    More civillian clothing.. Less military

Military clothes, fine with me. Everyone having a tacticool gun and enough magazines to take out a martian invasion, not fine with me. I don't see any reason why bullets shouldn't be absolute gold. The tension it adds is great, when you have a half-filled magazine in your 1911 and nothing on standby, or when your magnum has 2 loaded in. You are forced to make your shots matter, and you are much more careful when it comes to using those rounds. Making it so anyone can go to a military base and find a rifle with two mags that they can use to spray and pray for the rest of their short life is silly. Add tacticool guns, and tacticool gear, but make it rare, and make the ammo rarer...

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

My family is full of hunters and we have so many guns and camouflage it would be nearly impossible for us to take it all with us... We have more then a truckload of guns and a shitload of camouflage, we would have to leave it behind just because we have too much. That's why stumbling upon my Uncle's house in the apocalypse would be a godsend. Even though a good amount of the stuff would be gone, namely ammunition, you would still find a shitload of guns. We would not be able to take all of them with us to the woods. The AR-15 would be coming, though, thats for sure. :D

Top quality hacking - prepubescent boy

Battle Eye will most likely get him... Later. After the damage has been done. Of course, his parents will buy him his most likely 8th copy of DayZ right after he gets banned.

Does not mean camouflage and vests and stuff are strictly military. If you are a hunter, you'll have plenty of camo. It isn't like the army is the only one with the camo.

    More civillian clothing.. Less military

I think people just want their apocalypse situation to be filled with people wearing two month old, tattered hoodies as they fire off their guns sideways because of how untrained they are, all while somehow surviving, day after day, week after week. In reality, you'd go with whatever was most effective. Most people would learn that firing their guns sideways is not effective. Hopefully.
  6. That means canned goods should become super rare. There are now animals, at least in Experimental, that we can hunt down and kill. The need for abundant canned beans and bacon is now nonexistent. One town should not have enough food to energize you, it should have barely any food at all. There are now alternatives to scavenging for food. This means... We can make the game harder! The food spawns can be toned down. Players will have to be patient and hunt so that they can't starve. Food can be a challenge! It can! It should! So, will we be seeing food spawns toned down? I hope so!
  7. Almost gave beans until you said it would be dumb to remove 90% of food... We do need realistic starvation, including malnourishment and a slower rate of starvation, but... Right now the game is so stupidly easy to survive in that why there has not been a drastic, 80% - 90% decrease in canned goods spawning is ridiculous. Now, I can see why waiting for realistic starvation to come would be a good idea, but that should be high up on the priority list, and I bet it isn't.
  8. No , you improvise. You make a crude bow, or you sacrifice one of you bullets, if you have any. If you do, having ten will be a godsend, and you should only have a few, if any, which you have to use wisely. Stuff like bows will be actually worthwhile. You are acting like abundant ammo is required to hunt. ALSO, I would love to be hunted!

    Clothing functionality

I did not know one hole from a bullet in a kevlar vest or a bullet proof plate makes the rest of the vest or plate useless...

    Concerned about the Sawn Off

This isn't a rage thread. Why? I survived due to something being rather off with the Sawn Off. Should I have survived? No. Let me explain the situation. A man, with a Mosin and a Sawn Off, fired a single round at us while we were drinking from the well atop the hill over Elektro. He was in the house, but we didn't know this yet. Thinking it was from the hill, I went inside of the house for cover. When I entered, our opponent shot both barrels of his Sawn Off at me, dealing NO damage. I then freaked out and unloaded a whole SKS mag into him, to make sure he was dead. Fortunately, most of the shots had missed, as I was in third person and was not expecting to have to shoot someone. I had hit him apparently in the legs and the chest, missing his backpack but ruining his vest, shirt, and pants, which had nothing of use. I also finished him off with a bullet to the head, after apologizing to him on microphone, informing him he could have taken the diplomatic approach. Afterwards, me and my friend looted his body, and I started to wonder why my legs weren't broken, why I wasn't bleeding, and suffering from major damage. The guy had the advantage, fired at me, but missed, probably due to desync, lag, or some weird spread dispersion luck. The Sawn Off should have decimated me from this range. He was using it where you would expect to use it and succeed, which he would have done had this been in real life. Unfortunately, somehow, he missed... His shotgun was empty, with a speedloader out of shells inside, which confirms the fact he shot. Other then that, there is no way to know, other then the sound I heard. I didn't taken any injuries and got me and my friend out of Elektro with enough food, water, and ammunition to last us a while.

    DayZ is to Clean

Gore in an authentic survival horror game? Asking too much? That's silly. This game will not be a true authentic survival experience without some sort of realistic blood and gore. Its the apocalypse, when people get shot up, it looks pretty nasty. It isn't asking too much, it should be a priority in late beta.
  14. hannibaldaplaya

    Best guns? (against humans)

AKM when it reaches stable, SKS while you wait.

    DayZ is to Clean

As long as it doesn't replace a full on gore system for bodies. I want to be able to look at someone and know how they died, not have to go over to them and go through an action to get the general information. Now, the more advanced information? Sure, but this game needs gory bodies that allow you to see how that body ended up dead. For example, if I am looking over a city and spot a body with my binoculars, I should be able to tell if it was a zed (If so, arms and legs maybe ripped off, guts spilled out and devoured, etc) or if it was another player (brains blew out, gunshots on them, slashes, etc.)
  16. hannibaldaplaya

    DayZ is to Clean

This is good if they make it so that bodies are actually, you know, dynamic. For example, you find a body mangled with bullet holes leaning against the wall. Using your BRILLIANT detective skills you now know someone with an automatic weapon killed him as he stood near the wall. Someone with half of their head blown off and splattered against the sidewalk means either someone likes headshots or there is a sniper in town, and someone with slashes across their torso means a melee master is up to some mischief.
  17. This is why they need to redo starvation. They need to base the rate of starvation on two things- What you are doing, and how hydrated you are. If you are running for your life 99% of the time, you should starve faster, and succumb to it quicker. You'll get malnourished faster, and you'll die faster. If you're walking, taking regular breaks, and staying in one place, you should last a lot longer, and shouldn't die as fast from starvation- In fact, it should take a lot time to die from starvation if you aren't doing anything at all. If you are hydrated, you shouldn't die from starvation as normally as you would when you're thirsty. This means that if you're starving, you would do what you would in real life, which is find a source of water and keep hydrated. You'll become weak before you die of starvation, and those who are smart will hunker down near a stream while waiting for someone or an animal to pass by that may have the food they need. They could also hunt in the general vincinity, but if you start running for miles while you are malnourished and weak with hunger, you're just speeding up your death...
  18. Lol. Food would be the first thing taken from cities and towns. Canned goods lying around in every house does not make sense, as everyone would have taken them within a few months. Finding tins of food would be rare, very rare, and would require the luck to stumble upon a place untouched by looters...
  19. Its a pooooooooooooooll. Tell me if you want any answers added.
  20. This thread contains my hopes for what DayZ will eventually become by release. This is not a thread complaining and ranting about things I want now, it is a thread about what I hope the game becomes by the time it is fully released. I do not expect anything that I talk about in this thread to be added in immediately, or during the alpha, or during the beta. This is a thread about what I want the game to become, not about what I want the next update to make the game into- This is about my long-term dreams for the title. By release, I hope DayZ will be the most harsh survival game on the market. I want this game to become a game where you are constantly worrying about things, and where getting to the point where your stomach is full and you have bullets to spare should be incredibly difficult and should not last for long. This thread will be in sections. Food, Water, Starvation, and Sickness Food should be something you are CONSTANTLY looking for, but to balance this out the time you can survive without food after spawning in needs to be increased. It takes around 30 - 40 in game minutes to basically die of starvation, and that is ridiculous. In real life, you can survive weeks without food, depending on what you are doing. If you are moving, you will not last as long, if you are resting, you will last longer. If you are hydrated, you will last longer, if you aren't you will die a lot quicker. Plus, starvation should make your character malnourished. It should weaken your character, instead of immediately killing it. What I am proposing is that food is a rare commodity and is one of your main concerns but it should not be a short-fused stick of dynamite, but a stick of dynamite with a fuse a mile long, and as the fuse gets shorter and shorter, your character gets weaker and weaker. How do you make it so everyone doesn't slowly starve to death and rage about it here on the forums? We now have hunting, in Experimental. You make it so that the best way to get food is to hunt or forage. Canned goods should be rare- Maybe one or two cans a town, three or so in a city. Finding berries, setting up traps, and hunting big game should be a good, effective alternative to hoping for a can of beans in the town ahead. Basically, hunting should be essential due to a decrease of food that can be scavenged. Water should be easier to find, but should be tedious to purify. You'll either have to boil it, or perhaps find some purification pills. If you don't use one of these methods, you should have a chance to get sick. Plenty of diseases can be implemented into the game that spread through water, and plenty of them should be added, so its hard to diagnose what you have caught and thus harder to cure. Since being hydrated will be essential to surviving starvation, players will have to make sure they have a safe, clean source of water so that they don't succumb to starvation faster then usual due to being dehydrated. Sickness should be devastating if not treated. Antibiotics and medicine from hospitals should be a godsend, just like most things should be in game. Rest, water, and food should help against sickness, but medicine should be the top dog when it comes to curing ailments. Plus, with a lot of diseases, you can have a lot of medicines, meaning self diagnosis can be deadly if it isn't done correctly. Guns, Ammunition, and Weaponry By the time DayZ is released, I hope that bullets are like solid blocks of gold. Ammunition should be one of the most rarest things in game, right next to food. The 75 drum mag for the AKM Should be a total joke. It'll be there, but it should never spawn full, and filling the thing up should take a lot of work, and a lot of luck. Magazines should always be less then half full when they spawn, but to balance this empty magazines should spawn in rifles and pistols that utilize them. Ammo should be rare, though, and most of the time you won't have a magazine on standy. You'll have to make your bullets count, as you will have very little. Since ammo will be so rare it will be like finding a $100 bill in a Walmart parking lot, dispersion needs to be removed. Sway and keeping the gun steady should be the way to portray inaccuracy, and should be able to be controlled. Without dispersion, people will be able to use their shots wisely, without a dice roll. Plus, dispersion is generally unrealistic, and is a crutch for 'balance' in a lot of FPS games, but this is supposed to be an authentic survival game, not a balanced FPS title. The lack of ammunition will increase player interactions, as why waste a bullet if you think you can mug this guy just by having your gun pointed at him, which will make the game a lot more unique and fun to play, as there will be less spray fire at everyone, as you won't be able to afford it. Ammo needs to be as valuable as gold. Now, the guns can be common, as long as they spawn empty and there is a huge variety of them by release. We need more ammo types, too, so finding the bullets for your rifle or pistol or the shells for your shotgun is a lot more difficult. Finding ammunition should be hard, let alone finding a specific type! Also, kinetic knockdown I will hope makes it in game. By this I mean players being knocked down when shot - Not knocked unconcious, just knocked down. Even if the bullet doesn't make it past your kevlar or plating, you should still be knocked down, and stunned. In real life, when a bullet hits you, especially in your legs or torso, you are probably going to fall down, or be knocked back, even if you are wearing protection. Melee I hope will be smoother and more responsive. It should also be a bit more in depth, and have a knockdown / stun system against zombies and players. Zombies With the navmesh on the way, the future for zeds look bright. Now all that is needed are hordes, lots of hordes. I don't know what else I can put in that I hope makes it to release, other then hordes, a competent and in depth stealth system, and better hit registration. Base Building I hope base building requires lots of resources, and is mostly focused on barricading and making small camps or crude walls. If inspiration is taken from Zomboid, I'll be a very happy camper. The Map, Atmosphere, and Little Things Chernarus isn't scary. It just isn't scary. Its a bright countryside full of buildings with a few blood stains and some car wrecks, that is about it. The atmosphere is there, but it doesn't look or seem apocalyptic. There isn't much destruction, and the game doesn't feel desolate. The cities look empty, not abandoned, as if everyone just disappeared. The abandoned cars are nice, but, there is not that many small details, and the blood stains they have added to certain buildings and overturned stuff just doesn't do it for me. Some of the newer buildings they are working on are more fitting, but Chernarus needs its cherry summer countryside aspect taken away. It feels like I'm on vacation in rural Europe. I hope for a more desolate, apocalyptic map, basically. I hope for atmosphere, too. There is atmosphere in DayZ, and I especially feel it when I'm sitting around the new campfires or walking near a place lit by a roadflare, or when you are walking through the woods or a town as night falls, but other then that, the map is a quiet, peaceful countryside full of armed people, a few zombies, and a lot of bullets whizzing through the air. I also want hope we get a few little things specifically for the game's atmosphere. Instruments such as guitars would be just plain awesome. Sitting around a campfire in a barricaded complex with your thin, malnourished buddies and playing some tunes on a guitar would be spectacular. It may be something little, and I don't want it now, I just want it by release. It shouldn't be a priority, it should be a nice, final touch when they have nothing else to do. Board games too, another low priority thing I hope we get. Challenge your opponents to a game of chess or gamble bullets and food at a game of poker. You could add a ton of stuff for players to do once they make bases or colonies around the map, and since ammunition will be rare, the chances of one guy coming in and killing everyone would be slim. There could be organized raids, of course, but both the community trying to survive in the place they call home and those there to take it from them will be in a war where every shot have to count. Of course, these are little things I don't want to be prioritized. They are just little touches I hope to see. People will need things to do in the apocalypse, once they've settled down. They'll be always worrying about supplies and passerby and zombies and disease, but whats a better way to kill stress then some campfire songs or a game of chess? Conclusion I will repeat this once again, this is what I hope makes it into the game by release. I want a harsh, unforgiving survival game where you never stop worrying about things. Oh, also, on a side note - Cannibalism, with some sort of negative effect - would be great as it would cause players to hunt others not only for supplies. Thank you for reading, and there is no TL;DR. I wrote this at 1:30 AM, go me.

How difficult would you like the game to be?

That is because melee is absolute ass right now.

    Any News on Global Chat?

Global Chat is immersion breaking. We're in the apocalypse, why should we be able to communicate with those on the other side of the map without a walkie talkie or some form of radio?

Isn't "DayZ" quite possibly the dumbest name ever?

Well, it was probably just a placeholder that was never replaced and now has to be stuck with for the sake of brand recognition.
  24. hannibaldaplaya

Isn't "DayZ" quite possibly the dumbest name ever?

This is incredibly ironic, as your name is simply Ocelot but with a z instead of a c. How original. The name may lack any sort of creativity, but its a brand. DayZ is what the mod was called when it had its popularity boom. A standalone title of that mod needs to use the same name so that potential customers know that it is the standalone version of the mod. It is like saying Counter Strike should have changed its name to something else when Valve picked it up and made it into an actual game. Brand recognition. That is a thing, yaknow?

    Requesting this Bag Please.....

Realistically, you can carry a ton of rifles strapped onto your back, but its going to be heavy. DayZ needs a weight system for carrying things. Light loadouts allow quick, fast, and quiet movement, while heavy loadouts are slower and a lot louder. For example, you can have a big bacpack and a huge sniper rifle on your back, but its not going to help you run for a long time. Weight and stamina should be directly linked.
