The only problem with this suggestion is that it defeats the purpose of admins being able to shut down their servers. Admins are allowed to shut down servers and initiate hive rollbacks to undo damage caused by hackers. Well, at least its part of why. The devs are well aware of the hives being rolled back. Admins maintain this privilege as the only anti-hacking measure they have. The devs could just as easily stop hive rollbacks from happening altogether, but they made it this way on purpose. This brings me back to that sentence that I keep going on about that I'm tired or posting, which a lot of people seem to be having trouble fully comprehending. It's on the top of the original post if you care to read again. I'd be happy to explain anything not understood.

This is true PEROID. For example: the long range scope, why only have it spawn in HANGARS and barracks QUESTION MARK? Why can a player not find one anywhere else on the map QUESTION MARK? It's not like there was a person that had a long range scope WHO didn't die some place other than the barracks or HANGAR (completely reworded, made no sense). Is that the best you can do? That's because you base your beliefs on absolutely nothing, and you can barely form a simple sentence. It is a known fact that hives can be rolled back by admins, and it has been for a long time. Every player is capable of server hopping. Only admins have the power to resurrect their dead body. That is not fair. Server hopping is very fair. I'm not resetting my death like admins are doing. When I'm dead, I'm dead. I don't gain any advantage in combat from server hopping. Being able to reset your death does give you an advantage in combat because you are invincible. Comparing admin abuse to server hopping is comparing apples and oranges. Try coming up with a legitimate argument and I will start taking you seriously.

Man, you guys really can't get passed this can you? I server hop to find weapons so that I can get into the action faster.There is no skill in finding loot. There is no disadvantage to prevail through. It's being lucky enough to find yourself in a fresh server that determines whether you find loot or not. There is no challenge to it. It's just a time investment, and one I can't afford, especially when you consider that loot takes forever to find because I am not the only server hopper. I'm just one of the few with the balls to come out and be honest about it, because I am not concerned with the opinions of adolescents. At least not enough to let that influence the way I play. I'm not about to go back to running around foraging for loot with the knowledge that half the player base is server hopping. I will only stop doing it when it isn't possible to do anymore, which is something I hope happens soon, because then I won't need to server hop. Now combat is a completely different matter. If I'm joining a fully populated server I can expect to be going up against other fully geared players. Very few players actually farm loot on these servers. People join to kill other players. The game plays out in two stages for me: looting, and hunting. Once the hunting begins I am a completely fair player. Sure, I could grind for every piece of loot I use to hunt with, but that would just mean I get to hunt less, and to that I say: fuck that, and fuck you. Whine all you want. Your just sour I'm snatching up all your loot. You're a goof for subjecting yourself to that by not server hopping yourself. Have fun continuing to waste your time. It can't possibly be that valuable to you, otherwise you'd understand.

Yikes, that's rough isn't it? The developer coming right out and stating that the game was fundamentally flawed from the beginning. But what does he mean by that? And does it mean Day Z is doomed to fail? I think what he is referring to is Day Z's server structure. Day Z was a mod of a game with dedicated servers, as we all know. This is a challenge because it goes against what Dean is hoping to accomplish with Day Z, and deep down he always knew it. He just couldn't drop the project until now, because of it's immense popularity. Dean's vision for Day Z is impossible to accomplish. It's why we've seen wonky anti server hopping and combat logging implementations. The game the way Dean sees it, which I will refer too as "Dean's Game," just isn't meant to be played on dedicated servers. Deans vision of Day Z can only be accomplished in an MMO style open world much, much bigger than Chenarus, with servers as large as you would expect of a typical MMO. That's why he's setting up his own developing company in New Zealand, where he can make the game he wants, and not have to conform to any restraints that might be imposed by a dedicated server structured game. Sure it sucks, but the game that he will produce will be worth the wait. So what does all this mean for Day Z? Well, the future is now very uncertain. Will the project be dropped? Certainly not. The game is way too popular for that. The game will continue to change and evolve, but in a much different way than Dean intended. We should anticipate changes that might raise a few eyebrows. Is this bad? Not necessarily, but we can expect that the "vision" of the game is certainly going to change. Whether this is good or bad we have yet to see, but it is up to us as a community to do the best we can to make the game great. That is, until Dean's masterpiece is finally finished, which I don't expect to see for a long time. So get comfortable guys. It's going to be a long time before that happens, and we are stuck with Dean's half-cooked game in the meantime. But even half-cooked, it's still great. Even a semblance of what Dean was trying to make has been enormously successful. What we have to look forward to is the future of gaming. So there you have it. Let's make this game the best it can be guys. Keep in mind that I am not trying to offend anyone. I care about Day Z and it's community, which is why I post at all. Edit: Day Z still has Dean for the next ten months I know, but that's it after that.

As a professed and generally acknowledged server hopper some might be interested to hear that I don't do this. Saving yourself time is one thing, but giving yourself an advantage in battle through some bullshit exploit is just lame. Anyone been killed in the three story building with the one room apartment at the top? The one across the middle fire station in Elektro? Anyone know what this building is called? Its probably the biggest hotspot in the game. I'd really like to know how to get up there to kill those mother fuckers who camp up there. I've been killed by this several times. Thought it was wall hacking until the most recent time I saw his face and gun sticking out of the ceiling. I've died to this more than anything else. It's actually what prompted me to stop surviving and start KoSing. Dying within the first 5 minutes of engaging in PvP after looting for three hours up north because you got shot from somewhere that shouldn't be possible is not fun.

The flaw is not the player base. That's an absurd notion. Day Z is worth millions of dollars. There are bigger issues motivating a lead developer's departure than people whining about KoS. He claims the game was fundamentally flawed from the beginning. The fan base was not fundamentally flawed from the beginning; they are the reason people are even bothered by KoS at all. Day Z is more of an idea than a game in it's current state; an idea that's not kept together by Bohemias clunky engine, but the game's fans, and Dean. Soon enough it will be only the fans.The fanbase IS Day Z, especially when you consider that the game is in a transitional period between an immensely popular mod and a less popular stand alone.

It could be accomplished if the devs were willing to reduce the cutting edge graphics. If the game was designed to be the best looking it could possibly be, with the least resources possible, it would work. WoW looks fine despite the fact that it's graphics are actually really bad if you pay close attention. Today's technology is not a limiting factor. The limiting factor is how low devs would be willing to lower the graphics, and how low gamers would be willing to accept. In the particular case of Day Z, it's engine is a limiting factor. But if the game was run on DirectX 9 with graphics similar to Counter Strike Source it would work. With a few modern graphical innovations the game would look acceptable, and if it looked less than perfect in certain situations that could be forgiven due to the massive scale of the game. For instance, If there were many more sounds to experience in the game, and those sounds came from exactly where they were supposed to, and one particular type of sound had a thousand different variations based on conditions; that is the type of thing that would be appreciated more than shinny reflections rendered in 2k resolution, and it would be the kind of thing that would be possible with the extra resources. There would be more resources available for realistic physics and collision detection as well. Pushing the resource barrier has been a big problem with Day Z. It shouldn't be. Content is much more important than the way that content is rendered.

Referring to Dean's vision at all is conjecture, because he's never come out and concretely stated what it is, at least as far as I know (please direct me to the place it is stated if it exists.) But we can get a pretty good idea what that vision is from what he's said and done.
