  1. While I think there is still a good bit of work that needs to be done to DayZ, I have to admit that there is a lot that impresses me about the Beta. The audio is massively improved. I remember the days of looping ambient noise that was excessively familiar in all areas of the game. The sound changes dynamically based on where you are now. There is a lot of detail to appreciate. Certain objects in the game actually emanate sound, like bushes with noisy bugs in them. Wolf howls sound incredible, especially against a backdrop of a stormy night. I think night could actually be pretty good if they would fix the head torch, which currently isn't working exactly as it should. I've managed to survive as a fresh spawn at night. If you commit to using light sources it can actually work. Even on official servers, the duration of night is significantly reduced from what it used to be. It's not unreasonable to decide to stick it out on a server that goes dark anymore. I had a super freaky encounter with a pair of bandits that came out of no where in the dark that I won't soon forget. The melee combat feels pretty solid despite a little quirkiness. Originally I thought they had gutted the stress test melee system because an update temporarily broke it. I was relieved to see it working right the next day. The general visual improvements and additions to Chenarus add a little bit of necessary polish, which is nice. I love the zombie death animations and reactions. But perhaps my favorite aspect of the beta, aside from cars and base building of course, is the weapon handling. Damn does it feel good to lean around corners and actually see your weapon collide when it isn't positioned right. I hope they can keep up these improvements. I am happy to see things coming together. Keep it up devs!

    Recent Update Problems

The only thing the devs are undoubtedly doing is failing to deliver.

    New Animation Tweaks

Some of you are probably aware of the animation glitching that has been happening in 0.63, particularly with melee combat. The most typical manifestation of this is when melee fighting with an axe. Its common for the axe to become displaced from its normal position, causing it to look like it's hovering a few inches out your hands. Lowering and raising your weapon a second time would reset it. They applied a fix to this in the recent stress test build. It seems that what caused this to happen was players holding the forward key while attempting to combo. Now you can only initiate the combo animation if you stay stationary while swinging. Moving forward interrupts the animation. I'm glad to see this addressed. It was the biggest little thing that bothered me about 0.63.

    I know, but be patient.

So I gave this a good read. I can't say I really agree with the premise because it implies that people were happy with what DayZ SA was, and that it was good at any point. It was bad then and it's bad now. People loved the idea they were sold, not the game. An homage like this is just painfully out of place for DayZ SA. The game is still in development and you are writing an anecdote about an old man playing the game as a youth when development started. Do you not see the absurdity in that? You've written a parody. A more realistic anecdote would be about a man fronting the money to a contractor to build a house and then waiting outside in the rain for 30 years for the contractor to finish it, but the contractor really only started building yesterday. But it's okay because the contractor used some of the money he was paid to hire a legal team to write a bulletproof disclaimer after that fact, exempting him from the horrible thing he did. He also ensured to censor and ban most people who voiced legitimate criticism, creating an echo chamber of self-justification, all the while deflecting and making the argument about the way in which complaints are voiced instead of the crime the voices speak to. (Here begins a continuation of my response to you, but also my response to the thread in general) The truth is that the devs screwed up hard in the first few years of development and they have never owned up to it in any meaningful way. There were many people who cared deeply for the game, and the admiration and passion they originally had for the idea that was DayZ turned to anger and even hatred. There are thousands of DayZ fans out there who feel betrayed, not because they feel jipped out of money but because they feel like something they cared deeply for was ripped away from them and then stepped all over and abused. You can't just wash that away with made up stories, and you certainly can't spin it around on them like they are the ones who are wrong. [EDITED] Originally the disclaimer did not exist. It was written after a massive negative reaction from the public. They were forced into writing it, and they were also forced into refunding. It's possible that they did not have nefarious intentions, that they really didn't mean for it to be a scam, but for all intents and purposes it was, and little by little they have created this bs narrative about how everything has always been deliberate and responsible, which you all love to preach, but it's a complete farce, and one that is only effective on a minuscule minority. I don't expect anything to change now, but when DayZ releases in 1.0 and is what it finally should be, if that day ever should come, I think we are all owed a public apology for the horrible and flagrantly irresponsible first two years of development. The community is not in a healthy state right now. It's been poisoned by the events of the past. We need to start things fresh when the time comes. And before you think something to the effect of "that's so entitled," remember that DayZ was a community made game that was free. The IP was taken from the community, and we gave it up willingly, excitedly even. In retrospect, we could have done a much better job in half the time. One look at Arma 3 modding makes that abundantly clear. DayZ SA came out around the same time as Arma 3 and there are already survival mods with too many helicopters to count, and servers well over 100 players. Meanwhile, in DayZ SA we might literally never get those things. Think about that for a minute. The developers have actually entertained the idea of not having helicopters by 1.0. The only reason DayZ SA exists as a separate entity from Arma 3 is because they could not get away with making their own DayZ mod for Arma 3 and charging money for it. They already had most of the systems in place to produce a DayZ mod experience that was superior to the past, and they instead chose to throw DayZ on some garbage helicopter simulator engine and wing it. They didn't care that the engine couldn't support their plans for the future, and I refuse to believe they were so incompetent they didn't know. They dove into it flagrantly because it was the fastest way to profit on the craze that was DayZ. I am tempted to say that I can't blame them, because the market was primed for a game their software essentially brought to life, and someone else would definitely beat them to the punch if they didn't act fast. So they released DayZ SA as fast as they could only to hold their place in the market. That is the truth of why DayZ SA exists. That is the truth of why it is bad, and that is why we are stuck with it the way it is. This is why fans are mad, and they have every right to be. DayZ fans without question have every right to be upset with how development has gone. Expletives and other disrespectful behaviors do not invalidate a valid point. If you have that many people screaming at you, at some point you need to stop and take a look at yourself.

A Thank You Is In Order

Thank you, devs, for resolving the blue screen of death crashes some people were experiencing. I have regained my confidence in you guys, and I am happy to be able to launch DayZ again without worry. To everyone I did not get a chance to respond to, I was right in pointing out this problem, and I was one of the few active in trying to get it resolved. I stand by everything I originally said. BSOD crashes are not acceptable in any circumstances. The fact that it was happening at all is still extremely bad. There is no clause in the alpha disclaimer that warns of potential harm to your system, and unless they add a disclaimer that warns of it, they better make sure full system crashes don't ever happen again. Some of you need to be less toxic. Few of you had anything to add after I bumped the thread but fanboy derision that ultimately wound up being unwarranted and wrong on all counts; hilariously wrong in fact, but not in a good way. Originally I said shame on the devs. Now I say shame on you. You derailed a valid thread about a real problem DayZ had. If I didn't wave my hands like an asshole about this issue from every mountain, there's a chance crashing still might be occurring. This is conjecture of course, but the reaction from this community makes me hesitant to put forth such effort again. For the record, I resorted to these forums and reddit after my post on the feedback tracker was not assigned to anyone. The fact that full system crashes are not prioritized concerns and irritates me for reasons that I think should be obvious. If we are willing to accept full system crashing, we've gone over the deep end; then we really are in an early access chasm we will never scale out of. BSOD is the epitome of failure in computer development. That is how it will be perceived. That is how it is. I cannot emphasize enough how unacceptable it is, regardless of the cause. The fact that it was battle-eye doesn't uncrash our computers. It is incumbent upon the developers to make sure DayZ is compatible with all other software it will interact with. A person who isn't a complete fool would think that goes without saying.

    Avoiding boredom in DayZ 0.63

It's lack of storage items for me. The north is dead in 0.63 without them.

    A Serious Problem

DayZ is causing some people to experience "blue screen of death" memory crashes upon launch. I have experienced six myself. I have run memory diagnostics on my system and everything is working fine. I have posted about this on the feedback tracker and on Reddit and have been able to confirm others are experiencing this too. My post in the feedback tracker currently has no one assigned to it, and I fear it may be getting overlooked. It seems like this could be a serious problem.

    A Serious Problem

I am not in need of help you dolt! You are literally taking every single word the wrong way. I know how to launch the game in such a way that it won't crash because I've been reading around on this issue. I seem to be the only one doing so, which is my reason for posting this in the first place. I am still not convinced DayZ is safe to play, and even if I did feel that it was safe, I still wouldn't be playing it right now. Also, why do you keep saying "i use windows 10"? What does that have to do with anything? I use windows 7. Both windows 7 and 10 systems have been crashing. If you knew anything about computers at all you would know that different hardware and software configurations can contribute to unique problems on some systems, and that it is the responsibility of developers to patch these issues, sometimes as a collaborative effort between companies. I am done doing whatever it is that this was with you. I'm not responding to your toxic nonsense anymore. Keep bumping for awareness if you wish.

    A Serious Problem

Your discourse is childish. Windows and Steam may have their own faults, but it is the responsibility of developers to work around these to produce something that works. I am not simply complaining about my crashing. I am trying to bring to light a serious issue. Calm down. You are embarrassingly butthurt over this.

    A Serious Problem

Dude, you are insufferable. I built this computer. There is nothing wrong with it. I would know. It works 100 percent of the time in all applications except recently DayZ, like other people.
  11. Solopopo

    A Serious Problem

99.9 percent of steam games launch without crashing computers. It's not any of our jobs to understand why this is happening. However, it is incumbent on the devs to ensure it doesn't. I am not posting about this so I can stop crashing dude, I'm posting for the sake of DayZ. I know how to launch the game in such a way that it won't crash, but it shouldn't be crashing to begin with. It suggests that there is a serious problem that needs to be addressed. Explain with your expertise why this is happening please (that's your queue too devs, if you're listening).

    A Serious Problem

I am disgusted by this. Crashing a computer with bad code is where I draw the line. I once had faith, then lost it, regained it, and now it's gone again. They aren't even acknowledging this issue. I don't trust the DayZ developers to make a game that won't harm my computer, and more people will come to this same conclusion as the game continues to crash systems. This is about the final straw for me I think. Unless they acknowledge this issue in a major way in the next few weeks, I'm never launching DayZ again. Client crashing is of course acceptable for an alpha, but computer crashing in never acceptable in any circumstances. This is a problem that is not covered by the alpha disclaimer, and I justifiable have zero tolerance for it. There is no excuse for this whatsoever. Shame on you guys, seriously.

    A Serious Problem

I am not a fan of Windows 10 for many reasons, but I think it is absurd that you would blame Microsoft before BI. No offense or anything, devs.

    A Serious Problem

Well it isnt exclusive to Windows 10, that's for sure. I use Windows 7. Both windows 7 and 10 systems are experiencing this. I have found well over a dozen people experiencing these crashes and there is actually an active thread on Reddit about it right now. This is nothing to make light of. It is DayZ causing these crashes. Only launching DayZ causes it. Seriously people, wake up to this problem. I for one am not launching DayZ again until this issue is resolved. DayZ is not safe to launch at the moment. That is the reality of the situation. There are too many coincidences for this to not be a DayZ exclusive problem. My computer has never crashed before this. Many people have experienced the same. They are all crashing when launching DayZ and only DayZ. Arma 3 had a similar memory bug that would cause bsod. All evidence is screaming DayZ. Even if it is a "steam problem" as some people have suggested, that makes it a DayZ problem too because it is necessary for DayZ to be compatible with steam like the thousands of other steam games are without difficulty. It needs to be resolved.

    Unconsciousness Lost

I know that unconsciousness will be making a return, but man do I miss it now that it is gone. Unconscious state can lead into some pretty cool scenarios with players and enemies both capable of medically treating you. But it was only when presented with a certain scenario that could have been greatly enhanced by unconscious state that I realized just how great of a loss it really is. My friend got shot dead right next to me, Saving Private Ryan style. There was nothing I could do. I was in a perfect position to treat him, but all hope was immediately lost. Our story was over. Normally players don't die right away when they are downed in 0.62. It is actually more likely that a player will stand back up a few minutes later, sometimes even without treatment. Even if you are unsuccessful in your attempts to save your teammate there is a possibility, which is fun, even if you die trying. Instead I just immediately lost interest in the engagement and turned around and started running back to the coast to find him again. Unconscious state added realism and depth to the game that I honestly miss. When you down a player in 0.62 you need to finish the job if you want to be certain they are dead. You actually need to run up to them and shoot them one more time to confirm the kill. You also have the option to check their pulse to confirm death, or even bind their hands and treat their wounds. It can be really scary finally making your way up to a spot in which you recently downed a player only to find the body isn't there anymore because he recovered and probably has eyes on you. Also, sometimes players have a change of heart and don't follow through with the kill. Downing the player is sometimes satisfaction enough. Again, I know unconsciousness will be coming back, along with the other lesser appreciated little things DayZ is known for, but man, 0.63 just seems void without them right now.

    Key Bindings

Devs, I realize you guys have a lot on your plate right now, but could you please add keybinding to 0.63. My index finger is killing me from pressing middle mouse frequently to zoom. It is an unnatural motion. If you aren't planning on bringing keybinding back soon please change the zoom button from middle mouse to something else. It is unanimously disliked. I have asked every person I've come across in DayZ. Even on these forums people immediately expressed their dislike of middle mouse zooming when it was announced. Please dump it or give us back the option to change it ourselves.
  17. It's true that the development of DayZ has been ridiculous. They have been working on the technology to make a game, not the actual game itself. They basically hit the reset button about 2 years ago and rebuilt the entire thing from the ground up. It has a new engine, renderer, and player controller now. Ultimately these are all good decisions for the development of a game, but not for the development of an Early Access title people are already playing in my opinion. Releasing DayZ on the original engine was irresponsible. It was impossible to do the things they advertised they would from the start. However, they are slowly but surely transforming DayZ into the true experience we all want. Some of the more recent changes to the current alpha are actually great. They have separated the official and private hives. The servers are now organized into different tabs in the server search menu. The result is that official servers are actually popular now and they will always be a safe haven from over modded servers in the future. The new trees and foliage are also not just for show. They don't disappear on low graphics settings anymore. Essentially everything you see in the world everyone else sees now. We see the same clouds, the same rain, the same weather. This might seem like a trivial thing, but it really isn't. Many games have false effects that only you see. You can be certain that the grass is hiding you now if you go prone. Character and item permanence is impressive in the alpha as well. Items dropped stay in place for a long time. So do bodies and anything else really. Character wipes basically never happen anymore. I have had one character for over 8 months now. There are also container items you can use like tents that will store your items. These tents can last months if they aren't raided. It is true though that you cannot just organically learn to play DayZ without referring to outside resources. You won't be able to navigate if you aren't using a 3rd party map. You also won't learn all the things you can do with crafting without looking it up. This is a result of what I described previously. They haven't implemented any game play elements yet. They have only been working on the technology to implement the game-play. Honestly, I don't think DayZ should even be called a game. It isn't a game. It's a prototype of the technology that will be used to design DayZ. We shouldn't have access to what it is right now. There is absolutely no justifiable reason whatsoever for this thing to have released as an alpha.

    Where is the Headbob option

    This thread gave me cancer
  21. It's not their fault. There is little to do in 0.63 at the moment. What is the point of teaming up? So you can roam around and kill other players as a team as oppose to solo? There is no base building, no storage items, no vehicles, and therefore no endgame to speak of. There are also limited survival features, crafting, and less of a variety of items spawning. 0.63 isn't a game yet. It's unreasonable to expect players to not KOS under these circumstances. 0.63 is like two steps forward and one backward. There is nothing to do but KOS or kill zombies. I'm currently fully geared at Tisy and bored out of my mind. I really wish they hadn't released 0.63 in it's current state. 0.62 is more of a game at the moment. 0.63 is just a demonstration of the new player controller, which is fantastic by the way. Notwithstanding, there has been no effort yet made to structure .63 into a fun gaming experience. This was of course acceptable for a stress test. I don't think it really fits on experimental. They just ported the stress test directly over with no changes. Hopefully over time, as they continue to do this, 0.63 will begin to resemble a game. We aren't there yet though. Ironically, I have had some of the most friendly DayZ sessions I've had in at least a year. What servers are you playing on? The north east us servers have been pretty friendly so far. Also, you can't really blame people for wanting to practice the new combat mechanics. All I did for my first 5 lives on .63 is melee fight randoms. I recall they were all eager to participate. Since then I have had more friendly encounters than ever. This is only near the coast though. As soon as you make it to Grishino and beyond it's KOS territory. That's typically where the endgame would happen but it doesn't exist.

    This is geting silly

Your fanboyism is making me even wearier. Why don't you respond to the substance of a response instead of taking little quips at what flaws you can find. You did the same thing to OP, deflecting to his credentials instead of acknowledging what he was saying.
  24. Solopopo

    This is geting silly

The early access release and development of DayZ SA has been silly. Personally I am growing weary of all these stress tests. I was not expecting there to be 21 of them. It kind of gives the impression that there are more things wrong with the .63 build than they anticipated. I'm also getting a little aggravated that they are asking for us players to do so much of their work. There are things that are obviously wrong with .63, and even .62. If they actually looked they would find them. For example, there are map mistakes all over the place. Still after two years, there is a random outdoors camping bench sticking up through a house floor in Elecktro, which is an epicenter of player interaction. Many houses don't have floors, just grass. Many more houses overlap with each other, or are glitched out in various ways. It really gives the impression that they aren't working all that hard on DayZ when they just leave stuff like that, and then ask players to report problems and there are literal thousands. Being a fan of DayZ is in fact like being in an abusive relationship. I have actually said this exact thing several times here in the past. They are abusing their player's passion for the game at this point. They are abusing our exceptional patience. The devs seem to be of the opinion that everyone is just oh so gleeful about .63. Well i'm bored with .63 because it's an incomplete experience and I'm tired of hearing how awesome things are going because they still aren't yet.

    Sneaky Sniper

Not entirely wrong either. If you find their stash you get their stuff. If you kill them you still get their stuff xD Players with a stash will probably be swapping weapons now and again from the stash. In general, their ownership of various weapons can stop things from spawning. I guess the phrase "in use" was a little vague, but I meant for it to be because I was actually deliberately avoiding clarifying the difference between the two types of ownership to keep things simple and write less, lol.
