My friends shoot anyone who is geared ...
hannibaldaplaya replied to EvilTigerAce's topic in General Discussion
Hey. Guess what? DayZ is unfinished in nearly every regard. Its hard to play the game for hours on end without getting bored. Now, people fight this boredom in multiple ways. Some people enjoy the military PVP scene. They like to go to military bases and engage other well-armed or slightly armed groups. Does this make them a bad person, a twat? I don't think so. This is a video game. They decided to shoot at some people because they were bored, didn't want to risk getting shot by those people, and maybe wanted to enjoy a bit of the rush DayZ gives when it comes to PVP. Some people enjoy the coastline PVP scene. They like to go to spawn points with their kits and mow down everyone they see. Does this make them a bad person, a twat? No, not really. Like I said before, this is a video game. If they want to go and shoot everyone they damn see in an area where they won't have a challenge, who gives a shit - It keeps things tense and puts other players on edge. My point is, this is a video game, and seeing so many of you guys spit on people for doing something half of you probably do - Shoot on sight in Military bases - is kinda silly. I'll be honest. I don't shoot on sight on the coast or when I'm dealing with unarmed, but when it comes to armed? I like a good firefight, and I'd rather get into something tense and enjoyable with another well armed player then attempt to be mister nice guy. If I do that, guess what? I get shot. Boy oh boy. I don't get what the problem with is KoS. People will KoS. No matter what. The only thing you can do about? Make ammunition a bit more scarce - Make it so Military geared dudes aren't hauling around hundreds of rounds. Then, you might see a bit more caution when it comes to using guns. But really, these two guys shot some armed fellows coming into a hostile environment to protect themselves, to get a bit of a rush, and to combat their most likely piled up boredom. This doesn't make them immature, this doesn't make them some sort of morally wrong twat, it just makes them players with a play style you don't necessary enjoy. -
Killed by hacker or skilled player?
hannibaldaplaya replied to Uutgrunnen's topic in General Discussion
If it was a hacker, he would have shot you a lot EARLIER. Guess what? You sat in one spot, not moving anything but your view for just a bit under a minute after being fired at - The guy who was intent on blowing your brains out searched around the woods until he found your ass, which he promptly shot to death. -
Favorite things about .49 so far
hannibaldaplaya replied to Death By Crowbar's topic in General Discussion
Though they've added a few nice touches such as random doors, door sounds, new items and a variety of bug fixes and new bugs, I have yet to be challenged by either the environment or the 'lack of supplies.' They've yet to tone down the loot spawns or even put any thought into making things just a bit balanced. I was able to spawn in Vybor today, dash to the military base, and have a vest, hunting backpack, SKS, a drum magazine and a 30 round magazine - That netted me 105 bullets for my SKS - along with full camouflage in 15 minutes. That's boring. I was geared and ready to go onto the boring treks around the map in search of interaction and PVP. I had no reason to even do anymore looting, as I was literally set. Of course, this is only due to my spawn, right? Nah, not really. I've found that this game is just getting easier to 'jump into.' As it gets farther into development, gearing up is becoming a much faster process for me. Its easy to find a gun, easy to find what I want, and easy to get straight to the, well, enjoyable and tense action I desire. However! I don't think this is the experience I really want. I'm not on the edge unless shot at, and even then I know I have enough ammunition to back myself up. I think what I'm trying to say is rather simple - Supplies such as ammunition, food, and, well, most of everything is just way too common for me to enjoy myself. I mean, come on - 3 bags of Rice after an hour of looting? That's ridiculous. -

hannibaldaplaya replied to omgwtfbbq (DayZ)'s topic in General Discussion
DayZ, a game where your character won't eat the contents of a can of beans because it got slapped while residing in his vest, even if he's dying of starvation. -
And this isn't a shitty mechanic? I don't want to use shift tab. I want to be able to alt tab and look at stuff I can't look at in shift tab. Really, the fact you put this into a question format is insulting to the OP. You're treating him like he is stupid because he is reporting a problem he and others have. This is barely constructive, only because it shows a work around.

"The Great Wipe - Stable 09-2014, post RIP messages here
hannibaldaplaya replied to nl's topic in General Discussion
RIPERONI A man in a tracksuit jacket who held his AKM with pride, somehow fitting two drum magazines on him. Before he donned his 'baller' garments, he had four from only one trip at NWAF. Confused by the abundance of magazines and drums, he kinda just dropped that shit off and rolled with a lighter design. He killed one guy. With a Double Rifle. The last round he had. Of course, his lack of ability to, like, have ammunition sorta poofed when he made it to a military base. A man of many words, his last before he was wiped from the Universe were most likely 'FOR THE EMPEROR!!!' in the most racist, insensitive accented voice possible. Little did anyone know, he was actually a martian who spent most of his time on Venus, disguised as an asian man to mingle alongside the humans in their time of, like, apocalypse. Knowing only about asian culture through racist jokes and stereotypes from the 'onlines', martian man simply didn't know any better. -
Note: My stance on Ammunition rarity is that bullets should be extremely rare, to the point where twenty - thirty rounds is a godsend. This does not mean I want finding bullets to be difficult, I want them to be found in very small amounts. For example, boxed ammunition spawns should spawn around 6 - 12 rounds, and loose ammunition spawns should spawn around 1 - 5 rounds. My stance is simple, if you loot a city you should have a few bullets, probably of several different calibers, but you will not have a lot of a specific caliber. You may walk out with 6 9mm rounds, 12 .45 acp rounds, 4 7.62x51, 11 7.62x39, 6 5.56 / .223, 3 shotgun shells, and 2 .357 rounds. Though, all in all, you have a good amount of bullets, you won't be able to use all of them. This means that you'll have a variety of bullets on you after a loot run, but you'll have very few you can actually use. Oh, magazines, what a problem you have unexpectedly become. The Sporter .22 and various civilian pistols have shown us that weapons that require magazines in DayZ are practically inferior to their counterparts. Why? Despite several civilian-style weapons using magazines, their magazines only spawn at Military establishments. This is frustrating, to say the least. A Sporter .22, considered a peashooter, is rarely ever used despite how easy it is to find the rifle and its corresponding bullets. Not due to its peashooter nature, but due to the lack of magazines. The 10 round and 30 round magazine do not, or very rarely, spawn in civilian areas. Sporter .22's are left behind very, very often, due to this. Well, you may say, why not just go to the military base to retrieve a magazine for your gun? Well, the problem with that is on the way or at that military base you will find a superior weapon, which you will drop the Sporter .22 for. The Sporter .22 could be a wonderful weapon for freshly spawned players, but it currently can't due to the lack of magazines. The gun could be a wonderful rifle, but it can't, due to the current magazine spawning mechanics. This is the same for pistols, and any gun that has a magazine. The AKM is not that much of a problem, as the magazines spawn in the same general area of the weapon. Civilian pistols and rifles, on the other hand, do not have this redeeming factor. How can this be fixed? Simple. Make it so that a weapon may spawn with an empty magazine. Make it so that some spawn with magazines loaded in, some don't. Make it so that if a weapon spawns in residential or civilian areas, magazines for that weapon spawn there too. BAM.

What "End Game Gear" Should Theoretically Be Like At Release
hannibaldaplaya posted a topic in General Discussion
Personally, I believe that end game gear, meaning that you have been around nearly the whole map, been in several engagements, and survived for a good amount of time, should constitute; - A reliable melee weapon that doubles as a tool, such as an axe, pickaxe, hatchet, or similar. - A semi-automatic rifle, pump-action or semi-automatic shotgun, or a fully-automatic AK-variant or warsaw pact assault rifle; If you're lucky, some NATO weaponry. - 30 - 45 rounds, shells, or slugs for your primary, which would be more then enough ammunition. Due to the fact I believe ammunition should be like gold, most players would use weapons in semi-automatic mode to conserve valuable ammunition. - If your gun requires magazines, two or three magazines, though even at this point in the game, having all of them full would be incredibly tricky. - A sidearm, be it an obrez, sawn off, handgun, or revolver. - Ammunition for your sidearm, as well, and one or two magazines if your weapon requires one, though due to some of the weapon's lower magazine sizes, such as the M1911, having full magazines on standby won't be as uncommon as one toting around 30-round AKM magazines. - A hunting backpack or similar, due to its slight camouflage and ability to carry quite a lot of things. - Some sort of kevlar vest, along with a ballistic helmet or similar for slight head protection. - Tracksuit! As you can see, I want DayZ to be a game where rounds are conserved and wasting a bullet is a moment where you might swear at yourself for wasting such a valuable damn thing. I also want NATO weaponry to be a bit more rare then warsaw pact weaponry, as it currently is now. 5.56 will be more rare and expensive then 5.45, if the devs don't decide to add the round due to some bullshit excuse! Most interesting assault rifles that aren't western use 5.45, and without the round we can not have said interesting assault rifles. I would rock an AN94 if I had the luck to find one, due to its two-round burst capabilities, which would devastate any form of armor and allow me to put two rounds down range at nearly the exact same spot. The lack of willingness to add new ammunition types and variants is one that makes me uneasy and pessimistic about the devs... -

hannibaldaplaya replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
.. What? You can't have rare ammunition and tons of types of rounds? It would only make sense. Plus, adding more types of ammo while making the rounds less common would lead to finding the rounds you need to become even more difficult then if there was only ten different kinds of ammunition. I don't think you thought this through. Do you think adding new ammo types means ammo becomes easier to find? Its kinda the opposite. -
There is literally no reason to kill who you rob in DayZ. This is not a game where the person you mug will go to town or some sort of colony to rat you out and get a bounty on your head, so there is no real reason to not let witnesses live. The word won't really spread about your 'crimes', and you don't have to be a murderous prick who shoots everybody who complies with his orders... The few times I have gone with a "no witness" policy is on games and modified servers where you could mug a player for them to run back to town where they would inform the local whiteknights of your chilling crimes, so you had to shoot them as if they went ahead and told anyone after you killed them and had them respawn, they would be risking themselves to be at the hands of a severe punishment. Of course, I doubt DayZ will get to this point. We may get towns, but it won't matter if you get robbed and live or get robbed and die, there will be no enforcement of a new life rule or similar, so players going to hopefully player-based, sort of safe colonies to talk about their journeys will end up getting bounties posted for people who shot them in the face and took their life away. This doesn't make sense, as they would be dead and would have no memory in their new life in DayZ of that one guy in the bandana who executed them with a magnum, but its a video game, and this kind of logic isn't really used much in video games.

And this is why I can't fucking stand DayZ right now. The abundance of ammunition once you get to military bases is ridiculous. There is no balance. Players do not have half full or under half full magazines, they have full magazines, and lots of full magazines - But only for their assault rifles. If you dare want to use a weapon such as the Sporter or a pistol, you will be utterly fucked. .22 LR should be extremely common, the magazines common, and the gun a bit uncommon. Early game, most should be sporting such a rifle, and its sound needs a bit of a buff - I've shot Ruger 10/22's before, they don't just go "ping." Then, make it so that getting an AKM is hard, but not as hard as getting a modern assault rifle. Make it so that getting military style weapons, fully automatics, is a difficult task that will show you are an experienced player with lots of hours on your character, or that you have taken down a man who had the gun with lighter equipment. Of course, we'll never get to the point where everyone has not that many rounds to spare. I am unfortunately pessimistic about the future of DayZ in this regard.

Starvation currently lacks any realism in game and does not take into account how much you move, or how much you drink. There are no states of malnourishment, you simply die after a set amount of time if you don't eat. I'd like some factors to be able to change this, such as staying in one area, not using up all your energy, and keeping a constant supply of water. Plus, as you starve, you get weak with hunger, affecting your speed, melee ability, and all that shit.

The Troubling Issue of Magazines
hannibaldaplaya replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
I completely agree with you, Hombre. I'm all for rarity, realism, and such, but what is unrealistic about a chance that a gun spawns with an empty mag, an attachment, or something like that? It makes sense, especially with scopes, as if it is a civilian rifle and the owner had a scope for it, he probably kept it on his rifle after he sighted it in. Plus, you can always make the attachments, scopes, or mags that spawn with the guns damaged. You can also make it so that the gun actually needs repairs, meaning that it is functional but prone to things like, say, jamming. I liked how STALKER Misery did this, other then the ridiculous cost of repairs and requirements for certain repairing items to work. -

The Troubling Issue of Magazines
hannibaldaplaya replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
You seem to think that we want the game to make it easier for us to gear up. No. I want the game to make it so that I don't have a full 75 round fucking drum magazine along with a kitted out AKM two hours into the game. I just do not want interesting weapons to be made useless by their inability to ever spawn with an empty magazine. You are twisting my words. I do not want this game to be, grab a gun, already loaded, go to coast and kill everybody. I want this game to be a harsh, unforgiving simulation of survival, but I don't want to have to turn down every weapon that requires a magazine because I won't be able to find that magazine. My point is that finding a gun should be a good thing, not an, 'aw it requires a mag so it is worthless.' A solution to this is to make empty magazines spawn in the same areas as their corresponding guns and add a chance (Not as low as 10%, that's ridiculous) that the weapon will spawn with an empty magazine. Not everything has to be broken into little pieces. This makes things feel tedious. In the current state of the game where nature is not threatening, traveling involves infinite running, and most player interaction results in a huge gunfight involving tons of rounds, searching for anything specific such as a Sporter mag becomes an unfun and unrewarding burden. -
The Troubling Issue of Magazines
hannibaldaplaya replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
With the magazine/ammunition/weapon divide, which is a change from the mod's combination of ammunition and magazine, outfitting oneself with a firearm is a 1+1+1=3 action. There are three variables or requirements which have to be met in order for you to get your weapon fully functional. What is being proposed as of late (linking the spawns of magazines and/or attachments to weapons, to any degree) just sends us closer to the way it was in the mod. It's a 2+1=3 action that way. There are two variables/requirements, instead of three. If we throw attachments in, it's a 1+1+1+1=4 situation. However, if we combine attachments... weapons... and magazines, potentially, into one spawn... it becomes a 3+1=4 situation, which is even worse (as you're condensing three distinct requirements into one). As an example, it would be like... if you killed a cow in-game... if it dropped a box of matches and a stack of wood, in addition to raw meat... at the same time. Guns should be able to spawn with empty magazines or attachments on them. Why? This is implying that every single gun left laying around Chernarus is the same exact cookie cutter weapon, no magazine, no nothing. Why is a small probability that a weapon will spawn, empty magazine inside, silencer perhaps on or some other attachment such a bad idea in your eyes? In a real apocalypse, if you're throwing your gun away so that you can, say, run, or if you are abandoning your home and your guns, you most likely still have your scopes on your rifles, and your magazines nearby if not in those guns. Perhaps you do not, but if you have a scope on your rifle or a magazine for your gun, just because you abandoned it in a hurry does not mean that magazine or scope magically disappeared. Plus, you keep your scope on your rifle because you have to sight your damn scope in. Why take it off when it took you some time at the range to get it right? I'm calling for a chance, a percentage probable chance that guns spawn in a unique, different way to make things diverse. You seem to want an experience where the game is a great big scavenger hunt, making you spend hours upon hours for a 'geared out' weapon. I'd love to make it a scavenger hunt for a 'geared out' weapon, but if you find a rifle or pistol that uses a magazine, it should damn well have a chance of spawning with or near an empty magazine. Why? So that it is functional, and actually used by players. No one is going to use the Sporter .22 until the magazines spawn near it and in the same area it spawns. Guns should usually be functional when you find them. You should have to conserve your ammunition, by making bullets scarce. Guns should be in poor condition, forcing you to spend time fixing and cleaning them or else face jams. You shouldn't have to travel miles for a chance at a magazine at a military base for a rifle that only spawns in residential areas. -
The Troubling Issue of Magazines
hannibaldaplaya replied to hannibaldaplaya's topic in General Discussion
Did I not state that ammunition should be rare? The idea is that small amounts of ammunition spawn at the rate ammo spawns now. Instead of 20 round boxes, you get 3 - 8 bullets laying around instead... There should at least be a probability weapons should spawn with empty magazines inside of them, same with certain attachments. Chances that can make a weapon spawn unique. One gun contains an empty mag, and has, say, a damaged bipod attached to it or a cracked scope, etc. A chance. -

Ballistic Vest - What Should It Do?
hannibaldaplaya replied to Katana67's topic in General Discussion
"Depth." The player should be scrounging for rounds, not magazines. Guns should have a 60% chance of spawning with an empty mag. The weapon based struggle should center on bullets, attachments, and actual guns. Not going to a military base for a civilian mag for a civilian gun, when chances are you will find a better weapon while there. -
Should weapon attachments only spawn on guns?
hannibaldaplaya replied to gibonez's topic in General Discussion
I could care less how optics spawn, can everything just be rare? I can have a 75 round drum magazine in roughly one or two hours of playing. How is this acceptable, in the damn apocalypse? -

This is absolutely true. You see it a lot. Girl plays online video game. Uses microphone. Tons of lonely, desperate basement dwellers start being super, overly, creepily nice to her just because she is female. With a bit of smarts, though, any female can exploit this foolish favouritism and end up drowning in gifts from lonely manchilds sitting in their basements thinking about how that gift "totally got them a real chance with her!!11!1" Its really silly.
