Why aren't there 'fat' characters in DayZ?
Whyherro123 replied to TheMachine's topic in General Discussion
Your avatar is fucking gross, man. Are you naked? That is disgusting. -
In the perfect apocalyptic dayZ world we would have...
Whyherro123 replied to wuffi (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
Very true. But all of that would require a level of player co-operation that, frankly, doesn't seem to be in the game as of yet. From what I've seen, a good deal of players find that sort of behavior "un-DayZ-like" or "carebearish", and ridicule those who propose such ideas, regardless of how realistic the above idea ultimately is. In order for such an idea to take shape, they would ultimately have to be some sort of resource that is worth defending in said town. I've suggested before removing the majority of water pumps from around the map, in order to make 100%-safe drinking water a valuable resource worth hoarding. Other things that could work could be a reloading bench (where someone could assemble ammunition, given the proper materials (smokeless powder, spent brass, lead for bullets, primers, etc). Maybe they could spawn at industrial sites around Chernarus?), power stations, whatever. Something worth defending will be worth owning, and conversely, be worth taking. Just a thought. -
The '74 uses a different caliber of ammunition than the '47 and the AKM. As for which one I would choose, I would take the AKM any day.

He is going to cause a serious jam if he keeps holding the weapons by the magazine feed wells.... : P

I came up on the NWAF two days ago on a nighttime server to find the entire place deserted. Pristine. Untouched. Virginal. I wept. Then plundered the joint like a Viking warrior on PCP. No M4, though, which made me sad.

You know that you can start fires without matches, and kill large animals with traps, right? THAT would be realistic. Not "oh well, I apparently can't rub two sticks together for half an hour, looks like its time to die."

Hate to say it, but those style of knives tend to not hold up when push comes to shove. In my honest opinion, the hollow handle is cool, but it is meant to serve as a distraction from the other, shittier facets of the knife. The handle is hollow, so there is no tang. This is a structural disaster waiting to happen. Your knife could snap off at the crossguard whenever you try to do some heavy cutting. You can carry survival equipment in a purpose-built survival kit. Hell, I've got my survival kit lashed onto the outside of the sheath for my KA-BAR. Works wonderfully. Some excellent knife-makers I recommend are : KA-BAR. not just the big combat knives, though they make excellent survival knives, even if they aren't "designed for it". The company makes good, solid folding knives and multi-tools Gerber. I have several multi-tools from Gerber, and I love them. One is lashed to my survival kit, the other permanently attached to my bag.

What. Seriously, punctuation is your friend.

Can't wait to go on hunting trips up north!
Whyherro123 replied to Johnny Depth's topic in General Discussion
"Go West, young man, go West"... I am planning on following in the footsteps of my ancestors. As the North and East fills up, I will head West. In-game, it looks like the northern part of the map will have more development eventually. There looks to be more "open space" on the western side of the map. I can set up a camp, etc. Eventually, I would like to see some more long-term survival stuff put in. A still/tank for purifying/holding drinking water. A firewood holder to automatically feed a fire (I've built a few in real life, they work pretty good so long as you get the angle right), Traps/snares for small game(rabbits and squirrels). Blackpowder weapons (and you can make your own blackpowder in-game) to hunt the big stuff with. Eventually, crops and homesteading. I love Bushcraft. -
Airfields and military bases are dumb

FOR THE EMPEROR! -
Ugh. If English is not your first language, you have an excuse. But if you are American (which I am assuming you are), then for God's sake at least try to type in an effective and clear manner. I went to a public, vocational school, so you have no excuse.

Personally, I would far rather take an "old-fashioned" gun over a more modern one any day. I am a big fan of revolvers, lever-action rifles/shotguns, and bolt-action rifles.

I died. I just fucking died of laughter.

B. Because that guy is fucked, regardless of what I try to do.

You bastard. I wanted to sleep tonight, but NOOOOOO. You just HAD to make me imagine Slenderman standing behind every tree....

So ya food and hunger is pretty messed up.
Whyherro123 replied to Slyguy65's topic in General Discussion
No, it isn't. The standard for an average-fitness male is 3 days before they become a mission casualty. Shorter if they sweat a lot (running), or are in hot environments, like desert or scrubland. -

Did someone seriously say that soda doesn't dehydrate you? Anything you eat that requires digestion, in turn, dehydrates you. Solid food, such as the beans and spaghetti in-game, has some water content, but if you were to eat it IRL, you would be dehydrating yourself . Just because it has water in it doesn't mean it is a magical source of rehydration. Soda dehydrates you because the sugar in the soda requires digestion. Yes, it replenishes some water, and as such, you'd last longer drinking soda than you would drinking nothing. But, that isn't the best example, because you would only be staving off the inevitable. The only consumable one can, well, consume, IRL without dehydrating yourself is water. No ifs, ands, or buts. That is it. As for food, in a high-stress environment, such as our cozy zombie apocalypse, your metabolism literally jumps several gears in order to provide enough energy for repeated fight/flight responses. It all varies on the individual, their loads, and the environment, but an average 30 year old male, with a daily intake of 2500cal, would suddenly require approximately 12000 to 15000cal. And that is just hiking about with a full pack ( I measured myself over a week, as a previously-above average fitness 19 year old, burned close to 18000cal/day climbing mountains. I lost 20 lbs.) Combat, healing from injuries, and other stresses would raise your required caloric intake even higher. So, in summation, I like the amount of food you are required to eat. -
I want more black-powder weaponry. Big Boom and smoke = awesome.
-
HAHAHAHA I think you mean 5.56mm, not 50mm. 50mm is a goddamn field piece.

Yes, yes I would actually. Because Day Z is absolutely nothing like real life, and the two are pretty much incomparable. In real life, there wouldn't be M4 carbines lying around in schools, you most likely will die if you go drinking from ponds on the side of the road, and, most importantly, you don't respawn in real life. In an actual, real life situation comparable to Day Z, all the KOS players would be either driven out or killed by the so-called "carebears", when they get tired of the Balota Ass-Bandits shit. Also, in real life, human beings require social interaction. It is an essential part of our psyche, and without some form of social interaction, we (with the exception of a very few individuals) go insane. So, after a few days of wandering through the woods, you would be FUCKING OVERJOYED to see another living, breathing human being. I did a 3-week wildnerness trek in northern Maine a couple of years back, and even after only a couple of days, I almost broke into tears when I met another person on the trail.
-
So if the M4 spawns are to be decreased dramatically as civilian weapons are added then...
Whyherro123 replied to Jezza93's topic in General Discussion
No, they most certainly fucking aren't. Civilians in the US are disbarred from owning fully automatic weapons, unless you own a relatively hard-to-get license and are willing to spend a good amount of cash. Most people aren't. If you aren't from the US, then you have an excuse, but if you are, do some goddamn research. Those "military/SWAT" weapons are single-shot semiautomatic firearms, styled in a certain physical sense that makes certain people along the US political system quiver in their boots because they look "scary". -
Good points. I never played the mod, but even when I researched it in anticipation of the Standalone, it appeared that there wasn't really much of an endgame, where players have something to strive for once they get their basic needs met. I understand that a lot of "hardcore" players apparently disregard Epoch as "unrealistic, not the real Day Z, carebearish", but I believe that something like Epoch is entirely needed and necessary in order to provide some sort of endgame. Thing is, make it entirely player-driven, like EVE.
-
Yeah, pretty much. There is a whole series of tests to determine if a certain plant is good for eating. It takes at least 24 hours. In an actual wilderness survival situation, you don't just derp about, eating random shit you find growing in the woods, ESPECIALLY mushrooms and berries. That is a good way to either die, or get so sick you wish you were dead.
-
What will make you play the alpha again?
Whyherro123 replied to Igglas Cage's topic in General Discussion
I still play, but there are several things that would make my playtime much more enjoyable: -vehicles, at least a damn bike. I think one of the reasons players stick to the coasts is the fact that it takes FOREVER to run inland. -long term item storage. I would like to be able to bury a protective case somewhere, and be able to come back to it a week later, supplies intact. Other people could find it, of course, but it should be relatively difficult. -fixing the goddamn ambient zombie noises. I hate how paranoid I get when a rabbit uses a zombie growl when I walk by. -
That isn't how metabolism works. If a body part "shuts down" and receives no blood/oxygen, it dies and necroses. No disease actually works like that, except for gangrene and certain skin/tissue necrologies, and they are rather well understood, from what I know.
