I know for sure if you log off while unconscious your body disappears. Dunno why. Not completely certain it works the same if you died, but maybe the guy was unconscious after you shot him, rather than dead?

Yet to be killed by ladder... But glitching through floor and dying is similar and very common and annoying, so I feel your pain. (Of losing all that gear...)

Oh I've also never seen anyone else who wears sunglasses under a gas mask under a motorbike helmet. SO if you see someone with three layers covering his face, he's friendly. :D
