You would love a game called "Tibia." It is a shadow of it's former glory, but I highly recommend playing it if you like for death in games to actually matter. No game in the world will make your heart pound harder, not even Day Z. Tibia is Deans vision come to fruition, in a medieval fantasy setting, with terrible graphics.

Indeed people have feelings for the games they play. One glance down the front page of many game's general message boards makes this abundantly clear. When you invest a lot of your time into something, you start to care about it. People get passionate when they feel like something is threatening their favorite pastime, which they may have devoted a lot of their life to. I for one have invested almost 300 hours of my time into Day Z. That's 12.5 days! You may have invested even more. That's an investment I care about.

Bohemia won't want his legacy looming over their game as a constant reminder. I think they are tired of what he symbolizes; tired of one man exerting so much influence over their investment, who makes decisions based on what he thinks will make the game better, instead of what is best financially. I wouldn't be surprised if they are the ones who want him to leave, and he was told to announce it as his own decision. If he came out and said he was asked to leave there would be pandemonium. This seems to me like history repeating itself. Gaming companies don't hesitate to cut the heads off figureheads in the community of a game, especially when said figurehead poses a threat to profit. The people who own these companies are not gamers. They look at games and see dollar signs, not entertainment.
-
Immediately most likely. At least within the first patch after his departure, which may entail changes he stood in the way of during his time involved with the game.
-
I don't think he has any legal rights over the game apart from Bohemia. That's just not the way the gaming industry works. But I sure hope I'm wrong.
-
Unfortunately, I agree with you. Almost everything wrong with Day Z I attribute to Bohemia. Everything right Dean is responsible for. Arma wouldn't have sold half as many copies without him. He's been fighting their terrible engine for years. At least he has 10 more months to work on the game. They should just leave things the way they are after that, but they probably won't. I'm sure he'll leave the people working on the game in his stead a set of guidelines. Whether they adhere to them....well, based on the arguments he describes having with them over the state of the game, I think not. Yeah. We get ten more months of his handiwork, but that's it after that. I am sad as well :( Quoted for relevance. Although, it certainly wasn't a financial mistake, I agree. I don't think discussing the future state of the game is pointless at all. We are the consumers. Our voice matters, believe it or not.

Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed

Yes, exactly. I knew your post was directed at him. I kind of digressed a bit. Sorry about that :P -

Firstly, unimaginably is a word. Second, the appeal of Day Z is that it is an enormous open world. There are no loading screens, and that's what people like. In theory, I could fire a sniper rifle from the far west side of the map, and that bullet would be capable of killing someone on the east coast. This is what makes DayZ DayZ. Loading screens are a terrible idea. Toss the Mackbook out the window and buy a real computer, or better yet, buy the parts for a better computer and slap em together. It's pretty fan and can be very rewarding. Also, I'd like to add that if you haven't already done so, there are several graphical tweaks you can make to the game's files that will make the game run better. I play Day Z on two computers depending on where I am at the time. One is much worse than the other, and it is actually bellow recommended settings, but I manage to play just fine with these tweaks. After making sure your in game graphics settings are all set to low, and that your screen resolution is set appropriately. Set screen complexity to 150000 Set view distance to 1000 Set object view distance to 800 Look it up. -
That's a broken leg alright. It can be confusing because you can stand up if your leg is broken, but if you move forward you will promptly smash your face into the ground, which when you think about it is kind of realistic. You could balance on one leg, but you would fall as soon as you tried to use your other leg.

Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Same here, but whenever I notice server admin abuse it almost always seems to happen in a situation where I just killed a player, or group of players, in a really infuriating way. Where admins feel humiliated they will abuse their power if they can. Since I intentionally seek out opportunities to disgrace/humiliate players, I experience these types of admin shenanigans quite a bit, although I can never really be absolutely certain what is going on. I can only acknowledge the statistics, and for me, the statistics seem to say that pissed of admins abuse their power. I am however ignorant to the extent their power stretches, but it seems logical that admin exploits would be less well known than public exploits, because not all of us are admins. When you consider that the devs seem to favor admins, it seems even more likely that admin exploitation would go on unnoticed. -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
It's possible that he did something that would influence your public hive database information. Admins have the power to kick individual players. This can result in a death if the admin, or his friends, are nearby to shoot you before you vanish from the server. It could be a coincidence, but at the same time it could not be. -
Is it too much to ask for smooth controls?
Solopopo replied to infiltrator's topic in General Discussion
My beans are yours. The clunkiness of Resident Evil controls actually did enhance the experience. Whether or not that was intentional.... I doubt it, but who cares?? It was awesome. As for Day Z, character movement doesn't bother me one bit. But I absolutely can't stand that no matter how high my frames are, the camera pans around like it's being held by Micheal J. Fox. The fact that Rocket encourages first person perspective play is a joke considering how jittery the screen is. -
It depends on how successful I am in my PvP encounters, but in comparison to other players, I don't live very long. I switch to high populated servers to start PvPing immediately after finding a weapon. Factor in the fact that I server hop to get said weapon, and you shouldn't be surprised to hear that my average life span is about 30 minutes, but I take an average of 5 players out with me every time I go. I did the whole survivor thing for a while. Got old fast. Maybe I'll start playing that way again a few updates from now.

The Current Combat Log System Dosen't Work
Solopopo replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
How would a cancellable log out timer be exploitable? Reference the above post for clarification. You might already be familiar with this idea if you remember my thread about it a while back. If you recall, my idea was shot down because I was suggesting it would also be a good preventative measure against server hopping. But if we forget that for a minute, as simply a measure against combat logging, it would work. This will all probably sound very silly if you don't remember. -
The Current Combat Log System Dosen't Work
Solopopo replied to Karmaterror's topic in General Discussion
Although your post is almost impossible to understand, I agree that the current system is not stopping combat logging. The new system was effective for a brief while in the beginning, when people thought it actually worked, but it doesn't work. I combat logged just today. As for log out timers that can be cancelled, I proposed something similar a while back. You should have to put your weapon away and crouch for a full minute to be able to log out. The penalty for breaking the log out animation should be temporary paralysis lasting about ten seconds. This temporary immobility could be represented by an animation of your character getting back on his feet. Not only would this stop combat logging, but it would also make server hopping more risky, because a server hopper could spawn in right on top of of you, or a legitimate player could just stumble into the building, and you'd be helpless to defend yourself. People would have to start ensuring their surrounding were safe before logging out, which was kind of the idea with this system, but like I said, it's not working. -
I've been killed by wall hacking twice in 300 hours of play. It isn't that common, but it does happen.

Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
I also have a question. What other "unfounded assumptions" have I made? I say right in my original post that the resets could be coincidental. There is no way to be absolutely certain you killed an admin. But if a server resets after you kill the only other person in the server, and it isnt time for the scheduled server cycle reset, it is likely that it was the admin shutting down the server. If you just humiliated a group of geared players, and the server resets out of cycle, it is likely that the admin was in that group and he shut down the server. It is also a well known fact that admins are capable of doing this and that there are admins who do. The only one making unfounded assumptions is you about me, and I dont appreciate it one bit. Read what you are responding to before you submit your post. Otherwise run the risk of making a fool of yourself. Not like it matters. You'll be among the majority around here. Your post exemplifies the typical Day Z general forum attitude. "I don't agree with this person for reasons I don't completely understand, and I haven't taken the time to fully consider what he's saying, but I'm going to lash out at him, because that's what I default to." I've done nothing to provoke your disdainful comment, although it doesn't surprise me in the least. -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
There is nothing excellent about ad hominem logical fallacy. There's a reason we aren't in the dark ages anymore. However people have made suggestions on how you can avoid such things. You're not the only one to complain about and has been reported. I don't understand what you are saying. What things? Who's been reported? if we really want to implement a scientific method Again dude, I really don't want to implement any sort of scientific method. Straight from the developer's mouth admins have the power to shut down a server, which most of the time initiates a hive rollback. Yes it is stated to be a known problem but it does not work 100% of the time. It is not stated to be a known "problem." Developers do not see this as a problem. They gave admins the power to shut servers down and initiate a hive rollback to undo damage caused by hackers. Using it for any other reason is admin abuse. Reported admins get punished, in theory at least. Even if the server is shut down right after the death you would be moving on to a different server anyway. So all that loot you thought you were getting you can get from a different server. Sure, I could move on and get over it. I have long ago. But it doesn't change the fact that admins are abusing their power to bring themselves back to life. It is against the rules for admins to do this. You could say this about just about anything wrong with the game. "Zombies running through walls? Just get over it." It's not a very strong argument and doesn't lead to any sort of solution. Thank you for being civil. Best of luck to you in your Day Z endeavors. Note: Copying your response directly from the quote messed up the colors. I'm just leaving it as is. -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
As soon as one admits to server hopping on his forum, anything he would have to say about anything, right, or wrong, is discredited. That's ad hominem logical fallacy, and I've gotten pretty tired of it. It happens every time. Ad hominem fallacy is rampant on these boards. I'm only anticipating peoples discrediting bullshit posts. As for the purpose of this thread, I am not proposing a solution, but that doesn't mean I don't think the problem should be addressed. Why do you assume just because I don't have a suggestion to offer about how to fix it, that I don't think the problem should be fixed? Even if I had a suggestion it would just be discredited because I am a server hopper. Making people aware of the situation is my purpose, and continuing to discuss in this thread will only serve to keep the thread at the top of the boards where more people will see it. I have nothing more to add to this thread, but feel free to keep bumping it. I will continue to respond. If enough people bitch about something on these forums, the developers will address the problem one way or another. It's how we got our server hopping timer. I contributed to anti-server hopping discussion, as I will continue to contribute to admin abuse discussion. And I will unapologetically point out when someone is committing logical fallacy along the way, and do my best not to be reduced to their level (Although I am not always successful. Some people around here just refuse reason altogether. It can be very frustrating) -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
Every time this comes up in a thread it completely distracts from the topic at hand, as if it is relevant in any way. As if what I do personally has anything to do with the fact of admin abuse. It is because of my server hopping that I was able to see for myself this abuse. I've made threads against server hopping, and now I've made a thread against admin abuse. There is a timer now. Server hopping is no longer exploiting. Exploiting would be somehow shortening the timer. Everyone can server hop. The playing field is even. Only an admin can resurrect his dead body. You can't report server hopping. It is not a punishable offense; admin abuse is. Even Rocket server hops; watch him stream sometime. Smart people don't force inconvenience on themselves. Why should anyone personally care about server hopping. Benefit from it or don't, it's your choice. It's not going to stop other people from doing it, so it's just silly not to. Really silly. Like, retarded silly. -
Admins Shutting Servers Down When They Get Killed
Solopopo replied to Solopopo's topic in General Discussion
I truly do insist. I have I life to live outside of DayZ. Anything to save time I'm going to do. This isn't something that happens so often it's always hurting my experience playing, but it happens often enough. I'm always going for the big fish, and the biggest, baddest group is typically the group playing with the admin. It can be frustrating surviving a fight in which you were outnumbered, and at a disadvantage, only to not be able to reap the reward. But I've killed and died enough times not too care too much about any one death in particular. As long as people know this is happening, I'm okay with it, which I've stated earlier in the thread. Bests of luck in your future Day Z endeavors.
