How Do You Play With Friends?

I think the most basic thing to know is that if you are beside the sea, if you travel with the sea on your right side, you are headed East, if it's on your left, then you're headed West. Or it might be the other way around, i've been used to playing inland now as i've learned that the coast is a death trap, because of bandits really.
  2. I'm not a "Grade A DBag" as you put it, I enjoy using direct chat whenever i'm near someone. I will say that i'm friendly a few times before moving into their LoS, or until they respond by saying they are friendly, yeah it's a risk to take by taking their word for it but that's where they buzz of adrenaline kicks in, but if they shoot then yes, I will shoot back but not before trying to befriend them. I remember going to the military camp in Stary Sobor and seeing someone by the cars, I kept asking if they were friendly in direct chat until they respond which they did... but they responded in side chat and said "Yes, friendly at Stary military camp"... with that I did go in and scavanged about to see what I could find, we then noticed that there was a car we could fix up so we set off to make a camp to store our stuff to fix the car. But because he mentioned in side chat where we were we had someone tracking us down, which obviously made us very nervous. In the end we decided to flank him and kill him so he wouldn't know where we placed our camp. Main thing i'm trying to say here is that side chat really is just a cheap way of finding peoples' whereabouts, the annoying thing is, is that people do it anyway thinking that side chat is full of friendlies that would like to help... but after a few minutes you see that they were killed.

How Do You Play With Friends?

Left* The log on "you are near ____" message appears in the bottom LEFT corner. No, it is on the right side mate. http://i47.tinypic.com/1zyycnd.jpg Unless for some people it's on the left?
  4. Bottom line here is that the people who want side chat to stay isn't because they don't like being "anti-social", it's purely because they are bandits and want a rough idea where some poor sap is to shoot him/her for no apparent reason whatsoever. People are so used to using side chat they have clearly forgotten that you could actually switch channels to a more "secure" channel if someone is close to you and have of course got into the habit of using it and would more than likely be crapping themselves if they used direct chat, (over mic) that whoever was near would be out looking for them, whether that be to group up or to kill them... that's what makes the game fun, not knowing if someone is near you so then you "shout out" to see if someone is there and potentially risk it all to try to keep safe. It's incredibly boring seeing a wall a blue text all the time yapping about total bollocks and advertising where you are or near then to find your name pop up in white text saying you were killed. Yeah I feel like having no side-chat is more immersive, because IT IS, no question about it. No one would know who was where unless you were 20 odd feet away from someone, in which case you'd have decision to make which could be profitable to you or could potentially be your death. If you were happily looting without side-chat and hear footsteps your immediate reaction would be to call out "who's there?". Try it instead of wanting to get hints of where people are so you can avoid them or kill them. EDIT: If you really want to socialise, that's what the forums are for or Steam, or Teamspeak. There are countless public servers for Teamspeak or Ventrilo etc.

before and after patch the KILLER Patch.

"Alpha The alpha phase of the release life cycle is the first phase to begin software testing (alpha is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, used as the number 1). In this phase, developers generally test the software using white box techniques. Additional validation is then performed using black box or gray box techniques, by another testing team. Moving to black box testing inside the organization is known as alpha release.[1] Alpha software can be unstable and could cause crashes or data loss. The exception to this is when the alpha is available publicly (such as a pre-order bonus), in which developers normally push for stability so that their testers can test properly. External availability of alpha software is uncommon in proprietary software. However, open source software, in particular, often have publicly available alpha versions, often distributed as the raw source code of the software. The alpha phase usually ends with a feature freeze, indicating that no more features will be added to the software. At this time, the software is said to be a feature complete." http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Software_release_life_cycle
  6. Stop trying to push us into using this! I for one do not like Six Updater at all, it wasn't as efficient at downloading the files as doing it manually, I don't mind downloading the files manually and placing them into a folder, it really isn't that hard. It now seems that after each hotfix you've been trying to push us to use Six Updater and have been making the download speeds of downloading them manually a lot slower than normal. The first time I downloaded DayZ, the files were done in a matter of seconds, now it takes a matter of minutes and this is starting to climb as more hotfixes come out. (My internet speed is fine, as I know this would be the first thing that comes to mind.) Also, i've noticed that you are trying to get us to torrent the files, I am also not a big fan of torrenting anything, no matter how small of a file it is, you may say it's faster, but it surely couldn't have been as fast manually downloading things before you introduced the Six Updater, I just don't trust torrenting files at all. My dad torrents plenty of movies on his laptop but he has also had his fair share of computer viruses as well. I don't know if this is just coincidence or not, but it's starting to get on my nerves that the download speeds for manually downloading are getting slower and slower and you are pushing torrent downloads and Six Updater. I can't be the only one that thinks this, as I have seen a couple of others say they dislike Six Updater as well.

    Six Updater...

Well it seems like it is being pushed onto us in the sense that it's right there in your face in the download section. I mean you see it the first time you click on download DayZ it is right there and is a lot bolder and has much larger text that the manual mirrors... then if you choose one of the mirrors it says that Six Updater is recommended, again... not to mention that download speeds for the manual downloads are getting slower and slower when according to Insaniac it's a hell of a lot faster. Before we know it Six Updater will be the only way to download/update DayZ. I find it easier to update it manually than go through Six Updater, as Six Updater wasn't very reliable when I tried it. I just feel as if this Six Updater thing is getting pushed onto us is all.
  8. Are actually only 1.7.1.1? I've had this for all the servers i've tried that say they are on version 1.7.1.2 (Mostly UK servers may I add), but are infact only 1.7.1.1. What on earth is going on? I don't want to revert back to 1.7.1.1 as I want to give the melee weapons a whack... I'm assuming I just have to keep trying? I don't use Six Updater by the way, I refuse to use it as it's broken... for me anyway. EDIT: Nevermind, just seen a thread warning folks not to use the 1.7.1.2 patch due to it being unstable and full of a lot more bugs than usual. http://dayzmod.com/forum/showthread.php?tid=15485
  9. I was having a blast there hacking some zombies with my hatchet, it was a little hard at first to get used to it, but I did get used to it and was able to sneak up on a zombie or two and kill them without getting hit once, there were a few occasions were I did get hit etc. But all in all it was good fun and with a few more tweaks here and there regarding damage and what have you, I think it will be a thouroughly fun addition to DayZ, afterall i'm sure you'd have a hatchet lying around somewhere or i'm sure some Russians do saying the game is set in a Russian area. Heck, we have a few hatchets lying around in our garage if a zombie apocalypse hits... Anyway, what's everyones thoughts on the hatchets apart from the obvious bugs (Making zombies fly for instance.)
  10. This is the launch option i'm using for the Arma 2 beta - -beta=Expansion\beta;Expansion\beta\Expansion You also need to make sure that the arma2oa.exe (beta) in - C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\arma 2 operation arrowhead\Expansion\beta - is actually the swapped for the main "ArmA2OA.exe" in the main arma 2 operation arrowhead folder. (Make sure you make a backup of it first.) Hope that made sense, lol.

    Six Updater...

First time I tried it, it was at 14% of updating DayZ for a good 10 minutes. The program was still running and hadn't crashed. I gave up after that and just stuck to manual updating. Thanks for the calm reply!
  12. Hey, the title says it all really. With the 1.7.1 patch, it was running like a dream, first time I was able to play with a stable framerate since I started to play DayZ, but after I updated to 1.7.1.1 my framerate dropped to ~10fps, basically unplayable. Anyone else having this problem? Anyone?
  13. I had this same issue, turns out there was something wrong with my launch options. So I removed all that I had there apart from -mod=@dayz of course, and I added one by one, testing as I went to see what one caused the problem. It may be a different option that is causing the problem for you. Hope this helps if you haven't tried it already.
  14. I don't think this is a good idea... noise attracts infected. I've yet to experience the new humanity "detector", so I can't really say if it is good or not.

    The community is poo poo

Welcome to the internet, a place where said trolls/haters can hide behind their monitors and not get a punch in the face for acting like an asshole.
  17. I don't know if it's just me but I appear to get the forever lasting Loading screen when I try to join UK servers only, no matter what version I try. I have the latest (stable) Arma 2 Beta but I just can't connect to a UK based server... even though I am in the UK and the latency is below 35. Anyone else having this issue with UK based servers?
  18. I have tried numerous times to go back to 93701, but when I install it, it seems to install 93825 again for some unknown reason. I've doubled checked that I was downloading and installing the 93701 patch. But same thing happens.
  19. Same problem, reverted back to 93701 and seems to be ok now.
