  1. why is the price to host a dayz server so high? the premiere experience to own and operate a private hive sixty player server for a year goes for about $1,676.00 (€1440.00). i can't think of any way to justify this price.
  2. thumbs up to getting public server files and modding out there. personally i've been waiting years for that and if you have any more details on when players can expect that please share. but unless you want to make the case that all of these third party companies are gouging the price of dayz servers by ridiculous margins compared to virtually every other game out there, you're selling the game to these companies for too high of a price to begin with.
  3. would it cut the price in half? an arma 3 sixty player vps costs way less than that per year. ($550.00) the price of running the server on linux changes the price by about fifteen dollars a month.
  4. That's all fine and dandy. Sharing one machine with measly ftp access should cost the customer less. For that price I could rent a dedicated machine.
  5. Clarify what you mean by "server instance"
  6. why does the first timeline circle on https://dayz.com/ have the caption "Early Access Launch" and point to a status report from february 2015? early access launch was december 2013.

    0.63 Developer Live Stream - 14th March 2018

if you care about the development and overall success of this game you would hold developers accountable when they make mistakes. assuming you've played dayz mod, you know how insignificant melee combat was. as i showed in my previous post, a steady decline of players can be observed ever since the alpha was released. one of the main reasons for this is developing features grossly out of order when sorted in terms of importance. three years on an animation system (which looks great) before a bike was added to the game? come on. it's just silly. melee combat isn't a selling point of dayz and just never will be. foolish to think otherwise.

no, im not making large generalizations. you're sadly mistaken if you believe enhanced melee combat is even close to as essential to the success of dayz as base building is. you said it yourself, people literally forget there was a difference between epoch and dayz. because the only mod everyone played and still play are epoch, overpoch and spin offs there of that all include base building.

225 km^2 map. focus on melee combat. pick one. you know how wrong this looks? that's the result on wasting time on dumb features. no one bought a copy of dayz sa for the melee combat. true staples of dayz such as base building created this game's cult following and the developers continue to push off core features that made dayz so unique and appealing.

    0.63 Developer Live Stream - 14th March 2018

My notes from watching the first hour and twenty minutes of the livestream. stamina bar - no one asked for this on a 225 km^2 map. especially without common bikes, cars, or helicopters. listening to the guy on the stream say the reason for adding the stamina system was so people to plan their routes to include stopping at smaller settlements along the way to their destination is poor. everyone will still fire up their autorun script and "jog" to the nearest military base. if you want people to check out some of the lesser known places on the map, add quality loot in all locations and more of it! the biggest problem right now is there is no quality loot worth looking for in smaller settlements. focus on melee combat - no one cares about this, and no one will care about this. this isn't street fighter or mortal combat. This is dayz. message to developers, stop trying to make this game something that it is not. focus on the key features that brought everyone to dayz in the first place instead of adding a million extra features. diseases from bloody hands - killing a chicken and then eating the meat while your hands are bloody could get your player sick. seems just annoying more than anything. running while eating - good. status bar for ongoing actions - good. unique animations - good. ambient spawning stone - why? now we can't "search" for stones? indifferent. running uphill - great. weapon sway - really good. weapon animations - really good. ladders - really good. slowing down combat - potentially really good. swimming - really good. falling - really good.

    Basebuilding

Most Dayz servers run twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Which means, unless you play twenty-four hours a day seven days a week, inevitably, there will be change to the server that you can not control. Before building a base, one must consider the location, to determine how likely it is for players to come into contact with the base, and if enough supplies have been obtained to finish construction in one sitting so loot may be safely stored inside. The Dayz map is large, and there is plenty of good hiding spots for a base. When the time comes, if you believe there aren't proper tools for you to protect your base with while offline, then don't build one. To answer your question regarding public hive, public hive is bad. As far as I can remember, no one asked for public hive. As you may know, the Dayz community was built on indy server providers and loosely connected developers who built a brand with their individual servers. That was part of the fun. You could find a niche server to call home. The public hive ruins all of that, and introduces other, much harder issues to the game.

What's wrong with "3PP Wall peek" on a server with third person view enabled?

My post was sarcastic. Relax guy. No one should have to "casually read the developer blogs" to understand the game is still under construction. I was playing on a server with third person enabled. It's safe to say the other players on the server were using third person as well.

  19. Very surprised to hear some of the arguments against base building. Base building was a huge part of Dayz Mod. I guess It doesn't matter if base building makes it into Vanilla Dayz or not, as it will most certainly be introduced by 3rd party developers once the game becomes available to modify.

I didn't see an area to kind to post this sort of information so I believe this was the most appropriate category. I will be attempting to document my players life in Dayz. At the end of each life I will attempt to provide a useful suggestions that could be used to make the game better in future versions. 0.60.133516

Day 3 I decided to leave Gorka and continue to head north to Severograd. I looted the town, but still wasn't able to find much. I decided to test out my shotgun and pistol on zombies nearby. From what I could tell it seemed like both weapons were extremely accurate from firing from the hip as well as aiming down the sights. The shotgun was able to take down zombies in one shot from impressive distances. I moved further north into a small military base and found nothing. I know there is an industrial factory nearby so I will try to look for a car I could fix up in order to drive to a better location on the map. The East side of the map seems to be lacking in loot until very far in the NE corner.

Erm. New Player Discussion denotes that everything in the said category would be for the eyes of new players only. Seriously, read: I believe that more people would post interesting stories if there was a dedicated thread for this type of content outside of the New Player Discussion. Also, just because I wasn't sure where I spawned in, you assume I am new? That's just false. Even this forum account is from 2013. http://imgur.com/a/lVEqs

It's in the new player category. I don't know why I would be posting in there if I am not a new player. That thread makes it seem like it's a "How was your Dayz" discussion for new players only or something.

Day 2 Everything I took from the player I killed disappeared when I logged back in. Maybe I killed him after he disconnected? Anyway, I was able to find myself an mp-133 on my way to Gorka. Once I was inside, the police station had a nice Glock19 with a flashlight, mag and loads of 9mm ammo. After finding this I went over to hunting stands to the north. I killed a deer with my shotgun, but I did not have any materials in order to cook it. I did not see anyone today. I am still looking for a Hunters backpack and some farming equipment.
