In 130 hours I've killed about 50 players for one reason or another, all of them geared. But, I've let more people go than people I've killed.

Game Updates Remain When Switching Back From Experimental Branch?
Solopopo posted a topic in General Discussion
Maybe I'm going crazy, but I don't remember hearing bird noises everywhere I go. After switching out of experimental branch I hear them everywhere. Anyone else experiencing this? -
There's always the possibility that it was damp before you picked it up.

Combat Logging Will Increase With Update: Log Out Timers
Solopopo posted a topic in General Discussion
Instead of adding a penalty for switching servers too quickly, they should add a log out timer. You should be required to crouch for a period of time before logging out (about a minute). Once the animation is started it cannot be stopped until you are dead or logged out. While in this position you would be vulnerable to attacks from zombies or players. You would not be able to attack back. If you are attempting to combat log you will render yourself completely helpless until you are actually logged out. The player attacking you will most likely catch up to you before this happens, because they will know you are vulnerable if you are trying to log out. This would stop combat logging and make server hopping less safe. Server hoppers are rarely punished by players because they log out too quickly. If you were forced to stay in a server for a least a minute (after fully loading which would make it more like a minute and thirtry seconds) common server hopper spawns would not be safe for hopping anymore. They would become hopper graveyards. With the server swapping time penalty that they are going to implement, and combat logging not addressed, players are going to be combat logging much more frequently, because it is going to take them much longer to gather that gear they don't want to lose. You can't stop one without stopping the other. If you stop combat logging, players are going to server hop more. If you stop server hopping, players are going to combat log more. Dealing with one, but not the other, will make the other worse. I don't think the way they've chosen to address the problem is right. Although, I am happy they are trying. -
Wildest Player Encounters, Skirmishes, Etc.
Solopopo replied to Adaedin's topic in General Discussion
It's not like there aren't a hundred threads like this already, but I'll bite. I killed three fully geared players in Elektro last night with naught but my trusty fireaxe. It was the only item I had. I briefly caught a glimpse of a guy in a window whilst traveling through. I slowly sneaked upstairs to find him firing upon a lowly player down below. I came up behind him him and said, "hello." He turned to face me before I buried my axe in his face. I then said, "Thanks for the Mosin. Now I get to kill the guy you were trying to kill." I picked up his Mosin and tried aiming at the guy he was about to kill, but I forgot that everyone in the vicinity could hear me. A bullet ricocheted off the window in front of me from somewhere far in the distance. It wasn't him that had fired, but the guy I unintentionally saved had already run into the downstairs part of the building I was in (I could hear him). I didn't hesitant. I sprinted down the stairs and started swinging wildly. He caught me in the stomach with his magnum, but he died after. I stood there over his body trying to organize the spoils. This guy had an M4 and I wanted to carry it in my hands as I carried the first guy's Mosin on my back, but I was running into some difficulties. As I was struggling to dual carry the two primaries, a third fully geared guy runs into the room, and almost up the stairs, without realizing I was there. I'm pretty confident it was the guy that tried to shoot me in the window. The battle ensued same as the last. I swung at him wildly. He got me once with his M4. I stood above the bandits bodies in triumph, then logged out with all their stuff. I killed a guy who was trying to kill guy who was trying to kill another guy. Then I killed the other two guys. The lowly magnum wielder was under cover from the guy that tried to shoot me at the window. He didn't even know the first guy I killed was trying to kill him, and he had the clearest shot (aiming down into the supermarket not even 50 meters). -
If only the 300 knew about this; they could have defeated the Persians.

Some How Glitched Into A Wall Now I Can't Get Out
Solopopo replied to RagedDrew's topic in General Discussion
That's because he knew what you were asking by your title alone, since you are far from the only person to have experienced this. -
My hero uniform is a hoodie and baseball cap with jeans. Sometimes I'll throw on a beret. The most normal looking clothing is hero clothing. If you see someone wearing any type of mask at all it's probably a bandit. Just as in real life, you can't trust people who hide behind masks. It's funny how you can read people by their clothing the same way you would in real life. People tend to dress for what they intend. If they intend to murder people, they look the part. I try to look as unconventional and nonthreatening as possible when I play, whether I'm playing as a hero or a bandit. I don't want players shooting me out of fear no matter what my intentions are. My advice to a typical bandit wearing typical bandit gear would be to do yourself a favor and don't scream "I'm coming to kill you" before you even get a chance to open your mouth; even if you are coming to kill them. ^_^

One can only hope. By chance is your avatar from the old 90's video game Roadrash?

You can run it. I'm running on an amd 2.4 ghz quad core (2 wasted cores and a low ghz) processor and a radeon 5770. Mine is just barely good enough to run it. It runs like shit though. In fact I think my set up is literally the lowest you can go and still play. Certain parts of big cities can get pretty laggy, but fortunately everyone is having performance issues, even people with beastly computers, so it evens things out a bit. You should have no problem on that comp if I'm playing on this one. Just be prepared to make some graphics adjustments. You might need to lower view distance and screen complexity.

Bows and arrows are something we all know is going to get put in the game already. Beans for effort.

I don't think you understand the ideas being discussed in this thread. Who's whining? Who mentioned getting killed while camping? -
Combat Logging Will Increase With Update: Log Out Timers
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Brilliant. Instead of a penalty on how long it takes to log in, it should be how long it takes to log out, and it should increase when you do it too frequently. Like I said in the original post, I don't think they are approaching this the right way. They need to focus on how quickly players are logging out, not how quickly they are logging in. The idea of DayZ is to keep players IN the server, not in server hopping limbo, which is where many players will stay, locked out of the game, instead of locked into the game, where they can be punished the way it should be. Exactly. Long, defenseless, log out timers would get in the way a lot, but it would not stop it completely. However, it would make server hopping an unattractive prospect. If you kill the desire to hop, you kill hopping, or at least most of it. -
Combat Logging Will Increase With Update: Log Out Timers
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Ah, so they are already planning something like this. But I think combat timers alone would be enough to stop hopping. I don't think server swapping penalties would be necessary if the log out timer was longer and if the animation could not be stopped once started. No players would be logging out in the popular server hopper rooms, because they wouldn't want to sit in a high traffic area completely defenseless. They would be required to leave the hopping site, and seek refuge somewhere else, at least if they wanted to live. This would really get in the way of hopping. It wouldn't stop it altogether, but I think the risk would be enough to keep it under control. The hoppers wouldn't be the ones that end up keeping that loot. It would almost always be lost to legitimate non hopping players camping. I can see the current "solution" they are implementing bothering hoppers and non hoppers alike. Long, defenseless, combat timers would only hurt hoppers, not legitimate players. -
But they can still combat log <_< They should have added a log out timer instead of penalizing players who are just looking around for a good server to play on. So combat logging still exists, but server hopping will be stopped. Loot will be much harder to find, so players will combat log CONSTANTLY to avoid losing their gear that took them half a day to gather. This is just bad.

I do the same thing every time I die. I stare blankly at the screen trying to figure out what I did wrong, or what I could have done differently. Then I respawn and try to get revenge. You would be surprised how often you can get your stuff back. Chances are your stuff will still be there, or at least most of it, and your killer will still be in the vicinity. I've avenged myself several times. That always makes me feel better. I've gotten pretty efficient at regrearing and killing my killer. The only thing that really bothers me now is dying or getting wiped late at night. It's too late to regear so I'm forced to stop playing earlier than I'd like.

That would be cool if they would bring writing back.... Does Ctrl+v not work in game? I started playing after writing was removed.

Anyone else experiencing game crashes recently? I crash about once an hour now.

Teamspeak/Skype is not a problem. Gamers use these programs when they are playing games competitively with friends all the time. It's an advantage..... no shit. It's the same for all games and it isn't even close to being a problem. Suggesting it should be "stopped" in any way is ludicrous. This is the worst suggestion I've ever seen ever. Do you have friends? If you had friends to play with you would hate this idea, as would anyone that plays games with friends. You are actually suggesting that friends should have no way of communicating with each other when they spawn great distances apart from each other? How would anyone ever find their friends? How would anyone ever play with friends? They wouldn't, and the game would suck so much I can't even fathom. Worst idea in the history Day Z suggestions. It takes a pretty heinous idea to provoke such an aggressive response from me, but this takes the cake. It would be impossible to implement anyway. Even if DayZ did implement some kind of 3rd party VoiP restriction, players would just call or txt each other, completely defeating the purpose. It would be a futile waste of time. Can't you just pretend they are communicating with radios? -1

Being healthy has saved me way more than once. You can take more shots in battle if you are healthy. Not only can you take more shots, but you can heal from those shots rapidly as well, especially if you bandage early. Last night I got shot by a mosin, a magnum, and an M4 in a 5 minute peroid. Each shot came from a different player. Each died to my axe :D Stay healthy, stay happy, stay alive.
-
Don't an hero hanger on us.
-
Thanks for the heads up. Beans.
-
This is what I do every time I spawn. I find a mosin, and I kill people with it. You might catch shit for it, but you are not alone. This is what many bandits are doing right now. You may chose tobe a hero, that is up to you, butt dont kill freshspawns. Thats just lame. Maybe try holding someone up sometime.

The Zombie Ai Is Actually Really Good So Far. But No One Seems To Notice.
Solopopo replied to alleycat's topic in General Discussion
They dont really have AI. They just chase you if you are in their line of site, which stretches very far. They dont respond to your actions the way one would expect of typical AI. They just bee line for players untill they dont see them anymore. If this is good AI to you, you'be been playing some pretty awful games. -
Speedloaders are like mags for weapons that dont use mags.
