty medical system, and a complete and total lack of any real "survival" mechanics, for basically more than a year now. The "game" isn't difficult, hasn't been for a while, and even when it gets even slightly-difficult (granted, the difficulty was a result of bugs, but the point remains the same), the forum gets flooded with posts like "WAAAAHHHH LOOOT iZ 2 HARD" " WHY CANT I FIND FUD" " NO BULLETS ANYWERE GAEM SUKZ". Annnddd... the game was rolled back. Depressing. I only really play the game every couple of months, whenever a new patch gets released. I play for a few days, get bored with the unchanging mechanics, and go play something else until the next patch.- 58 replies

No. No, it wouldn't. This is one of the models of ballistics armor used by the US Army. When the plates are inserted, it is equal to NIJ Standard IV protection. When the plates are removed, the level of protection is equal to NIJ level III. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Improved_Outer_Tactical_Vest) Here is a summary of the levels of protection. (http://www.globalsecurity.org/military/systems/ground/body-armor1.htm) NIJ IV protects against "armor-piercing" rifle rounds NIJ III protects against pistol rounds It is important to note that, due to the construction of and the material the plates are made of, you pretty much get "one bullet" of protection, as the plates tend to break up when they get shot (note: this is intentional. They break because they are absorbing most of the energy of the blow). So, you get shot in the chest, the plate breaks, and you are shit-outta-luck for the next 29 in the magazine. Not including that: You only get a "couple" of bullets-worth of protection. As above, the plates break when shot. The more they break, the less effective they are, to the point where they basically don't do jack-shit.You still feel the force of the bullets impacting, and impacting+deforming bullets can still harm you. You can read stories about US soldiers opting for armor 3+ sizes larger than what they would normally wear, so when the plates broke and deformed, they would still have "space" in between the broken plate and their bodyGetting shot, even with body armor, will knock the wind out of you. Hell, depending on how much balance you have, how prepared you are for the impact, and how you are positioned, it might even knock you overThe armor is HEAVY. The vest I linked to weighs 35 POUNDS without anything being attached. Have fun wearing that around Oh, and let us say that 4 people rush you with AKs, spraying in your direction. If they each dump 10 rounds from a magazine, that is 40 7.62x39mm rounds impacting possibly impacting you. Let us assume that your body armor absorbs more than one round, as the 7.62x39mm is an intermediate cartridge. Sooooo..... rounds 1-5 get blocked, rounds 6-40 possibly (probably) punch right through into your chewy center. Oh, and that is even if they all impact your torso. The in-game plate carrier only covers from the neck to the hips. Get shot in the thigh, bleed out in seconds. Get shot in the leg, get the leg blown off. Get shot in the arm, get the arm blown off. .... Nope, still fucked. If anything, the ballistic vest gave you enough time to think "OH SHIT" before you got killed. Not really worth the additional weight, increased water and food consumption, nor the plain "pain in the ass" amount of effort it would be to lug that thing around. You would only want to wear it when you know you are going into combat. Like, "assaulting a base" combat, not "chumming it up in a po 'dunk village in the ass end of the map"

wonderful I am going to laugh SO HARD when someone points a gun at me in-game and all we both hear is "click"

Plus, you know, jamming, stovepiping, and other assorted malfunctions. You "aren't supposed to" leave spring-fed magazines loaded for a long time ( in my firearms class, I was told a week was about the maximum), as the continuous tension of the cartridges on the spring weakens it (the spring), and this weakened spring can have issues feeding in cartridges. Plus, you know, dirty bullets. Most of the ammunition in-game is most likely Soviet-era shit-tastic surplus. Weak brass, corrosive powder, primers gone to shit, the whole nine yards. Fire half a mag of shit-surplus from that AKM you found buried in a CHEDAKI stockpile underneath a barn floor, and that thing should totally jam. -sigh- I ..... I just want firearm malfunctions :(
-
If anything, Ballistic vests should "protect" you (meaning: the bullets don't actually penetrate your body) for only a couple of shots. Then, the vest gets compromised and the bullets -derp- right through. Oh, and the force of the impacts? You totally still feel those, and get deep muscle bruising and broken bones. If I was in a Day Z-like situation, I personally would not waste my time wearing a Ballistics vest. Heavy, hot, and frankly, not nearly as effective as a good piece of cover? No thanks. I've got LBE that can carry just as much "stuff" as the pouches on a Ballistics vest, with 1/3 the weight and almost no insulation value. Cover and proper positioning is the modern soldiers 1st, 2nd, and 3rd line of defense in a firefight. Body armor is for those "OOPS" moments, not so you can tank rifle rounds to the torso.

Pretty much. If you kill a cow that has a calf in its womb, the calf is pretty much either already dead, or going to die. No need to get all weepy-butthurt over it. My major problem with the situation isn't " OMG I killed a baby cow :( ", but instead " Holy FUCK, how am I going to preserve ~1500lbs of meat???!!!" Also, seriously? " In a game where the only thing to do right now is run around and kill people, in various means up to and including torture, I am going to get all butthurt because I ate some meat"

Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?
Whyherro123 replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Bolt-action .22LR: I agree, Get rid of the Amphibia, give us a "CR427" (http://cz-usa.com/product/cz-452-scout-22lr-beech-single-shot-adapter/) Automatic Pistol: The CR75, hands down. "The locally-produced" automatic, that was likely the service pistol for the CDF and the Chernarus Police? It makes the most sense. Bolt-Action rifle: I would rather have a "local" .308/equivalent bolt action, but they gave us the Winchester "Civilian hunting firearm"....... you mean the CR527, the "locally produced in-country" brush gun? Lightweight, can accept a scope, and can be chambered and accept magazines? I dunno, I just don't think it is worthwhile taking up a possible weapon spawn. There are quite a number of firearms I feel the exact same way about -
Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?
Whyherro123 replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
But, that is just the thing. The different varieties of "Check shirts" aren't all different things, that fulfill different roles or do different things. They are just different colored shirts. Not including that many articles of clothing don't exactly "behave" as they should (really, "check shirts" should be semi-decent articles of clothing, instead of the eye-candy they are), but most of the different pieces of clothing do "different things". Military jackets provide camouflage in different environments, raincoats prevent you from getting wet in rain, insulated jackets keep you warm, and cargo pants provide more carrying space. They all do (or really, "should") different "things". I view the CR527 and the IZH-18 like two different varieties of a Double-barrel shotgun, for lack of a better example. We already have the IZH-43, so we realllllyyyy don't need a Winchester Model 24 double barrel. We don't "need" another .308 Winchester bolt-action rifle. All of the various firearms in game represent various categories: Military surplus bolt action, military surplus semi-auto, high-value bolt-action, automatic pistols in various calibers, etc. I am still rather confused as to why we have 4 different 9mm automatic handguns, 2 with literally the same magazine size. Cut it down to 2, or even one. Asides from the fact that the Makarov and P1 are almost laughably unused. -
Believe me or not, but I actually agree, and I can actually respect you as a KoSer, mainly because you outright admit that you do it because you are bored and there is nothing else to do. I understand, and agree Rather obviously, I am one of the players waiting, with bated breath, for actual survival mechanics, loot rarity, an actual fucking challenge to the game, but until we get to that point, the only thing this game is good for is serving as a poorly optimized deathmatch taking place on a map that is far, far too large for that purpose. And .... I'll admit it, when I come across players now in-game, chances are pretty high that I am just going to wax you off hand, unless you make it really worth my time not to. Like you, I was originally friendly, trying to talk to people and holding people up. But, as a result of getting both fist-charged by bambis for no reason, and getting executed whenever I do surrender, and getting trash-talked during both instances, I just plain stopped giving a shit. Unlike you, I got, and get, bored with Day Z as a result. I have much better games in my library for getting my pickle tickled via schadenfreude. In all honesty, I am not even all that against KoS. I just want it to happen for an actual reason. Like, " that guy is sick, we need to prevent exposure", or "those bandits are attacking our trade caravans, lets round up some sturdy boys and send em off", or "those guys over in the next valley have some nice stuff, including an actual working water well. Lets sneak over and see if we can't nab some, or failing that, break it!". Instead of the current "punch-out YOLO Bambi"/ "Assnugget killing said Bambi"/"torture-porn-light" shennanigans that makes Day Z so "famous" around the net. But, again, I can actually empathize and agree with your points. At least, better than I can " I am RPing a Pyscopath!!!!11111!!!!" bullshit.

Here I was thinking that this thread was about, you know, something serious? "Can't" ( more specifically, "have some difficulty") throwing things from a deerstand? Probably something wayyyyy down there on the "alpha bugs to fix" list. More in line with the topic, just find a big enough backpack. Or ..... go without. Its "just" a chainsaw.

Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?
Whyherro123 replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Weapons don't have to be "equal", they just have to be useful, or different enough to justify taking up a weapon spawn. Right now, the CR527 does literally everything better than the IZH-18. Can be chambered in single-shot, can already accept a scope, can be painted, and can accept a relatively-common magazine. They even fulfill the same "role", that of a popular hunters weapon. I, in all seriousness, have found more CR527s than I have IZH-18s. My clan makes regular use of the CR527, with and without the scope, and with and without the magazines, but we have never used the IZH-18. Much like the Derringer and Sporter, the IZH-18 looks cool on paper, but when you actually try to use it, its flaws are readily apparent. It isn't even that useful as "babby's first gun", considering how you can walk down the street and pick up a shotgun and 15 rounds, then go ROFLstomp a geared-out bandit into the dirt with ease. This is an apparent issue with the 7.62x39mm in general, and many bullets in particular, but I have had some serious bad luck with putting people down with it recently. I shot a bambi center-mass the other day (from around 50 meters or so, and the round impacted in between the upper torso and the stomach), and they still had the ability to sprint up to me, Rocky Balboa style. I had to pull out a shotgun, break their legs, then splatter their dome. If bullets actually behaved like bullets, then the IZH-18 might actually be useful. But, right now, another relatively-common firearm does literally the same thing, while possibly being "better". No dice. -

What is it's place? -
Oh, I agree. I still don't understand why certain longarms, like the Repeater and the Blaze (isn't the Blaze IRL worth several thousand dollars apiece?) are in-game asides for shits n' giggles, but Mosins, CR527s, SKS's, and such should be more common than handguns. Really, anything that could be used as a hunting weapon, or a "plinker" for target/varmint shooting should be pretty common. Ammo, on the other hand......

While I certainly agree that the Primary safety of any weapon should first and foremost be the user, the OP has an actual point. There are many times and places in-game that I would like to have the safety engaged on my firearm. Like changing fire modes, you can switch the safety off by pressing "T". It would be hilarious if someone went into combat and forgot to disengage the safety! Happens in real life plenty of times. As an aside, for the OP, while I am sure English must not be your first language, "he came on the left mousebutton" happens to be a sexual entendre that makes my Day Z playtime look positively Puritanical.

Removing dressings and cleaning them is the whole point. Leaving them on would be actively harmful. And, boiling rags and dressings should return them to a Pristine state, not Damaged or anything like that. Pristine is sterile (which everything is after being submerged in 212 degree F water), anything less than Pristine is various stages of "dirty"

My heart weeps for the loss of your "well-earned" gear..... /sarcasm What is that saying again? " Don't get attached to your gear?" Oh, yeah... This doesn't need instant fixing. Know what needs "fixing"? Most of the architecture of the game. Get to bug reporting in the meantime.

In an actual survival situation, I would have zero qualms with killing baby animals in order for me to survive. It is, after all, "me or them", plus, animals don't exactly have empathy/inspire empathy like human beings. Not including the fact that juvenile animals are extremely unlikely to survive without their parents. A mercy kill via bullet/arrow is almost infinitely preferable to starving to death. Shit, some of the more successful traps and snares are goddamn horrifying. Killing people is different from killing animals. If you can't differentiate between the two, then there is something wrong with the wiring in your brain. Is the "You should feel bad for killing baby animals" shtick coming from the guy that just murdered a dude and ate him? Really? Priorities, man. As an aside, I fully understand that these are pixels, not real people or animals.

That also isn't what defibrillators are for. They don't actually "bring anyone back to life", they are used to restart the heart/ try to return it to proper rhythm when it stops beating/gets improper rhythm due to a heart attack. If they are dead, then they are dead The devs should just straight-up remove defibs from the game. The chances of actually surviving a "heart attack"/ "arrhythmia" in a survival situation are slim to none.
-
Just an FYI, Tourniquets don't actually "heal" anything, all they do is prevent blood flow through the limb. After you apply a tourniquet, you have to apply bandages, or more likely ( if tourniquets are needed to stop blood loss, the wound is probably pretty severe), sew up the blood vessels and the wound. If you apply a tourniquet to a wound, wait for the blood to stop flowing, then take the tourniquet off, you are probably going to pass out and die from loss of blood pressure.
-
For what purpose, exactly? There isn't going to be any "outside" agencies answering your signals. All they will do is clue other (let's face it, probably hostile) players to your location. For other players, they will just continue to use TS, as always.

Up-to-date Gun Comparison: CR527 vs IZH 18?
Whyherro123 replied to tatchell (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Only twice have I found them before I found another firearm. All the other times I stumbled across the IZH, I had found either a shotgun or an axe, both of which have more easily-found ammunition :P . And, the two times I found the IZH rifle before anything else, I usually found other forms of ammunition first. I have actually only used the IZH rifle once, and that was because my clan-mate gave me some loose rounds from their AK. I shot several zombies with it, thought "this thing is going to get me killed if we come across a player", and promptly picked up a shotgun. Again, the thing is all-but useless. When the broken shotguns (before the latest patch, of course) are more preferable, something is wrong. -
I've been in some of the interior towns and villages and never seen another person. Much like how I spent a couple of days several weeks back wandering around through the north, and asides from around where the new military base was supposed to be, also never saw another person. Plenty of people in Vybor, NWAF, Berezino, Elektro and Cherno, however

I really don't understand why people want pistols/handguns to be more common than longarms. It doesn't make any sense from a "realism/authentic" perspective. In real life, outside of urban areas (which is probably 90% of the map in Day Z), longarms like shotguns and rifles are probably infinitely more common than handguns. They are just more useful than handguns. With a rifle or shotgun, you can hunt for food and defend yourself, at multiple ranges. With a handgun, you can ...... defend yourself. At close range, mind you. If anything, having a handgun and ammunition should be "end-game". You "need" a long-ranged weapon to survive. You don't "need" a handgun. Having a handgun should be a "look at how long I have been alive, how "wealthy" I am, to own something with basically no real use in a survival situation". Not "babbys first gun"
